What’s Airing on Your Favorite Soaps on New Year’s Day 2026

Tomorrow, on the first day of the new year, you can recover from your night out of ringing out the old and ringing in the new, by plopping down near your favorite TV screens, mobile devices or computers, and check out what’s on your favorite soaps on January 1, 2026.

First, as previously announced, General Hospital will pay tribute to its iconic star, Anthony Geary when ABC rebroadcasts his final episode as Luke Spencer as the character says his goodbyes to his loved ones and friends, after saving his sons from one last mission.

However as longtime viewers know, Geary actually came back, as only he would for the one and only Jane Elliot (Tracy) two years later when she wanted to exit the series, and so he appeared in just one scene. Tony died on December 14, 2025 back in Amsterdam at the age of 78, and leaves a legacy behind as the all-time greatest actor in the genre receiving a record-setting 8 Daytime Emmys for his work.

GH is not the only soap airing a rebroadcast as The Young and the Restless gives us some good ole’ Jill (Jess Walton) and Katherine (Jeanne Cooper) drama and this time it’s from 1998. Anytime you can drive a story with these two was gold back in the day.  Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful plans to air a repeat from just this past summer when Luna (Lisa Yamada) sets a trap for Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Liam (Scott Clifton) is on his way to save her, and Grace (Cassandra Creech)is trying to figure out what to do about the lies she has told about Liam’s brain cancer diagnosis.

Have no fear, Days of our Lives  and Beyond the Gates pick right back up with all-new episodes on the first day of the year as the nuptials are almost underway for Javi (Al Calderon) and Leo (Greg Rikaart) with some last minute, shall we say, challenges ahead. While BTG’s Dani (Karla Mosley) is trying to figure out how she is going to tell her girls that their grandmother Anita (Tamara Tunie) Dupree has breast cancer, and that they may have inherited the genes.

Now below, here’s a quick rundown of each soap and some spoilers of what to look for on January 1:

Days of our Lives: Chanel (Raven Bowens) resents Johnny (Carson Boatman). Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) bond. The Hernandez family prepares for Javi’s (Al Calderon) upcoming marriage to Leo (Greg Rikaart). Leo  asks Marlena (Deidre Hall) for help.

General Hospital: A rebroadcast of Anthony Geary’s final full episode as Luke Spencer from July 27, 2015, as Luke says goodbye to Port Charles.

The Young and the Restless: A rebroadcast of a classic episode that originally aired on September 10, 1998 when Jill (Jess Walton) interrupts Katherine Chancellor’s (the late Jeanne Cooper) party with a shocking announcement.

The Bold and the Beautiful: Rebroadcast of an episode that aired back on July 3, 2025 where Dr. Grace Buckingham (Cassandra Creech) is racing against time to get Liam to have experimental brain surgery, while Luna (Lisa Yamada) has snapped and has kidnapped school teacher, Dylan (Sydney Bullock) as she sets a trap for Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) at the beach house school room.

Beyond the Gates: Nicole (Daphnee Duplaix) delivers some devastating info to Kat (Colby Muhammed) and Martin (Brandon Claybon), which causes an argument between the siblings. Dani (Karla Mosley) demands Bill’s (Timon Kyle Durrett) attention while Hayley (Marquita Goings) gets an earful. Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) and Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) are sideswiped by what they learn during a visit with their grandparents.

So, which episodes are you looking forward to watching the most? Do you like when your soaps have rebroadcasts, or do you prefer all-new episodes all the time, even when some audience members are not always available to watch during the holidays, and college bowl games are the order of the day? Is Michael not doing a Best & Worst List for 2025?! I have been waiting on it.

Richard…I’m wondering the same thing. I (also) have been waiting on it.

Now that you mention it, where is the best and worst of daytime in 2025?

Really wish they had somehow managed to edit the GH episode as a tribute to Tony Geary but leave the rest of that episode out of it.

Seeing Frodd & Ava in that ridiculous wig is just a reminder of everything that was wrong with the ReRon era of GH. Which is pretty much why Tony retired, as he said at the time.

Always great to see THE General Hospital legend again. Not so much that other dragonshit.

There were 8 former cast members in the episode. Yes, it was nice to see Geary again, but they should’ve picked a better episode. My skin crawled seeing Denise DeMuccio again. This was the final months of Ron’s tenure as HW.

Watching it, however, made me grateful for Cynthia Watros and Alexa Havins. Let’s make it a trifecta by bringing on a new Dillon in 2026.

Oh God yes. So grateful for Cynthia Watros. I despised Michelle Stafford’s approach which fluctuated between her morphing into the bratty& sassy Phyllis from Y&R and a nail-biting-infant-weirdo woman. And if we can’t have the original actress who played young adult Lulu, Alexa Havens is the next best thing.

I really disliked this episode. I remember feeling disappointment that there were no scenes between Luke and Laura. His only scenes were with Sonny and the second Lulu who never really established a familial connection with Geary. I would have liked to see some closure scenes with Laura, Bobbi, Robert and Lucky. Yes, I know the latter two were not working on GH at the time but they could have made cameos. That said, I liked Luke walking into the fog and slowly fading away. The only reason that worked is because Geary was a brilliantly gifted actor.

should have at least had a memorial card at the end

Ashley Jones is the newest addition of CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates.  The veteran soap actress has posted some teasey Instagran stories revealing the intel; especially her latest wearing a Beyond the Gates emblazoned robe while in her dressing room.

As to who Jones is playing that is still hush-hush. Ashley follows other former daytime notables to Fairmont Crest which have included Greg Vaughan (ex-DAYS, Y&R, GH) and Jordi Vilasuso (ex-Y&R, AMC, DAYS and GL).

A spokesperson for Beyond the Gates confirmed the news to Soap Opera Digest expressing, “We can confirm Ashley Jones will be appearing in Beyond the Gates.” It should be noted: Beyond the Gates does tape four months ahead of air.

Soap fans first met Ashley when she played Megan Dennison on The Young and the Restless (1997-2000). She then went on to The Bold and the Beautiful to play Bridget Forrester in her initial run from 2004-2010 and since then making recurring appearances throughout the next 15 years. In addition, Jones appeared on General Hospital in the role of Parker Forsyth from 2016-17.

Earlier this week, Beyond the Gates was renewed for two more consecutive seasons its 3 and 4th by CBS, giving the youngest soap on the air, a big confidence boost. The series debuted back on February 24, 2025 as the first hour-long Black-led soap opera, and which tapes in Atlanta, Georgia instead of Los Angeles, California.

CBS Renews ‘Beyond the Gates’ for Seasons 3 and 4

Congratulations are in order for daytime’s newest drama series, Beyond the Gates. Today on April 15, the soap opera was officially renewed by CBS for two more seasons, its 3 and 4th.

The network revealed the renewal pick-up at a press briefing led by CBS Entertainment President, Amy Reisenbach. That show of faith takes the soap through the 2027-2028 television and streaming season, while the soap currently continues to air its second season.

Beyond the Gates creator, head writer and executive producer, Michele Val Jean took to X following the news of the pick-up and expressed her gratitude, sharing, “So this happened. Thank you to everyone involved, from the network to the crew, for the support, belief, hard work and dedication everyone has poured into this show. Beyond grateful.”

While Deadline was the first to break the news of the young soap opera’s latest accomplishment, Val Jean clarified that Tracey Thomson who is listed at the bottom of the article as one of the series executive producers along with Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey, is more than that.

Val Jean explained Thomson’s full involvement with Beyond the Gates, noting, “A credit egregiously missing on this article is Tracey Thomson’s. She’s been by my side cranking out these shows since episode 150. We just did 400. She’s my partner, my co-head writer and an executive producer and she deserves all the credit.”

Beyond the Gates is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, DC, in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.

The cast is led by the Duprees played by Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Karla Mosley, and Daphnee Duplaix along with Brandon Claybon, Mike Manning, Trisha Mann-Grant, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Nixon, Arielle Prepetit, Sean Freeman, Timon Kyle Durrett, RhonniRose Mantilla, Keith D. Robinson. Jon Lindstrom, and more round out the cast.

So, excited to hear Beyond the Gates is keeping on keepin’ on with two more seasons coming your way after the completion of its current season? Let us know via the comment section. But first, check out our recent conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel with series stars Tamara Tunie, Sean Freeman, Clifton Davis and EP Sheila Ducksworth via the comment section below .
