Great news for the soaps at CBS Daytime!  The Network’s two daytime dramas, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful posted year-to-year growth, and double-digits in key women demographics, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending October 12th as noted in a press release from CBS

The Young and the Restless was up +5% in viewers (4.74m from 4.52m), +12% in women 25-54 (1.9/13 from 1.7/11) and +18% in women 18-49 (1.3/09 from 1.1/08) compared to the same week last year.

The remainder of the CBS Daytime line-up comprised of The Talk, The Price is Right and Let’s Make A Deal all saw gains in total viewers for the ratings week as well, as well as key demos.

I feel the writing lately on Y&R is terrible. So dragged out, the new Adam it’s been well over a year.

Cool..CBS rules in the ratings..I am sure is all about 18-49, and there is when ABC gets more ratings.

I am not sure about that, Omar. Recent news reports have come out about how The Nielson ratings have been somewhat unreliable and erroneous. I read that they erroneously made it look like GH had higher ratings in that demographic than it really did. In any case, I don’t look at the soaps as competing with each other. Rather, they are competing against other afternoon programming genres such as talk shows, cooking shows and game shows. Any rise in ratings for any soap is good news for the soap opera ratings genre period and will help sustain their existence. So,… Read more »

Thanks for that update, I did not know Harry..AND yes any gain on any of the 4 soaps is good news for the genre…There is still so many displaced soap viewers out there that stop watching daytime soaps after their soaps got cancelled..If those fans tune in to one or more of the remaining 4, ratings for genre will rise some more!! I just wish the networks will work hard at trying to lure young viewers via advertising and promotions..We need a new generation of viewers, once we all drop dead, LOL.

Great news Young and The Restless is on fire now, The ratings really prove that. I love Gina Tagnoni as the new Phyllis. Gina is a terrific actress, I am so happy Gina is back in daytime, where she belongs.

Agreed–Y&R is hitting it out of the ball park these days. Not a fast forward moment to be found. Even the Winters’ family is interesting.

Neil being blind has turned him into an acting champ! Shame on Devon! Cane, how can he stand by and watch this going on? Neil will eventually regain his eye sight and he will see things that will confirm his suspicions! I see him keeping his recovery a secret until he gets Devon and Hillary right where he wants them. I cannot believe the Winters family is actually entertaining again!

Bah ha ha! And, Mark? I adore Peter Bergman but he and Kelly (love Cady too) are rather somnolent inducing together.
jack looks like a deer stuck in the cross lights while Phyllis rapidly and intensely interrogates him about what has been going on for the last year.

This is good news for the cbs soaps. Y&R was great last week with the Shick wedding and the return of Phyllis.

I love Y&R…and, I love Gina Tognoni…not with Jack, though…ugh!!!!!!
And, as much as I lavish my admiration on Gina, I hope I will stop comparing her to Michelle…it isn’t fair to Ms Tognoni. I chide myself because Gina is an outstanding protagonist.

On B&B I’m loving the sexy Caroline/Ridge storyline. It’s what soaps are all about. Two gorgeous people working together, fighting their feelings, while Ridge goes for broke to win the CEO position and Maya schemes to break up Rick and Caroline. Fans like me must be tuning in to see them because this is one of B&B top stories. Go B&B!

Great news. She is a good actress and still looks great! I can see her connected to Madeline. She actually looks like a younger sister of Donna Mills.

Can someone explain to me as we rejoice over Y&R’s ratings why Nikki made a deal to meet with Ian as long as he agreed to testify that Dylan didnt kill him. What the? I mean Paul heard Nikki talking to Ian and Paul is the Chief. What more does he need to release Dylan. Ian is alive! Why is Dylan still in jail? What did I miss?

I wish I could answer you, but I only watch Days of our Lives on NBC!!!

Paul knew Ian wasn’t dead and was setting Dylan up for his murder but he needed proof of this. So a plan was devised that Nikki would put an ad in the newspaper asking Ian to contact her. If he did, they would use Nikki as bait to entrap Ian, which would prove Dylan didn’t kill him, but also so they could arrest Ian for kidnapping Mariah. When Ian contacted Nikki she had to give the impression her reason for wanting to meet with him was for Dylan’s sake. They had to give Ian the impression his plan to frame… Read more »

OLTL Favorite Susan Batten to Guest-Star on General Hospital

A very familiar face to the town of Llanview and the beloved One Life to Live, will be appearing on your screens this week on General Hospital.

Susan Batten (Ex-Luna Moody, OLTL) will make a few guest appearances in scenes with Sasha played by Sofia Mattsson.

According to the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstand now, Batten will play the role of home shopping-star Flora Gardens!

Batten former boss, Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) called Susan and said about the role: , “Okay, there’s this character named Flora Gardens.”  To which Susan responded, “Does she have teeth?”   After the two shared a laugh, Susan said “yes’ to the role.

OLTL fans will remember Luna’s torrid relationship with Max Holden (James DePaiva).

The actress/writer/producer reported that she was a ‘still very nervous’ acting on soap again (she last appeared on One Life in 2012), but said once she got into the rhythm of the shooting and delivering the lines it was all good.

So, looking forward to seeing Susan on GH? Comment below. But first, take a moment to stroll down memory lane in this clip from OLTL, when Max proposes to Luna.

Peter Bergman Signs 5-Year Deal with The Young and the Restless

Some of the hottest news on Daytime Emmy night was the reveal that 23-time Daytime Emmy nominee, and 3-time Emmy-winner, Peter Bergman is staying put at The Young and the Restless for quite some time to come, in fact, at least five more years.

Bergman, who plays Genoa City staple, Jack Abbott, has inked a new five-year deal to stay with the CBS daytime drama series, which is a significant contract in the world of soaps.  The usual contact for actors is somewhere between one and four years, with thirteen-week or twenty-six-week cycle, if the show were to not pick up an actors option.

While Y&R has been renewed thus far through the 2024 TV season, it would seem this move to ensure Bergman is sticking around as the show moves past its 50th year on the air, is a vote of confidence by Sony Pictures Television and CBS that the top-rated daytime drama will live on.

Deadline first reported the contract news.  Peter joined Y&R back in 1989, after first successful soap foray on All My Children as Dr, Cliff Warner.

So, what do you think about Peter signing on for five more years at Y&R? Comment below.
