WWE Bad Blood 2024: The Rock Returns, Jimmy Uso Saves Roman Reigns, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre Deliver an Instant Classic

A mix of great storytelling, wrestling and stunning returns made the return of WWE Bad Blood, the 2024 edition, one of the more intriguing premium-live events of 2024. For the first time in 20 years, WWE put on the Bad Blood event, originally held in 1997, which featured the first-ever “Hell in a Cell” cage match between Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker.

This year’s Bad Blood delivered an instant-classic with its opener, the “Hell in a Cell” match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk, which marked the third match in their hated rivalry and trilogy with CM Punk emerging victorious. The match featured unbelievable moments of violence, and moments of emotion, played to the hilt by Punk and McIntrye that included instead of bringing out a bag full of thumb tacks (as per usual in these types of matches), McIntrye brought out broken beads in an abundance just like on Punk’ bracelet he wears in honor of his wife AJ Lee and his dog, Larry.

In the night’s main event, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes teamed up with the most unlikely ally in Roman Reigns. The OTC was wrestling his first match since losing the belt to Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 40. Rhodes and Reigns went up against Bloodline 2.0 members, Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. The match came to a stunning conclusion, when Reigns landed a second Superman Punch and lined up a spear on Sikoa. However, Bloodline 2.0 members, Tonga and Loa, distracted him and allowed Sikoa to hit a spear of his own on Reigns.

Next, a hooded figure emerged from under the ring and took out Tonga and Loa before revealing himself to be Jimmy Uso. The surprise was enough to catch Sikoa off guard. Reigns then secured the win. After the victory, Jimmy and Roman hugged it out in the ring. Cody was also present, when The Rock’s ‘Final Boss” music hit and out came the man himself, looking quite pissed that he was witnessing, Roman, Jimmy and Cody all together. With one raise of The Rock’s infamous eyebrow and signaling “1, 2, 3,” he made a statement that clearly is left open to interpretation as he made his exit. Is The Rock going to headline WrestleMania 41 and go against Reigns and Rhodes in a triple-threat match come April 2025 … or will something else develop? Stay tuned.

In another surprise return, Raquel Rodriguez made her presence known when out of nowhere she came to the aid of her former tag team partner, Liv Morgan in her Women’s World Championship match against Rhea Ripley. The shocking heel turn now has Rodriguez as the muscle to protect Morgan as she aligns herself with the Judgment Day and Dominik Mysterio, Morgan et al. The match featured Dominik suspended in a cage near ringside playing up his fear of heights and claustrophobia.

Another featured women’s match had Nia Jax defeating Bayley to retain the WWE Women’s Championship. The interesting story here was Tiffany Stratton once again tried to cash in her “Money in the Bank” briefcase, but it backfired, leaving Jax leery of Stratton, which will have explosive consequences in the months to come.  Speaking of “Bad Blood” and in a revenge match, former Judgment Day member and WWE champion, Damian Priest defeated Finn Balor. For it was Balor, who cost Priest the title in his match with Gunther.

During the premium live event, Paul “Triple H” Levesque came to the ring to inform everyone of the plans for this year’s Crown Jewel and the belt that the men’s and women’s champs will receive.  In the concept, both division’s main title holders will face each other with neither belt on the line. That means it’s Cody Rhodes vs Gunther and Nia Jax vs. Liv Morgan. While Triple H was speaking to the crowd in attendance and those watching on the PLE, Gunther came to the ring and immediately took issue with Bill Goldberg.  he Hall-of-Famer was at ringside with other wrestling luminaries given that “Bad Blood’s host city was in Atlanta, Georgia, where many pro wrestlers, then and now, reside. Could a Gunther/Goldberg match be made down the line? We shall see.

Then, in a very smart move, a heel turn took place after the premium live event went off the air. The WWE let social media pick up the moment when Kevin Owens attacked Cody Rhodes in the parking lot near the WWE production trucks.  More to come!

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.

This week on General Hospital begins with the ABC soap opera’s 16,000th episode which brings Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) back to Port Charles after being released by the WSB; all thanks to the deal made between Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Z (John Oliver).

On the same episode, the upshot of Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) coming face to face, and seeing each other for the first time in months plays itself out, and it may not be how you think. Josslyn hopes sending Valentin to the side of Anna, will break up his burgeoning relationship with her mother, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), but will it?
