GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny Contemplates Ending His Life as ‘Morgan’ Shows Up to Try and Save Him

Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) has gotten an earful of late for all the trouble he has brought to the lives of his children. As the week began Molly (Kristen Vaganos) laid into Sonny for being the root cause of why Kristina (Kate Mansi) went to see Ava Jerome (Maura West) in the first place, and in turn, lost her baby in a fall and is in critical condition.

Those words burned deep to Sonny, who did not react in any confrontational way, but was rocked to his core and just slinked away from his family and disappeared. Now on Tuesday’s August 8th episode of the ABC daytime drama, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), Jason (Steve Burton), Carly (Laura Wright) and others become more concerned that they haven’t see Sonny in awhile with his daughter in dire straits in the hospital.

That’s because Sonny has gone up to the hospital rooftop and is a step away from jumping and ending his own life. As all the voices swirl in his head of what Dante, Michael, Kristina and Molly said about how him as a father, he sees the vision of his late son, Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig), right beside him on the ledge.

Sonny tells Morgan he’s been a disaster to all his kids, especially him. He says he brings nothing but pain and destruction to everyone. Sonny says he always tried to hide the darkness. But now, he is tired of being somebody else. Sonny says he failed as a father, and his kids are all scared of him, but Morgan is there and firmly disagrees.

Morgan says that’s not true, that his kids are not scared of him and they will always come back to be by his side. Sonny brings up Kristina and if she just stayed away from him like she had wanted, the baby she was carrying would still be alive.

Things get very emotional when Sonny says it is all his fault that Morgan is dead and how can Morgan say otherwise? Sonny in his sadness and despair knows his son is here with him right now to tell him to do the right thing, which in Sonny’s mind is to end his life in that moment. However, Morgan says his kids and grandkids need him that what he is doing now is not the way out.

Meanwhile, we see Kristina return from surgery. She and her sister, Molly, grieve together for the loss of their little girl, while the next time we see a defeated and broken Sonny, he comes to see Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) in his office needing help.

The episode featured a knock-out performance from Maurice Benard. There was so much hurt, pain and sadness in Sonny’s eyes throughout the scenes opposite the returning Bryan Craig, that when the camera went in for the close-ups, all of that emotion was right there in front of us without it ever feeling pushed.

It was also a nice touch by having Morgan being the calming force for Sonny and the more, if you will, reasonable side, instead of being manic in those moments. While Craig’s appearance was short, it left viewers hoping one day (if things were to align) that the show would tell the story of what would happen if Morgan was alive and the burden of guilt it would lift from Sonny’s mind and heart, where the anguish of Morgan’s death was so palpable in this episode.

So, what did you think of the scenes between Sonny and Ghost Morgan and the performances of Maurice Benard and Bryan Craig? What did you think of the touching scenes between Kristen Vaganos and Kate Mansi as Molly and Kristina are devastated over the loss of the baby? Comment below, but first check out some of the moments between Sonny and “Morgan” below.

The scene that surprised me most was Sonny walking into Kevin’s office. Kudos to the writers for finding a logical way to speed up the reveal of Sonny’s dosage reduction.

I couldn’t agree more. A welcomed surprise. I’m also very glad Ava and Cates aren’t going to get their wish of seeing Sonny further deteriorate.

So glad that Sonny asked for help. Big surprise that he did so. Need to wrap up this storyline! And Maurice Benard really did some fine acting in the scene with his onscreen son.

I agree with your comment, but Weds.show was the best, just too bad little Donna had to go through getting her stomach pumped in order to prove that Sonny has just been taking placebos. Now can’t wait for them to put all the pieces together, including Ava’s part. That’s got to be a crime, endangering someone’s life, etc.

Ironic twist in the end though. It took two of Sonny’s kids to get him to see his medication was messed up. Though Morgan wasn’t actually there, and Donna had no idea she was helping him.

Ava’s definitely going to pay for this, and I believe that Scotty & NuJagger are also going to be in some legal hot water because they knew about Sonny’s meds being off. Jagger already exploited this fact in front of numerous witnesses at the courthouse, trying to goad Sonny into a fight. And Scotty was planning to do the same thing at the custody hearing, which of course leads back to the subpoena, and why Kristina was in Ava’s hotel room in the first place.

So Ava might be the only one formally charged with the baby’s death, but those guys are going to face some sort of consequences.

We might say three kids, because if Kritina hadn’t foolishly gone to Ava’s, starting this whole snowball rolling through Hell, mowing everything down in its path and Ava would still be doing, what she does best and now has Jagger to help her, seeing as he is as twisted as she is.

Scotty, Scotty, Scotty. The writers have brought his nasty side out again big time. Goading a pregnant Kristina in Sonny’s penthouse. Trying to get Alexis to discuss Heather’s case while she’s distraught over Kristina and the baby. I miss the Scotty who looks out for Elizabeth’s family and enjoys dating Dr. Obrecht, his Schnitzel. I miss Dr. Obrecht. Wish they were still together.

I’m not sure I saw the same clip as you did. What I saw in that scene with Morgan was an actor who had a hard time putting one line after the next. Maurice’s pauses were off and the whole performance rang hollow. I felt sorry for Bryan Craig who came back for a day who deliver this drivel. It was amazing he could do it with a straight face. Can we please lose the Corinthos family that has way overstayed their welcome in Port Charles? Frank, you can take the show In a different direction. Get rid of the mobsters. Your ratings won’t suffer.

If you dont like the charcters or the tone of this show, why don’t you just watch something else more suitable to your idea of a more docile afternoon whilst you sip your cup of tea.
P.S ” the mobsters” are an integral part of this show.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
