General Hospital
Willam deVry Lands New Contract Role on General Hospital!

He played twisted Michael Cambias on All My Children for all he was worth and then some, and let’s not forget raped Bianca (Eden Riegel), and then played Storm Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, whose demise meant life for his on-screen sister, Katie (Heather Tom). Of course, we are talking about the talented William deVry who just finished taping his first scenes at his new soap home … General Hospital!
TV Source Magazine broke the news by relating, “I have confirmed with a General Hospital rep that deVry will play the role of Derek Wells. Derek is Connie’s (Kelly Sullivan) boss.” TV Source originally reported that deVry’s first scenes were with Maura West who plays Ava Jerome, from their sources.
Then just a half hour ago, deVry took to his own facebook confirming TV Source’s story while relating: “Finally!!! I just got word I can tell you I just finished my first day of work on General Hospital. It is a contract role. Very rare these days indeed. And I come to town as the character of Derek Wells. Derek has an agenda, let me tell ya!!! First air date is July 30th. Very excited to finally be able to say it out loud!!!”
So this begs many a question! Is Derek Wells really “Derek Wells”, or is he really related to another family on the Port Charles canvas? Perhaps, he is a Jerome too? With William deVry able to play bad so good, what kind of character do you think he will be? Is Derek on hand to bring on the exit of Connie Falconeri, since Kelly Sulllvan is exiting the show? Share your thoughts!
He looks more like he shouldve played Franco…anyway, GH needs another newbie like i need another hole in my head, and there is no more room in my head for another hole…lol…but i wont judge til i see his performance first…he could hurt or help the show…have to wait and see. Just wish the show remembers what it did with the missing Scott Baldwin, improve Lauras wardrobe and get Scorpio out of that DAMN COMA!!! Also where is Monica???
ditto! (‘cept the Franco thang…though I prefer James Franco I think Roger’s doing a great job!)
Roger is still Todd…..not even remotely like Franco, that stupid twist was the one that pushed me over the edge and made me change the channel on GH for the first time in 49 yrs.
I almost left when Jason was killed off the way he was, and the fans & Steve Burton was spit on. But I thought surely they wouldn’t leave it this way.
Once they threw Frankentodd in the mix…among the cheap shots at AJ’s weight, all the silly dialog that only a teenager would like, all the gay speak, and the corny dead lines our vets have to deliver, that are totally out of character for them. They have killed all the macho from the show and up’d the tight body young naked men to a level of uncomfortable discrimination. I shudder to think what is next.
I like RH as Franco…was just saying this actor looks more the part…
ooh! nice take on he coulda been a great Franco.
LOL. love your take on “…there’s no more room in my head for another hole.”
that’s me as well.
it’s a lot of misfits, mishits, and deluge of soap talk… and we’re in the thick of it.
yah… where’s my Scotty Baldwin?
Thanks Patrick…we on this message boards could use some humor here somtimes…
I laughed out loud at your post Jim! Thanks!
Your welcome…like the soaps…these message boards need some humor once in awhile…lol
I have only been watching GH since November, so they all new to me. But just a general observation- all the characters that everyone call the vets on any soap– they all were at one time the newbie on their show. Just think in 20 years people could be complaining GH isn’t giving their old fav’s Franco, Kiki or Britt air time for some newbie named Zandoff — that said— all soap writers like to write their own characters and stories– so yes they do try to honor history, but I found after every shift in head writers there is an influx of new characters on any soap—and once they get that out of their system and the brass cracks down on them they get back to basics.
STOP ADDING CAST!!! It’s over crowded and I’d rather Kelly Sullivan stay!!! But I do like DeVry he’s a great actor!! It’s just enough is enough
agreed!! i like connie she could work with him!!
Connie has a boss??? I thought she was the boss!!
She is….they are changing history yet again, to fit their ridiculous ideas.
He may be Connie boss, but I wonder if he will also be Sam’s dad? I know he’s supposed to be coming too.
This its amazing news. #GH
Laura needs a stylist. 🙂
That is the darn truth. I have no idea how Laura ended up so frumpy. It’s like they don’t know how to buy cute clothes for anyone over a twig size and so they just quickly grab a little of whatever and go. She’s a beautiful woman in a size that is in line with the majority of American women, so cute and beautiful stuff is out there. They just need to find it and put it on her…that IS their job.
well ,a NEW contract Charecter, huh ?? SOON GH will jsut be another poorly scripeted show, soon to be canceleld. (But I do believe that was the agenda all along) Ron Carlivati & Frank Valentini are bent on destroying anything that resembles what GH once was. Since they have taken control there has not been near as many awards given to GH & it actors. If it were not for recorders (so I can fast forward thru most of the show) I would have stopped watching long ago.
Curious…what keeps you watching? Just asking…
There are those that are habitual complainers and watch to find something to complain about, there are more than a few of them.. lol ..
I understand this viewers frustration. I personallyhave decided to cut down on my viewing time.
Frank valentini is playing with our emotions. we have had just enough of franco. who bloody cares about franco. we need changes now to gh. or it will face cancellation again. where is monica anna duke and laura. we don’t want anymore new characters shoved down our throat. fire kiki morgan and britt.
So Frank and Ron are purposely tanking GH is that what you’re saying, Carol? Sorry, but that’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard in a long time. I’ll be the first to admit that the show is going through kind of a lackluster period right now, which is something that all shows go through. But to suggest that there is a hidden conspiracy and agenda to see GH canceled, I’m really at a loss for words.
i agree with you…gh…like most soaps have their ups and downs…a few months from now gh could be getting praise again…its how these shows work…i complain about a few things myself but most soaps fan do…however we dont believe its a conspiracy to get a show cancelled when we dont like something and if we dont like the entire show we simply change the channel until they do something we like that might draws us back again…plain and simple.
What do you mean “since they have taken control there have not been near as many awards given to GH and its actors?” That makes no sense. They’ve only been there a little over a year and their actors won 2 out of six acting Emmys this year–33% of them when GH was only 25% of the soaps on the air that year. So they beat the average. They were also nominated in 4 out of the six categories, and in one category, GH was nominated twice over. So they won 50% of the categories they were nominated for. And the show itself, while not winning some other key awards, was recognized with a nomination while other shows were shut out entirely from those categories. It’s not true that GH has taken a steep dive (or any dive at all) in the acting categories, but even if it were, it would be impossible to tell from one year of data. There have been plenty of years that GH has walked away with less–less nominations, less wins, and sometimes no wins in the acting categories. I’m clear on the fact that you don’t like Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati…crystal clear on that..and that you think they are bad at their jobs. But with all the evidence you could use to argue your point you picked one–that GH is not getting “near as many” awards for the show and its actors–that doesn’t hold up. One year is not enough data and in that one year they’ve done quite well for themselves by any standard. Now did other shows do better this year? Of course. But GH hardly did poorly and certainly did not precipitously dip below it’s average haul for the past 50 years.
Just what GH needs…another newbie on contract while Anna , Laura, Scotty, Felicia, Mac and Duke are MIA and one of the greatest daytime characters ever, Robert Scorpio, is rotting in a coma in far off Switzerland…I wasn’t expecting all vets all the time when they started to “bring back” vets. But what I was expecting was vets being fully integrated in front burner stories that contained newbies with historic ties to PC. I was expecting attention given to vet history and past relationships.I was hoping for a light to be shined on unfinished stories waiting decades to be told like Duke/ Anna. Redemption to be given to deserving characters that had been ruined by past regimes, like Frisco and Robert. Acknowledgement of deep love and commitment between legacy characters like Robert/Anna and Luke/Laura.I was hoping to see families reunited and friendships reignited among legacy characters. But unfortunately we’ve gotten almost none of that. A few token scenes here and there to try to appease the masses of longtime fans and that’s pretty much it. A whole lot of time and energy has been dedicated trying to force a Franco redemption story down our throats, and integrating these newbies and OLTL actors. Sad that a rich history and amazing actors and actresses have been taken for granted. And you know what…the fans love and dedication to GH is being taken for granted too.
New characters bring new life/stories!! ..
It was awesome that GH could get Derek, he is great actor!!!
I’m excited for the stories ahead with a new player in town..
great point Dawn, i totally agree, and i don’t mind the new characters, just wish the vets would be given the respect they deserve and be integrated with the newbies. once again GH has everything going for them as far as cast and history goes, it just doesn’t seem to have the right person to executed. It sounds so simple right? can we just get someone who can execute storylines, with the vets, and like dawn said unfinished storylines. Isn’t there someone who can do all this? theres got to be, obviously RC isnt up to the task.
well said… Dawn!
I totally agree with you. GH was one of the best now I feel when I watch it’s like srambling eggs in a pan. Stories begin but go nowhere. The new characters are not worth holding my attention. I prefer watching classic GH on youtube than waste my time watching the crap on now.
If GH does go with the who’s your daddy in Sam’s case I think the fed agent Thomas Rayner would be a good choice. Bring back Mark Pinter who had great chemistry with Nancy’s Alexis role. GH dropped the ball on that one a few yrs ago.
Get it toghether GH or you to will be looking for a new home on the internet.
Couldn’t have said it better.
DITTO. Well said!
Thanks! 🙂
Remember multiple vets did not want to return full time (TR mentioned in interviews at the time that he was only available for short bursts this year–with his obligations to his family, Y&R, his web series, and producing requirements). He’s also in his 70s if I recall. Not to mention that he is very expensive vis-a-vis story potential that doesn’t involve Robin or breaking up Anna and Duke (which would be a very islanded story).
A similar story with Finola Hughes, who, if I recall correctly, at the time of her signing, mentioned that the fact that she would be getting long stretches of time off and not be working at a daily front burner pace was a deciding factor in being willing to sign a long-term contract with the show, which she hadn’t been willing to do before. Her children are still children, she has directed and released (and traveled to promote) a feature film, and has several other irons in the fashion fire. She was not looking for a full time main-character job and would not have signed on if that’s what was being asked for her.
Felicia and Mac are now supporting characters. I don’t like it since I came to be a huge GH fan in the 90s when they were front and center, but that’s sort of how soaps work–characters between 20 and 40 dominate and there are only a few slots for those older (Luke, Tracy) to stay front burner. I’m quite certain people in the 80s and 90s had a lot of thoughts (too bad there were no message boards then) on characters like Lesley, Steve, Audrey, Jessie, Lee, and Gail being pushed aside for young, glamorous newbies like…Laura, Luke, Anna, Felicia, Frisco, Lucy, Mac, etc. In fact, think of how most of those characters were introduced–as young things in characters who became immediately front burner with few, if any, connections to the existing canvas–exactly the thing we rail about today is exactly what someone would have thought about how Felicia was introduced, or Mac’s sudden younger brother, or how Laura suddenly takes over the show when her mother was the main character just a few years beofre. It’s the soap opera circle of life. Its how things work. In 20 years you won’t have the “new” Lauras or Felicias or Lukes if you don’t introduce them now.
Now do I think GH is overcrowded and needs to thin the herd? Absolutely. But am I also aware that you can pay Sabrina, Felix, AND Britt (combined) for the price of one of the more expensive vets per episode? As you gain seniority, your salary goes up even as your ability to bring in and hold younger viewers (who are key to advertisers) goes down. That’s why soaps since the 70s have always gently slowed down the airtime for vets while promoting younger, cheaper talent–who often grow up to become the vets of the future. And to be fair–GH is a treasure trove of rich material for actors in their 40s and early 50s, especially actresses, which didn’t used to be true.
I think GH should trim it’s cast and hold off on some new characters, but I don’t think it’s fair to blame the new characters or GH for being like darn near every soap ever. FV and RC have brought back more vets than I ever thought possible in a variety of short and longer stints. Including many (like Lucy, Lesley, Bobbie, Felicia, and Frisco) who I never thought we’d ever see again. They deserve credit for that. They have to balance the business side of things and the unfortunate but real ageist tendencies of advertisers and the networks, their ever shrinking budgets (remember, unknown newbies can make as little as scale per episode, whereas soap vets and stars can make many times that same amount for less lines in the same episode) and the demands of fans. I don’t envy them–but when you look at how many vets are back, how many are being used in stories that they aren’t necessary but still pop up in, and how many have been brought back long-term if not front burner, to say that the regime is “taking fans love and dedication to GH for granted” is a step too far for me. I honestly think there is no way they could win (meaning keep longterm fans happy, the network happy, advertisers happy, and stay under budget, all the time) so it’s a delicate balancing act and someone is going to be unhappy part of the time–the goal is to make sure it’s not the same people all of the time.
I can appreciate and understand what you’ve said about budgets and newbies being less expensive and necessary to the genre. I get it and I agree…I too remember newbies like Frisco/Fellicia! But that explanation falls short when RC and FV continue to bring in expensive, high profile talent from other shows instead of using the expensive, high profile talent that already exists at GH…our beloved vets. If you’re spending the big bucks, spend them on characters/stories we care about and want to see. Yes, they’ve jammed a smattering of aimless scenes in with vets we love…but there is no satisfaction in that for viewers. We want well told stories and a balance of vets and newbies. Not aimless scenes and dropped stories. As far as vets like Finola and Tristan choosing this type of back-burner direction for their characters…I’d love to read or see those interviews to get confirmation on that. If that’s true, that would explain the unexplainable to many fans….why Anna is barely being used and why Robert isn’t on at all. I know that is a huge source of frustration for me. I don’t envy FV and RC. I know it’s a crazy difficult job they have to do…I will continue to hope that things improve. I still care about GH and hope that it still has a lot of life left in it! Thanks for your reply. Always interesting to read other perspectives…
Well said– there is no way to write any soap that will please all the people all the time.
BR, your thoughtful analysis is the most intelligent piece of writing that has been posted here in ages. Well said, and 100 percent accurate.
Well said Dawn!
Well stated! As for Frank & Ron ruining GH on purpose, I believe they are too arrogant to believe that their work could be anything other than brilliant. Just shows that they ignore the fans.
could he be Connie’s doctor? could he be kiki’s real dad? or Sam’s dad? could silas be kiki’s real dad…. or could silas be Sam’s dad? who knows? 🙂
I think you hit the nail on the head. I don’t watch GH, but just reading some bits and pcs of information I think Silas will be Kiki’s father. I guess Sam & Silas aren’t much on chemistry because I don’t read anything about it. My views of ME being “Silas” must be a fact – “Epic Fail”! Keep bringing on newbies tho’ so Silas gets lost in the shuffle like Robert Scorpio and just maybe we’ll get to see him return to OLTL as John McBain – a much better soap and a family waiting for him there – lol!!!
I think he should be KiKi Daddy so she’s not Michael s cousin problem solved !
Oh I am pretty darn sure KiKi and Micheal are not really related. No soap has gone down the incest road very long without either characters finding out they are related before they have sex, or characters finding out they are not related so they can. My guess Silas Clay is her real father.
With William deVry able to play bad so good,
Truth.
he’s all masculine sensual… reels imagination. let loose!
I remember him well from AMC. he penetrated your senses… you were on guard and wary of your inhibitions.
he is masculine. i would love to get on my knees and suck williams big fat cock.
Derek is an awesome actor!!
He will be a great addition to GH, and his character will bring us very exciting stories!!
Looking forward to what he will bring the canvas; he will rock it !!! ..
Great news he is one hot man. he is a terific actor. Gh needs to bring back robert scorpio.
_
AGREED !! WE NEED ROBERT BACK!
He is a welcome addition to any show. He is one of the best actors in TV history. Shame on all of you haters above. The vets are there and they get plenty of time, but a soap survives on a mix of vets and new blood. Boo.
Good boy, bad boy?— please make it as bad as you can be. It will raise the bar for so many other actors/actresses. Can’t wait for the evil deeds to happen.
No new contract characters needed, try using the established ones you already have, that have been with GH forever.
Yet another excuse not to show the characters that MADE GH to begin with, and turn them all into supporting recurring status characters.
RC & FV…why didn’t you just create a new soap since you hate GH so much you want to change it all. Obviously you can’t hear or don’t care what the fans want.
Here you go changing the history again. Now Connie has a boss? She has been her own since the beginning. I think you guys were hired to tank GH and get it cancelled. I can’t even watch the stupidity anymore, thanks for ruining almost every story on the canvas and turning it into a teen fantasy repetitive fairy tale that no one can even remotely believe.
Connie hasn’t owned Crimson since Manning Enterprises bought the loan she’d used to leverage her magazine.
This failing show does NOT need yet another new character! Down and down it goes…
A question for anybody who has the answer didn’t Tony Geary make the comment in an interview with TV Guide that the writers or whoever make a percentage off of creating a new character instead of writing for the vets? Or was I dreaming that? Because all the last 4 soaps seem to be doing that. I think it was the interview Michal Logan/TV Guide did with Geary, Jane Elliott and Kin Shriner.
Tony Geary did say that, but it’s not true. I work in the industry and am in the writer’s union (though I don’t work in soaps and never have). I checked out this rumor years ago–with the union that sets the terms for writers, their residuals, etc. which cannot be deviated from and it’s not true. It’s been so widespread that apparently even some actors believe it, but I can promise 100% that this is not true. Residuals work a very specific way and you get money only for the episodes you write when they air and a very few other circumstances. You do not get paid forever for episodes people write that have characters you created in them unless you still have some sort of official writers credit. I wish this rumor would go away since it is very destructive. Anyone inside the writer’s union can verify this by simply asking the right people, and a lay person could as well, probably, simply by contacting the right people at the union.
I did read that interview. & yes, not sure if it was that interview, but I remember that the writers, etc, do get a royalty for every new character they bring on canvas. Such a waste. General Hospital has a lot of great talent that are hardly involved in a storyline or that are on-air maybe once or twice a week.
It stinks/ Why not just give Spinelle and Johnny more air time and keep Connie…These are proven characters…… No wonder soaps are leaving the air.
Both actors who played Johnny and Spinelli have voluntarily gone off contract…Brandon Barash voluntarily left the show (his choice) and Bradford Anderson went off contract (his choice) to be able to test the waters to see what else is out there. And since both were in front-burner storylines at the time they chose to leave, I don’t think their issues were air time but being in their 30s and wanting to know if there were any other opportunities out there in film or primetime. That’s a reasonable thing for those actors and I won’t hold it against the show or even the actors for doing what’s right for them.
one more problem GH has losing two very great actors and bring on these others really, did the writers or who ever lose their minds Todd ,Franco and the other twisted ideas they have. Robin was coming back now what sge is not …we all know that if a body is not founf on a Soap that the chances of them alive is good BRING BACK JASON AS JASON!!!!!!!! and BRING BACK ROBIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! these story lines are out of left field thats why the ratings are dropping!!!!if they are so bad then cancel the show NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! been a big fan for years and then things were not right on it anymore so I do not watch!
Please GH, reassur em that despite the excellent additions to cast of late — Maura West, William deVry — that there will be a post-anniversary stabilization of characters and plot. I understand the new economies and need to tell stories new ways but… we enjoy consistent plots with regular appearances by our core characters. These long absences with dangling story threads makes it unpleasant and not as interesting to watch each day. I love GH. It was the first soap for me back in the 1970s. With the anniversary, I was pumped to see so many past characters but either give them finality (of sorts) or use them. And please, do not follow the B&B formula of hiring top talent for cameos.
Absolutely in agreement with you, well-said. Three days were spent having to watch Molly and Rafe dancing in the park in their prom attire. Really? Cute kids. But, I’d much rather see a story unfold that I can relate, too, not kissing cousins, not embryo implantation (Britt), not seeing someone get pregnant the night they miscarry, etc.
Wow you folks like to complain.
I LOVED him as Michael Cambias – I was sorry he was a bad guy on that one. Hope he’s not completely bad on GH – and I hope he’s Sam’s father – and I hope he ends up with Alexis – if he’s a good guy.
The thing that makes me sad – that he has to be involved with the departure of an excellent actress’ character.
Yes – Kelly Sullivan. I’ll never understand that decision – and I’ll never forgive it, new writing team.
The one little thought in the back of my head – is the new process of recreating GH into something completely new – with completely new people? I’d be nervous if I was the old guard.
L
YES ALEXIS NEEDS A NEW MAN SINCE SHAWN IS A HIRED KILLER IDONT UNDERSTAND WHY SHE HAD 2 KIDS WITH SONNY .. ICKK I LOVE KELLY(CONNIE0 I HOPE SHE STAYS
Alexis only had one kid with Sonny (which was enough). The other was with Sonny’s bro Rick Lansing.Never saw any chemistry between her & Shawn.
She needs new love!
I wish this show would stop adding new characters and use the powerhouses they have.. where on earth is Genie, Finola, Ian ?????? GH Is failing.
I was hoping with Lukes illness the writers would have brought back Jack Wagner…Frisco and Jackie Zeman…Bobbi, who would race against time to help Luke find a cure and then Frisco could stick around longer as Maxis baby story unfolds, keep an eye on Britt, irritate Mac with his presence in PC, and make a nervous Felicia once again think twice about how she feels about him days before she and Mac are to wed. Now that Tony G. is off on his hiatus from the show here is another possible great storyline that fizzled for me.
ISNT LUKE LEAVING FOR GOOD??
I absolutely agree with you. Veteran fans do not care or want to see these new faces in or around Port Charles. Let’s focus on the core characters and families.
I have to disagree with you. These sideline stories help the main characters – give them new faces and situations to get involved in. Usually the sideline stories are short lived or else they create something else. If it was just a set group of characters all the time, , with never a new character or situation, it would be boring.
I remember when Anna Devane and Robin were new to Port Charles… Thank God they did and look how many other characters and storylines they became involved with. So sometimes these new characters that pop up become beloved characters… but I’m sure back then people complained about ‘these new characters’ showing up.
Silas is much too young to be Sam’s father.
Too many new characters already, I could care less about this character.
I absolutely agree with you. Too many unnecessary new characters being introduced at once.
I’m echoing what some have already alluded to on this thread. While I have no quarrel with Mr. deVry’s abilities as an actor, I do question the need (as well as the budget concerns), to bring on another contract player when there are 31 currently on the roster and 26 (?) on recurring. The cast is bloated beyond what the canvas should realistically be holding. These multiple umbrella stories are just the type of thing that has viewers tuning out because the varying threads are dropped then picked up after a period of time during which one has forgotten where they left off. It also wreaks havoc with continuity and pacing. This “addiction” this regimne has for new characters and signing actors is going to be what does GH in, to say nothing of the less than stellar storytelling.
I wish that the casting and writing team of General Hospital would hear our concerns about such a large cast. Most viewers do not want to see any more new faces in Port Charles. Please focus on our veteran actors and actresses and relatable storytelling. It is hard to get invested with a character, couple, or storyline when the tween/teen/young adult scene are running around Port Charles practically every day.
He ia a great actor but if too many new characters keep being written the show will be un re cognizable.
Could it be Sam’s father. I know there is a storyline coming up regarding that.
Is he playin SAMMATHA MCCALL FATHER?
Or is he playing the love intrest of SAM?
Or is he playing the love intrest of CARLY ANNA or AVA?
general hospital is getting ridiculous. they should just cancel gh. i hate to say this. but thats how i feel. the ratings are fallen. viewers have had enough. cancel gh replace it with a talk show. meredith vierra has a new talk show in the works. we need more talk shows on abc. too expensive to produce soaps on abc. days of our lives is rocking. better ratings than gh. gh will be cancelled early next year. i know that for a fact. i know people close to me. that work for abc. they want gh gone. just end the soap already. days of our lives and bold and the beautiful are the only soaps, that are hot now. one life to live and all my children will be cancelled. sooner than you think. abc made the right call. in cancelling one life to live and all my children. sorry im honest. thats my own opinion.
Yaba! Yaba! Yaba! Goo-ba! Doo-Doo! My comment makes as much sense as yours!!! You say they should just cancel GH then go on and say they are early next year! So, if its true? you wouldnt need to make that remark in your first sentence…i think you just like to stir up things to get some idiot to respond to you. Well, the jokes on you! Im the only idiot who will respond!!!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
