Y&R Begins Teen Cyberbullying Storyline With Summer Newman At The Epicenter!

After One Life to Live’s amazing teen cyberbullying plot, The Young and the Restless is beginning to weave their own cautionary tale of bullying, beginning this coming Monday November 5th!
According to TV Guide, “look for the story to feature Summer Newman, the troubled teen played by Hunter King. Summer will create a fake identity on FacePlace — that’s Y&R‘s version of Facebook — in order to friend Jamie (Daniel Polo), the boy being mentored by Genoa City cop Ronan Malloy (Jeff Branson)!”
“Summer is in such a screwed-up state over the divorce of her parents that she misguidedly decides to hurt Ronan by hurting this kid he cares so much about,” says the soap’s Emmy-winning head writer Josh Griffith. “She uses her phony online persona called ‘Brittni’ to form a relationship with Jamie and draw information out of him — deeply personal and hurtful stuff about his past troubles with the law — and then she blasts it out to everyone on FacePlace. She’ll also be using texting and instant messaging to disparage him further.”
Of course as in any good soap there is a twist on a twist, and Summer starts to like the guy she is tormenting! “She realizes he’s a kid who’s had a really terrible life and that she’s doing things to him he doesn’t deserve,” says Griffith. “But, at that point, it’s way too late. The tiger is out of the cage.”
But what looks to make this even more upsetting is that Fen Baldwin (Max Ehrich) who is also into Summer, becomes her partner in crime and he will take things a few dangerous steps further once he sees Summer’s growing fondness for Jamie. Apparently that will eventually dovetail this story into involving Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman) that will have huge ramifications for both the Newmans and the Baldwins. In addition, CBS plans to air anti-bullying PSA’s throughout the storyline.
So soapers, what do you think of the Genoa City Teen Cyberbullying storyline on paper? Will you be tuning-in to see what goes down, especially since bullying is a very prevalent issue these days? Let us know!
Can’t wait to see it. Bullying is a big problem these days, and this will bring great awareness to the cause. This will definately be a story for families to watch.
Bulling has always been a problem, it was around in the 60’s also but was named something else.
Yes it has Beti agree . Lauren on this soap use to pick on Traci for years about her weight both actresses were incredible Beth Maitland won an emmy for it this gal is very weak you do not throw a major story like this to someone who was 6 years old three months ago. And do not even get me started on the actor who plays Fen.
I don’t agree with this direction with Summer. There’s so many things she could do and this sounds boring.Been a fan since late seventies and I hardly recognize this soap anymore.Thought they were going to make it better, not so sure now.Liked the other Summer better, she was more passionate and believable. Just my thoughts ….
I don’t have a problem with the storyline itself, but I guess for me it is hard to reconcile the sweet little girl Summer was a few months ago to this grown teenager who has become so cold and mean and unlikable. For a character who is going to rooted into the history of the story it is a bit of a risk to make her the “villain” Perhaps if she was the one being bullied instead of doing the bullying it would have made more sense to me. But I am willing to give it a chance, see how they bring this character back to someone who has some redeeming qualities, because right now I don’t like her one bit.
I am not a big fan of sweet children being rapidly and jarringly aged to teenagers with a chip on the shoulder.
I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THIS NEW STORYLINE THAT HAS TO DO WITH CYBER-BULLYING WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN THERE PARENTS FIND OUT WHAT SUMMER & FEN ARE DOING & TO SEE THAT SUMMER IS HAVING A HARD TIME WITH HER PARENTS DIVORCE CAN WAIT TO SEE WHAT THEY WILL DO TO THIS STORYLINE.
there goes hollywood again. lecturing us plebs on bullying yet “tolerant and progressive” limo liberals of hollywood love bullying those who disagree w/ their politics. perhaps y&r should educate its most popular alum eva longoria on cyber bullying. she did retweet that any conservative woman and racial minority is “stupid” if they support a “racist and mysoginistic” romney who she called a crude slang for a woman’s vagina. war on women anybody? “classy” eva was already told to step down as the co-chair of obama’s campaign re-election but of course she’d never do that. look at who she’s campaigning for? obama openly calls romney a bull ishter! the obama campaign and its mainstream media and hollywood propaganda arms love their letter b: binders full of women. bumps in the road. bayonets. big bird. birth control paid for by someone else. bull ishter. and of course their favorite b is bullying. obama’s bullying chiefs michael savage openly bullies and heckles high school students who are young enough to be his children bec they disagree w/ his opinions on relligion. michelangelo signorile told conservative gays to commit suicide if they vote for romney! where’s the backlash from the left? where’s hollywood’s response to this kind of hateful gay bullying? i guess bullying gay conservatives and telling them to kill themselves is acceptable bullying for hypocritical hollywood! the mainstream media is the same. anderson cooper laughs mockingly at conservatives by calling them tea baggers. i guess anderson thinks it’s hilarious to bully conservatives by calling them tea baggers. what an idjet. he bashes a potential audience segment for his talk show w/c along w/ ac 360 already have such low ratings. ac 360 isn’t even shown on cnn international anymore probably bec of its disastrous ratings. now his daytime talk show’s been axed while kelly ripa already has a new host! gigglesnort!
the point is this: the lamestream media and hollyweird should stop lecturing people abt tolerance and bullying bec of all the hypocritical bullying coming from them!
I thought the same thing here we go again!
This makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever! This political rambling has nothing to do with Y&R at all.
This isn’t the place for political rants. If you don’t like the show, stop watching it. Incidentally, people who share opinions you don’t agree with aren’t “bullying” you.
but hollywood is very politicized. they don’t write storylines for the sake of entertainment. they write storylines as liberal propaganda. hollywood loves to infuse their storylines w/ their false liberal rhetoric to brainwash people. why shouldn’t their be an aggressive pushback against these tactics? if hollywood was really concerned w/ bullying then they should chastise the hateful and vile actors and actresses who bully people that disagree w/ them politically on twitter. will there ever be a storyline like that? nope bec that would besmirch hypocritical hollywood. most of hollywood’s bullying storylines demonize conservatives and portray liberals as those being bullied when majority of the bullying comes from liberals. you think y&r came up w/ a bullying storyline organically? nope. they’re following the trends. hollywood is nothing if not superficial and it loves to follow whatever is trendy. and nothing’s trendier than bullying. isn’t holltywood’s goal to begin a dialogue abt bullying whenever they write these storylines? thus if hollywood regularly unleashes a fusillade of sanctimonious lectures thru their fictional storylines abt bullying then people should push back against hollywood’s hypocrisy.
OLTL already did this storyline a year and-an-half ago when Jack Manning bullied Shane Morasco online on MyFace (Llanview’s version of MySpace and Facebook) and in school, which led Shane to almost commit suicide by wanting to jump off the school’s roof!
Nobody could do this story as good as OLTL did it.
Totally agree! The OLTL writers were brillant the way they wrote this story and the acting was superb.
I agree.
That was so well done, especially the young actor portraying Shane. Sorry, but I don’t think these young performers have the chops to pull this storyline off. Hope I’m wrong.
I do not the direction of Y&R..
A bully story will bore the bejeuses out of me..
(I am not fan of teenage stories no matter what the subject)
Look forward to this story, the actress playing Summer and the actor playing Noah are amazing. The new regime at Y&R have made drastic much needed changes in a short time. I watch every day and they leave me wanting more. Thank goodness MAB has left the building with her terrible stories and ridiculous characters. Love the Newmans and Abbotts and the corporate world.
I can’t wait to see how this pens out…………
I was drawn into OLTL’s bullying storyline because the ADULTS involved. Blair, Gigi, Rex and the kid’s fantastic acting made it compelling. The Y & R teens have been recast so many times I just don’t care anymore. Their parents are so self absorbed and the only thing they do is bed-hop so I all I can say about Y & R is I’m bored and totally disinterested.
Ditto.
Bullying is a timely issue that does need addressing – I don’t see a problem with using the soaps to tackle it …. as long as it’s done in a responsible and respectful manner.
Having said that – I DON’T LIKE the fact that Summer and Fen have been SORA-ED to portray this….I don’t particularly like the actors portraying them either.
I think they’re too “green” to tackle this storyline.
Cannot stand the new Summer, Fenn or Noah. Noah looks like he could be on “Jersey Shore” Where did he get his looks & accent? He is so unbelievable as Nick & Sharon’s son. Hasn’t Summer caused enough pain & trouble by killing Adam & Chelsea’s baby? They need to get rid of all 3 of these characters-save the money & spend the storyline time on adults. Although right now this show seems to have gotten itself into a corner-I mean how many times are Victor & Nikki gonna get married? How many times will Jack get everything he wants only to lose it all again? Phyllis trashes her life over & over. Adam is not far behind her. What the hell is going on with Sharon? I don’t enjoy watching her breakdown every day-it is uncomfortable to watch. Everyone has been married to (or slept with) everyone & everyone has worked everywhere. There is nothing fresh here anymore. But I still love it & support it & watch every day. I watch every single soap still on the air.
At very least Gloria – I wish they would bring back Kevin Schmidt…..next to the young boy they had playing him before he too was SORA -ED ,Kevin was the best Noah. :S
Soaps rarely get teen stories right. My two faves were the Jason/Karen/Jagger/Brenda mash up from 1992-93, and Shawn/Belle/Mimi/Philip stories from Days from 1999-2002. The stories were just about teenage angst, first crushes, dances, growing up, etc. There were no dead babies or pregnancies or contrived bullying for the sake of story. Yes, Chloe was picked on, but it did not reek of “let’s jump on a bandwagon and insert a bullying story because it’s topical.”. Teens on soaps are best when they are just teens, not mini-Phyllis’ in the making. Teens are not into hatching elaborate plots against the adults in their lives. They are more concerned with their friends, and parties, and dating, and final exams. There is enough drama in all of that without foisting adult storylines onto them. Give us a chance to care about these people before grafting Cruel Intentions onto them.
I dont think the new Summer has the acting ability to pull much off, let alone this.
This is the easy way out, to make Summer as unlikaeable as her mother.
Neither actor playing Summer or Fen has impressed me yet (though I wasn’t thrilled by the previous Summer, either, truthfully) and I have my doubts on their ability to carry a heavy story like this. What will or could make the storyline standout would be to have both Lauren’s past behavior toward Tracey brought into it and Phyllis’s constant bullying of those who disagree with her….it is her reaction to her fears. Kind of using their children to hold a mirror up to them (Tracey & Lauren did make peace with each other years ago and Lauren did apologize for her taunting).
As long as it’s sporadic. Frankly, story doesn’t interest me. I can see how it might have an impression on viewers so it could be could in that respect, but as far as story on the show, no. Neither Summer nor Fen have impressed me. Summer actress is way too old looking. And Fen seems really geeky. The less of them I see the better.
Well Y&R hasn’t done a proper Social Issue storyline in years. William Bell would approve, however what remains to be seen can Josh weave it like Mr. Bell.

‘Brilliant Minds’ Officially Canceled After 2 Seasons at NBC; DAYS Alum Al Calderon, OLTL Alum Teddy Sears and Zachary Quinto Among the Cast
After languishing on the bubble for months, on Friday, NBC handed down the decision and canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.
Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
The final six episodes of what will now be the end of its second and final season were already set to air beginning on May 27, after being pulled off the network schedule in February as viewership saw a steep decline. Brilliant Minds second season became the lowest-rated drama on linear TV viewing, which didn’t bode well fo a network renewal, although it had its hard core fan base.

There are some exceptional notables in the cast along with the talented Quinto that includes Days of Our Lives alum, Al Calderon (ex-Javi Hernandez) who joined the series in its second season as Nurse Nico Silva, and One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) who plays Wolf’s love interest and fellow physician, Dr. Josh Nichols.
The rest of the talented cast includes: Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, and Brian Altemus.
In an ironic twist of fate on Thursday, April 30, Days of Our Lives finally revealed the actor who was Al Calderon’s successor in the role of Javi, when they announced that actor Jacob Martinez had now stepped into the role. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episode, Calderon left in the spring of 2025, but will be seen in the part for the final part this month, and then on June 20, Martinez debuts as Salem’s new Javi.
Taking to his Instagram with a sorrowful and heartfelt post on the Brilliant Minds cancellation was Teddy Sears who wrote, “Thank you, Brilliant Minds. I got the call today and I didn’t want to hear, but I knew that it would come, You have to be a particular vintage to quote Don Henley from memory, but that’s the line that came to mind earlier today after I got off the phone with our inimitable showrunner Michael Grassi who delivered the news that NBC has cancelled the series”.

Photo: NBC
Sears continued, “To say that I feel sad to be moving on from these stories, this character, and this cast and crew just doesn’t paint the entire picture. I’m sad, sure. But I’m also deeply grateful that I got hired to play this part, so proud of the stories we told, and the other actors I got to play alongside. I’m excited to see what comes next, what adventures await, and terrified to be without a professional home. A quick and heartfelt thank you to everyone, all over the globe, who found us and found themselves in us, in our characters and in our stories. We wouldn’t have been able to tell them without you. And we still have 6 fresh episodes yet to air, and I do hope you tune in enjoy the remainder of the series. They’re the best we’ve done.”
As he wrapped up his sentiments, Sears signed off with, “The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I figured out I have to learn again. I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But everything changes…Thank you, Brilliant Minds.”
The medical drama was created and executive produced by Michael Grassi alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra.

Taking to his Instagram to celebrate the nominations, GH’s Bennett, enthused, “3 Critic Choice Nominations! I’m so proud of the FINDING MR CHRISTMAS and to be in the company of all the legends in all these categories is so surreal! Congrats to Hallmark Channel and to our nominated cast and nominated show and everyone who made this magical show possible. This is crazy! This gives FMC 6 Critics Choice nominations in 2 years. Not bad for a little show on Hallmark Channel. What are your thoughts on our show?” Jumping first into the comment thread was one of his new GH co-stars, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) who expressed, “Yeah buddy!!!🔥🔥”
In the series, Bennett, the host and co-creator spends eight weeks guiding 10 aspiring actors through a series of “festive face-offs” and acting challenges alongside actors like soap opera notables, Hunter King (ex-Summer, Y&R) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). Along the way, they develop their skills and a bond with one another. The show, which is available on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Plus, highlights LGBTQ+ representation with openly gay contestants vying to be the next Hallmark star.
It should be noted that Traitors received the most Critics Choice Real TV Award nominations with 6 nods, followed by Dancing with the Stars with 4.
Bennett is very familiar to daytime fans having started his career as JR Chandler on All My Children in 2000-2001, before landing the part of Aaron Samuels in the motion picture, Mean Girls in 2004 starring Lindsay Lohan, which would become his breakout performance.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?
On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.
As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.
Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Courtesy/ABC
Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.
BROTHERLY LOVE?
Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”
With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”
BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE
Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”
So, who do you think will be the person to blow Cassius’ cover? Will it be Britt herself? Josslyn? Liesl? Brennan? Nina? Lulu? Rocco, Maxie, Cullum or someone else? Let us know your pick in the comment section.
