General Hospital
B&B’s Scott Clifton Opens Up On If A Return to ‘General Hospital’ and Reprising the Role of Dillon Quartermaine is Imminent
Soap fans first became acquainted with Scott Clifton when he played the quirky Dillon Quartermaine on ABC’s General Hospital. Clifton played the role from 2003-2007, before heading from Los Angeles to New York to take on the role of Schulyer Joplin on One Life to Live from 2009-2010.
Scott’s next stop was The Bold and the Beautiful and since 2010, he has been playing Liam Spencer for all he is worth and then some winning three Daytime Emmys along the way and becoming the first actor to win gold in the three main acting categories: Younger, Supporting and Lead.
Now, Clifton has embarked on his most dramatic and heavy storyline of his career, as on B&B, Liam just learned he has an inoperable mass on his brain and will eventually die. As Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) tried to have it sink in to Liam’s psyche on today’s, Wednesday, April 23rd episode of the CBS daytime drama series, Liam was deflecting and not believing this was his ultimate fate.

Since this story kicked-off, viewers have been wondering if this turn of events, which leaves Liam possibly dying and Clifton written off the show, if he would then be reprising his role of Dillon on GH! If he did, the Q’s would have another addition to their mansion. After all, Dillon is the son of Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) and Paul Hornsby (Paul Satterfield).
Speaking for the first time on his heartbreaking new B&B storyline, Clifton clarified to Soap Opera Digest, that a return to GH as Dillon Quartermaine is premature to even think about, adding, “I am not at all thinking about General Hospital or any other show. I’m just thinking about doing the best job I can do telling this story. That is what is important to me. I just want to do right by this show and this story and and this storyteller — namely, Brad (Bell, B&B EP and head writer).”

Photo: JPI
Viewers also believe that just like The Bold and the Beautiful did with Eric Forrester (John McCook) coming back from death’s door just in time for Christmas in 2023, that the show is planning on doing something similar with Liam. However, let’s not forget, the series did kill-off the matriarch of the Forrester clan, Stephanie Forrester, once Susan Flannery made the decision to exit the show.
However, with Clifton, he says he is not quite sure where the story is ultimately heading sharing, “To the fans, I would say, ‘Hey, man, we’re on this trip together! I’m right there with you. I don’t now exactly where this is going. I’m only like a couple weeks ahead (in terms of episodes he’s shot)!’ I also want the fans to know that whatever happens, this story is being told with such thoughtfulness and delicacy and generosity and love, from the top down. We all really, really care (about telling it right).”
So, what do you think will happen to Liam? Will the show kill-0ff the character? Do you want Scott Clifton to head back to General Hospital? Do you hope whatever happens, this storyline will be a tearjerker all the way through it? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
Liam is one of the most endearing characters on the show. I really don’t want him to ever leave the Bold and the Beautiful!
It was sad I would hate to see Liam, leave the show maybe get back with Hope again
They could write off Daphne I don’t care for her at all
Liam was really really great in that sence
At some point, GH will have to cover the death of Monica Quartermaine. Perhaps then will be a good time for Dillon to come home and offer support to his mother, Tracy.
He will exit and go back to GH either as Dillon or as Michael. I’m sure he knows if his contract is renewed or not but actors not allowed to talk about it.
He could do both shows like Wally Kurth does at GH and Days
Scott is under contract at B&B – abs would be under contract at GH if he went there. Can’t do both. Wally is recurring on both GH and DAYS.
Yes He can!
I’ll be 75 this July and have watched B&B since the beginning, seriously. Do Not write Liam out ..now is the perfect time for Liam & Hope to reunite. Keep writing nice family Entertainment..Stop Swapping these Ladies Around, And one more thing, Brooke belongs back with Ridge…
WOW!!! I couldn’t have said any better myself that’s exactly what I want as well. Plus my 55th birthday is also in July. I’m there with you Mrs. Frances McPhail.
He should be thinking about it; the moment Chad Duell exited as Michael on General Hospital, that should have opened the door to bring Dillon back in. It’s overdue at this point, and while I would think Robert Palmer Watkins would be the go-to, if Scott Clifton is going to be available, he should be given a second chance at the role.
RPW as Dillon is the Emme Rylan equivalent of Lulu. Neither measured up to their original portrayer. Dillon’s uniqueness is the quirkiness and comedic moments intermixed with the drama. Clifton excels at that.
Agree, and I would love for the Michael recast be Darin Brooks in a more serious persona which would be fun to watch the two “Spencer Brothers” playing off each other in opposite personalities. These two actors are really good together, and both have really good comedic timing and delivery. Should be interesting to see if Willow’s visit to Baden Baden, Germany results in a fully masked up though awake Michael, or if the bandages are off.
I would welcome Brooks as Dillon (should Clifton stick with B&B). Could be just as impactful as Alexa Havins is as Lulu.
I happened to like Watkins’ take on Dillon. Was it different? Yes. Did it work for the role? Yes.
If Liam is gonna have surgery, let it be a vasectomy.there is nothing endearing about him.all he’s ever done is bounce from one bed with hope to another with stephanie.both women need to respect themselves more.
I totally agree it’s time for him to leave anyway he’s really getting on my nerves he thinks he’s the best looking thing there is need to send Hope on her way
no its not time for Scott to leave
Funny how fans can’t just take Scott at his words… Scott shows great professionalism respecting his current job and not discussing anything beyond that.
I want him to come on general hospital if he is killed off of the bold and the beautiful.
Let him leave the soap…he’s boring at best
So true
Liam has very little potential for future storylines, as of current. With Wyatt MIA and Bill semi-MIA and who knows what is happening with Hope, and Steffi and Finn are going strong, though Jacqui will soon be on maternity leave (again), I’m guessing that Scott will be moving on (hoping GH) to make room for the return of Jack Wagner, thus Nick Maroni to once again triangulate with Brooke and Bridget and Ridge and Taylor (I guess that’s actually pentagulate???)
Well in my opinion believe he going to leave b&b for gh because b&b have give a great story for the character for Liam and I believe also that Scott may want to do something else and gh can give Scott a better story
First of all Susan Flannery and Ronn Moss both quit they did not renew their contracts. Second this storyline just changed the names from Eric to Liam except we really never knew what Eric was dying of. You can’t expect SC not to praise the writers they sign his paychecks .
There is no danger of Liam been written off the show, The writers will create a last minute miracle. B&B writing has been lack luster last few years.
They have a knack of repeating the same dialogue
repeating the same storylines
they need to do something to shake up the show a bit
Not saying that they should write Liam off but need to move the show and make some changes
And B and B is only a 30 minute Soap so 17ish minutes of airtime, with much of it being scenic views of various places in LA and lots and lots of replays of scenes from previous episodes in the past, so my guess is that they only film new footage about 13-15 minutes per episode at most with all of that editing.
Sure… let Dillon Quartermaine come back to Port Charles and take a job at ELQ. Even more reason to kick Hallmark Drew to the curb permanently.
I hope he stays on Bold and the Beautiful.
I’m for Dillon coming back to gh, & I’m really really sick of brooke- taylor-ridge triangle. It’s been ongoing for years. Let ridge & Taylor make it, & find Brooke a man or better yet neither one wants ridge, , bring in fresh men, for Taylor & Brooke, & another woman for ridge, ( get off that triangle). Also although Luna did what she did, (she is Sheila’s granddaughter). Should Finn make Steffy understand that’s his daughter, & really get to know her as his daughter and not his cousin. Only reason I’m still watching B&B is because the Liam storyline is great. Where are Sheila’s other kids. Shouldn’t they know they have a brother.[ Finn ]?Where is RJ? Why Bridget son haven’t been introduced, ( he is Brooke grandson) . I think B&B writing staff stinks. We need better storyline with old new actors, instead of the same boring storyline ( Brooke-Ridge-Taylor).
I hope they don’t kill off Liam He is a top actor on the show Please don’t get rid of him b and b
bring him back to hope and let him live
I love Scott as Liam please don’t send him back to play Dillon find a cure like you did for eric
let hope and Liam reunite

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
