Tonja Walker Sounds Off on Olivia Jerome’s ‘Death’ on General Hospital: “It Doesn’t Feel Good to Be Disposed With … Even If It’s Just a Character I Created”

Last week, GH viewers learned that Olivia Jerome was reportedly attacked and killed while serving time in Pentonville for her crimes. The news spread through the PCPD after Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) received a phone call on the situation.

Immediately, Jordan (Tanisha Harper) told Anna (Finola Hughes), who has long history with Olivia and not in a good way. Many GH fans believe that the show wouldn’t have dropped Olivia’s name if there wasn’t more to the story to come.

Olivia’s portrayer, Tonja Walker took to her social media account on X after learning the news of the apparent demise of her character, and responded. Tonja expressed,Oh what a rip! I wish we could have actually shot some great story but again, another missed opportunity… unless it’s not. I guess you never know. It wouldn’t be the first time.”

She added,“I’m sad that they apparently killed off Olivia. I love ABC, Disney, (and) that job! Decades I’ve loved working for them. Sending love and good wishes to them all.”

After fans responded to Walker, that they can’t believe that the Olivia is truly a-goner, Tonja shared, “Well, if you see the body, let me know! They’d owe a check! Even (if) it’s AI! … If it’s true, it’s kind of sad.”

Later, another fan asked Walker directly, if she truly thinks Olivia is dead to which the actress replied, “I have zero idea! But it would be fun to see the story and not hear it from the morgue, right?”

In her last tweet on the subject, Tonja shared her disappointment, “This means alot to me. It doesn’t feel good to be disposed with, you know. Even if it’s just a character I created. I loved her especially the real her. The one I was before my brother killed me. The last stint was totally not Olivia, she’d gone way past that.”

Tonja was last seen on-air on General Hospital back in 2017 when it was revealed that the ‘believed-dead” Olivia … was actually alive! Her comeback included ordering the hit that killed Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) when the car he was in exploded, and a deranged plot to resurrect Duke Lavery by kidnapping Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) and Dr. Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen) is Duke’s son. Later, Jerome was arrested, put in a mental institution then the slammer.

So, what do you think about the sentiments shared by Tonja Walker on Olivia’s demise? From her reaction it appears she had not been contacted by GH (as of yet) to reprise the role if indeed the former Jerome crime boss is revealed to be alive. Do you think Olivia will turn up alive? Share your thoughts and theories below.

While it’s nice to see Walker be passionate about the character, she didn’t “create” the role – that was the writers at the time. She did, however, leave a memorable mark with the show bringing her back over 25 years later.

Storywise, didn’t Olivia have a secret or something she was holding over Valentin when she left the canvas the last time? Something he made sure stayed hidden by footing the bill for her lawyer, Nora.

When does the new writing team start? Could these viewer disappointing sudden storyline twist be nothing more than “sudden changes” due to the outgoing head writers?

Supposedly the new head writers material starts airing March 4 when (Spoiler Alert) Jason first appears on camera.

I was speculating if the out going team was doing this “on purpose”. Perhaps the new writing team will do a reset similiar to the season of “Dallas” that was nothing more than Pam’s bad dream.

If it’s true, which it seems to be, I’m not happy about it. These writers have been killing off the villainous vets: Victor Cassadine, Ryan Chamberlain, and now Olivia. Add that to the actors who have unfortunately passed in real life, and we’re running out of vets. I don’t want a “new” show. I want to see the legacy characters, I like to know the door is always open for the past villains to pop in and wreck havoc. Stop erasing GH.

On another note, I’m hoping Victor is still alive and he’ll return one day. I’m thinking he took the antidote and survived (though appeared dead)…

Frank, what’s going on??!!!

You’ve got two legacy portrayer’s Antonio Sabato, Jr and now Tonja Walker expressing disapproval of their character’s directions off screen, so that should tell you that it’s not only the viewers but [and it’s loud and clear] that the portrayer’s are invested in the direction of the show as well.

It’s starting to feel like GH needs a nice refresher [not a reboot like in 2012-2013] to keep things on track.

There’s no way a villainess like Olivia who caused so much trouble in Port Charles would be killed off-screen. I’m not buying this for a second.

Well… look at the ridiculous way they allegedly killed off Luke Spencer. And he was a far more significant character on GH than Olivia Jerome ever was.

I actually liked Olivia in her original run, but that last reboot of the character in 2017 was cartoonish. Trying to resurrect Duke via his son who never even met him??

James, normally I would agree, but this is the same regime that killed Luke Spencer off screen.

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
