On Wednesday’s episode of The Young and the Restless, the top-rated soap opera finally dealt with one of the elephants in the room. What to do about Christine (Lauralee Bell) and Paul’s marriage, when the character of Paul and his longtime portrayer, Doug Davidson are no longer with the show.

Viewers learned in key scenes between Danny (Michael Damian) and Christine that her marriage to Paul has fallen apart, for good. Christine had gone to Portugal to meet Paul and attempt to salvage their marriage.

She tells Danny the two has been going through some problems, but none of which she thought were insurmountable. When Paul retired, things took a turn. Together for the first time in a long time, Christine shared that when Paul reached out to her to come to Portugal she looked at it as a positive sign.

An emotional Christine said that the two talked and talked and tried to figure out if there was any hope for their marriage. In the end, Christine had to admit to Danny that Paul was pulling away from her and that he’s just not in love with her anymore. When Danny questions her that there is really no hope, she shares there is no way back for them, expressing, “We just don’t work together anymore. We both saw it so clearly. ”

Danny asks what comes next for her? She says she will figure it out and he says he knows she will.  With Paul out of the picture, this frees up Christine to revisit her relationship and past love for Danny,  After all, the two had been married before back in 1990.  The marriage fell apart due to Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Thus, setting the stage for this potential triangle to reignite in 2023.

Next week on November 2nd, with Christine at the crossroads, Y&R is set to dedicate a special episode on her journey, which also serves to mark Lauralee’s 40th anniversary with the series.

Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue, Bell shared on the standalone episode, “This one is tinged with a little sadness because Paul and Christine have mutually decided to divorce, so it’s taken time for Christine to adjust to where she is now. When people get to a certain age, they are wondering, ‘Should I have tried that?’ She’s not unhappy, she’s trying to figure out what direction her life should take, and it’s a roller coaster of emotions.”

While the episode will feature very specific flashbacks, it will also feature the return of Christine’s best friend, Nina Webster (Tricia Cast). Bell shared “It makes sense that she would come at this point because Nina is the one person Christine will listen to.”

Will Y&R bring us Christine and Danny 2.0? Would you like to see them rekindle their love? How do you feel Y&R wrote the exit of Paul Williams to free up Christine in this next phase of her life? Let us know in the comment section below.

I’m very excited to see Lauralee’s Anniversary that will show past clips! I’ve been there since day 1. I’m most excited about Danny and Cricket reuniting once for all. It would bring their story full circle. I didn’t agree with Paul falling out of love. They could’ve left it with they just don’t work anymore. Reunite the Romalotti’s.

Second that!
Danny and Cricket were the first y n r couple I really rooted back when I was old enough to become invested! Can’t wait to revisit all the history and especially liking Phyllis out of the tired Diane Tucker crap.
Happy also to see Nina, hope she has scenes with Chance and I think it’s also time since Danny and Daniel are reunited to bring back Gina like Esther. She could be the manager at the GCAC. The show needs some heart now that Mamies back too

It’s extremely frustrating what Y&R has done with Paul. So much disrespect shown towards Doug Davidson, who’s been part of the show for 40 years. And for what? There’s no logical reason why Paul shouldn’t be a core part of the show. The explanation for why he and Christine are breaking up was lazy and forced, and so implausible considering all of the “problems” they supposedly went through happened OFF screen. A complete waste of storyline potential, and such a shame for longtime viewers.

Agreed!

I agree with Jimmy, lazy writing and makes no sense for this couple. I could care less whether Christine and Danny get together or not, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them ride off into the sunset never to be seen in GC again. Never liked Christine and no need for Danny to be in GC really. I certainly do not want to see any involvement of Phyllis – my girl deserves better.

Phyllis and Danny????? No chemistry what so ever!!!!

After everything she did to ruin his life, if he doesn’t know better after all these years, he’s a glutton for punishment.

They still have so much chemistry it’s so nice to see them and can’t wait to throw Phyllis in the mix! And can’t wait to see Nina! If they were smart they would make Nina a bitch again and put her up against Jill it would be fabulous!!!!!

I remember Cricket when she first appeared on the program. Knew she was related to one of the producers or something, but she appeared very comfortably into her role. When seeing her recently with Danny it felt so natural. She, although not seen for quite a while, was delightful and it felt real. I always was fond of Paul and heard through the grapevine it was politics that took him away. We are so divided in this nation maybe it would be a nice gesture to bring him back. Think he saved Nikki (spell) from some kind of cult. I enjoy seeing the people who were around years ago; some not for so long. This Mamy (spell) thing is wrong, in my opinion.

I happen to like Danny and Cricket together. They were so in love years ago when the red- headed bitch came a spoiled everything. I don’t know how Danny can even stand looking at her after the way she ruined their lives, had Daniel and just proceeded to ruin his, right after he was born and through his whoe life. She destroys everything she touches.

I hate it…no more Danny & Christine! Bring Paul back!

Somewhere, somehow Doug/Paul got the shaft. We will probably never know the whole truth but he was great as Paul and a darnn good actor, I’ll miss him. Why couldn’t they have dumped Phyllis, that witch makes me sick to my stomach, especially when she smiles, yuk!

DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Marlena Looks Back at 50 Years in Salem

Published

The June 22 episode of Days of Our Lives reminded us all of why Deidre Hall is iconic in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans. Here we are 50 years later, and Marlena is still the heroine of the long-running soap opera, and Deidre remains one of the most most recognizable names in the history of soaps.

To pay tribute, and to look back at the life and times of Marlena, the story starts with Marlena flipping through a photo album of her with John (the late Drake Hogestyn) over the years. As she misses him dearly, she gets a knock on the door and its none other than John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).

With Andrew (Colton Little) in Salem working on a case, he sits down with Marlena, who says she can’t believe its been fifty years since she first arrived in Salem! Cue: Deidre’s first scenes on DAYS when she finds Mickey Horton (the late John Clarke) playing chess against himself inside the mental institution she worked.

THE FLASHBACKS OF MARLENA’S LIFE

From there, viewers definitely got the cliff notes version of the history of Marlena and entrenched within them, some of the biggest moments in Deidre’s enduring run.

Paul thinks he is looking at 70s, and early 80s Marlena while going through her scrapbook, but he is actually looking at her twin, Samantha (Andrea Hall)Cue: when Marlena confronted Samantha about impersonating her, and then later getting a call on her radio show from the Salem Strangler (Jack Coleman as Jake Kostichek) who killed Samantha thinking it was Marlena.

In the present, Belle (Martha Madison) has arrived at this time to meet up with Paul, unaware of this trip down memory lane. She wants to go over the findings in the chess board mystery Stefano willed to Marlena and John, in private with him, since Marlena previously said she wanted nothing to do with it.

Back to the history lesson, Marlena speaks highly of Don Craig and even though their marriage didn’t work out, she could find a path forward with the new love her life, Roman Brady. (Wayne Northrop however is never shown, possibly to keep the story focused on John as Roman for confusion sakes?)

Paul sees a photo of a young Carrie (Christie Clark) in the album and Marlena says she was such a godsend after losing her baby. In fact, Marlena says caring for Carrie prepared her for her having and raising her own twins, Eric and Sami. Cue: The twin visiting Marlena in the hospital.

JOHN AND MARLENA’S LOVE CONQUERED ALL

Then, in a way to get through and incorporate the wild storylines only Marlena could have been in, she tells Belle and Paul, she has been through so much in her life, how lucky she was to find John, and some of the most unbelievable experiences no one could imagine. Cue: Marlena possessed by the devil and levitating from the bed. Next, John confronting Marlena being the Salem Stalker, where she admits she killed Alice Horton, pretends she needs help, then pulls a gun on her beloved John!

The comment is made by Paul and Marlena, that she literally has been to hell and back and she could not have survived were it not for her beloved John. Cue the big emotional highpoint clips; The Pier Scene! Marlena steps out of the fog when John sees her from a distance. After believing she was dead for four years, here she was before him in one of the greatest reunions in a soap opera love story in history. What followed were other times of the life of times of Jarlena.

MARLENA’S ‘GIFT’ FROM STEFANO HAS A NEW CLUE

When Marlena makes a brief exit to the other room, Belle fills in Paul on the chess set Stefano left her mother and the photo of the Lire. Paul said he will investigate. Marlena comes back into the room and overhears, and says to promise her if things get dangerous he will back off, she does not want anyone hurt by Stefano’s games.

As the episode comes to a conclusion, it’s just Belle and Marlena going through the photo album giggling about 70s hairstyles and all the memories. Belle speaks on the impact Marlena has had in everyone’s lives, and that she is both the heart of their family and the heart of Salem.

An end card comes up acknowledging Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary as Marlena, and we fade to black.

So, what did you think of Marlena’s walk down memory lane? Were you happy to see the flashback clips utilized throughout? Were you touched by the scenes and the performance of Deidre Hall? Let us know what you thought of Deidre’s 50th anniversary episode via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sidwell Surfaces; A Twist in Britt’s Condition

Published

On the Thursday, June 18 episode of General Hospital, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) makes his shocking return right in Port Charles, after fleeing (thanks to Cassius) to supposedly parts unknown to escape capture for trying to kill Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis).

How does he show up in town? First, Ezra (Daniel Cosgrove) gets a text from Jacinda (Paige Herschell) to meet in his hotel room. Ezra thinks the two are going to have a sexcapade so he puts champagne on ice for his favorite escort.

Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. Ezra’s excitement turns towards fear as instead of Jacinda, Sidwell is standing in front of him. Next, Sidwell blackmails Boyle telling him he has plenty of leverage he can use against him. Sidwell wants to use Ezra to help him takedown, Sonny (Maurice Benard), Lucas, Laura (Genie Francis) and Cullum.

ARE SIDWELL’S DAYS NUMBERED?

Meanwhile, Sonny confides in his brother, Ric (Rick Hearst). He says he knows who killed Marco an he is going to use that intel to lure Sidwell out of hiding.  Sonny also shares he is going to kill Sidwell, and handle this by himself. He gave the PCPD a chance, but they failed to nab Sidwell for good and lock him up.

Sonny also has been tracking the whereabouts of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Rocco (Finn Carr) through Brick, and learned they took a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then boarded a fairy to take them somewhere off the island.

BRITT’S ‘SYMPTOMS’ RETURN

Turns out, Britt and Rocco are hiding out in the British Virgin Islands. Britt set up Rocco with a burner phone and a VPN on her tablet, that is not traceable. Rocco reads on the tablet about Lucas’ shooting. Britt starts to have the shakes and passes out. When she comes to, Britt won’t let Rocco call a doctor, but he uses his phone to step on the balcony and call Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and ask for help. Charlotte looks shocked to hear from her brother as Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) looks on!

However, Joe (Jonathan Bennett) could be the one to put two and two together! While at General Hospital and after questioning Lucas about a syringe he found that was in someone’s possession. the toxicology report showed traces of saline solution, not actual medication. He asks Dr. Jones, why someone would inject themselves with saline? Lucas responds saline is harmless and would have no effect on someone.

So, does this mean that this entire time, Britt has been led to believe that the medication she was taking to treat her Huntington’s disease was placebo? Has Britt been lied to into believing she is dying? Is something else wrong with her instead?

Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below, and if you are ready for Sidwell to finally get his comeuppance from Sonny! But first, watch the scenes where Sidwell comes out of hiding and blackmails Ezra Boyle.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante and ‘Nathan’ Have It Out, Valentin and Carly Share Passionate Moments Which May Be Their Last

Published

on

By

On the June 16 episode of General Hospital, the PCPD under acting police commissioner Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) is in a bit of mess and does not go unnoticed by ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor).

First, there is the whole Chase (Josh Swickard) defending Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) over Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), who he arrested for allegedly tossing Willow in the waters next to the Quartermaine boathouse. Turner has had it with Chase’s good guy act and how he tampered with evidence in her case against Willow for shooting Drew.

Later, Dante and Justine question “Nathan” (Ryan Paevey) about Sidwell’s escape while in his custody. Turner is not buying his cover story that he was ambushed by Sidwell and his men. Once “Nathan” left the interrogation room, Turner went in on Dante about having “Nathan” on the force after seven years away, and Chase she views as a “dirty cop.”

However, Dante defends both of his officers, but Justine warned that “Nathan” and Chase’s behavior would reflect poorly on Dante as commissioner and she should really think about that. Later, Dante has a terse confrontation with “Nathan” on how he botched a prison transport and that he better watch his back as Justine is one step away from turning this over to Internal Affairs.

COP MADNESS

Next, “Nathan” apologizes for the way he handled the situation with Rocco and says he feels badly. But then in the twist, Dante said that he was grateful that “Nathan” had been there for his son in his time of need (referencing after Rocco shot Cullum and covered it up).

Then, there’s the newest police officer in the precinct, Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett). He may actually be on to “Nathan’s” double life when he questions him about a syringe found in Britt’s room at Bobbie’s. “Nathan” made up a story to counter Joe’s, that he was not aware that his sister was taking anything for her Huntington’s disease diagnosis. Joe called the forensic department lab wanting to know what drug was exactly in the syringe.

BEFORE YOU GO

At Carly’s (Laura Wright), Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) tells her that he must travel to Geneva to speak to the head of the WSB, named Z. Valentin feels it’s the only way to save Josslyn if he informs Z about Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) being a double agent. Valentin shares with Carly that he has to stop Cullum from bringing his dangerous cold fusion device online. Carly is beside herself. She doesn’t want Valentin to sacrifice himself by turning himself into the organization who has made him a fugitive in the first place. Valentin stands firm that he must meet Z in person.

Knowing that revealing himself to the WSB meant he was likely going back to prison, Valentin asked Carly if she’d get in touch with his daughter, Charlotte so he could say good-bye to her. Next, Carly and Valentin make their way to the bedroom to make love, which may be for the very last time, if Valentin is caught and put back in Steinmauer Maximum Security Prison.

CAUGHT BY CULLUM

At the same time while at Wydemere, Cullum is talking with one of his WSB operatives. Now, he is pondering if Valentin and Sidwell were working together all along.  Next, Cullum entertains the idea of involving the FBI to locate Britt and Rocco. He says he plans to kill them both once he knows of their whereabouts. Cullum sees the only other threat to the completion of the cold fusion project to be Anna Devane.

Cullum wants to track the location of the unidentified person who called the private clinic in France trying to get in touch with Anna, while pretending to be Kevin Collins. When the agent came back with a report, he says it emanated from a cell tower near Shoreline Road. It’s in the that moment that a light bulb goes on for Cullum! Valentin is in Port Charles and hiding at Carly’s!

So, what do you think of the PCPD cops, Chase, Joe and “Nathan?” Who should Dante fire? Do you think Valentin will go the run?Are you digging Carly and Valentin’s relationship and want it to continue, especially with Finola Hughes on her way back as Anna next month on-screen? Weigh-in via the comment section, and in case you missed it, you can check out our latest interview with Dominic Zamprogna below from his appearance on the Michael Fairman Channel, where he talks the PCPD cops, Rocco on the run, and more.
