Three-Time Daytime Emmy Winner, Cady McClain, Reveals She’s ‘Back On Set’ But On Which Show?

Photo: HutchinsPhoto.com

After her Instagram post earlier this week, fans of Cady McClain have been attempting to dissect her cryptic tease of a message. McClain, a three-time Daytime Emmy winner, shared the good news with fans that she is ‘back to work’, except she didn’t share which show or project she is working on … just yet!

In her post, McClain teased: “Back on set! Fun to be working again on such a terrific show! Can’t wait to be able to share the news with you all soon! Meantime, hoping you are all taking good care of yourselves. Sending hugs!! ”

Now, it could be Cady is working on a primetime show, not a daytime show, but we shall see.

She has previously appeared on The Young and the Restless and Days of our Lives of the four remaining daytime soaps.  On Y&R she played Kelly Andrews, and on DAYS, Jennifer Horton Deveraux.  And, as viewers of the NBC soap saw this week, Jennifer (in a short appearance by Melissa Reeves) returned to Salem with Jack (Matthew Ashford), only to tie-up loose ends over the holidays and exit the show.

Since DAYS still tapes months ahead, could McClain be returning there, or might she pop up on GH and B&B? The character of Kelly was killed-off of Y&R back in 2015.

Previously, Cady became soap-famous for her roles as Dixie Cooney Martin on All My Children and Rosanna Cabot on As the World Turns.

Share your thoughts on which show you hope Cady is working on, whether, primetime, daytime, or a streaming series, in the comment section below.

It would be nice to have her pop up on GH as Dixie but I don’t know if that would work since Michael E. Knight is now Martin Gray on that show.

She could go back to Y&R as Roseanna Cabot…that might be nice too.

But if she’s going to be a new character, I’m sure it will be good either way.

A short-term gig as one of Martin’s ex-wives on GH could be fun. Heck, I’d buy her as Esme’s birth mother. Would give Cady scenes opposite her husband.

However, since GH is dark this week, I’m guessing that it’s a different show. B&B?

Thank You, James! Rosanna was my favorite character when Cady played her. Rarely do we get such a smart, admirable, and brave woman who actually respects herself the way Rosanna did. She and Maura West as Carly, her half-sister, were pure soap magic together. Y&R was not a good fit for her, not as Kelly anyway. Not even Cynthia Watros could salvage that train wreck character!

Show up on B&B as Liam’s supposedly deceased mother

If we’re sticking to daytime, and going by her costume, hair & makeup, I’d wager to believe she is on the set of General Hospital. However, she could also be on set of a primetime series and/or film. Who knows. Am hoping it is daytime related, though. Days of Our Lives should have kept on her; reception was positive, and she did marvelous work. However, given the dire look and state the soap is in, I wouldn’t want her near it.

Scott, aren’t you the detective! I was hopeful for her return to DOOL, but that hairstyle alone is the not Jennifer’s style last time we saw McClain in the role. And I certainly get your point about the current status of DOOL. Whatever show has hired McClain is lucky to have her! Happy New Year!

I hope it’s Days! It’s an unpopular opinion but I like her over Missy Reeves.

I agree. I like Cady in the role of Jennifer

Wholeheartedly agree with you!

Phil…me, too…PERIOD!!!!!

NO, NO, NO!!! Not on DOOL’s!!! Not a good Jennifer and Not a good actress!!

I hope she’s coming back as Jennifer Horton Deveraux. I think DAYS needs more Hortons on the set. The grandparent generation is there, but not the parent generation of Hortons. (And, yes, I know I’m not counting Tom and Alice since they passed away.) Julie, Doug and Maggie are still around; seen every once in a while. But Hope and Jennifer, our mainstays for so long, are gone. Even Lucas just left again. Allie and Johnny, Shawn and Belle, and even the next generation in Ciera and Ben (plus baby), are difficult to identify as Hortons since they spend so little time there and don’t really embody the spirit of the Hortons of old.

Send Jennifer back to us! Have Hope return, too. (If Kristen is down with Hope, let some other talent step in. With only four soaps left, there is an embarrassment of extremely talented actresses who could take on the role.) Bring Mike home with Jennifer, too! And how about Jessica and Marie? Jeremy, Sandy, Julie’s brother, (was it Steve?) and her other grandson, Scotty. All of these could beef up the Horton household.

Just my wish list, I guess; with Cady leading the parade as Jennifer.

Here Ye, Here Ye !!! ^^^^^ “… With only four soaps left, there is an embarrassment of extremely talented actresses who could take on the role. ” that’s just it… a treasure chest trove of ideal actors to step up. I get that at least @Days is trying to canvas the whole cast.. hence ALL the comings and goings.. which should satiate the legion of fan . I hoped this was so… Newbies, don’t know the past , supercouples, they want to watch Ben and Cierra, Jake and Gabs… as the desired demographic… I go with this… just throw in chad and Abs for security… for mine ! Cady McClain muchos gusto , enliven, the horton familial… Herself, jack, Abby, JJ… this was the one time, to RING in Matthew Ashford…. manhood , seal undone.. come to.. you studded… i want sex.. aroused

Please let it be on the set of All My Children/ Pine Valley!! I’ll be happy wherever she is though.

And she’s married to Jon Lindstrom, or Kevin Collins on GH. Seems good acting runs in the family.

She could be on GH as a love interest for Martin Gray her old love on AMC.

Sounds like fun. It would be interesting when Candy and Kevin’s paths might cross on GH if this happened.

She is working “again”, so it is either DOOL or Y&R

Or on Pine Valley in Primetime.

In love the thought that she’s filming the pilot for the Pine Valley primetime series!

Would be fun if it is GH since Cady and Maura were fantastic as Rosanna and Carly on ATWT, and her hubby is also there, as are so many other fantastic actors. But if not, I actually really enjoyed her with Jack on Y and R, until she went psycho. Seems Jack has a pattern on that front, and I have absolutely no desire to see Jack and Phyllis reunite. Not sure why Peter, aka Jack, has been off campus during the holidays (hopefully he is healthy and simply taking a vacation in “NYC”), but with Stitch returning earlier this year, who knows, maybe Kelly is returning. Regardless, she is a powerhouse and fantastic actor, and I am looking forward to her return, wherever it may be.

Here’s hoping she’s playing Jenny Eckert on GH! It would be great to see her on-screen with Jon Lindstrom since they’re married in real life. Jenny is also Luke’s cousin, and with his recent “death” (he’s 100% not dead), it would be neat to see her factor into this story somehow.

Sorry Jimmy – but bite your tongue. As someone who lived through that challenging period in GH history, I hope we never see an Eckerdt on screen again. Even when they occasionally mention the Eckerdt Bakery, my skin starts to crawl.

LMAO!! Ya, that era was not Monty’s best work!! To say the very least!!

Although…the character of Jenny did blossom nicely towards the end! When they have her a nice flattering hairstyle, gave her more personality, and pitted her against Tracy, I really enjoyed her.

It’s not Days or GH as both are still dark this week.

Cady is a fireball, she brings subtle grit and total commitment to all she bites into, and always retains her likeable star aura. I look forward to her next adventure.

It will be great to have her back on any one of the shows. Y&R has been my favorite for a long time, so hope she goes there! Welcome back Cady!

I think she’d be perfect for Jack .Caddy is beautiful, the right age and everything Jack needs in a woman.

I can’t agree on this one, Violet. When Cady played Kelly Andrews years back, Cady and Peter Bergman didn’t click at all, at least not for me. I was hoping she’d be Ashland Locke’s unmentioned sister who could knock Victoria off her high horse. Or something similar. Pray she won’t be ANOTHER long lost Quartermaine on GH!

Soaphound
I see what you’re saying, now that you refreshed my memory. I had forgotten that kook Kelly she played, keeping Jack prisoner on that island. Thinking back, she seemed altogether different than the Cady we all know and love. Yes, the last thing we need is another Q.

Oh see, I did believe Peter Bergman and Cady McClain had some fantastic chemistry. Hell, even in writing my own web serial drama, years prior to McClain joining The Young and the Restless, I wrote my Bergman and McClain characters as spouses.

I would love to see Cady on G.H.; real life husband plays Dr. Kevin Collins on the show. He is married to Lara Collins; I would hate to see them break up though.

I’m hoping she is NOT returning to Y&R. I’ve never been a big fan of McClain. I never watched AMC so I can’t speak to her performance on that show. However, I thought she was a poor recast of Rosanna Cabot on ATWT and didn’t think she was very good as a recast of Kelly on Y&R.

I know that I may be in the minority. McClain has had a long career and a following among viewers. I’m just not one of them. To me, she has little screen presence and I would prefer not to watch her in anything else.

I’m having a major guess at this moment, but maybe she will be on Y and R as Avery Clark. Cady is 52 years old, and Jessica who previously played Avery is 51 years old. Phyllis needs someone on canvas and it doesn’t seem like either Daniel or Summer will be returning to GC anytime soon. Maybe this will allow Nick to have a rekindled romance. I don’t know. Just an idea. Y and R needs to get a major jolt! Especially with Richard Burgi departing.

On Jan. 11 episode of GH, Austin mentioned his mother to Britt….

We will see..

Cady is one year younger than Roger Howarth. Austin’s mother, Charity was already up there in years when she took up with Jimmy Lee. Probably not a character we need to see again on screen.

Perhaps long forgotten Kristin Forrester on B and B?

Hayden on GH?

The go-to recast for Kristen should be Brenda Epperson, who resembles O.G. portrayer, Teri Ann Linn.

GH please. She could play that southern Belle that was Martin Grey’s “the one that got away!”. She could give Lucy some competition and Michael E Knight a chance to play some romantic comedy. I miss his smile and the mischevious glint in his eyes. Let Martin Grey lighten up just a smidge.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
