Steve Burton Tweets He Just Re-Signed With Y&R As GH Teases That Jason Is Alive!

Today as fans of General Hospital watched the story begin to reveal itself for Kimberly McCullough’s (Robin) exit storyline, viewers learned that according to Victor Cassadine (Thaao Penghlis), Jason Morgan is alive and in a cryogenic state!
Victor showed once again Jason’s picture to Robin, which got curious fans on Twitter to ask Steve Burton directly if he was by any chance returning to General Hospital to reprise his role of Jason or, is he continuing to stay on The Young and the Restless as Dylan McAvoy?
Chris Burgess tweeted from @CBRVA “@1SteveBurton Are you still under contract with #YR, Steve? They showed your picture as Jason on GH!” To which Burton replied, “Yes, just re signed.” And with that, it should put an end to any rumor that Steve is returning to Port Charles any time soon.

Kelly Sullivan Gives High Praise to ‘General Hospital’s’ Maura West Recalling When Ava Shot Connie (Exclusive)
It was just over 13 years ago on General Hospital when Ava Jerome (Maura West) shot and killed Kate Howard/Connie Falconeri (Kelly Sullivan) in an effort to keep her quiet from revealing that Derek Wells was actually Ava’s back-from-the-dead brother, Julian Jerome (William deVry). It’s a crime that somehow Ava never has quite paid for either.
The episode back aired on August 13, 2013 and viewers had to say goodbye to Kelly Sullivan who played Kate and her alter, Connie. In the story, just before she died, Kate/Connie scrawled the letters AJ in her own blood, initially making the PCPD and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) think that it was AJ Quatermaine (Sean Kanan) who did the deed.
Now, Sullivan recalled sharing scenes with the three-time Daytime Emmy-winning West, during a live conversation on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel. Kelly was the special guest talking about her recent return to the soaps in her new role as The Bold and the Beautiful’s Darcy Dylan.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF MAURA WEST
Speaking of her final GH scenes and working with Maura West, Sullivan gave her then GH co-star major props. “If you’re going to be shot by somebody (on the soaps), you want to be shot by Maura West, c’mon!”
Maura West debuted back in May 2013 as Ava, and Sullivan remembered when the As the World Turns favorite began on GH. “I remember when Maura West first arrived at GH. She walked in with this cute little bob (hairdo) and she’s just delicious,” shared Sullivan.
A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
Kelly revealed more about Maura, adding “I think she’s amazing! I remember right before I left the show, someone suggested, and I would still love to do this with her, if she ever want to, but someone suggested that they wanted to direct the stage play A Streetcar Named Desire with Maura and I, where I would play Stella and she would play Blanche! Wouldn’t that be great?”
Speaking of the Ava/Connie showdown scenes, Sullivan expressed, “On television and on General Hospital specifically, Maura West is able to play a character who does the most horrendous things and you still care about her and that’s the mark of a really great actor. In other words, you’re able to be liked in the midst of the most horrendous things, and as a performer not shying away from that, and to just have the courage to do what’s on the page (in the script).”

Kelly also shared her sentiments when she walked off the set of General Hospital after her run back in August of 2013. “I really was honored. Every day I would go to work and I would say a little prayer, which is I want to do justice for my character, explained Kelly. “It’s between me and my character. I get to walk this path with her and to leave the show on that note, which is, I left every out there. I just gave it my all and again what an honor it was to play Kate/Connie.”

The question of will Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) stay awhile at General Hospital after his recent extended hiatus from the show earlier this year, has reportedly been answered.
TMZ via court documents obtained in Burton’s ongoing legal battle with his ex-wife Sheree Gustin, shared that Steve actually inked a new three year deal with the ABC soap opera back in June.
That is significant because it was June when Burton returned back to work as Jason. In addition, the court filing confirmed that Burton had already moved back to California from Tennessee.

GH fans will recall, it was back in February of 2026, that Burton announced via his Instagram that he was stepping away from his role of Jason Morgan for short break and pointed to wanting to spend quality time with his new wife, Michelle Lundstrom Burton with whom he tied the knot back on May 17, 2025.
Steve expressed at that time, “I’m newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family.” It was back on March 25 that viewers saw Jason carted away by the WSB after taking the fall for Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) who shot then WSB Director Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).
Burton returned to work on June 1, and due to General Hospital taping roughly six weeks ahead of air, made his on-screen comeback on the July 13 episode.
GOING FOR GOLD AT THE UPCOMING DAYTIME EMMYS
Then, Steve and his enduring fans got an extra special treat on the same day, when it was revealed on Extra that he was nominated for the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series category.
Steve previously won in the Supporting Actor category for his work as General Hospital’s Jason in 1998 and as The Young and the Restless’ Dylan McAvoy in 2018.
Now with Jason and Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) relationship seemingly hitting the skids, plus Jason’s commitment to staying out of mob life to focus on being present for his son Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn), what does the future hold for the fan favorite character? Stay tuned.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason and Britt Reach an Impasse; Is This the End of Their Relationship?
On the Friday, September 11 episode of General Hospital, Jason (Steve Burton) and Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) relationship becomes strained to potentially the point of no return.
Things take a turn when an unglued Britt having been traumatized by almost being killed by Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) asks Jason to back her up with the PCPD when she reports Anna for attempted murder.
However, Jason told Britt, he can’t. Jason shares that he does not believe Anna would have gone through with shooting her. Therefore, Britt was not in any real imminent danger. Britt is flabbergasted and hurt that Jason is refusing to tell the police what he actually witnessed for himself on Mount Emerson.

BRITT WANTS BACK UP FROM JASON
Jason counters that he can’t believe that Britt would want Anna punished. or sent to prison, or a mental facility after the trauma she endured while being locked up and mentally tortured while at Wyndemere.
He asks Britt, “How could you even say that you want her locked up or prosecuted for what she did when you knew she was being held prisoner and you did nothing to save her?” Britt is stunned by Jason’s response.
Coming up, official General Hospital spoilers share that on the upcoming Monday, September 14 episode, Jason confides in Carly (Laura Wright), while Britt is stung. In the video preview that aired at the end of the Friday, September 11 episode for this coming Monday, Britt says to Jason, “You don’t believe me. Do you?”
General Hospital head scribes, Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte previously teased in their fall preview of the soap, “Britt and Jason have come a long way and fought a lot of enemies to be together. But the most stubborn obstacle to their happiness isn’t without, it’s within. Decisions Britt made to stay alive while under Cullum’s thumb will come back to haunt her and may prove too difficult for this unlikely couple to survive.”

Send Steve Burton back to GH. On GH he shines as a character. On Y&R he fades into the background (Yawn). Very boring storyline.

Why would SB leave Y&R he has been there a year non stop story they have made it so he can commute he has stated he is very content. I really am sorry that KMC/Robin came back they have done nothing but make a mockery out of her character.
Agree about the character of Robin. It might just be me, but it also seems to be that she’s more “bitchy” than the Robin everyone feel in love with over the years. I’m not suggesting she be a wuss but it just doesn’t seem the same.

I agree with you about Kimberly…I was never a big fan of Robin, and I never wanted her to come back, but this “return” has completely destroyed the character for me. The best thing they could do would be for Robin to really, truly die so that Patrick and Emma can move on with their lives. Especially if it’s true that she won’t be back for at least a couple years.
Frank & Ron are great at destroying beloved characters, for example John McBain and Natalie Buchanan. It just depends on what they need fom the character…..they have no loyalty to the characters fans or history.

‘Gossip’? No. Heartless screwing with the fans by Frank and Ron, yeah actually. Assuming your right of course. I’ll give TPTB the benefit of the doubt until it’s obvious that they were screwing with us. Rule #1, don’t dangle fan favorites in front of GH fans if you can’t back it up or you’ll face serious backlash and outrage. It’s really a betrayal to the fans if it’s some kind of a joke.
They’re just upping their bait and switch tactics…. they’ll try anything except improving the actual stories that they write.

Oh, please. I’m just as loyal a viewer as anyone, and it was nowhere near ‘heartwrenching’ for me to see that picture. Exasperating is the word I’d use. As it is, however, I’m fine with Jason being used as a story construct to facilitate Robin’s exit. Works for me.

There are just too many gullible dorks our there. SB will not return to GH. He signe a ew contract with Y&R. A new actor will play the roll of JM. The character will havd had a face transplant and a story line to go with it. Best bet for the roll is MM who is without a contract since Y&R let him go. But, the JM character will be written back into life for the sole purpose of writing it off the books. It;s the same blue print as is for the Robin character. Now, if JM is kept, it will be with a brand new identity and new story. ( Face change, brain altered, a return towards his medical roots. ) NOTE: GH has been doing a slow but recognizable shift from mob town back to it’s roots as a medical soap show. Still keeping the popular SC and others for flavor but one year from now GH will be thought of as a medical drama soap 80% to 20% mobster drama soap…….. GH-sw/cda….

Well he didn’t deny a GH appearance. Maybe Y&R would be willing to loan him out for a single, brief GH cameo to coincide with Robin’s final day of her GH stint. Ron and Frank have achieved the impossible before and Jill Phelps seems like she would be willing to make that gesture for one scene. In other words, if this isn’t the case, I’m ticked off because that is screwed up to tease the audience to this extent. It would seriously damage my opinion of the integrity of Frank and Ron.

I highly doubt that JFP would allow Steve to go back to GH for any reason.
Other shows have been OK with actors doing that…DOOL with Eileen Davidson to Y&R and Wally Kurth to GH…but they also aren’t contract players, whereas Steve is. I don’t recall a “contract player” doing any crossover work.
Not to mention that no one in the soap industry has the reputation for pettiness to the extent that JFP does.

No, they actually don’t have to get permission to use his image for that. They do have to pay him for it, though. And if he says he signed with YR, I tend to believe him. I don’t think he’s under any sort of ‘gag order’ from ABC. *snort*
Gag orders have been in place before. As for permission, I bet your right. And it’s not clear how long the contract is..
They have, but that’s extremely rare, and requires legal action to do so. Also, there’s no extant reason for ABC to gag him, nor would they have any authority or leverage to do so.
If I’m not mistaken, I believe Burton stated he signed for two more years at least.
Of couse SB is staying on at Y&R – with MM and BM gone, JFP is free to cement Steve Burton in as the leading man on the show, just as he was when they were both on GH – The have already given Dylan the coffee house and made him Nikki’s son, it won’t be long before all of Genoa City revolves around Dylan – just like it was with Jason on GH – that is the reason I stopped watching that soap and started watching Y&R in the first place, and now history is repeating itself.
And when that happens, I will probably wean myself off that show.
I don’t know why he signed another year to Y&R…but then again I have stopped watching Y&R since BM & MM left-the real actors. SB doesn’t have any range, and to be quite honest the role of Dylan should have gone to someone else because he is written very poorly. But even the worst dialogue can show an actors range from his emotions alone, and he doesn’t give that. But that’s JMO. I’m grateful he’s not returning to GH!
Glad he’s staying on Y&R….Sam and Silas are OUTSTANDING together…Michael Easton and Kelly Monaco are like acting soul mates. By the way…Steve Burton’s departure from GH hasn’t hurt GH’s ratings a bit…in fact…they’ve improved.
I beg to differ Steve’s absence has created a huge void and GH is Not the same without him. KM can leave though I don’t like her anyway and I want Patrick back with Sabrina. As for Sam and Silas I hate them together she belongs with Jason!
@ Barbara, SB IMO was dead weight, no void to fill, but he did give room for others to play a role, if he wanted to be sideline, why go to Y&R and be on everyday. He shouldn’t even be in the opening credits on Y&R.

I agree; I love Sam and Silas; they’re wonderful together and have a beautiful dynamic together. Plus, Silas treats her with more respect than Jason ever did. And I categorically regard the idea of ‘belonging’ to one person only is utter codswallop.
No surprise, his sugar momma runs the show and he’s the highest paid actor/model on Y&R. She ran off Stafford, Miller and Muhney to pay this guy even more. Ugh.

Im thrilled that he is NOT coming back to GH. I adore Steve, have since I was a kid watching him on Out of This World, but GH is so much better now that Jason is gone. It become the Jason show. I just hope they don’t recast, cause I don’t want to get back into the Jason show. I want to see the talents of ALL the other actors.
Kimberly could only be on GH for a short time, so they had to give Robin an excuse to leave town, Jason is a good excuse, lets just hope nothing comes of it.

When Jason comes back there WILL NOT be JFP around writing or directing for him so GH will not become the the Steve Burton show the way Y/R has. GH def needs Jason back. Billy Miller will be perfect lets go RC & FV. We are def ready for a Jason return.
Exactly. Why can’t TPTB of all soaps realize that letting one actor or actors dominate a soap eventually will lead to boredom and lower ratings? Even fans who do adore an actor or a couple on a show do not want to see them 24/7. This usually also causes resentment by every else and they turn the channel for sure. It’s happened over and over.
I think Billy Miller should be a Quatermaine from Jimmy Holt’s side of the family. We don’t need Jason, he was Alan’s affair with Susan Moore and she’s dead, and that’s how he should stay.

I agree completely with KatieK. The one thing I am having trouble with (given this storyline) is the ease in which Robin will likely leave Emma. Okay, I can see that she can justify the situation (Patrick is a great dad, he moved on with his life with Sabrina, She (Robin) can’t work with Ulbrecht, I’m sure Robin will discover that Sabrina’s baby is Patrick’s, etc.). BUT, how will she justify leaving Emma EVEN to rescue Jason?
I love Steve Burton, and I enjoy his character on Y&R, and while he will always be Jason to me, I did not think he was going back to GH, and I get it, his Y & R role (Dylan) is versatile, and he gets the schedule that works best for he and his family, but wouldn’t it be funny if Billy Miller takes on the role of Jason, now that he is no longer on Y&R? Again, Steve Burton will always be Jason to me, but I can see Billy Miller giving that part do justice for sure.

MM is not coming to GH the public arena has destroyed him in the daytime. I will have him on my prayer list yes I pray and hope he finds work and peace! Sorry their are a few of us out here that are not afraid to admit we pray that does not make us racist homophobic etc it just makes us having faith! I hope Michael Muhney is cast as the nu Jason Morgan on GH. Steve Burton is a waste on Y&R I would FF through all of his boring scenes prior to quitting the show as a watcher/fan. JFP has literally ruined what was once the number one soap in daytime. GH and DOOL are much better now.
I agree, Toscanti, Steve Burton is SO BORING ON Y&R. GH should do better than that and hire Michael Muhney. He is bound to send ratings soar sky high and be a big asset to the show. I stopped watching Y&R after JFP made it a laughing stock and have been watching GH. I’m keeping my fingers that I will see MM there sooooooooooooon!!!
In a perfect world YR would loan him out for just a day so he could film one scene where Robin goes into the lab to see Helena, Stavros, and Jason in cryo before Victor closes the door behind her.
I wouldn’t say that Burton would NEVER return to GH– as a lot of people have left certain shows over the years & make surprising returns later– but have no hopes of it being anytime soon. They don’t have to bring the character of Jason back until “Robin” makes her next return, and by then they can say it was all a Cassadine trick or recast.
I understand why so many people don’t like the idea of Burton being on YR as a “Friend of Jill” and will agree that Burton is limited in the type of characters he can portray, but I surprisingly like his portrayal of Dylan. The PTSD was some of his best stuff.
I’m glad. GH needs to focus on developing some new characters and ease up a bit on try to recreate past magic. Oh, and eliminate mob wars and guns.
Too bad I won’t watch him on Y&R — he needs to come back to GH permanently.
Since I stopped watching Y&R after Jan 30th he can stay there. Michael Easton and Kelly Monaco are outstanding, entertaining, exciting together as Silas and Sam. GH is better without Steve Burton and and the ratings are good so he can stay with JFP at Y&R. I don`t want Jason to be back but it will be interesting if Michael Muhney takes the role. But if MM is ever going to be cast to play any role at GH it better be someone new.
We all knew he wasn’t going to leave Jill. Good for him. He’s a better Jason than Dylan any way. I also think he was a better actor on GH. He’s just not doing it for me on Y/R. With that said. You did choose sides Steve. Good Luck w that. Bring on Billy Miller. Jason needs to go on & everyone is replaceable. Even Steve Burton. If you love Soaps as I do as long as it’s a believable storyline, I always give replacements a chance for the stories sake.
Apparently signing a contract at Y&R doesnt mean anything. Michael Muhney had signed a new contract in April/13.
Contracts definitely do mean something, but generally when the circumstances involve accusations such as those levied at MM, the contract has a void clause. It’s not uncommon. And it doesn’t mean you can just ‘walk away’ from a contract. Please.
Glad he is staying on Y&R ! GH is a sinking ship and if he went back they would just wreck Jason like every other vet. Maybe all the vets should head over to Y&R.
…sure, if you call a sinking ship steadily increasing ratings (which started rising after Cartini took over an then also surged almost immediately after Jason died), placing within spitting distance of taking over B&B’s spot, and gaining on Y&R. The show has had consistent gains over the last two years and began hitting the 3M viewer mark in October—and then continued hitting that number and above each week since then. Which, by the way, is a viewer total it had not achieved since 2002.

SWEETIE check your facts, KM return and the other vets are why the numbers were up ,Do you really think all those people started watching because of Patrick and Sabrina’s wedding, nope , now that all the vets are leaving I see the numbers going down. plus the numbers mean nothing! People watch because that is what they have done for many many years but if you look at all the blogs the fans are not happy with GH. I watched for 38 years and stopped watching after they wrecked all the vets, but am still a Y&R fan and I am happy all the GH vets are jumping ship.
Um, sorry, but the numbers most certainly DO mean something, and I think the network would beg to differ with you. 😉 And the numbers had started going up long before KM was back on the show, and have continued an upward trend. Meanwhile, there are still many vets still on canvas; not “all” of them are “jumping ship” by a long shot. In fact, Ric Hearst just debuted yesterday, which is in direct contradiction to your claim! Hughes, Grahn, Geary, Benard, Wright, Monaco, Zamprogna, Herring, Elliot, Buchanan Shriner, York, Wagner, and Lindstrom are all still very much on canvas, as is Leslie Charleson. Kinda seems to me that they would constitute “Vets”, wouldn’t they? Are they all “jumping ship”? Um, no.
But it’s impossible to explain such a thing to someone who is quite obviously decided –erroneously, I might add — on the way things are. You may also want to be careful of using words like ‘all’ “everybody” and “nobody”, since you do not speak for those people. And again, the numbers prove that. And again, numbers matter to the network and the advertisers–both of whom I can assure you are very pleased and happy with the show.
Have fun in your bubble, though. It’s no trouble to me. 🙂 I’ll be enjoying the show with the 3-million plus (and growing ) other viewers.

Well, no way could having Steve Burton return to GH make the show worse. It was pretty terrible back in the day when his emotionless mug, along with Sonny’s orange one, were the center of the show, but these days he wouldn’t even be noticed with all the awfulness of the show.
And his underacting would be a welcome relief to the ants-in-his-pants, bugs-down-his-back overacting of Roger Howarth.
Jason isnt coming back to GH…at least for now! Victor is an evil Cassidine and lied to Robin to trick her!!! Fans,however, are funny…for months they wrote Robin needs to come home, that Emma needs her mommy but no one writes Jason needs to come home so baby Danny doesnt grow up without a father?
He will have a father…..Silas Clay, and a Baby sister….watch and see!!

Imagine that — a father figure who isn’t a criminal, thug, and sociopathic killer, emotional abuser, philanderer, and all-around misogynistic, self-absorbed jerk? Who would actually be able to raise kids and not try to pawn them off on others or force the mothers to put them up for adoption because his job is too dangerous, but a job which is also more important to him than any offspring he might have, so someone else has to make the sacrifices so he can do what he wants?

I never believed SB was going back to GH— but I do believe at some point in time they might recast the role of Jason— his frozen state and experiments on him at the clinic could explain away why he would look different. But at this moment in time, I don’t see any place on the canvas for the character Jason— maybe if Sam and Silas ever get married, they bring him back to stop the wedding— it seems to be the thing to do in soaps, bring back th “dead” to stop weddings during sweeps week, but other than that, Jason is just a memory now.
Not liking that she is leaving again she just got back well her husband will just get closer to his baby and when she does come back she’ll be out in the cold.

He isn’t going back to GH because JFP being in charge of Y&R will make sure he is on every single episode. The people in charge at GH like mixing up the characters so what reason would he have to go back.

I actually agree with Matthew. I believe they could use him for one quick shot to show he is actually alive. Then, like they did with the Robin character, not show his character again for a year or so. By then, he can come back to GH, or they can recast the part and people won’t be so angry. It makes a lot of sense.
People are tired of GH and their little tricks, doesn’t make sense, The way they have set it up for the reason why Robin is leaving GH, and they could try to find a look alike for Jason, and let him find his way back to PC he could have had amnesia after the gunshot and just now regaining his memory, Robin could be taking a job at another hospital until they get rid of the New Chief of Staff.
There couldn’t possibly be a “look alike” for Steve Burton. He is One of A Kind! lol
Well they found a look alike for Carol Burnett, and I have lived long enough to know everybody has a twin somewhere, but that is beside the point, AJ could have been a Jason if he wasn’t playing AJ, no you won’t find another Jason, he has made that Character, but you can beat what you are doing, trying to place with people interest in the soap, keep playing and soon you will be like All My Children and One Life To Live, then we will see who has te last laugh ha ha!

This breaks my heart I was so excited when I saw the picture I did know if this happen it would be a long time I know that there is one Jason and if its nor Steve I don’t want it I hate the fact that y and r got you I thought you would be with GH forever its not the same I wish there was something we could say or do to let you know how much you are missed and loved that you have fans that watch you for years and we will wait for your return please come back at sometime and GH needs to do whatever it takes to get u back I liked it better when there was a chance now I’m sad again

I agree 100% with you Jill. I really liked Jason and Sam, they were great together and it took awhile for them to really hook up.
How does GH even have the ability to show Steve Burton’s photo? They must own the rights to the “Jason” character. But with him under contract to another network, how can ABC show his actual picture? It would be the BEST thing for GH if Steve would come back, but if you read his Facebook posts, he is very happy with his family in Nashville, and can fly into L.A. for filming. It seems ABC wasn’t willing to let him do that, and his family was most important to him. Steve Burton KNOWS his GH fans will always support him! Right????
Why would Burton come back? As soon as Ron and Frank were at the helm, they started destroying the Jason character in order to prop up John McBain in order to make it okay for Sam to leave Jason for McBain.
