Tyra Banks Named New Host and Executive Producer of ‘Dancing with the Stars’
On the heels of the departures of Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews as hosts of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, comes word of just who the new host will be!
That gig is going to none other than former America’s Top Model host. Tyra Banks, who will also serve as the ballroom-dance competition’s executive producer for its upcoming 29th season set to air later this fall.
DWTS is watching very closely the coronavirus pandemic of just how and when they can begin production and how the show will look.
With the pick of Banks to helm the show, ABC said that the team is planning to refresh the format, while “honoring the show America loves”. DWTS is produced by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm, alongside Andrew Llinares.
In a statement, Tyra Banks expressed: “I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning. The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances, it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk. Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”
Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment shared: “Tom has been an integral part of the ABC family for nearly two decades, from hosting AFV to Dancing with the Stars – we are grateful for all he and Erin have done to make Dancing a success. As we gear up for the show’s 29th season, we can’t wait to welcome Tyra Banks to our Dancing stage. Tyra is an award-winning multi-hyphenate whose fierce female prowess and influence across many industries have made an indelible mark. Her fresh take on America’s favorite dancing competition will surely bring more than a ‘Smize’ to fans everywhere.”
Valerie Bruce, general manager, LA Productions, BBC Studios, added, “Tyra Banks is an icon whose powerful presence, trademark confidence, and industry-leading achievements inspire us. We are proud to partner with ABC to welcome her as the new host of Dancing with the Stars. This represents a landmark moment in our 28 seasons producing Dancing with the Stars as we take this iconic show in a new creative direction. We offer our sincere thanks to Tom and Erin, whom we will always consider part of the Dancing with the Stars family.”
So, what do you think of Tyra as the new host and EP of Dancing with the Stars? How will she liven up the format of the show? Comment below.
Tom Bergeron was the main reason to watch the show, especially since they have so few actual “stars” on it anymore. Who are these contestants? Tyra Banks = ugh! No reason for me to watch now; and one very big reason to not tune in.
Big big mistake, Tom made the show what is is. Won’t be the same at all. A big fail now. I’m sad as it is my favourite show Look forward to watch each week. I may now give it a pass . Will miss Tom & Erin
OMG! Well, I for sure have watched my last DWTS! I don’t understand why they dumped Tom Bergeron . He was excellent at that job…so quick-witted, and came up with the best comments at the drop of the hat.
Tyra? Really??
I’ve always found her to be a bit nauseating!
Big mistake. I guess they’re trying to change things up. I am not going to watch.
Tyra said she’s proud to be the first black host on DWTS. Lisa Canning, I haven’t forgotten about you! Tyra needs a history lesson.
Dancing with the Stars (2005) one season co-host
“Thanks” this should be noted
What did Tom and Erin do to be replaced? I know this, if these two talented TV hosts were black and replaced by two white people, there would be hell to pay! Tom IS the show. BIG mistake!
^^^ THIS ! “…Tom IS the show”
w/his humor… sly : it was easy to overlook the cheese
oh wait ; the men need to undress
This show should’ve been put out to pasture about 3 years ago.
No interested in dwts anymore..bad choice
when did Tyra… Ms. “BANKS” get a sense of humor ? a requirement for this sparkly doowop
turn off
when she sashayed off her America Top Model. we thought isn’t she tired
Victoria Secrets can call
They’d have done better putting out a seniors edition of Dancing With the Stars – No contestants under 50. It was always so unfair to put the older contestants against the young kids. What older contestants give up in athleticism they would make up with creativity and a sense of romance. They could always bring Tom back to host it. Tyra Banks is an interesting choice as the next host. If they wanted a black female host I’d have gone for Vanessa Williams who actually trained as a ballroom dancer. But I wish Tyra and the show the best.
Dancing … will always be a FREE form of self expression.. you had to will yourself get up and do
this stance just took a bite out of
gawd.. high school doowop !!! that open of asking someone to share
@ABC / Disney / DWT STAR ??? the glitter just took a hit
anyway… sorry.. this is not on any one post… how hurt is it to take another shared show and make a dent on thought ??? I enjoyed this with you.. gawd… for crimony sake… i don’t dissect every thing
Really
There’s a two-word answer as to why Tom and Erin were fired: They’re white!
ABC is proving itself racist now. I’m sad to say that I won’t be watching DWTS ever again.
Tom was probably let go because he had Tweeted out that he thought having Sean Spicer on the show was a bad idea. I haven’t really watched the show in ages but from her volatile reputation I don’t see Tyra Banks as a good choice.
There’s been at least one right wing political hack on every season, and Hell knows they weren’t chosen for their dancing abilities.
If Tyra Banks puts an end to that practice, then God bless her.
And believe me, a Devil doesn’t use words like that very often!
Tyra Banks will undoubtedly have zero input into who the contestants are, Satan, just as Tom did, and I doubt any contestant, right-wing, left-wing, no-wing, whatever, is chosen with his or her dancing abilities in mind, or at least as the primary motivation. I suppose in one sense I can’t blame the show’s producers for inviting people like Sean Spicer and Bristol Palin, because they apparently do draw ratings–but the last few seasons it has seemed that that’s about ALL the show was trying to offer viewers, and I’ve lost a lot of interest, because the wing-nutters certainly never were a draw for me.
Tom B.’s departure is the last straw. I might have overlooked it had he departed on his own, but he really was one of the few reasons left to watch. His departure message was classy, and I was pleased to see that he took the high road, although it is better than his bosses deserved.
I’m lol, I only saw season one because it had Kelly Monaco, and it was new in the summer and short and yes Kelly totally deserved to win. I haven’t watch since its to corny with the back stories and just to long and not my thing, so its not a big deal to me, but I’m lol because I can totally see Tyra turning a dance show into a runway modeling show, everything she does she thinks it involves modeling or smizing, so I’ll watch the highlights on shows like gma and E.T, not investing my time, no thank you.
Well at least they didn’t choose Mickey Mouse, which I thought ABCDisney might. I will only check it out if absolutely nothing else was on, but this show Tom or no Tom jumped the shark long time ago.
I won’t be watching DWTS anymore. Even when the celebrities were people I didn’t know or care for, Tom Bergeron made you laugh. What is he going to do now? Does Tyra Banks care? She’s the executive producer she could have said something to help them.
Firing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews from DWTS was bad enough…hiring that ANNOYING DIVA Tyra Banks as both the new host and the new Executive Producer is an EVEN WORSER IDEA!!!!! I see nothing but TOTAL DISASTER written all over this!!!!! Beyond yuck.
Later.
Did not like her on AGT.. Who thinks she makes a good host?

‘Days of Our Lives’ Officially Confirms Ryan Quan Returning as Co-Head Writer Beginning in July
There is definitely a shake-up going down at the writing team at Peacock’s Days of Our Lives. Now, the long-running soap opera has confirmed, what has been previously reported, that current General Hospital breakdown writer, Ryan Quan is heading back to his old stomping grounds in Salem. This time as the series co-head writer.
The appointment of Quan comes with the official news that current co-head writer, Paula Cwikly, who was previously rumored to be departing the series, is not. She is staying with the soap opera and transitioning to a consultant role with the show. Now, Quan will join current co-head writer, Jeanne Marie Ford to steer the ship for the characters on the canvas.
On Wednesday, TV Insider, reported the official confirmation and that Quan will return to DAYS next month in July. THE FUTURE OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES
Since Days of our Lives unusual production schedule tapes ten-months ahead of air, the new creative team’s vision led by Quan and Jeanne Marie Ford are not expected to stream on Peacock until mid-2027.
Days of Our Lives is currently renewed through its 63rd season. The former NBC soap opera which transitioned to Peacock in September of 2022, celebrate its 60th anniversary in November of 2025.
The writing regime change comes after NBCUniversal Media Chairman Matt Strauss revealed that Peacock is expected to turn a profit for the first time in the current quarter, punctuating their investment with the enduring soap opera on its platform.
As for Quan, his knowledge of Salem is tremendous. Ryan joined Days of Our Lives as a writer’s assistant in 2007 after some time over at Passions. He then spent two decades and held every position on the writing team where he previously served as co-head writer from 2016-17 alongside Dena Higley.
Later, when Ron Carlivati took over as head writer for 7 years in 2017, Quan became his right-hand man and main story consultant for his deep knowledge of the history and the legacy of the show. After Carlivati exited the show in 2024, General Hospital hired Quan in 2025.
So, what do you think about DAYS making it official with Ryan Quan as the new co-head writer of the series alongside Jeanne Marie Ford. What do you think about the fact we won’t see the changes on-screen till 2027? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

ABC Announces ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Texas Spin-Off Gets Straight-to-Series Order
In a surprise move, coming a week after ABC unveiled its 2026-2027 fall television schedule, Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff co-created by the original series’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
The new untitled medical drama will be written and executive produced by Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis under the Shondaland and 20th Television umbrella. In addition, long-running ‘Grey’s’ star Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an EP of the spinoff.
The upcoming new series will debut midseason in 2027. This will be the first of Grey’s franchise not set in urban city or West Coast locale. According to Deadline, the new “edgy drama is about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

In a statement, Marinis shared, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
A NEW GROUP OF DOCTORS IN RURAL TEXAS
The Texas spinoff will feature a a new group of doctors, but there will be some connection to the OG Grey’s Anatomy and possibly to Debbie Allen’s character of Catherine Fox. The amount of episodes in the series order has not yet been determined. Previous Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs were the defunct Station 19 and Private Practice.
Previously, Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its upcoming 23rd season while the amount of episodes is unclear. The last two seasons the series produced 18 episodes.
It should also be noted, Grey’s Anatomy and the Texas spinoff would likely share a time period, which requires limited-run orders for both with Grey’s premiering in the fall, followed by the spinoff on the midseason programming block.
So, what do you think about a Texas spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy coming in 2027? Who would you like to see from daytime or primetime as some of the featured roles as new doctors? Put on your casting directors hat and let us know via the comment section below.
