On-Air On-Soaps caught up with The Young and the Restless Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) backstage in the press area at the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards last week.  During the conversation, Melody reiterated to fans her comments on twitter, which stem from the fact that the talented soap icon had not received any scripts for months after her last tape day which was April 28th.

Thomas Scott also commented that no one from the series had reached out to her to let her know what was going on with her future with the number one soap. This all came on the heels of a front-burner story which had a boozin’ Nikki finally sent back to rehab!

Meanwhile at the Emmys, Y&R’s  executive producer and head writer, Maria Arena Bell told members of the press regarding Melody’s status with the show, “Melody is phenomenal. Of course she will be with the show again.  She’s in a storyline where she left town but she will be back.  We love Melody.  She’s one of the hearts and souls of Young and the Restless.  Don’t be worried.  She will be back.” However at the time of this interview, Melody still had not gotten any official confirmation that she would be returning and no one had told anything to her, personally.

Michael, what a treat to see and hear Melody and how upset she is over the stall in her story, Nobody has even contacted her. That is outrageous. We are all waiting for her return and to see her and Victor reunited, if that is what is supposed to happen. She looks great, though and you were so compassionate to her, Nice job and what a coup.

From what I can gather, it sounds like MTS is no longer on contract at Y&R. If this is true, she’s in the same position as Tracey Bregmann. Y&R will contact her when they need her.

That said. Welcome to 21st Century Corporate America. People are disposable. We’re just cogs in the machine. Respect for the individual means very little. Time and time again, we’ve seen TV executives lie to cast, crew and audience members.

Sadly, in this age, people have to get it in through their heads that there is no such thing as company loyalty. It doesn’t matter how long or hard one works for a company. The company doesn’t care about you and will flush you away like used toilet paper when it has no further use for you.

Given this fact, it’s probably time for MTS to look elsewhere. Why not take her show on the road and audition for a juicy role on primetime? What about a role overseas? Aren’t there independent movies she join? Why not partner with Crystal Chappell?

Michael, thanks for the interview everyone knows I think she should have gotten a nomination and the emmy this year for LEAD ACTRESS 32 years! Some people go to work and do their job and they don’t lobby she is one of them. My next question is how awkward when her husband is working for B&B. How weird! Bring her back as much as I loved Genie Francis on GH I just am not getting her on this show, so bring back Melody!!!

I completely agree, bring back Melody. Genie Francis in this role on Y&R just does not interest me either. Also, we are so tired of Cloe, she should be let go, no interest in her whatsoever, I fast forward when she and Abby come on.

Her story was getting so good with the alcoholism and things… Just think of all the good story that could have been had between Nicki and Diane. I think the cane storyline is unbelievble and not that interesting…

I understand that she is the highest paid actress on the show. Of course, in this day and age, they are going to use her as little as possible. I don’t buy her story entirely. Too many people are unemployed and budget cuts are being made. I like her, I think she’s Great…but I don’t think the show will die without her. Too many stories with too many other working people who make less. I would be fine if Victor joined her…Life Goes On!

I have always loved Melody Thomas Scott, she is a great actress and a true beauty. She and Eric Braeden are pure magic together in front of the camera, in my opinion they have made the show what it has become, they are both amazing stars. I do not understand why the powers that be at Y&R are treating Melody in this disrespectful manor. I did hear however that she has asked for more money per show, don’t know if that is true or not. The wonderful scene that she did at the A. A.meeting on Y&R was first rate acting. I would be sad if she has to leave the show, but if Eric Braeden ever left, that would be a real tragedy for everyone.

GH’s Maurice Benard Memoir ‘Nothing General About It’ Goes Nationwide Today

Today is the day! After months of fans eagerly awaiting the nationwide release of two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Maurice Benard’s (Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital) moving and insightful memoir, it’s finally available in book stores and online everywhere.

According to the publisher HarperCollins: The memoir Nothing General About It, looks back to Maurice’s youth in a small town and his tenuous relationship with his father. He describes how his bipolar disorder began to surface in childhood, how he struggled to understand the jolting mood swings he experienced, and how a doctor finally saved his life. For years Maurice was relentless in his goal to be a successful actor. But even after he “made it,” he still grappled with terrifying lows, breakdowns, and setbacks, all while trying desperately to maintain his relationship with his wife, who endured his violent, unpredictable episodes. Maurice holds nothing back as he bravely talks about what it was like to be medicated and institutionalized, and of how he learned to manage his manic episodes while on the set of GH.

Nothing General About It is also an incredible love story about an enduring marriage that demonstrates what those vows—for better, for worse, in sickness and in health—truly mean. Maurice also pays tribute to the community that has been there for him through thick and thin, and ruminates on the importance of both inherited and created family.  A shocking, riveting, and utterly candid memoir of love, adversity, and ultimately hope, Nothing General About It offers insights and advice for everyone trying to cope with mental illness, and is a motivational story that offers lessons in perseverance—of the importance of believing in and fighting for yourself through the darkest times.  Nothing General About It includes a 16-page insert featuring approximately 50 photographs.”

Popstar! TV! Serves Up A Twist For Daytime Emmy Digital Drama Series Competition With ‘Evil Touch’ & ‘Death Squad’

This year the 47th annual Daytime Emmys competition features a crowded and mostly dramatic field of contenders in the burgeoning Outstanding Digital Drama Series category.  Over the years, this category has featured digital series that feature notable stars past or present from your favorite daytime dramas over the years from The Bay to After Forever.

Now comes two offerings and contenders from Associated Television International that are certainly not the usual suspects one would come to expect when voting for the different series in the running … for they have a significant horror-genre, superhero, or even one might say CW-type series bent to them. Both series have made it through into the Daytime Emmy blue ribbon round of voting.

Both Evil Touch and Death Squad are the series that are competing in the Outstanding Digital Drama Series and Outstanding Directing Team for a Digital Drama Series categories.  The shows both are seen exclusively on Popstar! TV – the only independent digital network producing original dramas.

But wait! When delving into the cast of Evil Touch we found some familiar faces to daytime!  Featured in it are: Daniel Covin (Ex-Hunter – Prospect Park’s All My Children reboot), Alicia Leigh Willis (Ex- Courtney, General Hospital, and Erik Fellows (Ex- Days and currently Damian in The Bay ).

Evil Touch is a horror -genre fish-out-of-water story with a demonic possession angle. It begins with a group of students from a small American college on a religious studies tour with their professor when they become stranded in the middle of nowhere. Seeking help in the village, they soon discover that there is something very strange and menacing about this place and its inhabitants. Before they know it, they find themselves captives and they learn that the villagers aren’t the only threat.

As for Death Squad that is in-line with some of the recent popular zombie series  ( i.e. Walking Dead) that have become so popular these days.  In it, members of a team of private contractors, all former soldiers who served together in Iraq are hired by a shadowy businessman to go into a former Soviet bio-weapons lab that has been re-purposed for advanced research and development. The team has few details when they enter the facility and begin searching for the lead scientist. Viewers quickly learn that something went very wrong in the lab, and as it turns out, it’s biggest threat is that most of the lab workers have been turned into the living dead.

Clearly, these two shows are vastly different from the love stories, familial dramas and relationship-driven types of fare that often compete in the digital drama categories at the Daytime Emmys.  Since they both have made into the blue-ribbon round; is it further proof that daytime and digital television is getting on-board with the horror genre, too?
