The Young and the Restless’ Michael Mealor Says of Summer/Kyle/Claire Storyline, “It’s Going to Get Nasty”

On CBS Daytime’s The Young and the Restless, Kyle (Michael Mealor) seems to be spending more time with Claire (Hayley Erin) much to the chagrin of Summer (Allison Lanier). All this has gone down since little Harrison was held captive along with Claire by Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and rhe

While Summer has told her concerns over and over to Kyle, that she doesn’t like Claire getting so close to the little boy, Kyle seems to be somewhat smitten with Claire, or is he?

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Michael Mealor on the red carpet at last week’s 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards to get his thoughts on this possible love triangle, where in reality, everybody might be running a con on the other.

Mealor revealed that coming up on Y&R between Summer, Claire and Kyle that, “It’s going to get nasty. I gotta say that. No one trusts anyone, which makes good TV.”

To that end, it looks like no one in the Abbott family trusts Kyle either, to which Mealor replied, “Jack (Peter Bergman) doesn’t trust Kyle. Summer doesn’t trust Kyle. Diane (Susan Walters) doesn’t trust Kyle. Claire may be the only one, and I (may) have her fooled.”

Fans have been speculating that Claire isn’t the now “good’ girl she seems to be and that her psychotic tendencies may take over. Mealor says, “That’s a testament to Hayley (Erin) and how amazing she is because she plays this lovable character, but you just kind of go, something may be off here.”

Recently, Y&R aired the two-person episode featuring Kyle’s on-screen dad, Peter Bergman and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) where Jack tries to get Nikki to stop her bender and sober up, but ultimately loses his own sobriety and almost loses his life. Mealor shared he saw the unbelievable performances when it was being filmed.

Michael expressed, “God, that’s such a fantastic episode. They showed up for that and they filmed that over two days –  split the episode in half. I was there on set shooting other scenes, but just watching them pour it out on the monitor. It was incredible.”

Watch our red carpet conversation with Michael Mealor below.

Now weigh-in; Do you think Claire will ultimately take to underhanded tactics to get Kyle and Harrison in her clutches and away from Summer? Let us know your theories via the comment section.

I still think Claire is a psychopath. Y and R due a new young one lol

Are Y&R reading the comments on people. It’s the same characters with the most airtime and screen time. It’s how I feel with Summer and Kyle last year by the drama with Phyllis & Diane. That were boring as a couple, and not as a couple. Now with the kidnapping storyline, and then a storyline with Claire that people aren’t thrilled with. More airtime,
more pushes. No no no triangles with them. Summer should focus on Chance completely, instead of sidelining him without a story. I see they have huge fans! Love Lauren and Michael. Put Kyle in a different road of story with other characters. Why drag Summer all the time. I’m sorry, so irritated. Many characters like Noah, Allie, Jeremy, and Ashland were wasted already. Sharon, Tessa, Abby, Mariah, Lauren, Michael are left with no stories to tell. Elena is gone. Only seeing Connor and Harrison as the focus on main. Soon we see Johnny, Faith, and Katie but for how long? What about more with them, Reed and the children of Lily back.

Oh, I read that Vicki’s kids are returning and will not like Claire, the jealousy thing I guess. Just what we need, more kids.

Yeah I read it too agreed, more kids, but I have doubts knowing Griffith about staying. Hopefully, they keep them.

About Claire: I don’t like what she did, but she doesn’t know her family history based on crimes, too. We all shouldn’t forget the Newman’s weren’t sweet and sugar. Always bad happens and something need to be done to cover up. Like Harrison after kidnapping, Claire was a victim under Jordan’s claws too. With Jordan’s case, it’s linked to the family. What Kyle needs is growth, and raising his son on his own without having Harrison many mothers, Newman involvements, love interests, nanny, custody paper and battles with discussions. I just came to the conclusion with that I like it that way. A good emmy material for Michael Mealor with that.

Here is a young woman who grow up unloved and raised ɓy a psychopath. She has no self esteem or social skills and should be in intense therapy. She is a prime candidate for exploitation by a friend. The show needs a male villain to sweep Claire off her feet for her family’s money.

Sorry, don’t agree. She’s had enough crap in her life and enough done to her, just by her crazy aunt alone. I say, let her enjoy her new found life, certainly not what you are describing.

It can get nasty all it wants but I’m sorry Kyle and Claire have no chemistry whatsoever so what are we getting The hand that rocks the cradle no thanks

I’m not saying that Claire should be with Kyle,I’ve never liked his cocky, self-centeredness and now maybe he’ll get put in his place by Victor.

Wow, that EP sure has the actors out their selling his schlock. The proof was in the Emmy Awards…how many did Y&R walk away with??? Two? Both for acting. Nothing for the behind the scenes work, nothing for production. And in some categories they didn’t even pick up a nomination in a 4 horse field. Y&R has hit rock bottom where it counts. Heck, even on this website, there are no stories about Y&R, while news at GH, B&B and Days still dominates. The show is on neutral. There needs to be a big change while they can still afford it. Love to see Y&R dominate again.

Kyle is apparently falling right into Victor’s clutches with his not so subtle way of getting him away from Jabot and over to Newman. Maybe Kyle and Diane will appreciate each other more when he’s gone.

Someone needs to lock Victor in a cell! Maybe Claire’s Aunt will escape and give him a taste of his own medicine.

Lew, Trust me!

They need to cool down with Summer and Kyle’s airtime/scenes. Both are boring, but Kyle need to stand up more with spine, instead letting Summer control demands on Harrison because she doesn’t like Claire. It’s annoying when you try to enjoy other characters. I hope it comes out what Victor did. What are your imput on Connor’s storyline?

Hi Stella, I don’t really know about the Connor storyline. He is rarely on, and I am not sure if this is a story for him or to push Adam and Chelsea together again. Which may push Sally to.Nick (UGH!)

Hi Lew,

Agreed on Connor’s screen time, and I don’t want Sally & Nick to reunite either. That was horrible. I’m not too impressed with Connor’s SL.

Happy Michael Mealor is getting a love story!
He’s wasted on all these forced workplace plots.
Not sure about him and Claire but atleast it will bring him and Summer maybe back together by the end. I hope Chance also gets some airtime with Summer on this one too. He’s been m.i.a it seems recently

Kyle needs a good woman, not Summer who is such a conceited, spoiled brat.

Damian,

What bothers now that it’s the same stuff over and over again with Summer and Kyle. Alison Lanier nor Michael Mealor were never given other heavy materials with other actress and actors that they both can act with. Summer with Chance, her carrying a baby of his with difficult complications the baby survives on the end, fighting for Chancellors business and more SL with her family. Kyle with someone else, SL with his family, or determined to raise Harrison on his own. That are potential Emmy to summit, and if they’re going to summit an Emmy Awards based on the same where AL And MM didn’t stand out enough for me because this is the only performance they have. That really will disappoint me as a huge fan, and viewer. I want to see more than this.

I wonder why no one in the community hit the pain point because this is the storyline they came up with.

Nothing wrong with trying to get characters on front but problem is Claire was born in the nineties and summer and Kyle 2,000 if you are going to go back in history you need to get it straight . Peck was great back then but he has aged just like we all do . Absolutely no chemistry at all between he and AH . And let’s just put Victor and Jack on hold neither one has chemistry anymore with anyone if you want to write case out so do it I dare you.

Tell’em Kay!

Guess they will be giving Sharon Case some new/old material, with her, going off the deep end again. Was hoping they would write some new material for her, meeting someone new, thriving in her new business and family, not going back down the Rabbit Hole, maybe out to make Daniel pay for what she thinks was his fault for Kassie’s death. Those of us that watched that horrible SL, know it wasn’t Daniel’s fault for the accident, it was Kassie herself, who insisted on driving when she’d been drinking herself. Not looking forward to being put through all that again.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
