Casting news from The Young and the Restless!  The number one daytime drama series is apparently on the hunt for four performers to fill four upcoming roles, and two out of them are definitely on contract.

According to Soap Opera Digest, the following parts are being added to the canvas.  First, a handsome African-American man between the ages of 30 and 40 to play Don.

Next, a 20-something to play the contract role of Claire, who is described as “fierce, clever, unapologetically ambitious, and possesses a keen intuition that drives getting what, and who, she wants.”  In addition, the show is looking for an actor mid-20’s/early 30’s for the role of Caleb, who is said to be “dashing, handsome and sophisticated, smart, ambitious and has a rebellious streak. The role is also contract.

Finally, look for Y&R to beef up it’s teen scene with the character of f Ella, noted in the casting breakdown as a “lovely, poised, spunky” girl.

OK now its time for you to put your casting director hats on and let us know, who you would suggest could play these parts from daytime or prtimetime television, that you would like to see in Genoa City? Share your casting choices in the comment section below!

Frankly, I get a kick out of these character descriptions. They all seem to mirror each other:
—Two are “ambitious.”
—Three have similar elements: “fierce,” “rebellious,” and “spunky.”
—And, oh, what a surprise: both men must be “handsome.” I think it’s safe to say that soaps rarely, if ever, seek out those who perceived to be “ugly” or even “average looking.”
—And why is it that the African-American man must only be handsome and between the ages of 30 and 40? Doesn’t he have any vital character traits, as do the others?
Surely, he must be “ambitious,” or “smart,” or “spunky,” too!

True, James…isn’t that always the theme, my friend?
Brace yourself for more of the ‘more’……Sonny will be even more prominent now…Isn’t that his father coming back, Mike Corbin? I read enough into GH’s background to know the history.
Isn’t Max , Stan Wojwhatever, from “Barney Miller”?….I watch reruns with my Dad, sometimes….

Hi Celia! You are correct on all counts! It’s bizarre that GH would need to give Sonny even more screen time. It is shocking and disappointing.

On the other hand, I used to enjoy Max Gail on Barney Miller, as you are now with your father.

Expanding the character of Sonny, i.e., re-signing Maurice Benard, just on the heels of the horrible treatment of Genie Francis, is hard to digest. ..Like soap opera digest! 🙂 Take care, Friend!

James, I’ve only got one word for you……

PREACH!

Thank you, MJ! And…Amen!

I hear you, James. Is it just one person who makes the decision of letting an actor/actress go, or recurring?….or does it take a team?
It is very depressing and disheartening. Genie and Nathan were two of my favorite characters……and, I adore Liesl. I suppose Ms Gati will leave as well, soon? ….I can’t see a place ‘saved’ for her without Nathan.
Good night, my friend.

Something is in the air in Genoa City as stories are being wrapped with a bow (Goodbye Scott Grainger!), or put on hold (Please come back soon, Dina! Ravi who?), pending new castings and such. I appreciate comings and goings in daytime drama, but hope Mr. Young & Company continue to stay true to history and legacy characters.

In recent days, there was a lovely exchange between Sharon and Chelsea about their shared pasts with Newman men. And I am so in love with Sharon again. Maybe she can become the beacon of hope and strength every show needs. I do sense a Sharon-Nick reconciliation is the endgame here… someday. And, standing ovation for the Abbot story lines. I love seeing Jack and Ashley spar and be involved in a family/business story line. I do not need to see rehashed romances as a la what they do on B&B. And please, keep Tracy close! I also like what seems a natural progression of characters such as Nick, finding new paths into social service and philanthropy.

I have always loved Sharon, Iakovos…..she is the only actress/character who has taken multiple beatingsvand bounced back, each and every time…..without rancor. Sharon Case is a true professional.
Well, as far as Nick? I do admire his philanthropic heart, albeit I’d like to see him hands-on, instead of merely talking about it….yes, a noble cause, indeed….I was just tired of tool belts in his jockeys and the constant kissy-poos with Chelsea.
I silently mocked him when Nick said he was going to tackle the new, improved bathroom…now, I see where TPTB were going with this ‘project’…..the infamous money in the wall—is Chelsea a good girl, or bad?? Hmmm. Stay tuned.

Poor JM/Nick he is either mad and storming around or having sex with someone surely we can find something for him to do? These casting calls are for Kyle & maybe a new Summer ugh. I am hoping the other one is for Olivia Hastings grown son I think his name was Nathan. MY still is going at too fast of a pace for me can’t keep up and Ashley has become snarky to the point I can’t watch her she obviously needs a love interest she is wrapped way too tight.

@K/kay,
Too funny, Kay, my friend….maybe, just maybe, when Chelsea leaves, for parts unknown, yet; Nick will have more structure and escape from this fantasy world TPTB have created for him.
The only purpose he has, as I see it, is giving the bathroom a makeover…and, of course, the ’cause’. But, Kay, as I said, the writers need to give this ’cause’ feet and a mouth—Nick needs to give it life.
Then, there’s Sharon…waiting….waiting….

Let’s get Mila Kunis to play Claire.

LOL, James…Mila is no 20-year-old…..about fifteen years too old….but, it’s a soap, my friend—-no age limit. Everything goes?

Wow—i thought she was younger. Shows what I know!!!

Oh, no worries, James…..Mila does look twenty, LOL…soooo…….

For the black4 male Don…either bring back Tyler with the gorgoeus Redaric Williams to befriend Lily again and that way his sister Leslie can pop in too and maybe mix it up with Neil again. Or …finally bring back legacy character Nate jr so he can mingle with Hilary and continue the devon triangle. Also Olivia his mom is sorely missed as the barber sisters were huge for y n r fans in the 90s. Please stop adding dedacto new characters with no ties to the rich history of genoa city.

Amen Damien

Definitely Robert Scott Wilson in the role of Caleb? This guy is soooo hot—how can any girl/woman or man, not drool?????
More importantly he is sooo talented—he can play the best ‘bud’, lover, son, the best in any role…….AND, the worst baddie. “Petey” can bring it !! LOL.
I only hope that whoever Caleb is, will not get ‘hooked’ up, un, deux, trois.
I can’t think of any ‘Elle’ to fit the role…..she sounds perfect for Ravi…..make this poor guy be young, have fun and live life….massive jump from Ashley….give him a break, PTB.
Don….Hmmmm….Charles Divins ( Passions’ Chad) sounds perfect….and, he is soooo hot. I don’t want to sound superficial, but, he really is!!!!! And, again….another true thespian…with true acting skills.
Someone for Abby? Or Hilary’s sperm donor??

Totally in the Robert SW camp, Celia. The guy is gorgeous beyond belief AND can act. As for ANY other add-on, I recommend: NO ONE. Enough already. In the last 6 months, we’ve had to put up with sleazy Zack, Tessa’s “couldn’t pass high-school drama” sister, and the egregious Graham. Give us a break!

Oh, yeah, Soaphound…..number 1 for sure–runner up? Ryan Paevey could come on over to Y&R. But, I’m sure he has other plans….

Celia, I am definitely on board with your ideas for Robert Scott Wilson, that is, your ideas elaborated here… 🙂

He’s the whole package, James…..no pun intended….LOL…. forgive moi ??

Robert Scott Wilson really proved his acting chops when they moved him from “aw, shucks” goodie two shoes to psycho. He would be good somewhere in the middle like a corporate raider type that has a tough exterior and no-holds-barred kind of attitude like Don Diamont as Bill Spencer on B&B. HOWEVER he is more sleazy like the oily bo hunk of Sixteen Candles. He just gives me the creeps. HaHa!

Awww, shucks, Chrystie, LOL…..yeah, Scott, as Psycho Ben did give me the creeps, too….but, in the back of my head, I saw him as “Petey Cortlandt”.
Ben didn’t start out as a feral maniac….TPTB decided to use their typically bizzare moves for convenience sake….as they did for both Andres: ( GH and Days)…. and, of course, our beloved Genie Francis…..
I never like Don Diamont as Brad Carlton…he, actually, did give me the creeps, LOL.

I’d like to see the show not hire any more actors until they come up with some actual storylines for the actors they already have. When are the soaps ever going to learn that you can hire whoever you want but if you don’t have long-term story in place it doesn’t matter one bit…?

Well said, and so true of Y&R now that Mal is also writing the show. I don’t even know who the characters are supposed to be from one day to the next anymore.

I agree 100%

THANK YOU ALAN……..WELL SAID!

Like all the other’s feel Alan, very well said and I agree 100%…I wish Mal Young would wake up and understand that…I think he is making Y&R like a nighttime drama and do stories that move and no investment in characters and like you mentioned long-term story…

I actually would like to see the newbies that are really not gelling tossed in favor of bringing back some of the oldies like Nina and Phillip and Chance. They really had potential there and I know Thom Bierdz really wanted to come back.

I know Michael Graziadei is busy, but I would love to see Daniel come back with his daughter.

Like these thoughts!

I suggest Topo Gigio with rabies to play Kyle – the little rat.

What is the status of Kristoff? I know he was having personal problems, but that was months ago? I hope he is alright-is he still on the show or what is going on-does anyone know? Is Tessa sleeping on the couch in the Hamilton Winters office since being kicked to the curb by her boyfriend? I was really liking what Mal was doing-and also giving him big hopeful benefit of doubt-but lately some things seem stupid and leaves me wondering. I do kind of like the beginning -previously on YR-as it seems to focus me right in on what is going on-but I sure miss the previews-I want it all!

I notice that Kristoff is still listed on contract actor on the credits, just going to take time and he will return…

I think thst Kristoff is still mourning the loss of his son, Phyllis….. takes a very long time to get back among the living, albeit the pain never goes away.
He was back for a while, but, perhaps, ‘his’ time was not enough.

@CeeCee
UR right Sweets….everyone mourns at their own pace, there
Isn’t a right or a wrong way to heal….however you do need time.
I sincerely hope Kristoff returns to the show… He is missed.
Speaking of which I’m not getting enough Victor of late…
Mal Y. should be concerned about writing for his beloved
characters. Giving them more interesting storylines to sink
their teeth into…Nick needs a challenging career overhaul,
Billy needs focus, Jack needs to STOP biting his lower lip…
Abbey has to start acting her age, Mattie is more mature 4
goodness sake…. I like Victoria’s Ex, he’s a keeper… I still
believe in a Neil & Ashley romance… Victor & Nicky need
to reconcile their differences, Hillary & Devon R each other’s
end game as well as Sharon & Nick. I would like to see
Jack & Phyllis try again…

P.S. That should keep the writing team busy for a while ‼️‼️

@Fanny,
Hi, my lady, Fanny,
As you know, my boy went to heaven to play with the angels five years ago….he would have been turning six soon….I am crying as I type this…..
The pain never goes away—some days are better than others….we just pick ourselves up for the sake of the family’s wellbeing, and our own health….I come from good stock, Fanny, but I am a mother first, and it hurts!!….I have a most supportive husband who puts my life and that of our our kids’ lives before his, lots of family, my children, friends….coming here helps, as well….
You like JT? Yeah…even when he was the bad boy, back in the day, I liked him…..I was young, but I miss those Y&R days……especially in the summer when they gathered by the Abbott’s pool, or at the Newman’s…all so young…I miss Mac ( Ashley B, the original)…..
Ashley and Neil are perfect for each other…..but, one of them needs to loosen his/her collar….too serious–no fun.LOL.
Gee, I thought I was the only one to notice Jack’s bottom lip-biting. The gesture irritates the weebie jeebies out of me. I don’t know if it is just an habitual affectation, or if Peter thinks it’s a good gimmick/ploy to make his displeasure know? Whatever it is, I don’t like it……too pedestrian, at this point.
I don’t like Jack, Phyllis, or Billy…never liked Jack….Kelly and Jason have completely changed the characters’ personae. I tried, my lady, but, I can’t get into these nu-characters.
Nikki and Victor will always end up together….I applaud Eric his stamina, his professionalism, his talent, his endurance, and general outlook on life.
The day Sharon and Nick ‘ get together’ will be momentous. I can’t wait !!

Having my own mental health struggles last year due to my thyroid, I have a new understand and appreciation for those that are afflicted. I am sure the holidays were not easy and especially after the holidays.

He is a beautiful man and an incredibly talented actor so I hope that Sony gives him the time he needs to make progress. There will always be set backs, but that can be minimized if given the time and distance one needs to find themselves.

Sorry to hear that, Chrystie……we have all suffered through something……sometimes, I had to struggle for my next breath, in my dark days, Chrystie….two songs described my emotional state when Imlost my little boy…..”Ashes”, by Lily Kershaw; and “Painted Black” by the Stones….
I thank God for my not succumbing to depression or “losing it”….I am woman; I am strong!!
Nevertheless, mental health is not something one throws in someone’s face. This is why I was so upset, tonight, after watching GH.
I cannot believe the writers…..Carly ‘slapping’ Nelle with ” I know about your past mental issues and having been institutionalized” ( paraphrasing). Very callous, crude and insensitive of them.
Was there a point to that scene? It is mystifying to me, Chrystie.

Kristoff is planning to make an announcement soon, his ex wife said it on Twitter earlier today.

So, we’re still pretending that “Claire” isn’t Summer and “Caleb” isn’t Kyle?

Okay.

Probably right, TDO. I never understood why they let go of Blake Hood as the first SORASED Kyle. He was handsome, sharp, and quirky. As for Summer returning, I can only say, “pass the flask”.

I have a feeling, that the new teen, mentioned might be a SORASED Faith.

i never ever got that casting error of letting blake hood go thought he was amazing as kyle.but shouldnt surprise me they let genie francis go as genevieve..

Good points. Maybe this time, Kyle Abbot can be used to maximum effectiveness. Jack deserves a son with whom he can connect.

A Summer redo is welcomed. I did not care for the characters during previous producing/writing ‘regimes.’ If Phyllis can get a massive overhaul and we buy it, so can her daughter.

I keep saying recast Summer and have come come back from England with a British accent. After all, if Madonna and Lyndsey Lohan can come back from England after spending two weeks there, why can’t Summer?
Then, she bumps into Ravi (literally) and a lovely young romance commences.

I like that, Iakovos….Kyle may give Jack’ s perception on life, professionally and personally, a new, more positive direction.
I, also, like Violet’s idea of sorasing Faith…..I had a smidgen of a thought of Faith and Reed—then I realized they’re cousins, LOL…..how about Charlie? Too young?
Could the writers be thinking of sorasing Moses? Is he older than the twins?—-not that it matters in soapland.

“a 20-something to play the contract role of Claire, who is described as “fierce, clever, unapologetically ambitious, and possesses a keen intuition that drives getting what, and who, she wants.”

There is ONLY one clear choice for the part of this 20-something………………..

JOAN COLLINS

That’s a good one

And why not? If not her, then Susan Lucci.

Oh, my gosh, Barbara….had a good laugh…I needed that!!!! Hilarious.

Sounds like Claire from DOOL. (smh)

“could” that 30-40 year old African American … be

a recast of Devon – bells and whistles

Yeah, ever since he cheated on Tatyana Ali (Roxie) with his father’s girlfriend…

They should have had the Fresh Prince come and knock him around a bit.

And they never, ever should have put Hilary with Neil knowing full well they meant to have her and Devon together. That was just horrible and painted the character in a corner. It is time for him to act like Catherine’s grandson and become a leading man.

How about Kristen Alderson as Claire.

Fantastic idea!

Just get rid of Tessa.

Teagan Sirset for Claire

The 20-30 yr old male sounds like Kyle. We need to understand why he voted against his dad.

Another sounds like yet another love interest for noah. Cut this guy get a break. Or its a love interest for Mariah. Sadly mariah is the same description so i hope if for her its not diluting her spunk.

Could the Don guy either be for Hillary or i would hope Lily. I truly want Cane away from Lily and i think Hillary could be a great connection for Cane n bring spark to stories.

An

I would agree with Hillary and Cane if it didn’t involve re-writing history, because Hillary has spent the bulk of her time on the show up until recently being the main nemesis of the Winter’s family, despite at several points being married to Devon and Neil. It was bad enough when tptb ‘forgot’ that Chelsea drugged and raped Billy, and now they’re great friends when that would never happen the other way around, and on top of that no longer mentioning that Chelsea gave up a child for Billy and Victoria to adopt.

Noah needs either someone that gels with him like Sharon did with Nick or Victor/Nikki level, or they need to give him a strong business or personal storyline that redefines Noah, something the actor can chew on that doesn’t involve a girlfriend at all. Mariah needs someone that’s the opposite of her because two ‘spunky’ characters is redundant, although she should meet someone who has a strong enough personality to be her match, or it just won’t work. I totally agree with Kyle returning; we definitely need to see what changed enough for him to vote against Jack considering how close they were before he left and in all his other incarnations.

Hilary has so much potential now that she is coming out of her conniving witch days. She could be a very big powerhouse female lead like Drucilla used to be. I would definitely welcome her with Cane because Cane and Lily are just milk toast.

If Cane and Lily are not having marital problems then all they ever do is have them get a room at the Athletic Club. It’s time to realize there really is nothing left for this couple and to move on.

Cane was never more fun as when he was paired with feisty Amber. He really needs someone who is his opposite who can light a fire under his but and ignite his soul. He has made sooo many mistakes this year and been vindictive which really is not inline with his character that it is time for him to have a great metamorphosis.

I have always felt that Noah and Mariah had chemistry, too bad they are brother and sister.

I really hope these are either new legacy characters or have strong enough ties to the canvas to be relevant, and not waste the fans time, and hogs up the screen. I would think by now that new regimes would see the huge mistake every other regime has made, with just force-fed glorified day players that are just used more often, when we could delve into Ravi’s background, and show more of Gloria like they’ve been doing with Tracy, which was a great idea and a no-brainer since she strengthens the Abbott family along with being the moral center and the heart of the Abbotts. If they don’t put some real work into making new characters important to the whole canvas and giving them strong personalities, no one will care and we’ll get another Graham, Jordan, Crystal, or Zack, characters that should’ve been casted stronger and increased their potential to further strengthen the canvas.

Focus on what works and what can help other characters go and grow in new directions that at the same time are character driven and make sense for the character. Stop casting girlfriends for Noah unless you’re going to explain why he is so unfortunate in the love department, otherwise he just looks like a sad loser again and again for no reason. Cast characters that are good enough to grow a fan base, like J.T, Mac, Raul, Brittany, those were well written and acted characters that blended well on the canvas and carried story without even having to be a Newman, Abbott, or any of the other rich families. It shouldn’t be hard for someone who’s written Dr. Who and Eastenders and has overseen all the BBC soap dramas at one point to create characters that connect to the canvas, strong enough to last, and interesting enough for us to grow to love.

Well said Dante, Loved JT, Colleen, Mac, Brittany and Raul…those were the days.

I agree with this. I think a large problem is the writers have spent NO time on character development — we know nothing about them and they have no interesting personality.

Some of the casting also seems to be based on physical beauty alone with no consideration of their screen “presence.” Looks alone generally won’t cut it. For example, the actors playing Abby and Noah are nice looking but they are as bland as can be. It is a HUGE missed opportunity that these legacy characters are such “blank slates” — There is nothing about either actor that makes me want to watch them. Meanwhile, Camryn Grimes, who is far from ugly but would never be the “cover model” that these others are, is the only one who has managed to make a relatively new character interesting. IMO, Grimes is like Tricia Cast — Both are “okay” in looks but I would watch either one of them just read the phone book. The casting people don’t seem to have a clue about any of this.

When Neil comes back, he should have a new love life. I loved his wife, before Hillary, Karen, played by Nia Peoples. They were so good together, and hopefully a new Malcolm, instead of the Don’t guy, they are probably getting to be Hillary’s baby daddy. That SL is boring, and it really hasn’t started yet. Who cares if Hillary has a baby? The woman loves herself so much, where will she ever find a little left over, for a poor baby? Totally sick of Devon and his cow eyes, drooling, every time they are together. Bad enough having to watch Cain and Lily, back at it. Some of these couples need revamping. Hopefully the newcomers will shake things up a bit.

I liked Nia Peebles as well. I’d love to see her return to the show. However, I’d prefer if Karen became involved with other characters (I wouldn’t mind seeing her paired with Jack) rather than be stuck with the Winters clan. IMO, the writers should get RID of them all (Devon, Lily, Cane and those twins), keep Neil, and bring in the other relatives — Olivia, Nat Jr., and Aunt Mamie. Where exactly are they?

@ Barbara from Atlanta. Thanks for responding, despite all my spelling errors. They used to let us edit, but now are stuck with our mistakes, unless we make another comment, with the correction.
I agree with getting rid of the Ashbys, although I don’t mind Devon, but not with Hillary. About Mamie, she must be quite elderly, as she was older than John, I think. I did not care for Dru, but did like Olivia. New SLs coming up look pretty good, especially this thing with Chelsea. Some people don’t like spoilers, so I won’t give away, what I’ve read.

Recast Adam, Chelsea, Billy, Phyllis Kyle and Reed, cut Devon, Tessa and Ravi.

Ever since the character has been on the show, I have HATED Cane. There is NOTHING interesting about this boring grifter who has only LIED the entire time that he’s been there. Yet, the parade of writers have worked their darndest to make this guy a main character. They have given this character plot after plot focused on him —- somehow connected to Phillip Chancellor; mob father; unhinged mother; sexual target of Amber; businessman; etc. And still, he remains an uninteresting character that, maddeningly, other folks fawn all over him (the scenes with Jill cooing at him are nearly unwatchable). Plus, we’ve had to suffer through the dull-as-drying-paint love story with Lily. The show has done EVERYTHING to make Cane a player. IMO, it just has not worked and they should cut their losses. I’ve hoped that the show would DITCH him.

When I read about Australian Ingo Rademacher going to B&B, I re-thought Cane: Maybe the character of Cane is not my problem. Maybe I just don’t like the actor. I actually might grow to like someone like Rademacher in the part. The actor playing him does not interest me at all — The ONLY time that I enjoyed watching him was when Julia became pregnant, Lily threw him out, and Victoria fired him —- all in a matter of a few glorious weeks. Sadly, with Sally Sussman gone, the new writer seems hellbent on returning old Cane to the show. (The Paris scenes between Lily and Cane pining over each other and the heavy use of flashbacks was PAINFUL).

Will we ever see the end of Cane or the recasting of this role. After ten years of the guy, I think we’ve had enough of him.

Two of these casting calls sound like Kyle Abbott and Summer Newman.

Chelsea is a very good actress, who is very important to us
The show is a part of our lives and we want her to stay, or at least brought back soon to stay
Thank u

I did not know that Chelsea was leaving the show.
I can seem to get into her and Nick relationship, she was good with Adam. she could be herself, with Nick she can’t.
IF she leave will the truth come out about Kristen and Adam being his father. If Nick and Sharon get back together they will raise him as their son and the truth will not come out. There are so many lies, the truth needs to come out about a lot of issues on the soaps.

Bring back Ben (the doctor) he and Ashley had a wonderful connection, she needs a man in her life.

Nikki sleeping around, needs to be brought to the light ( let it result in a real life issue.
She should be bring back some moral in to the show.

Again I would like to see some real life issues.
I like the story line about the homeless and the affordable housing.

Bring back Adam, I do not see no one playing that part like Michael M.

Y&R you got to keep it interesting so your viewers will keep watching

Shemar Moore ( Malcolm Winters) would be a great asset to the show

Kim M from Bold and the beautiful would fit in

Chelesa friend the photography bring him back he was a good actor

Why is Chelsea leaving

Where is danny and Phyllis son Bring him back.

How about Amber Moore (B&B) she would bring some excitement to the show.

How about Keisha Knight, Malcolm Jamal Warner

I hope Victor Newman stay , he is one of the reason why I continue to watch

How about Thomas from B & B, and how about Caroline from B & B

Actors KeKe Palmer, Trevor Jackson, Paige Hurd just to name a few

‘The Bold and the Beautiful’s’ Kimberlin Brown Previews What’s Ahead for Sheila Carter

Published

By

Last week. the stars of The Bold and the Beautiful were in Monte-Carlo at their 65th annual TV Festival. With a full plate of: meeting the fans, attending the parties, talking with the press, and then shooting some remote scenes to air late this summer on the CBS soap, the cast had their dance cards full.

Kimberlin Brown (Sheila) sat down with the The Upcoming to give some insight into the life and times of Sheila Carter; acting on a soap for more than three decades, and a tease of what’s to come in the next few months for her character.

Brown previewed: “My producer last night shared some tidbits with me and there’s some really good stuff coming up for Sheila. It’s going to involve a little drama, a little bit of romance, and a lot of comedy.”

Photo: JPI

As B&B viewers know, Sheila wants Deacon (Sean Kanan) and Taylor (Rebecca Budig) to guarantee that she can be part of her son, Finn (Tanner Novlan) and her grandchild’s life in return for signing the divorce papers. Ultimately, will Sheila ever truly sign them? Stay tuned.

The popular star, who has made playing bad so good also added, “I mean where else can I do things that you should be in prison for? There are people at home going, ‘go, go get ’em.’ It is like they’re rooting for me, because I’m doing what maybe they want to do and would never get away with. So it’s an escape. Daytime is truly an escape.”

Speaking of the fun of playing all the plots she has involved with on daytime from her early years on The Young and the Restless to The Bold and the Beautiful, Brown noted “I think that the real joy to playing Sheila is I do things that nobody else does. And I was told when I got this part, don’t play it safe. There is no wrong. And as an actress to get a note like it just means that I can do things that nobody else can and smile about it and, you know, get away with it. Do I pay consequences? Yes, I do, but she always comes back. I’m the character that people love to hate and I’m the character that people sympathize with because all she wants is love.”

You can check out the full conversation with Kimberlin Brown below.

So, what do you hope Sheila does next? Do you think she will keep Deacon and Taylor apart? Will she get involved with someone else? Share your predictions via the comment section below.

Christel Khalil Reveals She Almost Quit Acting After ‘That’s So Raven’ Audition, But Then Came ‘The Young and the Restless’

Published

By

The Young and the Restless fan favorite, Christel Khalil (Lily Winters) is the special guest on this week’s edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped today on Tuesday, June 23rd.

During the interview with Rebecca and Greg, Khalil who had played Lily Winters on-screen since August of 2002, nearly 24 years with the CBS soap, shared how early on her teenage acting career, she was ready to call it quits in show business, after a heartbreaking audition for the lead of a new Disney Channel sitcom, which later turned out to be the hit seres, That’s So Raven, starring Raven-Symoné which ran for four seasons from 2003-2007.

Christel recalled what happened. “I was 14 and I had always auditioned for all these Disney projects. So I auditioned for That’s So Raven, it was between me and Raven-Symoné and it was called at the time Absolutely Psychic,” explained Khalil. “The character was this girl who had psychic ability, but then when Raven got the role, they named the title of the show after her.”

Photo: CBS

HOW A BROTHERLY TALK CHANGED THE COURSE OF CHRISTEL’S CAREER

Reliving the disappointment to Greg and Rebecca, Christel explained, “I lost that part and I was just so devastated, because for the network call there were 20 people in the room watching me, and I just have always had such performance anxiety. I just completely bombed the audition and it was terrible. So, I was just devastated. I was actually going to quit acting and then I got the final call for The Young and The Restless and I wasn’t going to go.”

It was Khalil’s brother, who actually got her to reconsider, and if he hadn’t, we would not have our Lily Winters in Genoa City! Christel recounted, “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m done. I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m just going to hang out with my friends.’ I was just devastated. My brother, who is seven years older than me, and he had quit acting at the same age that I was at that time. He said to me, ‘I promise you, I actually really regret quitting. Just go on this audition and if you don’t get it, you can quit.'”

Christel’s screen-test for the role of Lily was actually with the late, great, Kristoff St. John who would play her father Neil (Later it was revealed to Lily, that Neil’s brother, Malcolm Winters was her bio-dad).

ACTING WAS EASY WITH THE LATE KRISTOFF ST. JOHN

“So, I went (to test for Lily) and I remember the screen-test was with Kristoff St. John. It was just so easy to act with him because he’s just so there. I remember just being on set, and that was my first time there for a screen-test where you were actually on set. I had never experienced that before. It was my first time being with an actor and  having makeup done, which just helps you really be able to do your best work.”

Recalling the screen-test with the St. John, Khalil, “It was where I had to be emotional ( in the scene) and I always had issues being emotional at auditions. But I was there with him, it just came, and it happened. It was natural and I felt so good and it was amazing. It stands out in my mind a lot.”
