The Young and the Restless has revealed that none other than Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are making returns to the top-rated CBS daytime drama series in an upcoming story arc reprising their original roles as Malcolm Winters and Stephanie Simmons, that is said to be over multiple episodes.
Moore and Fox begin taping their scenes today on Tuesday, February 17 at the soap’s soundstages at Television City. The characters of Malcolm and Stephanie will be seen in episodes that will air in April.
This will mark the first time since 2023 that Moore reprises his signature soap role. Malcolm is the younger brother of the late Neil Winters played by Kristoff St. John. He last made a comeback to honor his on-screen brother and late co-star for Y&R’s 50th anniversary celebration. Moore burst on to The Young and the Restless in his original run from 1994 to 2005, and also returned again in 2014 and 2019.

It has been over 30 years since Vivica A. Fox has appeared on The Young and the Restless. She played Dr. Stephanie Simmons from 1994-1995, In story, Stephanie was a colleague of Dr. Olivia Winters (Tonya Lee Williams) at Genoa City Memorial Hospital. In the storyline, Drucilla (Victoria Rowell) urged her sister to fix Malcolm up with Stephanie. The two had a relationship, but Stephanie’s demanding schedule caused a rift and she eventually left Genoa City.
Fox is no stranger to soap operas. She began her career on Days of our Lives in the role of Carmen back in 1989. She soon followed with her most famous soap role as Maya Reubens on Generations between 1989 to 1991, where she co-starred with none other than Kristoff St. John who played Adam Marshall.
Back in an interview with Pop Culture TV in 2019, Fox said, “If Young and the Restless ask for Stephanie to come back and do a cameo or do a short little stint, I would welcome it. Absolutely.”

Moore and Fox have also worked together outside of Y&R, in fact, back in 2004, they starred in the motion picture Motives, where in story Emery Simms (Moore) cheats on his wife, Constance (Fox), leading to a spiral of blackmail and murder investigation.
Throughout his career, Moore has won eight NAACP Image Awards as well as the 2000 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performances on The Young and the Restless.
Shemar is currently starring in a new spin-off series, S.W.A.T. Exiles rom Sony’s iconic S.W.A.T. IP, which has spawned multiple series and films. Sony Pictures Television produces and distributes the 10-episode series globally. S.W.A.T. Exiles just wrapped production in Los Angeles. Previously, Moore starred on the CBS drama series S.W.A.T. for eight seasons from 2017 to 2025.
Coming up, Fox stars in the upcoming MGM/Amazon feature film, Is God Is to be released this May. She currently has her own fashion collection with HSN – The Vivica A. Fox Collection.
So, what do you think about Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox returning to The Young and the Restless? What do you think will be revealed in their multiple story arc? Did they have a child together? Is someone sick in the Winters clan? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.
Kudos to Moore for not abandoning his daytime roots and coming back to Y&R when asked.
Wow how neat
They can stunt cast all they want. JG is ont of the most boring writers in daytime history. Vivica cannot be this hard up for a check. I would fall asleep reading his scripts. They need to change the HW and EP IMMEDIATELY. This show gets more nonsensical by the day. The Mariah/Dominic/Abby story is a prime example.
JOSH GRIFFITH PLEASE GO.
I am still scratching my head over bringing back Amy Lewis and the mystery of her son being Dominic’s half-brother. Then they kill off the half-brother! Huge ‘why bother’ turn of events. Stunt casting and the return of past characters are part of soap operas but darn, please make those efforts matter and make sense.
Y&R needs to turn its sights forward.
Imo it was obvious Jermaine Rivers Damien was cut to make budget room for Billy Flynns Chad and because they wanted to change course from a Lily/ Damien pairing to her with Cane again. Too bad i really liked her with Damien! Also Damien had the chops and Charm to be the lead Hastings man!
Stunt-casting, & even using a character who’s not been on since the 1990s! Sorry, but I’d rather see Y&R fix their existing problems than keep adding popular actors for short-term story bumps. I can’t get excited by this news. It helps pump up ratings, but will there be any longlasting story contributions? Maybe …? We’ll see.
Shemar Moore’s return is always welcomed. But Vivica A. Fox’s return is a genuine surprise. But I have always been appreciative of her acknowledging her past there and openness to reprising the role of Stephanie. I am just hoping these returns work out for the so-called “shocking” storyline.
Wow!
Hopefully Malcolm is part of Lily’s return along with Charlie and Mattie.
people can scream stunt cast all they want but you know people including myself will be tuning in to watch Shemar and Vivecs and hats off to them both for remembering where they came from ! can’t wait
I think it’s great maybe someone is sick or they might have a kid
I think they would say on Jeopardy I will take $200 Alex for Holden to be the long lost son of Malcom’s and Stephanie.
I got excited seeing their names (Shemar Moore and Vivica A Fox in Google news to be on Y&R then I clicked to read,
I love Y&R the best entertainment in daytime!!
I did not watch when Shemar and Vivica were on originally. I am definitely looking forward to their visit!!!!
I don’t remember this Vivicia A. Fox in Y&R, but I was more out than in with Y&R in the 90s. My guess for a great story would be that her character secretly had a child from Malcome, which would mean that Lily has a half sibling. But then they’ve already done a similar plot with Nate that went nowhere. Or could it be that Holden is their son?
I’m excited can’t wait to watch hopefully they had a love child who wants revenge on the Winters for not finding out about him…
Love it! Can’t wait
Please don’t make nick a junkies!
It will be nice to see these two on Y&R again…HOWEVER it is just another symptom of the horrible writing that plagues Y&R. While Malcolm and the Dr are not part of the parade of villains returning from the past or the dead, the show is relaying far too much on short short term stories featuring actors from the glory days.
There are currently some awesome actors on Y&R waiting for great storylines.Y&R is in desperate need of longterm story arcs….like stories that play out over 2 years.
Actually what all soap writers should do is watch 6 episodes of Heated Rivalry for a crash course in spectacular storytelling.
