WWE SummerSlam: Roman Reigns Returns, and Four Titles Change Hands

The “OTC” is back! That’ the Original Tribal Chief in case ya didn’t know… Roman Reigns! This weekend the WWE traveled to Cleveland Ohio for one of their four major premium live events of the year,  SummerSlam. The card would reveal several storyline turns that open up the door for massive feuds from the massive betrayals.

However, the biggest pop of the night came at the conclusion of The Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa’s match with Universal WWE champion, Cody Rhodes. Returning after a four month hiatus, Reigns came to the ring and delivered a Superman Punch and a spear to ruin his cousin’s chance at winning the title, as well he should after Sikoa created his own version of The Bloodline basically behind Reigns’ back.

As for the “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, the best entrance of the night belonged to the champ. Starting from his trailer, Cody Rhodes strode to the Gorilla position with his beloved dog, Pharaoh whose loyalty knows no bounds.. Next, Arn Anderson pops up to let the champ know, “You’ve got friends in places you know, and a few here tonight.”

With Bloodline rules as the set-up for the match it was only a matter of time for all members of The Bloodline to interfere that includes :Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa and finally Jacob Fatu, who injured his leg flying off the top of the ring post through a table along with Rhodes.  Cody had Kevin Owens and Randy Orton as backup, who joined the fray only to have the Bloodline take them out. That’s when Reigns return caused the seismic ending with Sikoa out for the count and Rhodes retaining the title.

Gunther vs Damian Priest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

This match was to be Gunther’s crowning moment, how we got there led to the demise of the Judgment Day.  As Gunther and Priest battled it out with Finn Balor at ringside, as Priest was about to pin Gunther 1-2-3 on the 3 count, Balor pulled Gunther’s leg on the rope turning his back on his now former friend (although we saw this was coming for awhile now), Gunther locked in a choke submission after Priest tried to lunge at Balor for his portrayal and is the new WWE World Heavyweight champ.

Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan for the WWE Women’s World Championship

Want further proof the Judgment Days as we know is no longer? Just look at the outcome of the this match which by the way was one of the best matches of the night and opened SummerSlam.

Photo: WWE

After Ripley “dislocated” her shoulder during the match, she slammed it into the announce desk to try and pop back while itr continued to plague her throughout. Eventually,  Morgan would sneak attack Ripley with her Oblivion finisher right on the steel chair, just as Dirty Dom  distracted the referee and wins the match pinning Ripley.  It was then apparent  Liv and Dom were in cahoots this whole time. Dom even kisses Liv to rub salt in the wound and Ripley looses her “Dom Dom” to another woman as Dom and Liv walked out of SummerSlam together.

This was Punk’s first singles match since his turn tricep and he had both McIntyre and Rollins hating his guts for different reasons. There is no love lost between McIntrye and Rollins either! During the match, Punk had McIntyre’s shoulders pinned, but Rollins wasn’t paying attention and was late to count.

Photo: WWE

Then the bracelet that Drew stole from Punk’s wrist which includes the name of his wife AJ Lee and his beloved dog Larry, had landed in the ring.  Rollins noticed the bracelet, picked it up and put it on. Punk became incensed, mhit the Go to Sleep on Rollins, and took back the bracelet. McIntyre landed another Claymore on Punk, and then staggering Rollins who was coming  gathered himself and counted  1-2-3 as McIntyre’s wins.

In other key match-ups:

WWE Women’s Championship: Nia Jax defeated Bayley to capture the belt.

WWE United States Championship: LA Knight defeated Logan Paul to win the belt.

WWE Intercontinental Champsionship  Bron Breakker defeats Sami Zyan to win the title.

How would you grade WWE SummerSlam 2024? What did you think of the return of Roman Reigns? Weigh-in below.

WWE SmackDown: Chelsea Green Steals the Show

Published

on

By

Chelsea Green

In what has been heralded as one of the best in-ring promo in a longtime, Chelsea Green got her flowers, with the WWE Universe rallying around her during the Friday’s August 14 edition of WWE SmackDown on USA Network. In question, was what would be the fate of the WWE’s Interim Women’s World Championship belt that Green won in a ladder match at SummerSlam earlier in August.

The issue: in an unbelievably real-life continued streak of bad luck for Green, she suffered an injury during the April 7 edition of SmackDown in a tag match match-up teaming with Tiffany Stratton against the Women’s tag team champs, Fatal Influence. During the match, Green broke her orbital bone after taking the Fatal Flaw from FI’s Lainey Reid, when she landed awkwardly on Green’s face.

From there: Green knew she was also going to have to take time off to recover, but she, nor the WWE Universe, wanted to see her have to relinquish the title because of it. So, when SmackDown GM Nick Aldis came to the ring to tell Chelsea she has to give up the belt, an impassioned plea from Green went over with huge pop to the crowd and those at home, plus changed Aldis’ mind.

CHELSEA GREEN STANDS HER GROUND

Green expressed, “I knew when I climbed that ladder and I took that title, I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because every single time something good and magical happens to me in this business, it’s followed by something devastating. That’s just my story, isn’t it? That’s just Chelsea Green, the comic relief. The perfect opponent for the rest of the girls. Never the champion. Never the QB1.”

Then, Chelsea launched into the sacrifices she has made, and how she came to work and always did her best, even when she was discounted. Green stood her ground with Aldis that she earned the title and that until someone takes it off of her, it belongs to her! Green also appealed to Aldis’ human side after what he accomplished at SummerSlam, too.  The GM laced up his boots and wrestlers for the first time in three years and in front of his young son, against Gunther.

Aldis heard the message loud and clear. He decided to ignore his GM formal duty, and agreed to give Green 30 days to get cleared before forcing her to have to relinquish the title. The crowd broke out in “Yes!” chants (circa Daniel Bryan).

MATT CARDONA SAVES HIS WIFE FROM GUNTHER

However, the drama didn’t stop here! Oh, no! Gunther interrupted the moment and threw insults at Aldis and Green, until none other than Matt Cardona came out from the back to defends his wife! It was great to see Cardona and Green, real-life marrieds, in an angle together on SmackDown. Cardona and Gunther went at each other, with ultimately Cardona getting the worst of it which led to an impromptu match!

Mickie James, former WWE superstar and wife of Nick Aldis took to social media on Sunday and gave high marks to Green’s promo: “Congratulations to Chelsea Green for delivering not just one of her greatest promos…. But legitimately one of THE GREATEST PROMOS I’ve ever watched. I felt every moment. She felt every word. That is how it should be done. You are a star my love. Everyone should take notes.”

Watch Chelsea Green’s talked about moment from Friday Night SmackDown below.

Now weigh-in: did you love Chelsea Green’s promo spot where she spoke of coming back from injury, being the butt of jokes, working hard to gain respect, and not willing to easily part with the highly-coveted Women’s World Title, because she got injured in a match? GENERAL HOSPITAL: Is ‘Jarly’ the Best Relationship in Soaps? Should Jason Go Work for the Quartermaines?

Published

on

By

Carly and Jason

General Hospital’s Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason’s (Steve Burton) bond will never been broken, and they reaffirmed that on the Friday, August 14 episode of the ABC soap opera.

For the first time since making his decision to leave the mob and work for Sonny (Maurice Benard), Jason sits down with Carly in her kitchen and breaks the news to her. She is shocked.

Jason explains that his time in Jakarta imprisoned by the WSB gave him time to think, and that he came to the realization his priorities are mixed up and he needs to put his son, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) first. When Carly asked how Sonny took the news, a tearful Jason explains that Sonny understood. Carly defends Jason’s decision as the right one.

Photo: ABC

The two share a heartfelt moment from across the kitchen table when Carly takes Jason’s hand and acknowledged how difficult it must be for him, considering his loyalty to Sonny all these years. That prompted Jason to apologize to Carly for the all times that his loyalty to Sonny had to come first over his loyalty to her. Carly says she married Sonny five different times and had his children. She understands it’s difficult to walk away and about loyalty, through her tears.

LIFE AFTER SONNY

When Carly asks Jason what is he going to do now, Jason tells his bff he hasn’t figured that out yet. Carly can’t believe she’s going to say this, but the Quartermaines could use his help. She believes Jason has a perspective that could help Ned (Wally Kurth) and Michael (Rory Gibson) at ELQ and Tracy (Jane Elliot) would love to have Jason at the company. Jason says he has to think about, and that it can’t interfere in his relationship with his son.

At the end of the discussion, Jason and Carly love lives are brought up. Let’s not forget, they previously married each other in September of 2021. This is when Sonny was presumed dead, only to show up before the final paperwork was signed, which nullified the best friend’s marriage to each other, and they suddenly went back to being friends.

NO QUESTIONS ON THEIR CURRENT LOVE LIVES

Now in 2026, Carly wonders if Jason told Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) he has left the mob, to which he informs her he hasn’t told her yet, while Carly tells Jason she will keep her relationship with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) out of their friendship.

They both know the other is not too happy with their current romantic partners. But, whether Jason and Britt can actually get back on sound footing, and pick up where they left off before Jason was taken by the WSB, is still left to be seen.

In the end, any scenes that showcase the ongoing bond between Jason and Carly in the hands of Steve Burton and Laura Wright, is always moving and played to perfection by these two long-running staples of the General Hospital brand.

So this all begs a few questions: Should Jason go work for the Quartermaines? Do you think it would be interesting to see him in business, or do you think he would hate it and be bored? Do you think of all the friendships on the current landscape of soap operas still on the air that Carly and Jason’s is one of the best? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
