Last night, the new Chad DiMera in town, Billy Flynn of Days of our Lives sat down live with On-Air On-Soaps Michael Fairman for the first in a new series of DAYS Hangouts!  The hangout was broadcast live and now those who missed the event can watch it back!

During the almost 40 minutes of banter, Michael and Billy welcomed selected and passionate DAYS fans from across the country who each had their opportunity to pose questions to Flynn. The guest participants included: Spencer Barrett, Anthony Corona, Carol Rowland, Joanie Nowak, Rachel Turk, and  Michele Lephhart.

To kick things off, Michael posed a few questions that have been on  many DAYS fans minds at the top of the hangout to which Billy responded to. Here are a few excerpts below!

Flynn on being a recast and the challenges he has faced: “I was very nervous. Casey Deidrick (Ex-Chad) is a handsome young man, and he was beloved.  But Chad is a different character now, so I sort of took that and put it out of my mind.  I knew that recasts have a really hard time from fans based on what I saw happen with Guy Wilson (Will, DAYS).  What do you say?  People are going to have their opinions.  I find some of it amusing, especially the height jokes … because I am six feet tall, and I am still the shortest on the show, because these other guys are like six feet four or five! This is not a TV show … it’s an NBA league on Days of our Lives!  It’s not nice to hear, but at the end of the day, it’s like, ‘What are you going to do?’  I just show up and try to do my work.”

Flynn on working with his on-screen brother James Scott (EJ)  in his first scenes where Chad throws a punch at EJ and working with the now exited Scott: “I was sweating profusely, and I had never been so nervous, and I was punching a guy who was six feet four!  I mean, I was jumping up to hit him in the face.  It was nerve-wracking because it was my first scene, and I am playing a new lead character, with for all intent and purposes the star of the show.  But James was amazing!  I remember I was going through the lines in my head and James said, ‘Listen.  Don’t worry about any of this.  I have already seen your work. You’re incredible.  And as I am trying to throw the punch a few times, James goes, ‘I have screwed up more times than anyone on the show. Don’t worry about it. We start there between the characters, but you do see for the short time James is still on-air that there is a short evolution that we have, but you will see the anger go to the brotherly love, but we really never get to have that relationship.”

Flynn on how he sees the change in the character of Chad, where he now has revenge on his mind: “I think it’s a natural human emotion after Chad has been lied to. Chad is just a guy who desperately wants to be loved.  He has been abandoned by everyone in his life, and when he started to care about EJ and Abigail, they betrayed him.  I know people have been saying “It’s so shocking how different he is,” but how can you not be?  And he gets shot?  I have never been shot, but I can imagine afterwards I would probably be pretty pissed off!”

Now below watch the entire DAYS Hangout with Billy Flynn hosted by Michael Fairman!  The let et us know what you thought of Billy’s answers to the questions posed, and if you enjoyed the hangout?  And yes, per Billy’s request, we had “Fruity Pebbles” cereal on-hand as he promised he would eat on his preview tweet!

He does kind of remind me of Nick Fallon like others mention but i think he’s doing a fine job as a somewhat darker and edgier Chad…now they need to pair him with Teressa and let the sparks fly…meanwhile i still believe Jordan was a prostitute and Clyde her pimp!!!

Great interview! After watching this interview and seeing Mr. Flynn in action on the show in recent “Days,” (giving the character further development), I think he will do just fine! He is a great addition to the show!

James,

Yep…it was a great interview!!!!! One of my favorite moments during the interview was when Mr. Fairman (IMO, what a CUTIE-PIE…LOL!!!!!) compared watching golf to watching paint dry…TOTALLY LMAO on that one…LOL!!!!! All in all…FUN FUN FUN interview!!!!! And Mr. Fairman…thanks a bunch!!!!! Your website TRULY ROCKS…and so do Y-O-U!!!!! Again…thanks.

James, my friend…take care. Peace.

Jay, thanks a million! You’re a breath of fresh air as always.

And I second your compliments to Mr. Fairman!

See you soon, Friend!

James,

Thanks…much appreciated. Dude…you are an absolute RAY OF SUNSHINE…TOTALLY!!!!! More and more, you and your posts BRIGHTEN MY DAY!!!!! Thank You.

See ya’ soon, Amigo. A-C-E-S!!!!!!

For me the jury is still out on Chad 🙁 As jimh stated earlier, pair him with Teressa and things would be sizzling!!! 🙂 I will sure miss Sami and EJ tho!!! Wish Daniel and Jennifer were back together. PLEASE get rid of Eve!!!!!!

I quite like him already. A Chad being edgier is just a more interesting Chad and while Billy doesn’t look like Casey, he will do just as fine if not better since with Casey Chad was a bit bland (the writing was the problem imo). And i totally understand Chad being mad..this affair story was disgusting and something Ej would never has done, totally out of character..Ej can be awful but his love for his brother was much more important than some few lame fucks with a lame and nobody character, even more when he was finally with the woman he always wanted. But whatever the bad writing is done, let’s move on with a more complex and interesting Chad and a female match for him like…Theresa ! If actors have chemistry (for that actors have to share scenes together..Days !) it could a total dynamo pairing..do it Dool !

Uh, no thanks. Ever since the failed Will recast and the total destruction of so many characters’ essence, what’s the point of continuing watching? One disappointment after another.

I was hanging on to every word of DAYS Hangout! I loved every second of it!!!

Billy Flynn is gifted!!!!!

I agree, 4ever. He can really grab your attention and reel you in. I’m just not sure about his true character yet. It’s that ‘good over evil’ thing nagging at the back of my mind. I vacillate between liking or disliking the character. Is he really ‘in’ with Kate, or is it a ploy; that is, orders of the mighty Stefano to pretend to be in cahoots with Kate? There is no way that Stefano would sit complacently, whiling the time away without complotting schemes against those who , in his head, have wronged him. We are all too familiar with Stefano’s paybacks. He is like a snake in the grass, biding his time, scoping his prey and then strike.

Also, who is Clyde’s boss? Stefano? Where is the Jordan-Clyde-Stefano link?

Excellent interview! I don’t see the similarity between Billy and the guy who played Nick myself. I think Billy is doing a great job as Chad and for me , I don’t like a pairing of Chad and Teresa. He needs a “new to town” woman to come in. Someone who will see through all the anger in Chad. He needs to be happy. Hopefully soon.

The writers on Days have done a very poor job setting up this so-called “revenge motive” regarding Chad. The foundation for this is weak to none. Beyond that, I think Billy Flynn’s interpretation of the character of Chad is way off base. Chad is flawed, immature in some ways, but he was NEVER creepy. Flynn’s interpretation of Chad makes Chad appear creepy. Also, Days should have cast a taller actor for physical continuity. The combination of these things make Flynn a bad choice for the recast of Chad.

ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.

Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.
