Tamara Tunie Sings as Anita Dupree Takes to the Stage on ‘Beyond the Gates’ and Fans and Pundits Are Loving it!
This week, daytime has been all abuzz when on the new CBS daytime drama, Beyond the Gates, the storyline successfully weaved in some singing (as they had promised) featuring front and centerstage, the matriarch of the Dupree family, Anita Dupree, as played by television veteran, Tamara Tunie.
In the back-story of Beyond the Gates, Tunie’s Anita was a former lead singer of a girl group (think Supremes!) called The Articulettes. She later went on to have a successful solo career as a jazz singer. Now on Monday’s April 21st episode of the soap, Anita’s daughter Dani (Karla Mosley) and granddaughter Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) had a plan to get the former singing superstar up on stage at a Karaoke night.
At first, reticent, Anita takes to the stage with the women, but has some jitters. When the music begins to play, she stops and needs to reset feeling her nerves, but looks out into the audience to see her beloved husband, Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) sitting their and encouraging her that all is going to be alright, even though she had expressed to Vernon she needs to be prepared when she sings in public.

When she did perform along with Naomi and Dani, it was pretty perfect, and along with the choreography and the singing by Tamara Tunie, backed by Arielle Prepetit and Karla Mosley was not only endearing, but showcased the depth of the talent in the cast of the first new daytime drama in over 25 years.
Anita, of course, voiced her concern that she hoped no one was taping her performance on their phone so it would not shatter the world’s impression of the once very famous singing superstar. However, will her performance open up a new opportunity for Anita?
In a recent interview on the Michael Fairman Channel, Arielle Prepetit teased the karaoke moment sharing, “We have a lot of singers in this cast. In the show, Naomi is the only one who inherits her grandmother’s gift of singing. And if you stay tuned, you might get a musical number very shortly!”

Meanwhile, Karla Mosley took to her Instagram and shared more details on the behind the scenes of the taping of the musical number, when she shared: “Working with Tamara Tunie and Arielle Prepetit on this was a highlight of this first season for me. And shooting this episode – where the Duprees got to be drama free (you know a storm’s about to come, chillren 😮💨) was so much fun. It also occurred to me as I watched Dani’s curls bopping, not quite in the pocket, across the stage – that Whitley Gilbert ran so Dani could fly. So, a special shout out to all my bubbly Black girls out there 😉 ✨ AND three cheers to the power team: Ashley Neumeister for the original song Marvin “Chanz” Parkman for producing the track Jamaica Craftfor wrangling our movement into the sweetest thing And our amazing crew who always make us look like 🌟”
Now let us know, what did you think of the performance of Tamara Tunie as Anita Dupree singing with her family? Was it nice to see Anita humanized for a change and not always so stoic? Share your thoughts via the comment section But first, check out our chat with Arielle Prepetit below. and below that, the musical number itself!

LIES!
B.T.G.’s is one of the TOP soaps on the air at times even beating General Hospital in the ratings.
To be clear, BTG ratings have gone down (below GH) in the past few weeks. That said, it’s still do respectable for a new series.
To be clear GH is higher in viewers than BYG but BYG is higher than GH in key demos, which is the most important thing!!!
JD Vance is visiting their set tomorrow!
This was by far the most entertaining any one daytime artist had this all week! I just love watching her.
From #AsTheWorldTurns as Jessica to Melinda Warner the Medical Examiner on #LawandOrderSVU and other notable shows and productions.
She never ceases to amaze me.
It was an incredible moment! Tamara Tunie has got IT!
I love this show already!

TUNE-IN: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Banneker Homecoming Episodes, EP Sheila Ducksworth Speaks on Impact HBCUs Have in Real Life

As previously reported, kicking off today, is a two-part Beyond the Gates, when The Duprees gather to celebrate Banneker University’s homecoming weekend.
The producers and writers are taking an opportunity to spotlight the rich traditions of the long-held tradition of attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through its fictional university.
The episodes are today on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Friday, October 2 and next week on Monday, October 5, where in true Beyond the Gates fashion, there will be some surprising drama that ensues when someone shows up!

BANNEKER REFLECTS THE IMPORTANCE OF HBCUS
Sheila Duckworth, (executive producer, Beyond the Gates) spoke to Soaps.com to give some insight on the decision for the series to illustrate the ties that bind with HBCUs.
“It was important that we have this school as almost a character on our canvas, right from the beginning. Beyond even education, HBCUs have been pivotal when it comes to everything from economic progression and fostering a sense of community to the development of leadership skills,” explained Ducksworth. “From the beginning, we wanted to illustrate that what the Duprees are able to do in the world was a direct reflection of the impact HBCU’s have in real life.”
EVERYTHING HAS ITS PURPOSE
The EP talked about how purposeful the elements that integrate Banneker into the overall story of Beyond the Gates are including: the Dupree family door knocker that is a lion, the mascot for the fictional university, plus, the upcoming fight song that the cast will sing together on the Monday, October 5 episode, and the painting the hangs at Fairmont Crest.
That portrait of Vernon Dupree’s (Clifton Davis) father, George Cheeks Dupree, that hangs prominently at the country club, was named after CBS executive George Cheeks (now Chairman of TV and Media, Paramount), and as Ducksworth says of the legacy of Vernon’s father, “He was the architect of Fairmont Crest.”
So, are you looking forward to these episodes honoring HBCU traditions with the Dupree and the Richardson clans? What surprises do you think might be in store come next week? Let us know via the comment section below.

‘Beyond the Gates’ Honors HBCU Tradition with Banneker University Homecoming Episodes

Beyond the Gates is set to air two upcoming episodes on Friday, October 2 and Monday, October 5 on CBS, which will feature the residents of Fairmont Crest gathering at the Dupree family home for a spirited tailgate ahead of Banneker’s Homecoming, decked out in the university’s signature crimson and gold.
The episodes celebrate African American heritage by showcasing the longstanding homecoming traditions of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) through the show’s fictional Banneker University.
With five generations of the Dupree family having attended Banneker, Homecoming is more than a celebration – it’s a cherished family legacy. For the Duprees and the Fairmont Crest community, it offers an opportunity to honor their shared history, celebrate their HBCU pride, and come together for a special day filled with family, friendship, and tradition.

It should be noted that both Beyond the Gates and General Hospital aired an encore presentation on Labor Day, September 7.

Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) went through a paranoid spiral noticed by Dani (Karla Mosley), while Heather Armstrong’s (Ashley Jones) behavior became increasingly unhinged, Deanna (Angela Fairley) reached a breaking point under mounting pressure and decided to return to school and Smitty (Mike Manning) was digging deeper into the death of Lia Whitmore.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
Over at B&B, the soap remained in second place behind sister soap, The Young and the Restless for the top spot in total viewers; although it should be noted they continued to close the gap for the race to #1. THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Once again, Y&R remained as the number one most-viewed broadcast television daytime drama of then all, clocking in with 3,059,000 tuning-in, but down -130,000 week-over-week, but still up + 159,000 year-over-year. Y&R also remained in the top spot for household ratings share and atop the key women’s 25-54 rating share.
