THIS IS US: Kate and Tobe’s Marriage Crumbles as Little Jack is Injured

Photo: NBC

Tuesday’s night episode of This Is Us was one of the finest of its sixth and final season, and brought with it just exactly how little Jack, who is blind, ended up with the gash in his head.  Viewers feared for months that they would be watching the young boy fall into the backyard smoker that Tobe was grilling on, but it turned out he took a tumble in the park, when he left Kate and Tobe’s house all alone and unattended to.

In the episode entitled “Saturday in the Park” in which Kate sings the ‘Chicago’-tune to her son to help him landmark where he is walking as they go to his favorite place – the park and its swing set- illustrated how the die was cast for an explosive moment for Tobe and Kate’s relationship later in the episode.

Meanwhile, the Pearson family is gathering for Rebecca and Miguel’s 10th wedding anniversary at Tobe and Kate’s home.  Tensions become high when the roof of the house starts leaking into the kitchen and then the bedroom.  Tobe had dealt with this in the past, but cut corners financially to originally deal with it.  Now, as the home is becoming flooded, everyone starts to freak out.

Toby puts little Jack back in his room but does not make sure the gate was fully clasped thus leaving it unhinged.  Kate went at him earlier in the episode to make sure he hears it click before leaving Jack’s room to ensure his safety. Next, the plumber arrives, and Kate forgets to lock the front door behind him.  We also saw earlier in the episode how Kate showed her young son how to open the front door. These two mistakes would be costly to little Jack and Tobe and Kate’s marriage.

Alone, Jack puts on his red galoshes, grabs his cane and heads to the park. As viewers, we are worried sick as he nearly gets hit crossing a street. Back at the house, the entire family realizes Jack is MIA, and panic ensues.  Rebecca realizes he grabbed the red galoshes and tells Kate he must be at the park.  Leave it to grandma! She goes running to the park and comes upon a scene of little Jack being attended to by two bystanders.  Jack had fallen on to the cement and cut open his forehead.  He is taken to the emergency room and stitched up, but with that were the heartbreaking cries of a little boy who can not see, being taken care of my a doctor with Kate by his side.

After they get Jack home and to sleep, Kate and Tobe have a knock-down drag-out fight which Kevin and Randall come upon. Kate yells at Tobe for forgetting to hear the click of the gate in Jack’s room. He throws in her face that she left the door open.  Then, the argument goes into their different views and perspective’s on how they handle Jack’s blindness. Kate shouts “All you’ve ever seen were his limitations,”  Toby counters that Kate can’t see any limitations in their son, and that it is  irresponsible of her in how she raises him.  “I am the only parent in this family, period,” Kate spews.  Then Tobe fires back, “That’s the way you want it. That’s the way you need it!”  Later, Tobe cries by little Jack’s bedside, while outside, Kate sits between Randall and Kevin and in tears says, “I don’t know if Toby and I are going to make it.”

The entire episode was framed with flashbacks of how the Big Three came together to protect one another against a babysitter they did not like, while Rebecca and Jack celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.  As always with This is Us, a clever use of story to juxtapose the then and now makes the details of the show so special.  And… how about the little boy who played Jack? He was tremendous in the episode!  The moments where Jack was walking and we could see through his eyes, in which he sees nothing, was haunting and effective.

Little Jack stole the show! Where in the world did they find that precious gem. So glad that we know that he grows up to become a husband, father, and talented musician.

Another outstanding episode. I was sick when little Jack headed off to the park alone. The little boy playing Jack is wonderful. It was great that Rebecca realized where he was and ran to his rescue. Grandma is not so far gone after all. Watching Kate and Toby’s relationship crumb is heartbreaking. As always, kudos to the entire cast and crew.

This was a much better episode in a season that has been pretty lackluster.

WWE Royal Rumble: Sami Zayn Turns on the Bloodline, Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley to Wrestlemania

The best soap opera storyline going (the WWE’s ‘Bloodline’ internal struggles, betrayals, and alliances), had its long-awaited major development following the conclusion of the Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens WWE Universal Championship headliner at this weekend’s Royal Rumble PPV streaming on Peacock.  It provided viewers and fans with one of most dramatic moments ever witnessed in WWE history.

However, before all of that, it was the Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble with each of the winner’s getting their shot at at the championship and to headline Wrestlemania in Los Angeles this coming April.

Courtesy/WWE

As expected, Cody Rhodes, who made his triumphant return after an 8-month layoff from the ring – recovering from a torn pectoral muscle and surgery – beat 29 competitors to win the Men’s Royal Rumble finally eliminating Gunther. For it was Gunther who set a record for being in the ring the longest during a Royal Rumble match. Gunther was entrant #1 of the 30 men vying for the shot at the title.

Also as anticipated, Rhea Ripley, who has been on a hot streak of late as part of the ‘Judgement Day’, punched her ticket to Wrestlemania besting 29 other women. Ripley outlasted Liv Morgan after Morgan got misted in the face by mistake by Asuka and Rhea used that to her advantage to be the last woman remaining in the ring.

But all eyes were on the main event of the night and just what WWE Universal Champ Roman Reigns had in store for Sami Zayn. Prior to the match, Reigns had told Zayn he had one last test for him to prove his allegiance to the ‘Bloodline’. Problem was: Reigns was wrestling Sami’s best friend, Kevin Owens for the title.  Reigns, came to the ring with only Zayn and special counsel Paul Heyman by his side – the rest of the ‘Bloodline’ were conspicuous by its absence.

After Reigns defeated Kevin Owens, the rest of the Bloodline (Jimmy and Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa) joined him in the ring for a monumental beat down of  Owens including handcuffing him to the ropes.  When Reigns demanded Zayn find a chair, Sami was not pleased.  After locating a chair under the ring, he tossed it to Reigns.  Once in the ring, Zayn protected Owens and told Reigns he did not have to do this. That’s when, Reigns demanded Zayn deliver the chair shot.

Instead, Zayn hit Reigns in the back with the chair, thus ending his sensational run with the The ‘Bloodline’! What happened next was a sad beat down by Solo Sikoa, Jimmy Uso and Reigns of Sami.

However, in a surprise twist, Jey Uso, who had originally been skeptical of Zayn’s intentions in the ‘Bloodline’, turned his back on Reigns and the family, and walked out of the ring emotionally upset.

One can only imagine … perhaps Uso and Zayn might team up and it might mean the end of the Usos Tag Team Championship run? Will it be Owens and Zayn teaming up vs. The Bloodline? Zayn vs. Reigns for a title shot?

This story has been executed so well by the WWE that it has captivated audience and made Sami Zayn a beloved fan favorite in the process.

So, what did you think of the collapse of the ‘Bloodline’? Did you think Cody and Rhea would win their respective Royal Rumble’s? Share your thoughts in the comment section. But first, check out some of the highlights from the Peacock streaming PPV below.

GH’s Eden McCoy Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

Not often does a week’s worth of soaps offer up so many outstanding performances. However, the beginning of 2023 brought just that in dramatic scenes featuring General Hospital’s Kathleen Gati (Liesl), Kelly Thiebaud (ex-Britt), Willian Lipton (Cameron), Parry Shen (Brad) and Days of our Lives Lauren Koslow (Kate).

When all was said and done there was one performance, that for us, rang most true. For anyone who has ever gone through a break-up and had to let someone you care about down, you could feel and understand the raw emotion displayed by General Hospital’s Eden McCoy (Josslyn).

Photo: ABC

Not only did McCoy deliver during the breakup scenes as Joss broke Cameron’s heart into pieces, but later, Joss is shocked and guilt-ridden to find out that Britt died from ‘The Hook’s’ attack after saving her life, and then having to admit the whole thing to her mother, Carly (Laura Wright). Never mind the one other event of that fateful night.  Joss had sex with Dex (Evan Hofer) before she headed over to Kelly’s to talk to Cameron, realizing she should have cleared-up her relationship, first.

McCoy really shined when Josslyn arrived at Kelly’s to tell Cameron things have changed between them. She tearfully apologized for not coming to him sooner.  She promises she will always love him, but she is not in love with him anymore, and she lets him know there is no going back. They can’t fix things.  As Josslyn pours her heart out knowing what this was doing to Cameron, it was a five-hankie moment, indeed.

Photo: ABC

In addition, when Josslyn spills most all to her mother (she left out the part of having sex with Dex), you could genuinely feel the bond between the two, which as we have stated many times through the years, speaks to the perfect casting of McCoy as Carly’s daughter and her on-screen chemistry with Laura Wright.

For all of these well-played and outstanding moments, Michael Fairman TV names Eden McCoy our pick for The Power Performance of the Week.

Now let us know, what did you think of Eden’s work in the break-up scenes between Joss and Cam and its aftermath? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Britt Dies, Josslyn Breaks Up with Cameron, Ava Finds Out Esme is Pregnant

Wednesday’s General Hospital featured a heartbreaking death and an emotional break-up.  Although fans knew that Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) was leaving the daytime soap opera, we all thought that she would exit the canvas alive, especially given the set-up of her goodbye/birthday party, and that Britt was leaving those she loved behind to go live out her days with a new identity why she battled Huntington’s Disease.

However, the surprise was on us.  When Britt returned to the ‘Haunted Star’ to be with her mother Liesl (Kathleen Gati), she collapses. Eventually, Britt starts coughing up blood and Liesl finally realizes she needs to call 911.  But, it’s all too late.  Britt tells Liesl she won’t make it to the hospital as she was poisoned by ‘The Hook’.  As she draws her last breaths, Britt asks her mother to hold her.   The scenes featured touching performances by Kathleen Gati and Kelly Thiebaud.

Later, Liesl is alone at the hospital and Scott (Kin Shriner) joins her, and that is when Scott learns Britt dies.  He phones Nina.  Meanwhile, Liesl says one final emotional goodbye to Britt.

In another tearjerker. Josslyn (Eden McCoy) realizes she has to break up with Cam (William Lipton) tonight, especially after having sex with Dex (Evan Hofer).  She says it was wrong of her to give into her feelings for Dex, without breaking up with Cam, first.  Joss heads to Kelly’s with Dex outside for protection from ‘The Hook’.  Inside, an emotional Joss tells Cam things have changed between them, and that they can’t go back to how they were.  She apologizes to a gut-punched Cam but she’s not in love with him anymore.  Cam tells her they cannot go back to being friends.  Eden McCoy and William Lipton were excellent in these break-up scenes.

At GH, Esme (Avery Pohl) apparently has some form of amnesia from her hypothermia and can’t remember her name, that she was pregnant or where she was.  Is it another trick … or did Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) just get off scot-free for their roles in kidnapping her?

When Ava (Maura West) arrives at GH and learns that Esme is pregnant, Nikolas approaches her so they can have a word in private.  Then, in front of Laura (Genie Francis), Trina (Tabyana Ali), Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and more, Ava asks Nikolas if he is Esme’s baby daddy, to which he replies, “Yes”.    Then, as only Ava can do, she hauls of and slaps him as his mother looks on in horror over the entire situation!

So, were you shocked that GH decided to kill off Dr. Britt Westbourne? What did you think of the break-up scenes between Josslyn and Cameron? Now that Ava knows Esme is pregnant with Nikolas’ child, what do you hope she does next? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section, but first, check out Josslyn trying to let Cameron down easy that only backfires on her in the clip from today’s GH below.
