It is a very bittersweet today in soapland!  General Hospital’s Steve Burton is wrapping up over 21 years as Jason Morgan today on the set of the ABC soap opera.   And as fans, colleagues, and friends in the industry say goodbye, Steve’s family awaits him in Nashville, where Burton will reportedly be living.

Burton took to Twitter early this morning as he went into work with this short but sweet tweet to his followers, ” Good morning! Wow. Today is the day. Much luv 2 u all. Thank u.”

And now as the day is unfolding several cast members have also been sharing their thoughts on Twitter on Steve’s departure and the taping of his last episode, which is set to air in late October.  Here are just a sampling thus far from Steve’s co-stars past and present:

Kimberly McCullough: @1SteveBurton  “Stevie! Wish I could be there to give you a hug on your last day. You’ve done such great work- wow!”

Laura Wright:  “Strange day on the GH set lots of emotions and it’s only 830 am. @1SteveBurton xoxo good luck !!! Love ya BFF!!!! U will miss me yelling JASON!!!!!!!

Kelly Monaco:  “Early morning for me at GH. I don’t like goodbyes.”

Scott Reeves:  “@1SteveBurton Have an amazing finale! Wish I was there. I’ll be waiting for you on the front porch! Love you brother!”

Derk Cheetwood, “Like to say how much I’ll miss Steve, not only a great actor but person and friend”

Kirsten Storms: @1SteveBurton‘s last day was today. (I’m still in denial. Completely.)”

Kassie DePaiva:  “@1SteveBurton I wish you the very best on your new journey!!!”

We will bring you more updates later today!  So soapers, how are you feeling about this?  Does it seem real that Steve is leaving daytime?  Hard to fathom, but he is moving on!  We wish Steve all the best.

It is so sad… He is my fave on that show! He is so talented and I have enjoyed his work so much! I also love that he is such a good man and I wish him all good things and best of luck getting roles and opportunities that he will love and excel at. I still hope they are leaving it open for hime to return if he wants to. Enjoy… Steve and thank you for being in our lives through your fabulous 21 years on GH! You will be missed!

No it doesn’t seem real at all………..we, as fans, have lost so much this past year…….it’s like saying goodbye to a family member. Gh will go on…but it truly will not be the same. When I was at SSW……the throngs of fans waiting to see Steve was unbelievable…………couldn’t get near him. I wish him well…and I’m hoping to see Port Chuck very soon.

I will miss him he is the best what a wonderful actor .. I wish i can meet him in real life just to say you are the best . LOve Terri s from Brooklyn ny

Sounds like Scott is his next door neighbor.

Suppose all Jason fans can blame Scott Reeves to some degree. He spent alot of years living in Nashville while performing with the country group he was in. I have read that the two of them are extremely close, with their religion and famililes. So I am sure visiting Tenn to visit the Reeve’s, he probably took to the area. Nashville and surrounding areas are beautiful. But I still think he is going to “shockingly” show up in “Wisconsin” interacting with Katherine Chancellor. JMO

I live in WI!! Who is Katherine Chancellor?

I don’t blame SR or anyone else but SB. He worked his job for 21 years and did well for himself. Why not take an early retirement from the business?
What religion??

Katherine On Y n R

I will miss Steve, but honestly I wont miss the character “Jason.” He has been over exposed for the last decade. And thank God that horrendous Jasam pairing will have to finally end!
This will force Cartini to turn the page on that part of GH history and it’s long over due. Now if Maurice Bernard were to peace out Id be thrilled. Both characters have eaten GH history for far too long. When the Jason character became an Icon that further eroded the standing of the Quartermaine family and it lead to the marginalization of so many solid vet actors and core family characters on GH ( like Stuart Damon as Alan Q).
That is one of the main reasons GH’s ratings sank like a boulder in 2000. The Guza/Phelps/Frons regime turned the entire show over to the Jason and Sonny characters. The show became the Sopranos and ceased to be GH.
Steve and Maurice are both excellent, charismatic actors, but that whole era was to extreme for the health of the show. It alienated millions of long time viewers like me who were not on board with the Jasonny hour. I wish Steve all the best in his future endeavors but I would like to see GH move on and refocus.

DITTO!!!!

You forgot one question…Who the hell asked you?????

Obviously you didn’t research your facts correctly, the show’s ratings were already down when they gave the story line to Sonny and Jason, their the ones who kept the show going this long.I wish Steve all the success that life can bring ,I’ve watched GH since I was 11 and now 44 lol. and Steve is one of the main reasons I stayed that long.Maurice and Kelly are my other two fav’s.I think GH has been cheated at the Soap awards for years,I love the story line and the betrayal of the characters,It’s a great show and I hope it stays on daytime for a along time to come.

I can’t believe that Steve Burton /Jason will no longer be on GH. He has been such a big part of the show for so many years. And his character means so much to so many of the other characters on GH..what will Spinelli do without StoneCold? Who will Carly come to when in need? Who will kill off folks for Sonny when needed? Who will Elizabeth pine over? And who will Sam love and who will be the father to her baby boy once they figure out he Is Alive? And Michael always goes to his uncle Jason for advice… And Monica loses yet another son. And Edward, a grandson…
We will miss you GREATLY Jason/Steve Burton! Good luck in your new endeavors!

Wow Debbie, you got down to the nitty gritty with those ” who ” questions. It does make you wonder. Like someone posted on here above I believe, Why now? Why now, when we have lost so much in daytime over the last year? Now when you ask the ” why ” question, along with all those ‘ who ‘ questions you posed above, it makes you want to conduct your own interview with Steve Burton and ask. Why? Was there anyway Steve you could of hammered out some agreement for sometime off? Maybe shot just 3 days a week. I have wanted Sam and Jason to have a child for so long, and now it JUST seemed the time ot would happen. Why Steve, why now? Couldn’t you have worked out something? I know Steve wasn’t in favor of getting a divorce from his on screen wife, either.

What You posted is exactly the reason Jason/SB needs to go along with Sonny. Someone called it the Jasonny hour…lol. That is NOT GH! Thats why they lost so many loyal fans!

Yes, they (the writer’s) got carried away, BUT Steve and Maurice/ Sonny and Jason carried that show for year’s when the writers had no storyline for some of the other character’s. It was year’s……. before viewer’s begun to tune out. Blame the writer’s, it’s not Steve and Maurice’s fault. General Hospital won Best Serial and writing for year’s and year’s and year’s during the Jasonny hour. Keep that in mind.

They won the emmy for Luke’s intervention.

I was never a fan of Burton’s (staring into space and never changing the expression on your face is not “acting”). However, his fans can’t really believe that he’ll never be back, can they? He has a family to support. They ALWAYS come back (even he did it before). The only thing that will stop it is if the show is cancelled.

Ditto

No it what totally turned me off about the SB/ Jason character. He has as much energy as a sleeping dog and same amount of interest invested in being there.

1lovesays: Remedy, Steve Burton couldn’t have been there for 21 years if he had NO energy invested in being there!
Now that maybe the case NOW…… (giving you the benefit of the doubt) BUT…. that HAS NOT been the norm.
Overall, I don’t agree with you at all! Plus, you are not a fan of his anyway, so you don’t have an objective point of view, but a BIAS point of view.

1loveabcsoaps your right I am not a fan at all. I’ll give u that. No more comments from me about SB.

I loved those blank stairs into space. I actually just wrote about it below. It’s not easy (those expressions) to come up with. It really is: ACTING!!!!

Remember Jason had a head injury, and those black, aloof stares are ALL supportive of his injury/ and him being alittle strange BECAUSE of it.

No it what totally turned me off about the SB/ Jason character. He has as much energy as a sleeping dog and same amount of interest invested in being there.

You can tell there is lots of love. I wish him the best, though if the rumors are true, we will see him in Genoa City someday in the not-too-distant future. 🙂

I hope Steve doesn’t go on The Young And The Restless. I hope
he does his new projects, and then decides to return home to GH.
He is the reason why I’ve watched all these years. What will Sam
do without Jason. The JASAM LOVESTORY WAS THE BEST EVER!!
Jason Morgan and Sonny Corinthos was the greatest team all these yrs.
Many fans tears will be shed on his last day. Soooooooo sad for us.
We’ll miss Steve so much playing the heartthrob Jason Morgan. No
One can fill his shoes. He is a real nice guy, and easy for all to love.
Come back someday Steve….

I have a strong feeling he might be back at some point but maybe I am just dreaming. I cannot even imagine this show without him. I am sure that is why Sean Keanan is coming.

I understand that actors like Steve and Kimberly want to move on to other ventures in life. However, what I don’t get is their timing. We all love soaps but we also know that daytime is a dying genre. Both of these particular actors I would assume are making a good payday. Why not just ride it out for however long GH has remaining?

LOve jason just the look great actor ,

A day of mixed emotions for sure – happy for Steve and his bright future with his famly and in his future business endeavors, where I am sure we will still be able to enjoy his work, but GH will not be the same without Steve’s portrayal of Jason Morgan. He plays such an integral part in so many characters lives, and did it so well (with his unique portrayal) for many, many years. Using tivo/DVR’s, I am sure many people tend to fast forward through some scenes at times, but I can honestly say I have NEVER fastforwarded through any scene Jason/Steve was in, knowing he always brought so much to the show always. Long live GH, and much good luck to Steve Burton – we will miss you very much, but look forward to your future work on TV and the big screen!!!

I wish Steve the best, but I will really miss him. 🙁

DITTO!!!!!!!!

I wish the best for Steve And he knows all the fan of GH loves him so much I love to see him at least on port chuck for me all the GH characters are the best but Steve burton was more than the best .I wish he Chang his mind and one day he decide to come back For us is very hard how about his co worker and his friend .i miss you dear Steve(Jason Morgan) love you and wish you the best .

As a OLTL crossover, I see this change as more OLTL characters. I just wish Sam would go with him.

Agreed

IT’S A SAD DAY AT GH. But we can’t say of how, much we love Steve Burton. For playing Jason and he played, over a decade. And he wants to do other, things like Kimberly Mcllough. Is doing. And I actually personally think, if the rumors are true, about him going on Y&R. That’s great and actually, I personally think that he might end doing the, same the that Kimberly is doing right now, for the show. By popping up on a reoccurring basis, and Ingo. As well. Onto GH. That he will pop up, whenever they want him to, come back, on the show.

Gosh, I CAN’T believe THIS…! I CAN’T BELIEVE.
All Great things come to an end, and THIS, Sonny and Jason pairing was one of the GREAT and BEST Male relationships in Daytime Television that was LOYAL through and through. I am a little misty eyed, and I know IF I see the last air date, I wil cry. Steve deserves the chance to move on and do other projects. I also could see this coming as well. Steve seemed alittle fustrated with the changes at General Hospital. Yes, the show is a better show, BUT it came with the cost of many people losing their jobs while other people gained employment. There is no Sonny without Jason, and no Jason without Sonny. These two compliment one another BC they are so ALIKE and so DIFFERENT all in one. There is NO friendship in Daytime that I have enjoyed more than ‘ this ‘ pairing. Steve, I wil miss you DEARLY. That ALOOF gaze you do when something is told to you that is out of bound, strange, or crazy- I have JUST loooooved that GAZE that you give the camera. I know (have read) you have thanked Maurice for teaching you so much over the year’s, and I say that YOU and MAURICE for one, are FAMOUS for your looks of expression. Both unique (looks ) and complimenting/ fitting for your character’s protrayal. And by no way, simular to each other’s. That’s the incrediable thing, because You AND Maurice have worked so close together for so long, that it would be understandable if they were. Thats the magic of THIS pairing/the partnership, the professionalism and testimont of Maurice (in the beginning) being a good supporting colleague-taking on a much younger Steve Burton. Well Steve, Maurice is as ‘ greatful ‘ to you for your dedication, as you are to him. Trust me, the role of Sonny was as prevelant as it was because of the EVER SO IMPORTANT supporter, of Jason (Quartermaine) Morgan. I will miss YOU, forever. PLEASE come back for the funeral of Edward Quartermain, your grand-father. It would ONLY make sense that YOU do.

Love You,
1loveABCsoaps.

GH will not be the same with Jason/Steve. He was one of the reasons I taped the show and I never fast forwarded through his scenes.

Meant without Jason/Steve…

I have been watching GH since the begining. So many have come and gone but you are the one that I will miss the most. I just loved your story lines and relationships on the show. You are a great actor and I hope to see you on the screen again in the future. The show won’t be the same without you! Good luck and god bless.

I am so very sad that our beloved Steve who plays our daytime heartthrob Jason Morgan, is
Leaving GH. It doesn’t seem possible for GH to be without Jason. He was GH really all these
years. Jason Quartermaine/Morgan and Sonny Corinthos has truly kept GH on the air all these
years. They were the best team ever. No one can play Jason Morgan other than Steve. What
will Sonny, Carly and most of all his true love Sam McCall Morgan do without him. His 9 year
love storyline of JASAM was so fun to watch all these years. The day that heartthrob Jason
Morgan met the beautiful Sam McCall was a huge and fabulous storyline to follow. They were
two similar souls destined to find eachother. Watching these two fall deeply in love with all their
times of fun, intreage, adventures, sorrows and HOT STEAMY ROMANCE was so grea! Now they
have been torn apart with the new writers, but we true fans are so hoping that RC reunites Jason,Sam
and their stolen baby boy together before Steve leaves. It’s what they deserve, as well as all us fans.
Some wonder if all the new and different storylines and new actors from OLTL, may have just made the
final decision for Steve to finally leave GH. He and Sonny truly have been day times handsome guys.
I’ve been watching Jason Morgan since he came o GH all those years ago. He was young and very
cute even back then. Steve Burton will be terribly missed by soooooo many fans. It’s sad to see the
end of the beautiful JASAM LOVE STORY.

So Steve I want to wish you great happiness and success in all your future endevors. But I really
hope that you will one day return home to General Hospital. You will be dearly missed, and many
tears will be shed on your last day. Much love and blessings to you from one of your many many
JASAM fans.

Hello Steve Burton, I am your biggest fan, say its not so, I love the way you played the character Jason, you were so so good. You were the reason for my General Hospital for many years. You will really really be missed. Have a great next chapter in your life.

Steve Burton leaving GH…..I’m in total shock, big fan here in the Bahamas. Loved the character Jason Morgan you played…..personally, you made GH exciting……you’re awesome! You will surely be missed.

Good luck and God Bless in your new endeavors!

Why did GH have to kill Jason off, or is he going to fall in the water and be lost whatever happens you will be missed.

So sad to see jason go. He will never reunited with robin and know that she save his life or find out tha danny is really his son but lastly get a chance to bring duke lavery to his knees. I will miss u jason. I have watch GH for 30 years and yesterday was my last day when steve burton left. The keep draggin out robins death and I am just done with the writer and this story line.

Today I watched when Jason got shot, and I am so sad he has been my number one on GH, going to miss him

Love my Jason, going to miss him

I want to let you know that you will be missed. The show will not be the same without you. I want to wish you and your family the best of luck in your next chapter. You and your family will love living in Tennessee, it’s the best!!!!

Wow i miss him already i love me some him

Wow i miss him already i love me some him, Hear in the Bahamas GH will never be the same you bring must of the action Love Love Love You.

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

Published

on

By

Dominic Zamprogna

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).

On last week’s GH Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned,

Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT

Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where they were previously, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. And Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, “Well, so much for that!”

Fast-forward to 2025, and “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said we’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth, My internal monologue is going ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is. or not.”

Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprongna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric and a big fan base with with Jason and you know you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES

In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is down 100% to play. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.:

Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit and the buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other. and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect Ric, Sonny, Lulu? So, much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”

You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.

Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither of them for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

Patrick J. Gibbons

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.

However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.

Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

Photo: ABC

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG

Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!

Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”

MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).

Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

Photo: JPI

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY

Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”

It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”

A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

Photo: PGibbons

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS

As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”

He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”

Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.

So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.

Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.

Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

Chad Duell

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON

Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”

Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Courtesy/ABC

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”

When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES

One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”

“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good.  I was working with Dominic  Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.

A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?

As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”

Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.

You can check out the full conversation with Chad Duell below.

Now let us know: what show would you like to see Chad cast on down the line? BTG, DAYS, B&B, Y&R, or a new role on GH? What did you think of his thoughts on the casting switch while he was away in the role of Michael? What was your favorite Michael storyline during Chad’s 15-year run on the ABC soap opera?
