Steve Burton Shares Thoughts On His ‘Beyond Salem’ Debut and His General Hospital Exit
It’s been a bit since daytime soap fans have seen Steve Burton on their screens. But starting next week, that is about to change when Burton is part of the cast for the Peacock streaming series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter Two.
Steve is reprising his first soap role as Harris Michaels, but just whether he is a good Harris or a bad Harris is yet to be seen.
Deadline spoke to Burton to get his take on coming to the DAYS family after his General Hospital departure. As viewers know, Burton was let-go from his signature role of Jason Morgan when he did not comply with the ABC Covid-19 Vaccine mandate.
Speaking openly about his exit from Port Charles, Steve shared: “Look, the circumstance was tough and you know, that’s just the way it is.” He later added in his decision, “It’s a personal choice and that’s what I had to do. GH was a huge part of my life and I’m so grateful for the opportunity there and the people there. I just don’t have anything bad to say.”
As for what to look for when Burton’s Harris enters ‘Beyond Salem’: “He’s not operating on a code of ethics that is great. Albert Alaar (Co-EP, DAYS) was like, ‘Do you care about being a bad guy?’ I said, ‘No, man. Whatever. I can play anything.’ I don’t know how much I can say but he does some not nice things in this chapter. There may be some redemption.”
Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter Two drops Monday July 11th.
So what do you think? Will Burton be the bad guy on Beyond Salem Chapter 2? Do you hope that Steve might come to the mothership and Days of our Lives down the line? Comment below.
“Whatever you believe or not believe about Covid, there has to be protocols in place. At GH we are having great success. Everybody was social distancing, masking.” Except, YOU WEREN’T! Let’s not forget the bomb Nancy Lee Grahn revealed on social media. He can try and make it sound pretty, but it wasn’t. Things behind-the-scenes were not as good as he’s trying to paint it as, and I am pretty sure he was part of the problem.
“[Note: Burton declined to reveal his vaccination status.]” He doesn’t need to: we know he isn’t vaxxed, and it’s why he got himself fired, but we also know Ken Corday has been so loose and care-free about COVID since production on Days of Our Lives began again, so it doesn’t surprise me he hired anti-vaxx individuals.
I’m always turned off when an actor says, “I can play anything.” First, it’s not true. The greatest stars have always acknowledged that certain roles would not fit them. That’s why Katharine Hepburn and Meryl Streep never played hookers — they just wouldn’t be believable. Warren Beatty never played a priest for the same reason. But, as always, Mr. Burton places himself above everyone else. I won’t be watching.
Burton cannot play anything. He proves that daily as every role he assumes is an exact replica of the last.
I think everyone has the right to do whatever is best for them as far as getting the vaccine. I for one am missing Steve on my favorite soap and hopes he comes back in the future. It different without him.
So right – the show needs Jason to swoop Carly off her feet
Yes, I agree. Carly needs Jason.
It sure is. I miss him so much. There will never be another Jason like Steve.
Bring Steve Burton and Jessica Collins back as Dylan and Avery to mix it up with Sharon and Nick on Y n r! The need show needs more quads and triangles and romance! Hopefully Doug Davidson Paul can come back finally.
I am very happy for Steve! I do miss him on GH, and hope that he is able to come back soon. He is a very kind and caring man, who is also doing what he can to motivate people. He helped me through the pandemic with all of his and Bradford ‘s additional content online, and is a breath of fresh air during these difficult times. I appreciate him very much, and wish him great success!
I agree!
I would love more than anything if Steve came back to GH. The hole he left behind is still there and it’s HUGE!
Me too
Would love it if He stayed OUT of Days. If you want him at GH I hope he goes there. Just keep him away from Days
Yes you are right. Jason needs to come back. It is kinda boring w/o him
I haven’t missed Steve/Jason..
Out of sight out of mind.
All is good/normal without him, imo.
I know some miss Jason, but it’s proven he is not needed.
To his fans; hoping your want of him back is granted.
SuOOO
I don’t miss Steve/Jason either. While I don’t mind Drew Cain, I am not crazy about this actor but it would be awful watching Billy Miller with Carly.
Hi Violet-
Way I see it— This Drew is annoying and does not fit into the
GH atmosphere– He simply is not GH-(( bad casting…
He’s like a sad/bad version of a wannabe Dr. Phil..lol
Ahh ha! you are right!!! Billy Miller and Carly would be totally not right..
But– I can’t get into Drew and Carly either..
Carly is best being an old maid ahaa!
SuOOO
Hi there. Just saw your post and agree. I didn’t mind this new Drew years ago when he was a lot younger on All My Children, but he’ just doesn’t have the same appeal now. He also played opposite Rebecca Buddig/Rachael Barnes and they made a nice couple. I wish she’d come back, so I could see if they still look good together, ha! Well, no matter how the fans bitch and complain, we just have to watch or not, right?
You can bet your soul that Jason will be eating pizza on Thanksgiving with his family…. though with the number of pre-emptions GH has had this year, you probably won’t see that episode until next February.
In the meantime, all of us in Hell are looking forward to the 2nd chapter of “Beyond Salem” next week.
Satan
Iam not betting my soul or anything else, at my age just a snap of your fingers and I’d be gone. Forgot about Beyond Salem, hopefully it’s better than what’s going on in old Salem now.
I’m not a days of our lives fan so I won’t be watching. I do hope Steve comes back to GH soon. It’s definitely noticeable he isn’t there. I don’t care for some of the storylines now so I haven’t been watching much. Maybe it’s time for soap operas to go away. My opinion only.
This is all Great and all, However , we still want JASON MORGAN/STEVE BURTON back on GH.
Yes, we want Jason back on GH…
Was there literally no one else available? I could definitely live without seeing his face on my screen ever again. He’s just not a very compelling actor. At least he didn’t blame GH for the consequences of his actions and took appropriate responsibility. I’ll give him credit for that. But Covid is spreading faster in the US than ever (a MILLION people dead so far) and it sounds like he is still not vaccinated. How does that work with all the people on set he is still going to be putting at risk?
Bob…Amen to your comment. Totally agree.
Agreed. Shame that the media praises the most selfish and egotistical
Not the best actor. Why he gets so much attention shows the lack of caring for true talent in this industry
Bring Steve burton back to GH as Jason of course we miss him he’s a good actor they all need him back..
Burton’s all too present appearance on Beyond TURNED ME OFF COMPLETELY. I really do NOT want more of him.
Plus his looks are gone and he is always playing the same old same role.
Days should have looked elsewhere not Burton
Please com back
Steve Burton needs to go back on days of our lives
