Tabyana Ali Makes Her Debut As General Hospital’s New Trina
Friday’s, March 25th episode of General Hospital, brought with it the on-screen debut of Tabyana Ali as Trina Robinson. As viewers know, Ali replaced popular actress Sydney Mikayla in the role.
Mikayla had decided to leave the ABC daytime drama series to go to college full-time. With that, GH auditioned her replacement and Tabyana won the part.
In her debut episode, Ali was thrown into the mix with key characters and actors in Trina’s storyline including parents, Portia (Brook Kerr) and Marcus Taggert (Réal Andrews).
Additionally, Tabyana appeared opposite, Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer), where Trina gave the guy a giant brush-off, and later had a run-in with Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Cameron (William Lipton) over everyone believing Trina is responsible for the video showing Joss and Cam making love going viral and in the their classroom. Of course, the audience knows Esme (Avery Pohl) is framing Trina for it.
So, what were your first impressions of Tabyana as NuTrina? Let us know in the comment section, but first check out Ali in scenes with Eden McCoy below.

These are TOUGH shoes to fill. I thought she did well the first day, though a little soft for Trina. I think she’ll do okay if the writers don’t dumb her down. But I’ll really miss Sydney M. regardless.
Soaphound
I agree, but her little baby voice kind of gets on my nerves. Also, again am still not liking nuJordan, too haughty. Maybe she’ll soften some.
I – finally – had my take, last Friday episode 3/18… when the whole show focused on two upchuck “story” 1. Esme , why do they show characters, so desperate, especially, since these were words, you’d never hear ???? she hit rock bottom, with that episode w/Spencer… Another , can you shut her up? she’s neither emoting… a desperation, or pathetic… it’s just not cylinder… showing barely any facial expression.. so not worthy .shooting blanks nonstop
2ndly . Jeepers… watching Laura Wright w/Drew on the bridge !!! as they attempted a “playful attempt” at come hithers…. “you’d do that for me ” show up in a courtoom ???? wtf ? as the casual banter, ready smile… were spot on already ODD… no matter how you spin…. @Laura Wright does not portray a feminine heroine or a womanhood who doesn’t know shit about being flirty, playful, give and take, banter , bandy about wants and needs… this is worse than uptight… with no personality or sense of humor !!!! she’s always in the drivers seat, for a reason… as they all kowtow… i’m sick of it… lackeys sonny, michael, Josselyn… so they rally around.. by themselves.. QUE : camera fades … i’m sure theirs a storyboard already waiting for these dullard’
I LIKE nuJordan… probably because she has presence, AND so reminds me of Brandi !!! PLUS… the chemistry was instantaneous w/Molly, TJ, and especially Shawn !!! he must know this and is LEAVING…. !!! argh! i’m certain he just got tired of this debacle… writing sucks… executive producer runs roughshod in and around his favorites (the corinthos’) i truly believe that nepotism , played a big part w/ Laura Wright and Wes Ramsey. SICK !!! to disrespect this genre
I agree
She stepped right in, strong self assured Trina wasn’t coming through yet. IMO she will be fine. and did well. But she is gonna need that intelligent and tough edge to get past Esme. I just wish she could realize she was drugged by Esme that night.
bob
I was thinking the same thing. I bet you when Esme is found out, and she will be, she will spill her guts and be more than willing to brag about everything she’s done. I am just wondering who she’ll blame as to why she did all this or will she proudly say it was her dear old dad.
She going to put it on daddy dear
With her mom being a doctor, you would think it would cause a red flag to black out after one drink. Plus her dad was an undercover cop…. Also I can’t wait until they reveal that her dad is actually Curtis.
It’s really tough to replace an actress who was so well-liked, be thrown right in the middle of a major storyline, AND interact with so many different characters on your debut. But I thought Tabyana did a fantastic job right from the jump, and seems to have chemistry with all the other characters. It seems like the GH casting department has done it again!
Tabyana did a great introductory episode, and definitely will miss Sydney, but so excited for her future. GH has definitely got a great young cast with lots of options for stories to be explored. I hope that Y and R can figure it out (aka Faith and Moses, etc.) for it is called YOUNG and the RESTLESS for a reason. And B and B does not even have any kids around to even SORAS unless Douglas (who is fantastic) and Kelly and Beth…
She is no Sydney(who was incredible in the role) but she’s better than the new Jordan. I hope Sydney changes her my and comes back, she and Nicholas Chavez were great together.
she, also, clearly, had chemistry with Cameron… before the writers , balked, and took that away, from Trina… and all of a sudden, it was back to Joss and Cameron… WTF ??? NEW Jordan is already setting fire !!!! Shawn, was in to her… so weren’t we
okay did I miss her interacting w/ Spencer? what? I saw her debut acting opposite her parents, then Joslyn and cam then it finished w/ Jordan coming to question her, where and when did she have scenes with Spencer ?
Michael your smoking something or your getting extended scenes from GH that the rest of us are not, I went back to rewatch the episode and no flashbacks or scenes w/ nutrina w/ Spencer, he just got out of lock up so I’m not crazy,.
aria
I noticed it was shown in bits and pieces, really odd, but she went to see Spencer for about five minutes, than to school and than PCPD, wierd.
I think she did a great job capturing the spirit of Trina and putting her own stamp on her, as well. Great job!
She is a lovely young lady, hopefully the “powerfull Trina” emerges more in the weeks to come. The arrest outrage was a little weak on the episode when she was arrested.
I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like her right away! I absolutely ADORE Sydney Mikayla and am disappointed she has left the show but I understand her reasons.
Tabyana Ali is a bit softer than Sydney in the role – Sydney has a fierceness about her, a no nonsense sensibility. But I found Trina and Joss’s scene quite effective on Friday and her scenes with Jordan, Portia, Curtis, and Taggert were all very good. I want to see what her chemistry is like with Chavez’s Spencer – sometimes the chemistry is there with a recast and other times it isn’t so waiting to see which way it will go.
As for the storyline I really do wish they would all work together to expose Esme! It’s a soap so I doubt it will happen but I wish they would be smart about it and nobody should doubt Trina’s innocence!
She’s feeling out the role doing okay but would like to see some of the stronger Trina attitude back defending herself. The emotion is missing.
On another note: the new Jordan HAS got to loosen up those skinny legged pants. Not what I’d want to see on the PC of PCPD to the point of inappropriate?!
I don’t like the new Jordan. Esme character is just to unreal. Time for the truth to come out.
Don’t like the new Trina. Need a recast.
Now that Sonny has Spinelli looking into the “sex tape” thing, NuTrina won’t have to be worried for long. And with any luck, Spinelli might also stumble on to an electronic paper trail which discloses who Esme’s actual parents are. We already know Ryan is her father. Still say Harmony is her mother, since we now know she’s also a confirmed psycho killer. Great genetics there, huh?
Satan
Her actual parents and her adoptive parents, and what she may/probably have done to them. We know that Harmony is not Willows mother and I don’t really think she is Esme’s. Also, I’m wondering if she was forced somehow to kill Neil? Did she have a motive of her own, or was she being used?
Between Curtis’s father and Auntie Stella the new house party was a bust.Good thing there are two doctors there for Stella. Iam confused, I thought when Sonny saw
Marshall’s medicine bottle at the hospital he recognised it as being what he takes himself for his Bi-Poler disorder but today he told Stella it was his heart meds ??
Spencer and Trina at the gallery should be pretty exciting. It will be explosive when these two finally ” get together” and we know it’s only a matter of time. It will not only be monumental for them but Esme will explode into a million pieces when she finds out. I also think she will try seducing Nickolas if she can.
I miss Sydney a lot. She owns that role and plays it to a “T” and the new Jordan just doesn’t work for me either. Maybe in time I will feel different about them, but right now they both stink.
When is Esme going to get her just desert? This story line is dragging on too long. It’s time all the dirt comes out about what she did, who her father is and what she’s up to so that Trina and Spencer can get together and Esme can join her father.
I don’t like the new Trina. Trina was strong and confident. The new Trina is timid and seems insecure. She needs to step up her game or find someone else.
Our new Trina looks small and lost with her friends and seems to be not getting her friend Joss at all. Today, she just looms over Trina and is it that time of the month or has she always been this overpowering and bitchy? Another Carly in the making?
Oh Violet, I felt sadly the same yesterday. Finally a good dramatic scene was underway with Joss confronting Spencer with Cam about to intervene…and Trina looked adrift. Her expression and body language didn’t match the others or even the events. For the second time since her debut, I’m starting to worry about losing interest in what could still be a compelling character. Not sure what should be done…But something needs to change. Now.
Why is she still missing from the opening credits?

RATINGS: ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Remain No #1 and # 2, ‘General Hospital’ Only Soap to Lose Viewers
The latest Nielsen ratings data is out for the week of April 27-May 1, and three out of the four network daytime dramas posted gains in total viewers, while one showed a loss in audience numbers, which may come as a surprise.
Let’s take a look at the ratings period with data from Soap Opera Network and then provide some context. The Young and the Restless remained as per usual in the top spot coming in at 3,14,000 on average total viewers slightly up +20,000 more eyeballs for the week.
In story, Y&R served up Matt’s plot to blow up the Newmans inside the abandoned gas station on the outskirts of Vegas, Sienna believing she killed Matt, only for him to be revealed alive with a severe contusion on his head by week’s end, Nick going on a bad drug trip thanks to the fentanyl laced with something else via Matt, and Cane and the Winters family learning that he is a donor match to save Malcolm’s life, while Sally got engaged to Billy.

FASHION HOUSE PROBLEMS
Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful clocked in with 2,795,000 viewers for the week up +38,000 from the previous ratings period. In story, The Bold and the Beautiful gave viewers; the fallout from Katie’s successful fashion show for her new fashion house, Logan. Dylan continuing to be freaked out. This time when doing her work at Forrester Creations, out from the clothing rack comes somebody that scares her enough to have her let out a blood-curdling scream. In addition, Liam suggested to Hope that she consider coming to work for Logan where she will be appreciated, after Steffy tells her that ‘Hope for the Future’ is back-burnered for now.
General Hospital, which many have considered being the most entertaining on a consistent basis with their storylines, most likely lost some viewers for the week because on Monday April 27, the show was preempted for a special report on the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondence dinner. If viewers did not catch it on Hulu, it aired on the network after Nightline on Tuesday at 1am. In total, GH was the only soap to lose viewers for the ratings week. GH tallied -1,809,000 which is down from the previous week by -168,000.

PAYBACK AND A SHOCKING REVEAL
In story that week, Carly’s double life with Brennan and Valentin caught up with her, Michael initiated a strategic plot against Willow, and Josslyn found herself in immediate danger after a run-in with Cassius.
Beyond the Gates, while having two days of the week fully preempted for UEFA Champions League soccer games, actually increased its viewership. BTG tallied 1,655,00 total viewers which also boasted the highest audience gains across any soap adding +42,000. In story, the soap opera spotlighted: Ashley stealing antibiotics to keep Grayson alive, Smitty zeroing in on a possible suspect in the plasma ring, Vernon taking over Martin’s debt to Joey Armstrong, while Kate recognized a name tied to Lynette’s finances.
It should also be noted for the ratings week; The Bold and the Beautiful once again topped Y&R for the top spot in the key Womens 18-49 demo and in the Womens 25-54 demo, Beyond the Gates once again bested General Hospital for the 3rd spot.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Would You Be Down With a Dante and Elizabeth Romance?
On the Friday, May 15 episode of General Hospital, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) shared a heartfelt talk on trauma. Dante is so concerned for Rocco (Finn Carr), and how it affects someone for the rest of their life, which is something Elizabeth knows all too well, but got through it.
It all begins when Elizabeth shows up at Dante’s office ready for her date with Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst). How beautiful she looked did not go unnoticed by Dante. When the talked turned to how Dante told Rocco that he knew his son shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), he admits he is scared for his child, because he lost his innocence with the emotional baggage he now must carry forever of shooting someone.
Dante notices how Rocco is becoming more and more withdrawn and he wants to know how to help him. Elizabeth bring up how she can absolutely relate to trauma at a young age, just like Rocco. However for Elizabeth, her trauma came in the form of a brutal rape by Tom Baker. Speaking from experience, Elizabeth details that it was her friends and family like Lucky and Bobbie who helped pull her through. She encourages Dante to continue to show up and be there as support for his son.

SPECIAL DELIVERY
Next, an officer delivers to Dante the evidence from the pier shooting, which Dante plans on destroying. Before she leaves for her date with Ric, Liz reassured Dante he is doing the right thing to protect Rocco and she has done the same. She has left no record of Rocco’s hospital visit the night of the shooting. Liz leaves for her date.
THE WRONG SUSPECT
Then, Cullum storm troops in to Dante’s office demanding the evidence that the PCPD must have collected at the site of his shooting. Dante says that the evidence must be misfiled in the warehouse, but they will find it. However, Cullum realizes Dante is stalling and lying. Before heading to Dante’s office, Cullum paid a visit to Carly (Laura Wright) and saw a photo of Danny with Jason, triggering him to now believe that Danny may have been the person who shot him in the back on the pier!

DINING WITH RIC
At dinner at Café Cherie, Ric handed Elizabeth the folder with the priceless piece of artwork he’d purchased for her through Ava. Elizabeth loved it and went over to Ric and planted a kiss on him.
Will GH move Elizabeth into a romance with Dante? Do you think Liz and Dante make a cute couple? After today’s episode, it’s clear they very much like and admire one another. If so, what happens to Liz and Ric’s burgeoning repeat romance? Share your thoughts and picks via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante Tells Rocco He Knows He Shot Cullum and Will Protect Son
In well-played scenes on the Thursday, May 14 episode of General Hospital, Dante (Dominic Zampogna) finally had a talk with his son, Rocco (Finn Carr) informing him that he knows the teen shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).
Rocco has dreaded his father finding out, because he is the acting police commissioner of the Port Charles PD and feared his dad will have to arrest him for the crime.
Dante asks Rocco in his own words to recount what happened the night on the pier. He assured his son, he is not going to arrest him and noted there are very extenuating circumstances surrounding the crime.

Courtesy/ABC
FATHER AND SON
Rocco explained how he followed Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) to the pier. Then, how Cullum attacked Britt. Jason (Steve Burton) showed up and fought with Cullum and how the gun came loose. He remembers the other weapon Cullum pulled out to kill Jason and that’s when he shot him.
Next, Dante explained that he was proud of his son for saving Jason and Britt’s lives. He also tells Rocco that he is very concerned in Britt’s involvement in all of this stemming all the way back to the Five Poppies, and feels she is still tied into everything that is happening.
Dante tells Rocco that nobody else can know about this involvement in the shooting. He also touchingly said, that he is his father, he will protect him. However, Rocco is worried that if the truth came out that he shot Cullum, his dad would be in serious trouble for covering up a crime. Dante tells Rocco, he should not worry about that right now, but he needs to stay in Port Charles so he and his mom can keep him safe.
A SHOCKING CALL
Suddenly, as father and son hug it out, Dante gets a call from Justine (Nazneen Contractor), alerting him to the fact that she just met with Cullum and he is looking for the evidence and the file from his shooting. Dante rolls his eyes, knowing things are about to go from bad to worse, and how is he going to keep his son safe from the evil WSB Director?
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Dominic Zamprogna always delivers a nice counterbalance to the often histrionics of other characters in Port Charles in his portrayal of Dante Falconeri. So that, when Dante breaks or gets emotional, it counts. Finn Carr has continually shined in the storyline as Rocco continues to teeter on the edge of knowing what he has done and being wracked with guilt. Next up has to be Danny learning his brother is the reason Jason was carted away. Stay tuned!
So, what did you think of the scenes between Dante and Rocco? How on earth will Dante keep Rocco safe? Share your thoughts via the comment section.
