WWE’s first premium live event in its new streaming home ESPN gave new viewers a taste of just what makes professional wrestling, sports entertainment. Wrestlepalooza delivered a safe card with some enjoyable moments but without many surprises for longtime wrestling aficionados that they have become accustomed to as the WWE continues its growth globally and domestically.

Emanating from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the Indiana Pacers, the show kicked-off with a well-donsegment of how ESPN and then WWWF were the upstart companies back in the late 70’s and early 80s and illustrated why they are the perfect partners, with ESPN legitimatizing pro wrestling as something pure sports fans also will want to know and talk about it.

The opening match was the highly-anticipated bout between John Cena, on the last leg of his retirement tour, facing off with his longtime rival, “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar. When Lesnar made his entrance at 48-years old, he looked more massive than ever, stunning the audience.

When Cena arrived, he didn’t come alone! This was the first time that he came from the entrance ramp with a gaggle of small children, all Cena fans and all excited to be there with their favorite hero.  However, those happy faces would soon turn to sad ones.

LESNAR LEAVES KIDS IN AN OCEAN OF TEARS

First, Paul Heyman, Lesnar’s former manager showed up at ringside, to announce Lesnar before the match, signifying either a one-time walk down memory lane or perhaps something greater! Could Heyman be revealed to be back with Lesnar for this current run as well as running “The Vision” with Seth Rollins? Stay tuned.

Now the match: Other than a few moments where it looked like Cena would turn the tables, this was a beatdown in the biggest way possible by Lesnar. He delivered six straight F5s to the GOAT after he countered the Cena “Five Knuckle Shuffle.” Even Cena’s patented “Attitude Adjustment” had little to no effect ultimately on Lesnar.  All of this was too much for the 17-time champion and Lesnar’s onslaught ended when he pinned Cena, much to the shock, dismay, and heartbreak of the children and even Pacers star, Tyrese Halliburton who was stunned in the audience.

With this major setback for John Cena’s retirement tour and only five dates/appearances left before he says farewell, will he ultimately slay the ‘beast in return match?

MY WIFE IS BETTER THAN YOURS

All eyes were on AJ Lee making her triumphant return to the WWE and in-ring action in over ten years. At least for her first match back, she was doing it alongside hubby, CM Punk in a mixed tag-team match against arch enemies, Seth “Freakin” Rollins and his wife “The Man” Becky Lynch.

Photo: WWE

It was apparent Lee had some ring rust, which was to be expected, especially with her slaps that looked a bit awkward, but she still had the moves, and she along with Punk, Rollins and Lynch made this such a fun match and extremely entertaining. There were plenty of clever mash-ups of how sometimes the man and the woman would be at each other or get the other in a hold, while not making it to astray from how a mixed tags work where the men go against each other and the women wrestle each other.

Photo: WWE

If anyone was the scene-stealer in this (and each did great in-ring work) we have to give it to Becky Lynch, playing the heel to perfection. But, it was Lee as was fitting, who got the win, when she actually countered Lynch’s Manhandle Slam with her Black Widow Submission to hold and Lynch tapped out. Now on Sunday, Becky is denying ever taping out!

LA PRIMERA

The match of the night belonged to the women – when Iyo Sky battled Stephanie Vaquer for the vacant WWE Women’s World Championship belt, previously held by Naomi. As the WWE Universe knows, Naomi had to relinquish the title after she became pregnant setting the stage for this high-flying pivotal match-up.

Photo: WWE

In the end, Vaquer was able to capitalize on Sky’s injured knee, delivering a picture-perfect Spinal Tag corkscrew from the top rope for the win. Stephanie’s victory was the emotional moment of the night. This would be Vaquer’s, who is of Chilean descent, first major title in the WWE and to punctuate the moment, her father was present in the audience all the way from Chile.

Photo: WWE

The father/daughter hugged it out and cried tears of joy. This was the right move by WWE creative to let Vaquer have the chance to be the one all the women in the locker room will be chasing, even though Iyo Sky remains, in our opinion, the best female wrestler in the world right now. However, Vaquer certainly made a statement. She has arrived!

Taking to X after the match, Vaquer shared, “They call us dreamers, but we’re the ones who don’t sleep” I dreamed of this my whole life. Today I become the WWE World Champion, the first Latin American woman to achieve it. Thank you to everyone who has believed in me.”

OTHER MATCH-UPS

Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntye – the main event for the WWE Undisputed Championship. While it’s great to see Drew and Cody do their thing, it really only seemed to be on the card to remind everyone that Rhodes is QB1, ad the final image you see on ESPN, is a victorious Cody with the belt before the show went off the air. Surprisingly, there were no last minute runs-in or surprises to stop Cody’s celebration. However, during the post-show, Cody was interrupted by Seth Rollins and the two had a stare down each trying to one up the other, while holding their title belts in the air. Coming up, Rhodes vs Rollins is slated for Crown Jewel in Australia in October.

Courtesy/WWE

The Usos vs. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed – Reuniting for the first time in a tag match in over two years, Jey and Jimmy looked to be the potential feel-good favorite, especially after “Yeeting” with the crowd for an extended period of time.

Photo: WWE

However, The Brons ultimately took them down when the match had to end early. Special referee L.A. Knight had to call an audible, after Jey Uso split his own head open after he delivered a chair shot to Breakker and the chair bounced and hit him in the head. On Sunday, Jey reports he is fine, even though he was rumored to be in concussion protocol.

NOTEWORTHY MOMENT

The Undertaker arrived inside the arena on a motorcycle, and sat next to a bejeweled (that necklace!) Stephanie McMahon at her seat near ringside. Once there he surprised her by revealing that she had been selected as the first person that will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

OVERALL GRADE: B –

For the first out of the gate premium live event in its new streaming home, this one seemed lackluster with a few bright spots sprinkled in along the way.

Most Shocking: Cena’s beatdown by Lesar after entering the match surrounded by children.

Most Fun: AJ Lee and CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch

Most Disappointing: Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntrye

Most Emotional: Stephanie Vaquer and her dad

So, what did you think of WWE Wrestlepalooza? Did you enjoy the first premium live event on ESPN? What did you think of Brock’s beatdown of Cena? Vaqueer being the new Women’s champ? How do you feel AJ Lee performed in her first match in over 10 years? Comment below, but first check out the highlight video with moments from the matche

Days Of Our Lives

DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Marlena Looks Back at 50 Years in Salem

Published

on

By

The June 22 episode of Days of Our Lives reminded us all of why Deidre Hall is iconic in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans. Here we are 50 years later, and Marlena is still the heroine of the long-running soap opera, and Deidre remains one of the most most recognizable names in the history of soaps.

To pay tribute, and to look back at the life and times of Marlena, the story starts with Marlena flipping through a photo album of her with John (the late Drake Hogestyn) over the years. As she misses him dearly, she gets a knock on the door and its none other than John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).

With Andrew (Colton Little) in Salem working on a case, he sits down with Marlena, who says she can’t believe its been fifty years since she first arrived in Salem! Cue: Deidre’s first scenes on DAYS when she finds Mickey Horton (the late John Clarke) playing chess against himself inside the mental institution she worked.

THE FLASHBACKS OF MARLENA’S LIFE

From there, viewers definitely got the cliff notes version of the history of Marlena and entrenched within them, some of the biggest moments in Deidre’s enduring run.

Paul thinks he is looking at 70s, and early 80s Marlena while going through her scrapbook, but he is actually looking at her twin, Samantha (Andrea Hall)Cue: when Marlena confronted Samantha about impersonating her, and then later getting a call on her radio show from the Salem Strangler (Jack Coleman as Jake Kostichek) who killed Samantha thinking it was Marlena.

In the present, Belle (Martha Madison) has arrived at this time to meet up with Paul, unaware of this trip down memory lane. She wants to go over the findings in the chess board mystery Stefano willed to Marlena and John, in private with him, since Marlena previously said she wanted nothing to do with it.

Back to the history lesson, Marlena speaks highly of Don Craig and even though their marriage didn’t work out, she could find a path forward with the new love her life, Roman Brady. (Wayne Northrop however is never shown, possibly to keep the story focused on John as Roman for confusion sakes?)

Paul sees a photo of a young Carrie (Christie Clark) in the album and Marlena says she was such a godsend after losing her baby. In fact, Marlena says caring for Carrie prepared her for her having and raising her own twins, Eric and Sami. Cue: The twin visiting Marlena in the hospital.

JOHN AND MARLENA’S LOVE CONQUERED ALL

Then, in a way to get through and incorporate the wild storylines only Marlena could have been in, she tells Belle and Paul, she has been through so much in her life, how lucky she was to find John, and some of the most unbelievable experiences no one could imagine. Cue: Marlena possessed by the devil and levitating from the bed. Next, John confronting Marlena being the Salem Stalker, where she admits she killed Alice Horton, pretends she needs help, then pulls a gun on her beloved John!

The comment is made by Paul and Marlena, that she literally has been to hell and back and she could not have survived were it not for her beloved John. Cue the big emotional highpoint clips; The Pier Scene! Marlena steps out of the fog when John sees her from a distance. After believing she was dead for four years, here she was before him in one of the greatest reunions in a soap opera love story in history. What followed were other times of the life of times of Jarlena.

MARLENA’S ‘GIFT’ FROM STEFANO HAS A NEW CLUE

When Marlena makes a brief exit to the other room, Belle fills in Paul on the chess set Stefano left her mother and the photo of the Lire. Paul said he will investigate. Marlena comes back into the room and overhears, and says to promise her if things get dangerous he will back off, she does not want anyone hurt by Stefano’s games.

As the episode comes to a conclusion, it’s just Belle and Marlena going through the photo album giggling about 70s hairstyles and all the memories. Belle speaks on the impact Marlena has had in everyone’s lives, and that she is both the heart of their family and the heart of Salem.

An end card comes up acknowledging Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary as Marlena, and we fade to black.

So, what did you think of Marlena’s walk down memory lane? Were you happy to see the flashback clips utilized throughout? Were you touched by the scenes and the performance of Deidre Hall? Let us know what you thought of Deidre’s 50th anniversary episode via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sidwell Surfaces; A Twist in Britt’s Condition

Published

By

On the Thursday, June 18 episode of General Hospital, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) makes his shocking return right in Port Charles, after fleeing (thanks to Cassius) to supposedly parts unknown to escape capture for trying to kill Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis).

How does he show up in town? First, Ezra (Daniel Cosgrove) gets a text from Jacinda (Paige Herschell) to meet in his hotel room. Ezra thinks the two are going to have a sexcapade so he puts champagne on ice for his favorite escort.

Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. Ezra’s excitement turns towards fear as instead of Jacinda, Sidwell is standing in front of him. Next, Sidwell blackmails Boyle telling him he has plenty of leverage he can use against him. Sidwell wants to use Ezra to help him takedown, Sonny (Maurice Benard), Lucas, Laura (Genie Francis) and Cullum.

ARE SIDWELL’S DAYS NUMBERED?

Meanwhile, Sonny confides in his brother, Ric (Rick Hearst). He says he knows who killed Marco an he is going to use that intel to lure Sidwell out of hiding.  Sonny also shares he is going to kill Sidwell, and handle this by himself. He gave the PCPD a chance, but they failed to nab Sidwell for good and lock him up.

Sonny also has been tracking the whereabouts of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Rocco (Finn Carr) through Brick, and learned they took a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then boarded a fairy to take them somewhere off the island.

BRITT’S ‘SYMPTOMS’ RETURN

Turns out, Britt and Rocco are hiding out in the British Virgin Islands. Britt set up Rocco with a burner phone and a VPN on her tablet, that is not traceable. Rocco reads on the tablet about Lucas’ shooting. Britt starts to have the shakes and passes out. When she comes to, Britt won’t let Rocco call a doctor, but he uses his phone to step on the balcony and call Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and ask for help. Charlotte looks shocked to hear from her brother as Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) looks on!

However, Joe (Jonathan Bennett) could be the one to put two and two together! While at General Hospital and after questioning Lucas about a syringe he found that was in someone’s possession. the toxicology report showed traces of saline solution, not actual medication. He asks Dr. Jones, why someone would inject themselves with saline? Lucas responds saline is harmless and would have no effect on someone.

So, does this mean that this entire time, Britt has been led to believe that the medication she was taking to treat her Huntington’s disease was placebo? Has Britt been lied to into believing she is dying? Is something else wrong with her instead?

Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below, and if you are ready for Sidwell to finally get his comeuppance from Sonny! But first, watch the scenes where Sidwell comes out of hiding and blackmails Ezra Boyle.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante and ‘Nathan’ Have It Out, Valentin and Carly Share Passionate Moments Which May Be Their Last

Published

on

By

On the June 16 episode of General Hospital, the PCPD under acting police commissioner Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) is in a bit of mess and does not go unnoticed by ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor).

First, there is the whole Chase (Josh Swickard) defending Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) over Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), who he arrested for allegedly tossing Willow in the waters next to the Quartermaine boathouse. Turner has had it with Chase’s good guy act and how he tampered with evidence in her case against Willow for shooting Drew.

Later, Dante and Justine question “Nathan” (Ryan Paevey) about Sidwell’s escape while in his custody. Turner is not buying his cover story that he was ambushed by Sidwell and his men. Once “Nathan” left the interrogation room, Turner went in on Dante about having “Nathan” on the force after seven years away, and Chase she views as a “dirty cop.”

However, Dante defends both of his officers, but Justine warned that “Nathan” and Chase’s behavior would reflect poorly on Dante as commissioner and she should really think about that. Later, Dante has a terse confrontation with “Nathan” on how he botched a prison transport and that he better watch his back as Justine is one step away from turning this over to Internal Affairs.

COP MADNESS

Next, “Nathan” apologizes for the way he handled the situation with Rocco and says he feels badly. But then in the twist, Dante said that he was grateful that “Nathan” had been there for his son in his time of need (referencing after Rocco shot Cullum and covered it up).

Then, there’s the newest police officer in the precinct, Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett). He may actually be on to “Nathan’s” double life when he questions him about a syringe found in Britt’s room at Bobbie’s. “Nathan” made up a story to counter Joe’s, that he was not aware that his sister was taking anything for her Huntington’s disease diagnosis. Joe called the forensic department lab wanting to know what drug was exactly in the syringe.

BEFORE YOU GO

At Carly’s (Laura Wright), Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) tells her that he must travel to Geneva to speak to the head of the WSB, named Z. Valentin feels it’s the only way to save Josslyn if he informs Z about Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) being a double agent. Valentin shares with Carly that he has to stop Cullum from bringing his dangerous cold fusion device online. Carly is beside herself. She doesn’t want Valentin to sacrifice himself by turning himself into the organization who has made him a fugitive in the first place. Valentin stands firm that he must meet Z in person.

Knowing that revealing himself to the WSB meant he was likely going back to prison, Valentin asked Carly if she’d get in touch with his daughter, Charlotte so he could say good-bye to her. Next, Carly and Valentin make their way to the bedroom to make love, which may be for the very last time, if Valentin is caught and put back in Steinmauer Maximum Security Prison.

Courtesy/ABC

CAUGHT BY CULLUM

At the same time while at Wydemere, Cullum is talking with one of his WSB operatives. Now, he is pondering if Valentin and Sidwell were working together all along.  Next, Cullum entertains the idea of involving the FBI to locate Britt and Rocco. He says he plans to kill them both once he knows of their whereabouts. Cullum sees the only other threat to the completion of the cold fusion project to be Anna Devane.

Cullum wants to track the location of the unidentified person who called the private clinic in France trying to get in touch with Anna, while pretending to be Kevin Collins. When the agent came back with a report, he says it emanated from a cell tower near Shoreline Road. It’s in the that moment that a light bulb goes on for Cullum! Valentin is in Port Charles and hiding at Carly’s!

So, what do you think of the PCPD cops, Chase, Joe and “Nathan?” Who should Dante fire? Do you think Valentin will go the run?Are you digging Carly and Valentin’s relationship and want it to continue, especially with Finola Hughes on her way back as Anna next month on-screen? Weigh-in via the comment section, and in case you missed it, you can check out our latest interview with Dominic Zamprogna below from his appearance on the Michael Fairman Channel, where he talks the PCPD cops, Rocco on the run, and more.
