TVG Canada reveals pre-pre Daytime Emmy nominee list & we explain the voting process!

Ah, the game is on, and what a tangled web we weave in the soap world! TV Guide Canada’s Nelson Branco today revealed and compiled a list from each of the daytime soap operas of the performers who are now eligible for this year’s Daytime Emmy competition. And, in the first list you will find some big shockeroos! Namely,Van Hansis is not competing from As the World Turns after his final year of amazing performances. Then Y&R newbie, the talented soap veteran, Tristan Rogers is in the lead category, and OLTL’s scene-stealer, Robin Strasser entered herself into supporting group, plus a plethora of other head-scratchers.
On-Air On-Soaps today, after receiving numerous inquiries from our readers and fans, had a direct discussion with NATAS’s Daytime Executive Director, Brent Stanton, who adminsters the Emmy voting process. To clarify: all soaps nominate performers they feel deserving of a nomination in each of the acting categories. However, that does not exclude other actors on the show from also submitting their names on the ballot in the category they deem for themselves, if they feel they have emmy-worthy material to submit.

Then, performers who are registered with NATAS for the Emmy voting process, vote in the acting categories, cross-soap, and it is their votes that determine the pre-nomination ballot which will be announced on February 25th. No reels of the actors work are submitted for viewing in the pre-pre nomination process. Once selected as an official pre-nominee, then those actors will have to submit one show of their work to be judged in the competition.
Stanton also expressed that he did his best to encourage all As the World Turns performers that wanted to take part in the Emmy process this year to do so, even saying he assisted with helping them get the paperwork, etc, in order, since there was no one left at that show anymore, since it’s cancellation last fall.
View the complete list of pre-pre nominees here and then let us know any glaring omissions in your opinion, or who you think deserves a pre-nomination!

On Monday’s episode of ABC’s Strahan & Sara, the show welcomed several stars of the beloved All My Children for a reunion, of sorts. Joining hosts Michael Strahan and Sara Haines were Susan Lucci (Erica), Walt Willey (Jack), Cady McClain (Dixie), Jacob Young (JR) and Jill Larson (Opal).
While it was wonderful to see the stars from Pine Valley again, it was also a painful reminder that this network, ABC, canceled the show, and had put in its place – The Chew, and now Strahan & Sara – since canning the series. In fact, as you will see on the clips below, many of the crew who work on this talk show were once the crew for All My Children.
During the segment, Susan Lucci was tested to see if she remembered all of Erica Kane’s wedded names. Later, Walt Willey and Susan re-created the final scene of the ABC version of All My Children between Erica and Jack, where Jack walks out on her. However, this time, they have Jack changing his mind and coming back to Erica and sealing their relationship with a kiss – a moment of closure that never happened (since the show moved to online via Prospect Park).
In addition, Cady McClain and Jacob Young re-created the infamous Dixie “dying from eating poison pancakes” scene, as JR watches his mother die, only this time she lives.
It’s always great to see these veteran performers, but Strahan & Sara is trying to capture the soap viewers to put eyeballs on their show by bringing in talent from the show that sadly and wrongly went off the air.

This week at the annual ABC TCA (Television Critics Association) Winter Press Tour, the network introduced members of the media to some of the new shows that will be rolled out in the coming months on both ABC and Freeform. Many notables, who started on the soaps, are in the casts of some of the more exciting new offerings.
In addition, several soap graduates, who are currently appearing on the network in major primetime series were also in attendance promoting the ABC line-up of programming.
Look no further than the photo gallery below to see: Bryan Craig, Denye Tonzts, Eric Winter, Sam Page, Eva Longoria, Jason George, Rome Flynn, and a host of others as they step out and pose for some photos.
So, are you excited to see GH alums, Bryan Craig (ex-Morgan), in his new role as Javi on Grand Hotel? Hayley Erin (Ex-Kiki) in her new role on Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists? Check out the gallery, and let us know via the comment section.

Some of your all-time favorites from Pine Valley are getting together to appear on Good Morning America’s re-branded Strahan & Sara ,formerly known as GMA Day.
Make sure to catch the show next Monday, February 11th when hosts Michael Strahan and Sara Haines welcome Susan Lucci (Ex-Erica), Jacob Young (Ex-JR), Cady McClain (Ex-Dixie), Walt Willey (Ex-Jack),and Jill Larson (Ex-Opal). And, you never know who else might pop up and join this group.
Strahan and Sara airs on ABC at 1PMEST/12PMCST weekdays.

Are you missing Pine Valley? Here’s a chance to see some of these enduring stars together again. Most recently, Home & Family back in February of 201,7 held an on-screen reunion for many notables from the series following the passing of its legendary creator, Agnes Nixon.
Will you be checking out Strahan & Sara next week for the segment? Let us know via the comment section below.

Thank you for the clarification Miichael.
Thank you.
Thanks Michael. Love that ESS is in the mix but sad that Van didn’t submit himself.
I love Eric but my heart belongs to Van.He deserved an Emmy this year.I could cry that he was not submitted. No body was as consistently good as Van !!!!!
I disagree. Eric was AT LEAST as good as Van.
Thank you, Michael, for explaining that real complicated process of the Emmy pre-pre-, pre- and just noms procedure 🙂 .
I´m really happy to see Eric Sheffer Stevens on the list 🙂 . I want him to win an Emmy. His performance was just too remarkable to go without a special honor.
Van Hansis deserves an Emmy more than everyone else! His emotional scenes were so wonderfully gut-wrenching!
Eric deserves an Emmy more than anyone else. Without him a lot of people wouldn´t even have watched this soap. Van didn´t submit himself, so actually the thing is eaten. Tell Van, how disappointed you are. I f.e. can´t change a thing.
It is a total shame that Van Hansis isn’t included in that list! I am sure he didn’t submit his work, God knows why. I am totally sad that Van Hansis won’t be, AGAIN, recognized for his amazing work!
OMG Van Hansis not submitting his work or having it submitted is so sad. This should have been his year to win an emmy.Michael , can you please find out why?I was and am a LuRe fan and while I loved them both as a couple and admired both of their acting skills ,Reid could not stand alone whereas Luke could.Van is such a wonderful actor and he’s so real.I hope he’s not frustrated with ATWT going off and trying to find a decent job.It must be so tough for him.Van if you read this please know so many of your fans love and miss you.You deserve an Emmy and deserve to be appreciated for last years work!We love you!!!!
So now it begins … . Reid could have totally stood alone, he actually most of the time did. It´s not Eric´s fault, that Van didn´t submit himself. Eric totally deserves to be nominated.
I love Eric and he is deserving too, but in my mind Van should win this year. Why he didn’t submit is a mystery to me.He had so many good scenes , especially when Reid died and he was so devastated!!!
mmc, I totally agree with you. Van deserves to win en Emmy. I don’t understand why he didn’t submit his work. He was so consistent and in several episodes, he was more than perfect!
Van is a good actor, and of course he deserved to be nominated, BUT he didn´t submit himself. Maybe he would have been nominated in another category anyway, I don´t know about the choices, who is “leading” and who is “supporting” actor etc..
But I want Eric to win his more than deserved Emmy.
Ducourage read what i posted on the bottom of this page.Believe me, I’m still crying.what a wonderful man van is, there’s no one better!
mmc- Van posted his reasoning on his Facebook page. It was his decision.
It´s good, that this is a big world with billions of different opinions … .
Eric (Sheffer Stevens), you are the best. Go and get your Emmy 🙂 . You are the most brilliant actor I have ever seen. You didn´t play ‘Reid’, you were ‘Reid’.
As a viewer who’s witnessed countless Emmy snubs and wins over the past 30+ years all I have to say is it’s astonishing to find Brandon Buddy from One Life To Live absent from the nomination list, while a few talentless newbies entered themselves into the race. Guy is crazy if he didn’t submit material from his last days! He did an impeccable job. I would have hoped someone would have acknowledged that behind the scenes over there. Hate or love his character, Brandon Buddy has grown so much over the years as an actor and he deserved a nod. His final scenes left me bawling! Emmy or not, the guy is a winner in my book!
I’m really happy for Eric Sheffer Stevens, he definitely deserves to be nominated. But I can’t believe Van Hansis isn’t on the list. He was incredible this past year, especially when Reid died. I don’t know how this all works, but I’m really scratching my head about Van.
What the hell!! Galen Gering as Lead actor Really!!!! He’s Ok but NOT Emmy -worthy material. I’m happy about James Scott , John Aniston & Peter .
My son just sent me some E mails with statements from Van Hansis as to why he didn’t submit an Emmy. They were on his facebook. He seems to be ok with not submitting.even though those of us that love him know this should have been his year to win, we have to respect his choice. Go to lovelures board and she wrote the same info my son sent me.I really feel sad because his acting was more than good, it was excellent. When you read what he posted you’ll not only love him as an actor but more than that you’ll see what a gracious and remarkable man he is.Oh how i love him!!!!!
Even though I respect so much what he had to say , I think it can’t hurt to have a nomination and hopefully a win.I hope he’s not making a big mistake by not submitting.2010 was his best year ….it doesn’t make sense to me and i feel really sad about it!
I remain very frustrated with these awards. Thank you for explaining the process for us. Personally, sometimes I scratch my heads on why some people are nominated over and others and win. For example, I think Kirstin Storms is the most talented in the young actresses category on GH in my opinion– remember her heartbreaking scene at Georgie’s funeral a few years ago when she verbally attacked Felicia? Bravo! Did she get an award? No. Kimberly McCullough should have been nominated for her post partum depression story and she wasn’t. I think she deserves to win this year for the reveal of Patrick cheating – as should Jason Thompson for that story as well. I bet you they won’t win. I like Julie Berman, but do I think her performances are award worthy? No. It seems more like a popularity contest to me, especially since they don’t evaluate reels for the pre-nomination process. And, don’t get me started on why Michael Easton is not on this list….he gives understated, natural performances– a.k.a. great acting– not over-acting and he’s ignored. Melissa Archer is a natural– one of the best actresses on OLTL and her performances during this pregnancy story line as well as the stalker/Mitch/Jared death story was phenomenal. It’s things like this that won’t let me take this award seriously anymore.
Honestly I thought Van Hansis did better work during Luke’s coming out storyline. He should’ve won the Emmy back then.
Good luck, ESS. You’re going to need it.
I can’t believe OLTL’s options. Gina Tognoni in lead? She has had almost nothing to do since her return. I adore her and she should get an award every year just for being on tv, but not a lead actress nomination this year. OLTL should get it together and help her get one next year. Their best bet is Florencia Lozano. It gets scary at supporting actor. Does Sean Ringold really think he is going to get nominated? And what about Shenelle Edmonds? She is adorable…but still seems so unnatural. Even worse……David Gregory for outstanding younger actor? He is just eye candy and is pushing “younger”. OLTL’s best bets for noms are again Florencia Lozano, Robin Strasser (supporting), Brian Kerwin, Kristen Alderson, Matthew Alderson, and Jerry VerDorn. Farah Fath had fantastic scenes early in the year when Stacy fell through the ice, but there has been such an unfair backlash against her character. She could surprise everyone. Supporting and younger actress categories are historically wacky and awarded to very questionably deserving actresses.
Will someone explain to me why Nic Robuck, Farah Fath and David Gregory bothered to submit themselves? Parading around in the buff is not Emmy worthy nor does it constitute as acting! OLTL’s younger set is far from perfect but Nic is by far the show’s weakest link. My 6 year old can cry on command in a far more believable manor than he can. Eddie Alderson is fantastic, he’ll make the cut. That kid will go far. Jason Tam was another fantastic performer (his talents go way beyond Daytime) but of course this show loves to throw away the perfectly talented bunch and cast the less talented Hunks in their place. I was expecting Brandon Buddy on this list. He’s another strong talent who shined phenomenally this year. After Brandon’s previous snub (detox era) he surely deserved recognition for his work this year. The phrase “knocking it out of the ball park” would come as an understatement for what his final month of scenes were. Certainly a loss for OLTL, the show has not been the same without him. Melissa deserves to make the cut, she put out some of her best work this year. Haskell, I have no doubt will make it past the pre-nom process as she’s always been an outstanding performer, one of the best in the Daytime. Happy to see Strasser’s name once again!
Completely forgot about Farah Fath’s work with Stacy on Ice. Definitely see why she submitted her name now. She did a phenomenal job with that particular storyline.
I think Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson did amazing work this year with what was certainly a difficult storyline to perform. What astounds me is that Brianna Brown who portrays likely the most despised character on the canvas is also considered in the same category as Kimberly, who gave the performances of her career. While Brown did okay work in this storyline, it was nowhere close to what Kimberly performed. I hope the daytime Emmy committee realizes that Brown’s performances were nowhere close to the work of the other actors in this category and eliminates her from the final ballot.
I absolutely agree. Jason Thompson & Kimberly Mccullough gave a stellar performances. They both deserve nominations.
Brianna Brown doesn’t deserve to be in any Emmy category. She is mediocre at best.
Brianna Brown? Is this a joke? How much talent does it take to repeatedly say “ok” or “alright” and smirk like an idiot?
I see there is a little Van vs. Eric grumbling on here. I love both of them and give them props on their amazing acting skills. But Eric has nothing to do with Van’s decision, and it WAS Van’s decision. He has stated his reasoning, and I repect him for that. He also said on his FB page that he thought Eric would win. I am assuming they are each OK with their decisions. I would love to see Eric win. I would say, instead of pitting them against each other and saying one could stand on his own and the other couldn’t (which is disrespectful to both), that it is more like the two of them together played very well off each other, bringing their performances to an even higher level.
And saying, “Good luck, ESS. You’ll need it” is juvenile and petulant. If you were a fan of ATWT, you should be rooting for all their actors, because they all deserve it.
Then there’s Trent Dawson who was absolutely amazing in both 2009 and 2010.
