Production is set to get underway when CBS Daytime’s newest soap opera, The Gates, will begin to tape its first episodes on November 4th. The series is set to debut on CBS in January 2025.

With The Gates on its way, it will mark the first new daytime soap opera to be launched in over 25 years. The show will be taped in studios in Atlanta, Georgia instead of Los Angeles where all four other remaining soap operas are produced and housed.

Casting is picking up with less than two months from the start of filming. So much is riding on the series to see if The Gates can make it out of the ‘gate’ and become a ratings winner. The series is the first joined venture from the NAACP, P&G Studios and CBS Studios. It has been previously revealed that Bob Guza and Julie Hanan Carruthers will be two of the series EP’s, from the series created by Michele Val Jean. The other EP’s include: Val Jean, Sheila Duckworth, Kimberly Doebereiner, Leon T. Russell and Derrick Johnson.

TV Insider reports that the series is actively casting six roles; looking for the right actors to play the part. As previously reported, The Gates centers around a wealthy Black family who live in an upscale gated community and the drama starts from there.

Allison – is described as Black, female and in her mid- to late 20s. She’s the miracle baby that Jessica and Sam never thought they’d have. Not surprisingly, Allison has been indulged all her life. She’s spoiled, as a result. She can be dismissive towards those she considers beneath her. Confident and secure, Allison doesn’t like sharing. However, all that may change in the near future…

Armand – is a Black male in his mid-30s. He works as a freelance photographer. Tragically, he lost both of his parents in a plane crash about a decade ago and then, he inherited his parents’ fortunes. Armand is philanthropic and is close to his uncle Sam (on his father’s side) and Jessica. They stepped up when his parents passed away, and Armand depends on their support and words of wisdom. Charming, worldly, and sophisticated, Armand loves women. He’s a fabulous dancer. However, there’s something elusive about Armand that makes some question his intentions.

Cheryl – is a Black female in her early 20s. She has been a successful fashion model since she was 18 even though she’s been reluctant to work in that field. Cheryl has been tasked with recreating the world that her mother, Sara, gave up. While modeling may not be her desire in life, Cheryl has made a good deal of money. She has a dream to design a line of purses, building her brand in the process, and eventually design a chic but affordable clothing line. Cheryl’s no stranger to coke, which she considers to be the perfect drug. Cheryl, however, can put it down whenever she wants.

Rick – is a white male in his mid-30s. He grew up down the street from a fire station. Rick’s fascination with the men who work as firemen only grew when one of the men there took Rick under his wing and schooled him. Rick is fearless, but his captain wishes he’d show more caution. Described as “sexy as hell,” Rick should have no problem fulfilling his dreams of being married, having kids, and working till retirement.

David – is a Black male in his 30s. He comes from a family of law enforcement. David adheres to the vow he made to “serve and protect.” That’s why he’s morally offended when a rogue group of cops and slick lawyers like Joseph step outside the law either legally or ethically. Diligent and detail-oriented, David may get a bit too personally invested in his cases – especially when minors are involved. David’s not only proud of his wife but also of the family he comes from.

Katie – is described as a white female in her mid-30s. She’s an adult now but Katie was the only child of a young single mother. Katie’s never been afraid of rolling up her sleeves. Her temperament makes her a natural as a caring nurse. She’s brisk and efficient as well as quick on her feet. Katie’s desire to help others is genuine.

Debbi Morgan is on everyone’s wish list.

Armand sounds perfect for Gavin Houston !

Nick Barotta from the Oval for Rick

Loretta Lot as Alison and Redaric Williams as Armand. Both were cut unnecessarily by the fine folks at Y n R once writers changed etc. Both have a following and fit the descriptions

Lord, yes. Redaric Williams for anything and you mean Loren Lott, who played Devon’s sister; she would be amazing.

Yes, lol, Loren Lott. She was so badly ditched by Griffith when he took over. She was so beautiful and natural as Ana. I thought Redaric and Crystels Lily could ve really been hot together too. CBS pretty much owes them a role after how badly they were written out last time.

Need some grown folks too! With names like Vivian, Joan, Veronica, Blake, Richard, Robert.

OMG, now you’re naming the characters?

Ashley Jones is the newest addition of CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates.  The veteran soap actress has posted some teasey Instagran stories revealing the intel; especially her latest wearing a Beyond the Gates emblazoned robe while in her dressing room.

As to who Jones is playing that is still hush-hush. Ashley follows other former daytime notables to Fairmont Crest which have included Greg Vaughan (ex-DAYS, Y&R, GH) and Jordi Vilasuso (ex-Y&R, AMC, DAYS and GL).

A spokesperson for Beyond the Gates confirmed the news to Soap Opera Digest expressing, “We can confirm Ashley Jones will be appearing in Beyond the Gates.” It should be noted: Beyond the Gates does tape four months ahead of air.

Soap fans first met Ashley when she played Megan Dennison on The Young and the Restless (1997-2000). She then went on to The Bold and the Beautiful to play Bridget Forrester in her initial run from 2004-2010 and since then making recurring appearances throughout the next 15 years. In addition, Jones appeared on General Hospital in the role of Parker Forsyth from 2016-17.

Earlier this week, Beyond the Gates was renewed for two more consecutive seasons its 3 and 4th by CBS, giving the youngest soap on the air, a big confidence boost. The series debuted back on February 24, 2025 as the first hour-long Black-led soap opera, and which tapes in Atlanta, Georgia instead of Los Angeles, California.

CBS Renews ‘Beyond the Gates’ for Seasons 3 and 4

Congratulations are in order for daytime’s newest drama series, Beyond the Gates. Today on April 15, the soap opera was officially renewed by CBS for two more seasons, its 3 and 4th.

The network revealed the renewal pick-up at a press briefing led by CBS Entertainment President, Amy Reisenbach. That show of faith takes the soap through the 2027-2028 television and streaming season, while the soap currently continues to air its second season.

Beyond the Gates creator, head writer and executive producer, Michele Val Jean took to X following the news of the pick-up and expressed her gratitude, sharing, “So this happened. Thank you to everyone involved, from the network to the crew, for the support, belief, hard work and dedication everyone has poured into this show. Beyond grateful.”

While Deadline was the first to break the news of the young soap opera’s latest accomplishment, Val Jean clarified that Tracey Thomson who is listed at the bottom of the article as one of the series executive producers along with Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey, is more than that.

Val Jean explained Thomson’s full involvement with Beyond the Gates, noting, “A credit egregiously missing on this article is Tracey Thomson’s. She’s been by my side cranking out these shows since episode 150. We just did 400. She’s my partner, my co-head writer and an executive producer and she deserves all the credit.”

Beyond the Gates is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, DC, in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.

The cast is led by the Duprees played by Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Karla Mosley, and Daphnee Duplaix along with Brandon Claybon, Mike Manning, Trisha Mann-Grant, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Nixon, Arielle Prepetit, Sean Freeman, Timon Kyle Durrett, RhonniRose Mantilla, Keith D. Robinson. Jon Lindstrom, and more round out the cast.

So, excited to hear Beyond the Gates is keeping on keepin’ on with two more seasons coming your way after the completion of its current season? Let us know via the comment section. But first, check out our recent conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel with series stars Tamara Tunie, Sean Freeman, Clifton Davis and EP Sheila Ducksworth via the comment section below .
