Y&R Unveils New Opening Credits – Watch Sequence One & Two!
So on yesterday’s episode of The Young and the Restless, the series aired it’s 10,000 episode. After months and months of hearing about the updated opening credits that were in the works, the first sequence finally made it to air. And since Canada is a day ahead of the U.S., so has the second sequence, each has different configurations of the cast presented in it.
While many soap opera opening credits go through a complete overhaul, Y&R chose to just update their contract players main images and scene images when their name and likeness appears on screen. The same, look, feel, and graphics template and music, Nadia’s Theme, is still played throughout. And at the end, we still get the woman walking across the screen in the dress, and as you will recall that was revealed at one time to be none other than Michelle Stafford (Phyllis)!
Now after the jump, take a look at the first two opening sequences and let us know your thoughts? Would you have liked to have seen a brand new look and feel and new images of the cast? Or, are you thumbs up for these versions, with at least the updated images? Let us know!
I wouldlike a brand new intro all together.
I HATED THE NEW OPENING! IT FELT OLD AND UN ATTRACTED TO ME. NOT SEXY AT ALL
I am beyond thrilled that they’ve updated it! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
I’m really disappointed. I was hoping for a totally new look altogether. If I was just watching casually, I wouldn’t even notice they had changed.
I never had a problem with the old opening except for the fact the photos were so out of date and some of the cast members that joined after those credits were made were not included like Billy Miller who plays Billy. Updating those photos were long overdue. And it wouldn’t be Y&R without Nadia’s Theme, so I’m glad the music is the same.
How…….different.
?
Waiting all these months (years…) for a new opening only for it to be exactly the same opening with different still of people.
Unimaginative, uninspired. Just like their 10,000th episode.
I know that episode was disappointing after all the hype. And as lame as this would have been I would have understood if they had used Victor’s memory loss and “funeral” as an excuse to run clips from past shows. At least that would make sense, marking the milestone while honoring history type of thing. Instead they used the show to wrap up a storyline that was months in the making and the worse part I didn’t get to see the part I was looking forward to seeing the most- the look on Victor’s face when he found out what Sharon had done. All this done off camera, as well as any goodbye scene between Victor and the nun, his dock co-workers he was tring to help– it was a real let down in so many ways. I truly hope the new team improves all this.
Agreed on all counts.
Moreover, that 10,000th episode…a milestone episode shouldn’t revolve around one character. It’s about the ensemble (those present, and those who’ve left the show) who have been the faces of the stories, and who are the reason we care about the show at all. Flashbacks would have been fitting, as would having guest stars (more than just Danny and Christine, who were window dressing in the episode and brought in for an entirely different purpose anyway), or merely mentioning characters/storylines would have been of some comfort and great source of reminiscence for the audience. I understand and respect Victor as a core and vastly important character. But marking the SHOW’S ten thousandth episode with an episode revolving around HIM in any capacity was a waste of a tribute that doesn’t come around very often.
It was probably the most pathetic and saddest excuse for a tribute episode I’d ever seen produced on any soap. Shame on MAB. She’s probably still basking in her own self-proclaimed brilliance somewhere.
We got Tracy back, but IF Victor really was dead (as the characters were lead to believe), where was Ashley or the mention of her? She had just as much history than most of them. I would think DAYS could have loaned her for one day. She would have been there to support her daughter.
I was disappointed too. I misread that there would be flashbacks and there were none. One great thing about Melody Thomas Scott’s standalone Christmas episode was all the flashbacks. That would have been so very appropriate in this case.
And I really didn’t care for Jack’s whining (no offense to the brilliant, Peter Bergman) about losing Beauty of Nature (so sick of hearing about that company!). Poor Tracy started talking about Colleen’s heart and how it was like losing her all over again and Jack swiftly started playing the world’s smallest violin for himself.
As long as they never shorten it or change the theme, it will be fine…
I had higher hopes for this. Looks like a junior designer put this together with little thought to quality.
Why black and white?
Classic look and appeal to keep with the original Y&R themes.
I HATED THE OPENING! IT WAS SUPPOSED TO ATTRACT YOUNGER PEOPLE IT IS SO OUTDATED LOOKING YUCK
YAAAAAAAWN!
Keep the theme but hey… can we do a little more creative work there in graphic design?
I love openings and themes but was hoping for more heat to go with the hype.
I like it, but where is Nicholas? I think there needs to be a third version to include Gloria, Neal, and a few others. But I LOVE the same motif – fits the song beautifully.
I agree. I hope Joshua Morrow gets his spot. His was one of the nicer ones in the last version too. He has a very young and sweet face.
I agree with you.
Nick Neil Cane Lilly are all contract. Gloria is just recurring we probably have 5 different sets that is how they did it last time we will see them.
There is a fourh version which I saw today and JM is in that one.
I’m probably in the minority, but I was fine with the old one, but I am glad they kept the black and white with red writing with, of course, Nadia’s Theme, playing throughout. It is a beautiful song and the opening is very simple yet classy.
I am confused, though. Daniel Goddard tweeted ions ago that he “filmed” his part in the opening, but it seems like they scratched these montages or something because Nikki’s is from episode 10,000 (just yesterday) when she is reunited with Victor at the ranch; Phyllis’ appears to be when she was at the basketball court with Ronan not too long ago; Victor’s looks like it may have been the Valentine episode with Nikki; Adam’s was from New Orleans, I think. Maybe it is the stills that were filmed.
If Billy Miller is truly leaving (as rumored) then that was a waste. But now Sharon no longer looks like she is trying to find her car in the parking lot, but now Paul kind of does. 🙂 I will miss Michael Graziadei with his short hair, running on the beach, and the way he rolls his eyes ever so slowly. Somehow the slow movements of the contract players was fitting with the pace of the music.
I don’t know, I like the sequence. Nadia’s Theme is able to evoke such emotion when I hear it and the images fit. For those of you complaining, why does it have to be new? Days of Our Lives has had that hourglass for many many years.
Sharon looking for her car too funny!
Hey Christine saw the fourth montage today in Canada and Michael Graziadei was in it. Unfortunately he is no longer running on the beach, but they used shots that have his hair back in a ponytail, so it still looks short.
Thanks, Mary SF. Well that’s something. I will miss his entire old montage. The beach scene was perfect, but not for how he is today.
Love it! Glad they have stayed true to the history of the opening of the show. Have watched for over 35 yrs and still looks authentic.
So I guess we get to see EB & MTS in every opening!
No, I saw the thrid montage today here in Canada- it was Jeanne Cooper, Stephen Nicholas, Byrton James, Christian LeBlanc, Greg Rikkaart and Elizabeth Hendrickson- those are the ones I remember, but definitely no EB or MTS.
Good I do not see the need for them in the intro every day!
Now that we are talking about actors repeating in intros, I am pretty sure they did the same thing with Michelle Stafford and a few others. Hers usually ran with Michael Graziadei, but sometimes his was not on, but just Peter Bergman with Michelle following or leading that one. And I almost think Melody Thomas Scott’s sometimes ran with Eric Braeden’s, and sometimes not. It is hard to remember. I would have to go through my deleted Tivo folder and check them.
love it! two thumbs way up!!!
Why is Doug Davidson there? When did he become a contract player?
Adding some color would have been nice. Oh well… only so much you can do on a budget.
I can’t speak of whether he is “on contract” or just recurring, but the man has been on there since May 1978. He deserves some recognition. He has been in the last opening too, but now he is not connected to Christine like the old opening depicted. 🙂
I believe in the closing credits ( which many stations don’t air anymore) actors who have contracts are listed first in alphabetical order then the recurring players are listed second. When the full credit list rolled this week Doug Davidson was on the main list not the recurring list, so I’m pretty sure he is a contract player still.
Doug Davidson is 2nd in seniority next to Jeanne Cooper dam right he belongs on there! He is the nicest guy on that show never complains never twitter’s or bitches I love and adore that man.
Doug Davidson has ALWAYS been on contract. He was never dropped to recurring.
Thanks for the clarification, Scott. It is hard to find information on him regarding contract.
Yesterday was the 10,000th ep? It was awful!
Openings are nice, but I think they should have gone for something new and different a la B&B.
BORING! They should have totally revamped it and they should have done a remix of the theme.
GH has very modern openings.; keeping up with the times…
Y&R is too old fashioned , stuck in the 70’s, for the new generations.
It’s a shame the new generation can not appreciate class and tradition.
I think that these photos are very appropriate to open the Show with. Everyone looks their best. I do, however, prefer Michelle Stafford with the red hair she always had, prior to becoming a brunette most recently. Does anybody know if this change was made at the request of Management, for health reasons or just by virtue of her desiring the change?
I remember her tweeting about it saying that it was her natural color and that it was staying that way for Michelle and “Phyllis.”
Michelle Stafford said it was a mixture between her and the head of the departments, especially since it’s closer to her natural and Phyllis’ natural colour. She said she doesn’t think she’s going back to the blonde/red anytime soon.
I’m fine with it…as long as they leave in Nadia’s theme – it’s synonymous with Y&R.
I must say that that’s a beautiful shot of Amelia Heinle.
If the sequences are going to be so short, must Eric Braeden be in both of them?
Michael Muhney, but no Josh Morrow? No Christian multiple-Emmy-winner Leblanc? No Kristoff ditto-I-think St. John?
Presumably they will add Jess Walton whenever Jill comes back.
Or are there additional sequences that just haven’t been aired yet?
I’m with those who want to keep Nadia’s theme, by the way. It’s both classic and classy, not to mention HEAVILY identified with Y&R after so many years of using it. The show has gone through so much upheaval; at least the theme music can be one source of tradition and continuity.
Melanie is also in both.
I’m so stoked with these! While I did expect more, the finally updated credits is a nice nod to Y&R fans after making them wait years for them! And now, finally in HD, they’re more gorgeous than ever!!
I wish they would take a cue from the 80s opening and get an artist to do watercolors of the cast against a white background.
looks cheap and very 90’s. Not in the good way. Instead of being fresh and current, makes it look dated. Not a great decision in my book.
After seeing them in the show, I would never have known they were new if I hadn’t read it here. They look the same and aren’t that exciting. It is good to see Billy and Michael in the opening though.
I think the opening is just fine. Everyone has updated pictures. I just found out Daniel Romalotti had his hair cut. He needed it cut. Phyllis’s hair does look better red.
Very bland! Should at least be in color!
I have yet to see Kristoff St. John in a group is he beiing pulled off contract?
I really like this-true to the great theme song and current shots of the stars.
The new opening credits are awesome, and I hope that the new creative leaders will keep them updated. The only picture I didn’t like was the picture of Eric Braeden. He always looks so mad and crotchety. That’s just my opinion, though. My favorite pictures are of Billy Miller and Amelia Heinle. He looks so deliciously mischievous, and Amelia is such a beauty. Great job, Y&R!
michelle stafford, best body on TV. please keep her on open credits. Thanks beverley J
Who is the lady in black walking towards the camera! I hear it’s Michelle Shafford! Please let me know! It’s still playing today! Anyone who knows, please let me know! Thanks! Y&R is the best but lately B&B has taken first place! And it’s sad they killed off Bo! And who would think that the nurse has Christian! Is she related to Save or what! Very confused!
I meant to say Sage on Y&R! LIKE I said, who is she related too? Sages family? Gabe’s family! The suspense is killing me! Don’t all soaps do that to you! And trying to explain the story lines is like speaking Chinese! LOL LOL But watching it, you totally understand it! Don’t understand that either! The mind is very complainant! I hope I spelled that right! Go soaps!!!!! You rock!!!
The baby is a he, not a she! Sorry about that!
I liked the older credits much better!
Why mess with a good thing. Its a little sexier than the new credits. They are dark and Moody looking. Its almost spring and it dose not reflect spring at all

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

It’s a milestone we couldn’t let pass by without taking some time to celebrate as a family (and, of course… eating some cake). 🍰 We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE 16,000th Episode?
The 16,000th episode will feature Jason Morgan returning to the town of Port Charles, Anna and Valentin (James Patrick Stewart) reuniting, and a new surgeon, Dr. Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer) joining the staff of ‘General Hospital.’
