Veronica Redd Speaks Out on Y&R Return: “What I like Most About Mamie’s ‘Re-Mix’ is How it, in Itself, is the Show’s Honor and Respect for Seniors in the Larger Society”

After over 19 years off the Genoa City canvas, the character of Mamie Johnson returned to The Young and the Restless at the end of September of this year for a longer run bringing actress Veronica Redd back to the soap.  Previously, Redd was asked back to the top-rated daytime drama series for the shows 50th Anniversary episodes back in March.

Longtime Y&R viewers will recall, that Redd first assumed the role of the Abbott family housekeeper from Marguerite Ray back in 1990. She went on to continue to play Mamie, who was much more than a housekeeper, but a family peacemaker, aunt to Drucilla and Olivia Winters, and a woman who fell for John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas), till 2004.

In the back-story, when John married the younger Jill Abbott (Jess Walton), Mamie had a visible dislike for Jill, and was a constant thorn in all of Jill’s machinations.  When John suffered a stroke, Mamie was the one to care for him and nurse him back to health. It was at that time she admitted she loved him. John returned her feelings, but then suddenly fell into a coma. When Jill found out about the love between them, she not only fired Mamie, but gave her a million dollars to leave town.

Now back in the fall of 2023, with a scheme to bring Jill down in her power play for Chancellor-Winters with Tucker (Trevor St. John), Redd is in the middle of a juicy storyline.  She spoke with Soap Opera Digest and had some inspiring words about the importance of not forgetting the seniors and more mature characters on the soaps and their value.

Redd expressed on her return: “What I like most about Mamie’s ‘re-mix’ is how it, in itself, is the show’s honor and respect for seniors in the larger society. This aspect of acknowledgement and appreciation for those of a living third generation has not been prevalent in America for way too many decades now. I know what it feels like to no longer be ‘seen’ in a room. No one likes feeling that way. There’ll be less of that insensitivity and inconsideration of others if we practice treating everyone with respect no matter their age.”

The veteran actress also shared, it is great to see this version of Mamie with more strength: “It is absolutely liberating. Mamie is a born leader. How terrific to see her take the reins of her own ‘now’ and to fashion a future equal to her current momentum and vast potential!”

Of course, viewers are looking forward to the upcoming fireworks between Mamie and Jill, when Mamie’s plot begins to become more exposed.

So, do you agree with Veronica? That Y&R has serviced the veteran characters of the show, perhaps better, than any other soap opera still on the air? Share your thoughts on Mamie’s return and ageism on your screens, via the comment section below.

This show is so dreadful right now I switched to Days and so much happier

This show has become the Old & The Pointless

Agree!
The corporation back and forth is of ABSOLUTE no interest as the main driving source.
Where are the YOUNG???
There is an ENTIRE generation(s) of youth missing who need to be RESTLESS!!!

Right on, Margherita—What a travesty—Victor devised a ridiculous plan to trap Nate in his own game—Why hire him in the first place? They all knew Nate is a backstabber—if he can betray his own family, what would stop him from doing worse to others?—-all for Victoria’s tween infatuation?
Can’t stand Mamie—
Granny Sharon thinks she has a life with a guy half her age and resents Summer? These writers are so unrealistic—Chance is young—He deserves a healthy storyline with a likewise young woman —have kids etc.

A “healthy” storyline? Wtf is that? How sexist to say Sharon is an old granny she is much prettier and interesting than this Summer who should’ve stayed on that rollercoaster it was the best acting she has ever done.

This is not about beauty or interesting personalities. So, I’ m sexist for telling the truth? Sharon is middle aged.—Chance is just starting in life—-you need to revisit your definition of “sexist”.
There plots are aged—same old same old. Let’s deal with the younger generation for a bit. All we get is what? Sharon, Nick, Victoria etc going through their second teen years.

Y&R needs a major shot of adrenaline because the current storylines are a snoozefest. Instead of involving Nate in this corporate story, they should have brought in a new character and have him be Mamie and Tucker’s son, making their alliance much more plausible. Link him with Audra and have a new power couple to root for, instead of turning her into a homewrecker for Kyle and Summer.

Keep Nate as a doctor and keep him AWAY from Victoria, who seriously needs a new story that doesn’t involve Newman Enterprises, and a new love interest.

Nick and Sharon belong together, as do Adam and Sally. Billy and Chelsea have potential, and I’m liking Lily and Daniel’s rekindling romance. Chance should be paired with Heather, who should stick around because Vail Bloom is a breath of fresh air.

Jack and Diane? What a joke. Both of these characters have been ruined by this story, as has Phyllis with the whole Stark/faked death debacle.

Happy to see that Danny is back, but the explanation for Christine and Paul’s divorce was a slap in the face to Doug Davidson and longtime fans. Still makes no sense why they won’t bring him back.

And finally, Victor… I have no idea what the point of the current plot with his “illness” fake-out is, but it’s really time for him to retire, stop screwing with his family, and find something new to focus on with Nikki.

Agree with just about everything , except Mamie and Tucker having a child together. My God, she’s old enough to be his mother, it’s ludicrous, and what about poor little Snowflake, she wants Chance now, the hell with what anyone else wants. As for Victor, I’m not entirely sure his illness is a fake-out or is he faking his faking? Too bad they got rid of Nate only to sic him once more on Devon and Lily. Also wonder how Claire will catch him, guess he’ll be bait after Vickie dumps him. People call this show boring, etc but I think it’s quite interesting, so much going on.

Re: Doug Davidson……he has publicly bashed the show on X (formerly twitter) and has been quite a vocal MAGA, two very good reasons why the show moved on from him. I followed him on X and he me but when I found about his MAGA leanings, I blocked his sorry ass. Bye Felicia!

Do you really think Doug was treated fair and square? Why shouldn’t he retaliate in some way to tell his side of the story? I don’t know a thing about MAGA except in Doug’s case it could mean MyAssGotAxed.

Holy moly. My mom passed away and I’ve had a hard time watching since she died. She’s been gone for 9 years and I’ve lurked on boards to see what I might be missing occasionally. That paragraph you just wrote assured me I HAVE MISSED NOTHING! How dare they do that to Doug Davidson?! They respect Christine’s character enough to bring her back for an anniversary episode just to slap DD in the face again? Everything you just listed proved that they have taken every single wrong fork in the road. Way to prove you have no interest in keeping the fans even slightly happy, Y&R! The actors and fans deserve better than this. Sad. This show has been around too long to pull these stupid stories out of their butt cheeks. People watch for the chemistry between Jack and Victor. Sharon and Nick, Jack and Phyllis. Throw another chair through a boardroom window if you have to! Never weaken Victor. Sigh.

I’ve never seen the ”Young ” of Y&R —Not until the back in time flashes..

WOW back in time they were the ”Young” in The Restless..

Even now with the wigs and toupee and facelifts, they are far from the ”young” …

I was -ohhh my gawd- when seeing them many years back in time young..

Young and The Restless desperately needs to change its title……

Lately I only like Trevor and Adam….all the others are total sleepers..

I’m with you, SusieQ—Y&R is a dead-fest. I was about seven or eight when Sharon joined Y&R— my young heart was so enthralled with Sharon and Nick—Now, she wants Chance who’s younger than my husband—Chance is young and restless. Sharon?—-she needs Nick.

Mamie Johnson is truly a force to be reckoned with. Kudos to Redd and Y&R writers for bringing this iconic character through so many firsts which millions can identify with and rarely see on screen. Redd is a star!

Shemar Moore Makes Another Return to ‘The Young and the Restless’ as Malcolm Winters

Published

When Shemar Moore (Malcolm Winters) made his most recent on-screen return to his old stomping grounds at The Young and the Restless back at the beginning of April. Viewers also know that it has been teased that he was not done taping his most recent return story arc, and that he would be back to wrap it up.

Circle next week on the Monday, June 8 and Wednesday, June 9 episodes of the top-rated CBS soap opera, when Malcolm Winters, who has survived his bone barrow transplant surgery after being diagnosed with aplastic anemia, is back for some important conversations.

This time out, he will reconnect once again with his daughter Lily (Christel Khalil) and is recently discovered biological son, Holden (Nathan Owens). In addition, according to Parade, he will interface with his son’s New York City “travel companion” in Claire Newman (Hayley Erin).

THE LEGACY OF MALCOLM WINTERS

Part of the bigger story is Malcolm’s relationship with his ex Dr. Stephanie Simmons (Vivica A. Fox), who happens to be the mother of his child, Holden. Viewers can look for some unfinished business that the two need to settle in the upcoming episodes. Both Moore and Vivica A.Fox first appeared together on Y&R back in 1994 and then some 30 years later just a few months ago.

Shemar Moore made his debut as the younger brother of the late Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) back in 1994 and stayed with the soap until 2005. A Daytime Emmy win later, and with his first television experience under his belt, Moore went on to major primetime success on CBS’ Criminal Minds. Next, he helped launch and was the centerpiece for S.W.A.T. also on CBS, until it was canceled. Now, he will soon be seen in the new spin-off series, S.W.A.T. exiles.

During a recent conversation for Michael Fairman TV, Christel Khalil shared of working with her TV dad again: “It’s always amazing to have anyone come back that’s been away for a while, but especially, Shemar. It’s all the history with him being Lily’s dad. For me, it’s been 20 years of knowing him. Obviously, I don’t get to talk to him or hang out with him and that kind of thing. So it was just nice just to see him again and have that moment around Neil’s portrait, and to be able to share that together and even talk about that off-camera. It’s just special and feels like family, which is nice.”

So, looking forward to seeing Shemar Moore for a few more episodes as he wraps up Malcolm’s recent story arc and visits with his newly found son, Holden and his ex Stephanie? Do you hope for more emotional scenes that were not played out the first time he was back looking for a bone marrow donor to save his life? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

How ‘The Young and the Restless’ Mark Grossman Almost Became ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’s’ Thomas Forrester

Published

By

As initially reported by Michael Fairman TV, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation recently held a live daytime drama casting directors panel which featured: Greg Salmon (The Young and the Restless), Marnie Saitta (Days of Our Lives), Christy Dooley (The Bold and the Beautiful), and Kim Coleman (Beyond the Gates).

The four soap opera casting directors traded behind the scenes stories, their process to help actor’s in the audition process, the most difficult and important recasts to their respective shows during their tenure, and the challenges of casting under-five roles, which surprisingly can harder than finding the series regulars.

When the talked turned to a major recast that Greg Salmon had to find it was to fill the shoes of Justin Hartley who exited the CBS soap to star on the NBC drama, This Is Us.  The role of the black sheep of the Newman clan was previously played by Chris Engen and Michael Muhney, before Hartley. Salmon knew they found their man to be the fourth Adam when Mark Grossman entered the picture.

THE SEARCH FOR ADAM NEWMAN

Salmon explained, “That was a really tough role to recast. Before Justin, there were two other people who played the part. Adam Newman is central to the show. This is Victor Newman’s son, so it’s an incredibly important character. I remember Mark came in and read with Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) and a few other members of the Newman family. His energy was just off the charts. It felt like this is how Adam should be. Eventually, I think the audience really accepted him. Mark has playing the role for several (7) years now and he’s completely made the role his own.”

However, in an ironic twist, it appears that Grossman came very close to joining Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful in the part of Thomas Forrester played most recently by Matthew Atkinson, and before that Adam Gregory and Drew Tyler Bell.

THE SEARCH FOR THOMAS FORRESTER

Responding to Salmon, The Bold and the Beautiful ‘s casting director Christy Dooley revealed that Mark Grossman was once in the running for the role of Ridge and Taylor’s son. “He tested for us,” she recalled. “Mark came in and read for the role of Thomas Forrester, and he was my choice for the role,” Dooley shared.

Dooley added, “The role wound up going to Matthew Atkinson. But then Mark came down (the hall) to read for The Young and the Restless.”

Fans of The Young and the Restless know that during his 7-years as Adam Newman, that Mark Grossman has become one of the most popular stars on the show. So it’s difficult to wrap you head around that B&B might have nabbed his first as Thomas, and if so, we wouldn’t have gotten to see him turn out those stellar performances in Genoa City .

So, what did you think of this casting tidbit? Could you have seen Mark Grossman as Thomas Forrester? Glad that Y&R had him firmly as their Adam Newman? Let us know via the comment section and you can check the full daytime drama casting director panel below.

Marc Forget Exits ‘General Hospital’

Published

on

By

The Thursday June 4 episode of General Hospital paved way for the end of the line for Jenz Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota) butler/fixer, Pascal (Marc Forget).

In the pick of the June 3 cliffhanger, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was the hero and stopped the evil-doer from fleeing Port Charles for his part in aiding and abetting his boss with the cover-up of the murder of Professor Henry Dalton (Daniel Goddard) among other crimes.

Today’s episode did indeed mark the final appearance of Marc Forget who joined the ABC soap opera when he debuted back in July of 2025. Viewers met met Pascal when Kelly Thiebaud returned to the soap opera as Britt Westbourne and she was being blackmailed to work on Faison’s final project while at the Five Poppies in Dalmatia.

A General Hospital rep confirmed to Soap Opera Digest, that the June 4 episode, “Will be the last viewers will see of Pascal for now, but notes that in the world of Port Charles, comebacks are always possible.” So, how did Pascal get written-off the canvas? Here’s what went down:

PASCAL GIVES LUCAS KEY INFORMATION BEFORE BEING DRAGGED AWAY

After Sonny intercepted Pascal on his desperate attempt to get out of town, Sonny informed him hat Sidwell would stop at nothing from trying to get retribution for whoever killed his son, Marco, and promptly turned around and said that he would help Pascal flee the country, only if he turned on Sidwell.

An absolutely terrified Pascal had evidence for Sonny that he could use against Sidwell. However, he feared he would get killed on sight if he tried to retrieve the incriminating photos of Sonny and Laura from the safe at Wyndemere. So instead, Pascal gave the combination to the safe to Lucas (Van Hansis), so he could get the blackmail photos himself. But, did Pascal just set up Lucas to be killed since he loathes him for being the man to win the heart of the late Marco?

In the end, Sonny had one of his henchmen drag Pascal away and whisked off to an airfield to fly away to parts unknown, and hopefully never to be heard from again. But what now? Is Lucas going to end up being pegged as Marco’s killer and taken down by Sidwell if he gets his hands on the incriminating photos for Sonny and Laura? Stay tuned.

So, what did you think of Marc Forget’s run as Pascal? Sad or happy to see the character go? Do you think he will be back down the line? Share your thoughts via the comment section.
