Susan Lucci Lands Plum Role in Marc Cherry's New Primetime Soap Pilot, Devious Maids!

Now this seems like a fantastic role for soap icon, Susan Lucci! When we first read this we were grinning from ear to ear!  Lucci has been cast in one of the co-starring and primo roles in Desperate Housewives, Marc Cherry’s new ABC primetime soap pilot Devious Maids!

According to Deadline.com,  “Lucci will play one of the employers, Genevieve Delacourt, a beautiful, wealthy woman who is gently crazy.  Having spent her adult life attracting one powerful man after another, she’s reduced to seducing the Armenian pool boy, and the vertiginous drop in her sexual status has left her — well, the word is nuts.  Unused to having men walk past her as if she were as sexless as a mailbox, Genevieve is feeling suicidal. ”

Devious Maids follows four maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills and one of course now being La Lucci!

What do you think of Susan’s new role?  Can’t you totally see her chewing the scenery with this part?  We can!

It sounds super exciting Michael! When is this going to air? Sounds very much like another Erica Kane! She will make the show perfect. Will be a delight to watch. To bad it’s on ABC. They don’t deserve her!

Yeah, chewing the scenery. Perfect for her.

thats funny,Its suppose to be funny, right?

yes, totally supposed to be funny. I mean when you think of Erica Kane you think of someone stomping her feet, flicking her hair back, waving her arms, gazing up adoringly at a man . . . and always, no matter the weather, even in an ice storm, she’s in at least a sleeveless top, but usually strapless. Everyone else is in turtlenecks & down coats but here comes Erica in a strapless ball gown. Lord knows Susan Lucci has been loyal & a good thing for daytime but I’ve always said her character is more “camp”, cartoonish-which is why I believe it was so hard for her to win an Emmy. I, personally have no desire to see Susan Lucci ever again if it’s gonna be another Erica character. I also think AMC could have gone along just fine without Erica.

Not my cup of tea!!!!!

well everything you said is true ,I wont be watching ,I dont like cartoons anyway ,and I dam sure dont like abc/disney.another show I hope fails .abc/disney said that people dont watch the soaps any more and It seems that every day they are coming up with another dumb prime time soap, and tempting me with soap stars is not going to work, not for me,I loved all my children and one life to live and I am fighting to get them back if you want to know the truth I feel insulted that the soap stars would chose to stay with the network that killed the soaps susan lucci was pissed off at abc and she said so,shes not lacking in the ,I dont have a job ,she has several projects going. I believe abc/disney is hiring the soap stars to suck us in again ,and its not going to work for me.

@ Gloria: ” I, personally have no desire to see Susan Lucci ever again if it’s gonna be another Erica character. I also think AMC could have gone along just fine without Erica. ”

I never looked at her character of being cartoonish “camp”, but the example you provided gave me a good picture of why you did, and perhaps others. As my post below (plus my Feb 10th/ Gloria Estafan’s video post) I have been a STAUNCH
Susan Lucci supporter, but I am tired of seeing her play Erica Kane in every role! Go to the page of Gloria Estefan’s post. I’m the 3rd post, David responds to me, and then for an overall view of the situation, I write this compare and contrast statement. I then post a clip from Youtube of the best performance I have EVER see her do ANYWHERE…! David then looked at Susan in a totally new perspective (when U stroll done on that page U will see him offering her the benefit of the doubt, BOTH he and Ethel). Stroll 3 places below THIS page & he still holds true to it, (below) Ethel brings up something close to what U said about that Emmy. I think Susan should have won the Emmy for getting out her bed for 40 years, learning all those lines and entertaining us. But in 39 years of Emmy’s she COULD/ SHOULD of certainly won at least FIVE. There are a combinatin of many factor’s why that didn’t happen: that character/too close to Lucci in a physical nature, jealousy in the industry, the writer’s, and Susan Lucci herself picking the same type of roles in outide projects. And as I posted below, with AMC having ended, “one would think she should want to DISPLAY some other range in her acting chops & abilities in THIS next phase of her career. ”
Go to the Feb 10 Gloria Estefan page starting at the top and read. And check out the video, in my opinion is her best work anywhere….

I just saw the video & read all the related posts. To clarify, I have been a Susan Lucci fan since day 1. Watched AMC from the beginning (well, as best I could since I was 9 then). And I know that she has a reputation of being very kind & helpful to new actors & is just a good person. Fine. But over the years when everyone complained/wondered about her never winning the Emmy I really got to thinking about why. And that’s when I came to my conclusion of her being just “too Erica” all the time, if that makes any sense. One dimensional, I guess. I mean she changed some after Bianca was born but really right up to the last scene of AMC she was just the same, self-centered, overly dramatic, gushing glamour queen. And when you compared her performances to the other Emmy nominees you could see why she did not win. Yes, she was loyal to daytime, a huge champion for us but at the same time on her talk show appearances & interviews she always recites so cutely all of Erica’s names & then the darn scene of Erica standing down the bear, stating “Don’t you know who I am ? . . . ) and everyone laughs & it makes people think soaps are ridiculous & stupid. And yeah, sometimes they are but only soap fans should be allowed to say that! I hate when people make fun of soaps.

I think you mentioned Farrah Fawcett’s performance in the Burning Bed & let me tell you, I had read the book before I saw that movie-OMG-Farrah blew me away. That’s what I am talking about. Stretch yourself as an actor. ACT! Yes, Susan did some movies of the week a long time ago, I can barely remember but I don’t know if they were THAT much different from Erica. And really we should blame the writers of AMC for doing that to her & not giving her material to spread her wings.

And I really cannot believe she would take a job from ABC. She certainly does not need to & after the way they have treated everyone in the soap world, well I am disappointed.

And as for those who want to see Erika Slezak on a sitcom? I would rather remember her in the den of Llanfair & never see her again, rather than to see her on something unworthy of her. Most sitcoms these days are too stupid for words & she would never sink to that level. I can really only picture her in theater or a Meryl Streep type movie role. I really just want OLTL back with her front & center-problem solved.

miss oltl… can’t see Ms. Slezak playing anyone else but VIKI>>>>

gloria what you wrote march 12th at 1158 am,you are absolutely right ,I have been a fan of susan lucci till this new show she will be on,1love abcsoaps said it all a few weeks ago and now you,she was so pissed off at at abc/disney about killing all my children then she turns around and stays with the network she should still be mad at ,also she had a meeting with marc cherry before all my children ended so how long did she know about the soaps being cancelled ,I also agree with you ,erika slezak should never be on a sit com ,none of them are any good ,I would like her to be in a well written drama not on abc/disney.back to susan lucci,I am very disappointed in her ,no longer a fan.

@ Barbara: “I am very disappointed in her ,no longer a fan. ”

Once again at mid-night, I am lmao! That’s it, Cut and dry, ” no longer a fan”.
PERIOD. Fade to Black.

Didn’t know she met with Marc Cherry before AMC ended. Where did you hear that? Susan is more like Erica than she would like folk to think.

She will great for this role, she is great in anything she does. I’am looking forward to this show even though ABC has not brought backAMC. I’m still hope one day AMC and OLTL will be back but, until then I will still look forward to seeing Susan on this new show.

I happy for Susan and for Brianna Brown, but what I wouldn’t give to see Erika Slezak or Florencia Lozano! How can people ignore the talent of OLTL just because it was between AMC and GH?

I agree ,If I had to choose who is the better actress my vote goes to erika slezak and florencia lozano, where are they?I hope not anywhere near a abc/disney contract, but somewhere else so we can see them.

Same ole Erica Kane role.
I know the guy and woman on this site I defended her against is going to post the same thing. It’s ALWAYS: rich and powerful men; men chasing/swarning over her; appealing to her Erica Kane ego; seducing men; she’s always wealthy; and having servants/ staff bow to her. Yawning…. It’s the same ole Erica Kane character.
Let me see her play a lawyer, or someone trying to figure out the bad guy, or a complicated case, a detective, investigator, or a victim that rescues herself without the need of a man. We ALL know Susan Lucci is beautiful, she was born that way. We don’t need to be reminded in everything she does INCLUDING Gloria Estefans video. I defend this woman like nobodies business and right on this site, and Gee…, ALL my life really being such a fan. But at some point, (and after 40 years on AMC and outside projects over the years playing rich and beautiful swarned by men) one would think she should want to DISPLAY some other range in her acting chops & abilities (ESPECIALLY with AMC having ended ) in THIS next phase of her career. Of course I will support, BUT for all of you that have shut ABC down (other than GH) will you?

I am sure Susan could do so much more than Erica Kane if people gave her the chance. Unfortunately, she is rigidly typecast. The limitation has nothing to do with Susan, but with stereotypes in narrow-minded people.

I don’t think Marc Cherry has any interest in creating a show reflecting real women. This is about satirical entertainment based on denigrating stereotypes of women–look at the title and plot premise. I think most women ought to be offended that this kind of cheap humor passes for entertainment at their expense, but it’s probably too early to accurately judge.

That being said, I am sure Susan will do a great job and will be an asset to the production. But I feel sorry her talent is wasted on portraying such an offensive stereotype. The idea that middle-age or older women are naturally undesirable sexually and would consider suicide isn’t funny no matter how it is played (but we can count on ABC making it as humorous as possible for ratings).

i could not agree with you more – lets see her tackle something besides being a sexy diva because anybody can stand there smile & play in their hair – i believe that’s why she only won one emmy………………jmo

susan is busy, shes on army wives ,the new I d channel gig in the fall and now this,I wont watch ,abc/disney is trying so hard to win us back ,for this soap fan it wont happen, she better watch out ,marc cherry may slap her to like he did niccoltte sheradan .you are right it is a erika cane role.how come ericka slezack cant get a job acting somewhere ?I would like to see her,and I hope it wont be on abc/disney,nice try abc ,I dont care if abc hires the whole cast of all my children,I made up my mind to boycott anything on abc except general hospital and I am sticking to it.

Now I know what U mean when U were saying in post about being stuck in time…. LOL The Recent Chatter finally changed over to new names somewhere after 7pm, but those names (some mine) have been there for the last 4 hours. Anyway, click on the web page and laugh Ur ass off. There are poster’s on there like U you, and poster’s on there like those on here. In other words, some are funny, sweet, or down right rude. When U go to THAT page and read THAT page, THEN click on the arrow on the right for the next picture to show and luao!

( Dont forget to click the arrow to the right to view the next picture afterward and read comments) Folks crazy. Let me know.

Good for you! My sentiments exactly. I’ve stopped watching all things ABC except for GH. I am finding very entertaining programs on CBS and NBC. The Today show is far more informational/entertaining than GMA ever was! Let’s all band together and stick to this ABC boycott.

I know ,its never happened like it did today, wonder what happened ,maybe someone fell asleep on the job,I was board all day, I like to come here and see what is going on.did you hear that some people who taped general hospital last week for 2 days the tape didnt go through so they couldnt watch it ,some one thinks it was a way to bring the ratings down,I hope not, then again I dont trust the way they do the ratings ,so many people dont get counted.I hope that tomorrow isnt a slow day here like today was.

WHATS HAPPENING?this happened a while back ,doesnt it make you feel like your the only one left in the world, till my dogs started barking or my kitty runs across my key board,I keep forgetting to bring up kate, you really dont like her? I dont want her with sonny ,but I still think she is interesting, took a while for me to start liking her because she is so different from kate 1,what happened to her?I asked someone a while back and they never got back to me ,megan ward ,she just dropped off the face of the earth ,did she quit?did they get rid of her?I cant find out anything.WHAT HAPPENED TO HER,AND HERE?9:57

they were funny,I would never, ever put my self in a show like that and have people talk about me ,DID you go to soaptown looselips and read that ron is talking to your trevor st.john? I hope so.1:43 sunday.keeping track of my time .

Gotta do that… Thanks. Thanks my baby!

I’m happy for Susan.

She stayed with AMC, it got canceled, sadly, but another door was opened for her. She deserves it!!

Unfortunately I have an everything-but-GH boycott on ABC and I in light of ABC/Disney’s recent shenanigans with the whole Tivo thing, I don’t see that changing any time soon. I won’t be watching.

from what I heard abc/disney owns her ,not the other way around ,so she might as well stay with the mouse house .I wont be watching ,Its abc/disneys way of getting the soap fans to tune in,they lost alot of viewers because they canceled the soaps ,they want us back.that will never happen with me .there dumb shows are getting really bad ,anything I see during general hospital,I dam sure dont want to watch, not because Im boycotting ,they look really bad ,daytime and prime time has gone downhill.

Hey, in Recent Chatter today on the Homepage, Dee’s post filled up all of Recent Chatter today, Saturday 3/10. (Ur post was last on Recent Chatter). What happens, does this site close down on the weeknds, bc noone’s name stays up on Recent Chatter all day for hours……?
Which means there were no new ” post ” showing elsewhere on the site! Although we all get busy on Saturdays with family and such, some of us find Saturdays the best time to catch up on here. So again, does this site close down on weekends or what? I’ve noticed things moving slowly before on weekend but never like today.

What’s the deal with the whole Tivo thing your talking about? I still watch GH and Housewives and some others on ABC. I don’t watch Army Housewives but heard she was going to be on it next week. Just went to my actor wishlist and viewed her upcoming episodes and all that came up was Soapnet AMC and a pilates thing. I like Susan Lucci and I am going to watch her new show. I’ll see how it is.

wow, sounds like a stereo typical /racist show, four maids, all hispanic, really? marc cherry, sounds like maybe Nicolette Sheridan is right about you.

Though I haven’t followed closely Susan’s career as I don’t watch AMC, I will say this sounds like a nice promotion for her career. I wish her the best!

Bravo for Lucci , tv, fans and entertainment. Yes, sad she is typecast and that’s life. Erica Kane is iconic and when you hire Lucci sadly people want Erica Kane. We know she can act if you have seen some of her movies but still the world knows her as Erica Kane and people who hire her hire that cachet. Come on, who really knows Erika Sleazak as great as she is an actress? But they know Erica Kane or the woman who took for ever to win an Emmy. Marc Cherry like Discovery, Army Wives and Hot In Cleveland hire Lucci to be Erica Kane – it is rare someone is that identifiable through a character. Note, even HIC writes Susan Lucci as Erica Kane but those who know Lucci know she isn’t close to Erica Kane – hence showing she can act. Too bad she is just a co star; wouldn’t it have been great to see her as a lead. But ageism does seem to exist. Hopefully some of those other out of work actors from the soaps will get jobs but there is a lot of competition out there. And ageism exists to this day sadly.

I only watch GH……because of the Mannings. I will never tune into ABC again…..nor will anyone in my house…..nor will I see a Disney movie…..or any of it’s other studios….nor will Disney gifts be purchased ever again for any of the children in my family. I think they are run by disgusting greedy misers without any respect for their loyal viewers. I stopped watching the View, Modern Family, and Castle. I never started Revenge…..nor will I watch any future drivel from the creative minds at ABC. It would take Erica Slezak being cast as the one of the wives for me to bend on this issue.

Another person that says what he means and means what he says.

Do you watch General Hopsital?
How do you know that your children don’t have on abc when not in your presense?

-Oprah will interview Bobby Christian on OWN tomorrow night, Sunday 3/11
-Finale of the Bachelor Monday night, heard he picked Courtney. 3/12

I won’t boycott ABC and still watch shows there. Yes I miss my AMC and OLTL alot but I also love other ABC shows. I wish Susan Luck on her new show and I will watch it. I may even record Army Wives just to see her next week.

I think for Susan Lucci to be her age, an ethnic female, and known mainly only for her work in daytime nonetheless, to even be offered primetime roles is incredible. And even moreso, as a lead! No matter what we may think of her versitility as a character, her range shouldn’t be questioned. As Erika, I believed she was genuinely disgraced and disgusted when her youngest daughter came out. I believed she hated her oldest daughter for showing back up in her life and reminding her of a past she’d rather have forgotten. Yet, in the end, you couldn’t convince me that there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for those two. She played weak damsel one scene, and jungle lion next. She gave you strung out during her intervention with her brother Mark, Jackson, and children. She could make you feel apart of a scene with that million dollar smile, or make you feel like she was coming after you with that angry glare. She gave you a over-bearing little girl from nowhere, and showed you what her life was like and how she turned out 40 years later. Good choices, bad choices, in both business and personal. She pulled off background, supporting, lead, comedy, drama……..the list goes on.
Fact of the matter is, she became the póster child for the soap world. Soaps had been dying long before last years cancellations. And why? Because of “us”. The people who didn’t take the time to túne in. Or stopped watching simply because they’re favorite characters weren’t featured enough. Or because theyve didn’t like the writing at the time. Then, the ratings declined. And kept declining. Til finally some jerk felt like they didn’t matter anymore, and started cutting soaps left and right. And it’s only going to continúe if we keep up this ‘ I deserve what I’VE come to expect in just MY head and I want EXACTLY what I want, ALL the time’ kind of attitudes. Instead of actually just being TRUE FANS of not just the soaps, but the amazing actors who’ve made us love, hate, cry, bitch, and every other emotion or reaction caused by a classic soap scene.
Marc Cherry has proven himself a soap fan. Look how many former soaps stars are/were/have been on Desperate Housewives. Or in cases like Tuc, were given the chance to do primetime as well as daytime at once, and shine a little light back on daytime soaps. AND also keep in mind, his characters are not always what they appear to be. To look at Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria, two former soap stars, (one even being from ABC at one point), their characters have gone leaps and bounds from the cliché characters they were defined as before the show ever premiered.
So, I say bravo Lucci for still standing tall in the game. Bravo Cherry for casting more former soap stars and not the same old faces from other cancelled primetime shows. Or even the big thing now, which is taking more spots from televisión actors, and casting movie actors and even worse reality television stars. AND, the show even revolves around four hispánic women!!! A diverse primetime satire, starring some former daytime stars! CURSE YOU MARC CHERRY! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US!” lol.
And ps, I was never really a fan of Days, GH, or Y&R. But when I looked at the bigger picture, you better believe my tivo is set to récord every day. And I watch movies and others shows when I see a soap actor name attached!
I am a soap fan!!!! So instead of bitching because they’re not doing what we’d ideally want them too. Let’s support and celebrate and try and keep from losing daytime all together!

Sorry to anyone I’ve offended!

Hollywood is always casting minority women as maids. No thank you, I will not watch this show. Hollywood is racist and will never change.

It is amazing how people have such differing opinions. Also, the dedicaton to AMC and OLTL is amazing. I know I cna’t convince people but I have seen Susan Lucci in Army wies and she was great in a non Erica role. In fact, she was great in a non erica role in The Secret of Anastasia miniseries. Still people wanted Erica Kane and thus her movie roles and probably Devious Maids. I do blame the writers for not giving Lucci more range. We have seen she can do it but they rarely wrote for her – it’s llike relied on Lucci to make crap look like gold. I think Lucci has great comedic timing; she has th emain problem that Erica kane is such an inconic role and she is identified with this role. You can’t say too many people are so identifaible with one role. Man of us cannot name Streep’s many characters sbut Lucci is Erica Kane though all reports are she isn’t Erica Kane in real life – which is a testament to her acting. Seh is needs casting agents to give her non Erica roles which she is more than capable ofhandling but I do think the world would have trouble of her playing an old grandmother fending for her children or fight some disease after seeing Hotel Nationel video. She looked like an amazing sultry cougar.

I have not watched ABC or Disney since the last day of AMC. Them giving Susan Lucci this role will not change that, death to ABC!

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

Photo: ABC

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Now, let us know, did you enjoy Carol as Verla Grubbs? What show do you consider yourself a Superfan of? Tell us in the comment section.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Photo: ABC

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Share you remembrances and condolences for Malachy McCourt via the comment section, but first check out this scene from a 1983 episode of “Ryan’s Hope” featuring the late actor with Ilene Kristen.
