In honor of Days of our Lives 45th anniversary celebration, On-Air On-Soaps continues it’s week long fan voting polls leading up to this coming Saturday’s November 6th, A DAYS OF DAYS event with the cast. On-Air On-Soaps will be on hand at the annual press and fan fest taping video interviews with all your Salem favorites, and during our time with the stars we will announce to them and for the first time, the chosen winners as picked by you, their loyal viewing audience, in several fun categories. And yes, your picks will receive the DAYS 45/On-Air On-Soaps Gold Medal for a keepsake. Think of this as the voting Olympics for die-hard or even the most casual DAYS fan.
Here’s the rules and all you have to do. To clarify, you may only vote once in each category from the same computer. You can vote all the way up until Friday night, November 5th at 10PM PST when the polls close.
Today’s new categories are: Best Overall Performance by an Actor, Favorite Doctor, and Favorite Veteran Performer. About these nominations: Best Overall Performance by an Actor selections are based from the calendar year of November 1, 2009 to November 1, 2010 – in other words from DAYS 44th anniversary calendar year to their 45th. It is for the actor’s body of work during the eligibility period described above, not for one single performance in a storyline. Favorite Doctor – Salem is now filled with a bunch of physicians! Who would you choose to be your doctor from our nominees? Think, bedside manner, if they have made important diagnosis or saved lives in surgery, and if you think they are trustworthy and that you could confide in them. Much to think about! Favorite Veteran Performer selections represent those fantastic actor and actresses who are still on the soap, who have been part of the DAYS canvas for decades, and who without them the historical perspective of DAYS would not be complete. We honor them here.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Favorites Making Returns: Alison Sweeney, Christie Clark, Chandler Massey and Bryan Dattilo
Great news for Days of Our Lives fans, now that Ryan Quan is co-head writer of the long-running soap opera. Coming in June of 2027 (since DAYS tapes ten or so months ahead), you can look forward to the returns of Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Horton).
The foursome is back on set and began last week to tape their upcoming story arc, according to TV Insider. As to what exactly is going on that brings sister Sami and Carrie’s history back up, as well as Will and Lucas’ is only being teased at this time, but suffice to say, it should be intriguing.
Alison Sweeney explained on being back on set, “It was a lot of dialogue and emotion, but with all the best actors to work opposite, we fell into it as if no time had passed. It was really wonderful.”

As to working with the longstanding rivalry of Sami and Carrie, Alison added on working with Clark, “So, it really does feel like we’re sisters. It’s so fun, and she’s such a good actor that she makes everything so natural that you can really disappear into those stories.”
JUST LIKE OLD TIMES
It also seems like the deep-history, which often had the sister fighting for the love of Austin Reed, but that might not figure into the equation this time, or will it?
Alison indicated what she thought of the scripts she was given. “I felt like when I read it, it was a page-turner. I was very excited. There’s a lot of history here, and a lot of things that haven’t been said. So, it’s really not like, ‘Oh, rehashing stuff.’ And now having played some of the scenes, I’m psyched.” Sweeney added, as for the men, working again with her on-screen son, Chandler Massey and Will’s on-screen father Bryan Dattilo, was also extra special.
The last time DAYS viewers saw Sami on the canvas was back in November of 2025, when she revealed she has gotten engaged to never-before-seen Dante Vitali. As for Clark, she last visited Salem for the episodes surrounding John Black’s memorial in June of 2025.
Chandler Massey’s Will Horton last made a visit to Salem in November of 2025 when he attended the gala for the Tom Horton Free Clinic as part of the soap opera’s 60th anniversary celebration. Bryan Dattilo was last seen in December of 2025. So, by the time we see all four again it will be close to two years since they were on new episodes of the series. Time to look forward to June of 2027.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Alum Al Calderon Talks On His Daytime Emmy-Nominated Scenes as Javi Hernandez (Exclusive)
Last Tuesday, Al Calderon scored the first Emmy nomination of his career for his role as Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives.
Calderon name was announced as one of the performers competing for gold in the Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series category at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30.
This week, Calderon chatted live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel for a one-on-one conversation where he discussed: his nominated scenes and time on the Peacock streaming soap opera, his decision to leave DAYS, his role of Nico Silva on Brilliant Minds and its sad cancellation, plus his passing the torch of Javi to Jacob Martinez, who took over the role on-screen on the June 30, 2026 episode of Days of Our Lives.

JAVI REVEALS TO LEO THAT HE HAD A DAUGHTER WHO DIED
Al revealed the scenes that comprise his now Emmy-nominated reel have at its epicenter the heartbreaking moments from the September 12, 2025 episode. In it, Javi shares for the first time to Leo (Greg Rikaart) that he had a daughter named Solana, with a woman he was seeing named Sylvia. One fateful day, Sylvia left their child in a car when she went to work and the little girl died. Javi had blamed himself for not being the parent to take his daughter to school that day since he was hungover the night before, therefore it opened up the opportunity for something to happen to the his child, and it did.
The multi-talented actor/singer explained his reel: “It was the scene where he is talking about his daughter to Leo. I also included the scene where Javi goes to talk to Melinda (Tina Huang) and to see if it would be a viable option to adopt, because I wanted to introduce the subtlety and nuance of why Javi kind of has this whole connection to Tesoro, in a way.”
It is true that Al can bring the tears and make us cry right along with him during his run as Javi. To that, Calderon added, “I’ve read the comments that I’m a little bit of a crybaby, so I didn’t want the entire reel to be of me crying, but I wanted it to show a little bit of an emotional range of the restraint that Javi was feeling so I included that scene
In addition Calderon shared, “I also included a really beautiful scene with Cherie Jimenez (Gabi Hernandez, DAYS) where I’m looking at photos of Tesoro, and of course, Javi is crying. I just wanted to show the relationship between Javi and his family as well, and as I mentioned the reveal of the child that he lost.”

ALUMS AL CALDERON AND ALICE HALSEY REPRESENT DAYS OF OUR LIVES IN EMERGING TALENT CATEGORY
In a twist of fate, Calderon is also nominated in the Emerging Talent category with Alice Halsey who played Rachel Black. Halsey is currently starring in the reboot of Little House on the Prairie in the lead role of Laura Ingalls on Netflix.
As to his hope on Emmy night, Al expressed, “Of course, I want to win, but Alice Halsey is going to give me a run for the money. And if’s not me (who wins the award), it better be her!”

Emily O’Brien Talks On Her Y&R Past as Jana Hawkes and Working with Peter Porte on ‘Days of Our Lives’
On the latest edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped on Tuesday, July 21, Emily O’Brien is the featured guest. As soap fans know, Emily has worked with Rikaart both in her first soap role on The Young and the Restless as Jana Hawkes and now on Days of Our Lives in her current role of Gwen Rizczech.
While Emily continues on DAYS, she has very impressive list of credits in the other part of her career as a voice-over actress and one in motion-capture in some of the most popular video games in the world.
O’Brien was first seen on The Young and the Restless back in 2006. She recalled her landing the role which eventually paired her for her five year run with Greg Rikaart.

BEING CAST ON THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
“The role was just a few days and she wasn’t even supposed to be English,” Emily recalled. “The role was originally called Jade. Karen Rae, the casting director of The Young and the Restless at the time said to me “Oh, you’re from England. Try it with the dialect.” I put it on and she said, ‘I’m going to bring you back at like 3 for s callback.’ So then they changed the role to Jana and they said she’s going to be a Brit. I was only supposed to be on for like five episodes and it turned into 5 years.”
In explaining why she loved crazy Jana, Emily shared, “Jana was sort of like the misanthrope. She was just was the odd one out and I loved it. I felt so comfortable playing that because she was just eclectic and weird and she loved playing with Ouija boards and she rode a motorbike. There was just so much color to bring to her. It was just such a great match to play with Greg (Kevin), and Christian LeBlanc (Michael) and Tracey Bregman (Lauren).

GWEN, DIMITRI AND LEO ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES
On Days of Our Lives, the Leo, Gwen, Dimitri dynamic is quite unique and been through many schemes and entanglements. Often Emily finds herself in repartee with her ex-lover, Dimitri, who turned out to be gay and then had a thing for her bestie, Leo (Greg Rikaart)!
During the conversation, Greg and Emily sang, Peter Porte’s praised with O’Brien expressing, “Peter is just ready to play. He comes on set prepared. I’ve never seen him with his script. From blocking and rehearsals, he doesn’t have it. He’s prepared. He’s a physical actor and he always trying to come up with something. I think he let me slap him. He let me kiss him. He let me throw a cheeseburger in his lap. He’s ready for anything for anything.”

Bring back Blondes and Shenanigans. Bring on Nicolas Coster as Justin’s long lost dad and get him together with Louise Sorel ( Vivian). Add family, social storylines, love and humor Please LOL!!!!! Oh yes and have Hope find out that Julie is her Mother. Not even Doug knew. Only Alice, Adie and Alice knew. That would be a great storyline.

Yes, please and thank you – other than Julie being Hope’s mother. That would destroy the memory of Addie, and the Horton legacy is already sorely missing from this show.
Bring back Bill (the guy who played him for Alice’s funeral was a good casting choice), get anyone other than Jamie for Laura; there is also Tommy, Sandy, Julie’s brother Steven; the list of missing Horton’s goes on and on.
Bring back Liz! Gloria Loring is a wonderful actress and this 45-year viewer misses her on the show.
I have been watching this show since I was little in the early 70’s(Yes I am showing my age lol.) The show was centered around the Hortons. It was so beautifully written. It was about family, social storylines, love, romance and it had humor.
The show is a shell of what it used to be. There are so many actors who are on it now who stink. Their characters have no soul. It is also hard to see Kayla, Justin and Adrienne wasted. It has become a show about blackmail, secrets, paternity test Oh ya and the Dimeras.
The only bright light is Maggie and Victor. They are sweet and cute together.
When Alice was dying and the family came back to say their goodbyes it was so meaningful, heartwarming and so sad. It was the well written, acted and meaningful show that I grew up watching.
HRMitchell so nice to see someone who remembers Days the way I do and who knows what a glorious show it once was. It is also great to see someone who remembers Julie’s brother(played by Stephen Schnetzer .) Do you remember when Marlena and Don’s son DJ died of crib death? I was little when I saw it.I remember it so well. I saw again on Youtube. Still Heartbreaking.

If Days was produced the way it was 30 years ago the ratings would be amazing.
All the soaps have forgotten about their history. They all need to get back to basics, great writing, and hire actors and actresses who can act not just those who look good.
Actually this soap is about the Horton granted (i also want more Horton to come back) but ONE family doesn’t make this show. There are THREE powerful families since years who have built this show. They are the Horton of course but also the Brady and the Dimera and let’s not forget the Kiriakis which are important also in their own way. So we can have the Horton and the Dimera, we can have a show about family, social storylines, romance AND drama, blackmails, secrets in order to give conflicts, to be exiting and entertaining…sorry i don’t want to watch “the little house in the prairie”, i don’t want to be bored otherwise i stop watching so i want all the package with above all character driven storylines..and that it is up to the writers who right now are quite incompetent IMO.
I am not saying the show should be Little House LOL!!! I am also not saying the Horton’s should be the only family. The show was created with the Hortons, something Mr. Corday and the writers have forgotten.
The show has lost its heart. Yes blackmail is interesting to a degree, but that is all the show has become. There is no humor, no romance that make you want to watch and tape, so you don’t miss it. Heaven forbid two characters have a conversation about something other than a secret, a man, blackmail, or who’s the daddy LMAO!!!!
I want character driven storylines too, but with characters who are complex, interesting, and acted by actors who can actually act. Who are not Ken and Barbie.
Mr. Corday needs to get a clue. He brings back Justin and Adrienne only to waste them. They have such an amazing history with the show. Heaven forbid the writers explore it. They bring back Kayla only long enough because of Stephanie’s crap. Changing paternity, oh that’s original LOL!!!! Then they give us a taste of Shane and Kim. Those few days with them ( no pun intended) where great.
If the show got back to good old fashioned storytelling that was more than blackmail and secrets with complex characters and amaing actors they would get millions of viewers back who have long given up on the show, and the ratings would be amazing!!!!!!

I disagree w/Sally, I probably wouldn’t be watching the show if it centered around the Hortons. I like that it’s a lot Darker than it used to be.
The Dimera’s are a very talented family LOL. James Scott, Joe Mascolo and Renee Jones are all exceptional actors, some of the best on the show and I never tire of watching them. John Aniston would have been my second choice for veteran actor
Yes, the actors are exceptional, but EJ is a character that should not even be as old as Will. SORASing a character taht much breaks any connection long-time viewers have, and in the end, it is long-time viewers that keeps a show on the air.
This is one 45-year viewer that has stopped recording it, and if I happen to miss it, oh, well – nothing much lost.
Oh please he is certainly not the only who has mess up sorasing, if you know the show’s history you know that Mike Horton, yeah a HORTON has been sorased, desorased i can’t even number how many times but Mike was a great character nonetheless like Ej Dimera is a great character that a talented actor succeed to make a flesh out, dynamic no matter the sorasing..i can name some other characters who had not been hurt by a sorasing but who are pretty dull and played by some bad actors..so i prefer by far the great character played by a charismatic, great actor who has been sorades.
I have been watching 25 years. Was watching when Philliip was born (went from 4 to 15) as well as EJ and others who have been sorased over the years. At least Ej was gone a long time before they brought him back unlike Phillip and others. Thanks to JS acting I don’t feel any connection was broken. Sorasing can be annoying but IMO there are worse things, like bad acting and poor, drawn out or repeat SL. I for one am glad they sorased Ej cuz if not I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the amazing Ejami chemistry that has kept me watching the last 4 years.

I’ve always loved Lexie and her ability to stand up to her father and love him at the same time. James Scott is an amazing actor and one of the reason I watch Days religiously. And Stefano. . .no words needed.

There are a number of very talented actors on Days, but James Scott rises far above the rest. The passion and effort that he puts into his acting has been evident in every scene since he started on this show in 2006. James has the very special ability to convey an unspoken message in a scene that requires no dialogue. He is truly an asset and Days is very lucky to have him.

I voted for all the DiMeras!! They are what makes this show dynamic and compelling to watch. James Scott as Ej is the most talented actor in my opinion he puts in his heart and soul into his character. Lexie Carver as the doctor and Stefano as the veteran. The DiMeras these days are the most entertaining on this show.

It’s been so good seeing Renee Jones off the shelf and back on my TV screen fairly regularly. That woman needs her own storyline. James Scott and Joe Mascolo are both fantastic (which goes without saying, in my humble opinion). A trifecta of amazing talent. 🙂
James Scott is the best actor on Days. His performances are always top notch. He makes you want to watch a certain scene over and over. I watch DAYS because of James and the Dimeras. Give us EJAMI battling Stefano and Kate and that will be emmy worthy.
James Scott’s EJ and Matthew Ashford’s Jack are the two best characters “Days” has ever seen, in my opinion. I believe that in both cases, the actors gave those roles much more than was originally intended, and the characters became huge thanks to brilliant performances. I would be very happy to see Matthew Ashford back opposite Melissa Reeves again, by the way.

I totally agree with you, Ej and Jack played by Scott and Ashford are some of the best characters this show had thanks above all to their performers. Complex, multi-layered, played with lot’s of subtext..can be bad and good, between antihero and villain (well the early years for Jack/Matt after that they quite mess up the character but Asford managed to still make Jack enjoyable above all because of his acting talent charisma and great comedic timing). However Jack was much better written than Ej because the writing was talented in early 90’s..but Scott thanks to his talent manages to make his character complex and captivating..imagine if Scott would have played a character on this show in 90’s..it would have been..just delicious..but right now at least we have him playing all the right notes and subtlety even with this crap writing and for that kudos James Scott..you can be a star outside of Daytime you have the talent.

Peter always pulls me into his character and Eric has delivered with his dark Brady turn. Great men delivering fabulous performances!
I love Galen, too. He delivers on those very emotional scenes, the comedic banter, and the romantic leading man role. I only wish he were on much more than he is now.

I agree with you, Waverly, and KenseysMom. I love Galen, too. I have really enjoyed his performances. He was definitely outstanding in the hospital scenes after Arianna’s accident and in today’s show during her memorial service.
To each his own i think Gering is the weakest actor on this show.
All his emotional scenes did no anything for me..actually it was quite laughable (and i am an actress..) He also lacks of screen-presence and chemistry with his acting partners..it is lame and pretty weak..but good for him if he has his fans, even the worst of us have to be liked..lol..his “acting” we call that “hair model acting”..the guy should give his place to someone who can act and has presence..ah well anyway in every soaps you have bad and dull actors..it is for this reason that lot’s of people make fun of this genre..so i guess Gering has his place as a bad soap actor..lol

agree with your synopsis of gering. he is ok but the chemistry of sweeney and scott is what keeps me watching.
James Scott without a doubt!! Favorite doctor, Lexie 1st, then Nathan, Veteran, I voted Victor but Stefano is a very close 2nd. John Aniston has had better lines lately.

Chappell and Aniston ok they are good actors but Gering seriously ?! Favorite Doctor – DANIEL! He is the lifesaver of Salem! He saved more lives in the past 2 years than all the other doctors combined. Bo, Victor, Philip, Theo, Kate, Chloe, Melanie, EJ, Stefano and he was there to help Stephanie and Maggie…. Without him half the characters would be dead. Lol!
James Scott by far is the best actor Days has had on the screen in a long time! He takes me to Salem and I see and feel what EJ is going through because of his unrequited love for Samantha Brady. He now is a father first and foremost and wants to be with his children. Sami Brady is being horrible keeping him from them. I think Lexie is a wonderful, caring doctor. Joe Mascolo is my favorite veteran actor. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a DiMera Day!
Best actor without a doubt is James Scott. He is definitely one of the best the show has.

Firstly, not all James Scott fans are EJAMIs and not all have obsessions, unlike the 5 Galen fans.
All of you that think James Scott is a better actor than Galen Gering have your own opinion but those of us that think otherwise should have respect. This is a public poll you know. Those of you that mock Galen don’t have any right to, he’s just as good as, if not better than James Scott.
crystal chappell is a fine woman and great actor. her amazing webseries, venice, should not be missed. she is so very creative.
