Y&R's Eric Braeden Tweets To Clarify Statement: "I Was Never Upset About Storyline, But Josh Griffith Leaving The Show!"

The one and only Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) of The Young and the Restless took to Twitter today, after some tweets from one of his followers freelance celebrity writer, Rachel Monaco, and a few others,  to clarify his position on the recent news of Josh Griffith departing as head writer of the number one soap, and relating that he is not upset over current or recent storylines!

Eric Braeden tweeted: “I was never upset about SL but JG’s leaving the show! There have been too many changes.  In NO way did I criticize writing.  At no time did I ever complain about storyline contrary to claims otherwise.  I LOVE the show, but don’t like changes! I have nothing but the deepest respect for writers, they perform the most difficult job in showbiz and get the least credit. I’ve acted in all Media. Nothing is as difficult as the making of a Soap Opera. We do 80 pages a/day in 1 take Cast & Crew do a phenomenal job.”

So what do you think about Braeden’s statement?  And reminding his loyal audience and those of the soaps, that the writing job in a daytime soaps is one of the toughest gigs around?   Share your thoughts below!

Why is it when Eric tweets it’s in the soap media? I knew what he meant and he wasn’t criticising the writing..

well, there are people who read things without comprehension and/or see what was said to fit the way they personally imagine it to be..
Then there are people who thrive on twisting comments to turn them into sensationalism..

Because he’s Eric Braeden. If there’s something going on at Y&R and he tweets about it, it’s news just because of who he is.

I believe that victor, nikki, neil, phyllis, and all of the regular actors, need to stay, and stop trying to replace them…I see it happenin on Y&R and the B&B…if the hiring doesn’t stop, there will be no more of these 2 soaps..it”ll be like the edge of night or Ryans hope, etc…CBS has done such a good job,as soon as it first aired ,I have been a loyal fan, from the beginning, and would like to KEEP it that way..TOO many Changes with the original actors bein replaced, and that my friend,is a big NO NO

I read what Eric B said and I didn’t take it as he was misleading us or talking bad about writers. I’m glad Eric B came back and put others hopefully to rest. I have a love/hate relationship with Victor Newman, this makes for a great actor. Thank you Eric B for keeping Y&R exciting. Thank you to all the actors and characters they play.

I love Victor Newman and all the actors on Y&R, I just hope that at the moment none of them are replaced or changed, the original actors are what make the show so fantastic because they are so good at playing their character, it is so sad that Jeanne died, I will so miss her, so to me the show is still my favorite and I have total respect for all the writers and the great job that they are doing and the great job that all the actor’s are doing. My all time favorite soap opera and show. Thankyou… Read more »

Well if he was upset about the story line would he say so? Most actors are professional enough to keep their complaints to themselves and not voice opinions on stories on social media or elsewhere. And like any long term employee faced with new management changes– it is unsettling to say the least, so at least he is honest about it. As for soap opera writing– ITA , it is not an easy task and doesn’t get much credit or respect. The writers are like the umpires of daytime dramas– they get booed at a lot for their calls, but… Read more »

I, too, understood what Eric meant by his comment. Someitmes I think people are just LOOKING for trouble to make “good copy” or to support their own views. Eric is loyal to his show and his fans–one who questions that must not know him very well.

Eric Braeden is Never critical of Y&R, that is my opinion, and I believe that to be true. He knows what an extremely awesome task it is to be a writer on a Soap, or to be a writer period, but especially on a Soap. Y&R, since the very beginning has had extraordinary writers, that one of the reasons why it has been the #1 Soap Opera for decades. When a writer decides to leave the show that can seem daunting, a sudden change, and who likes change? I agree with Mr. Braeden 100%. I believe that he is Always… Read more »

I admire Eric Braeden and have watched him for years. He cuts through the chase and delivers his thoughts with a few but powerful words. I believe that he doesn’t like change as it is hard for him and for myself. That is a normal human reaction that most people deal with from time-to-time. Hats off to Eric but also the many hard hours the writers put in. I don’t know which is worse for the writers, the hours or the job of pleasing the viewers? Thankfully they have produced a great soap. A toast to many more years to… Read more »

If Eric Braden thought the writing was OK, it means the writers were setting things up for “Victor” to hog our screens again.

In my opinion, EB’s “likes and dislikes” have always been self-serving – so I don’t pay any attention to what he has to say.

EB should not be questioned, he should not have to explain his comments to anyone. EB is quite a gentleman and very good actor. What he has said about writers is so very true, without writers there would be no soaps. And without good writers we would not have great soaps.

The writer do have a tough job, trying to keep that soap number one is not easy. Writing enough stuff to keep Victor not Eric a mean SOB is a task in itself, but I love you Victor. I hope you have no plans to leave Y and R, it certainly will not be the same.

The writers job is tough, there is a lot of pressure on them to make the Y & R the top. It is unfortunate that they do get the least credit.
If it wasn’t for them writing the story lines I more likely would not watch.
Three cheers for the writers.

Stop with all the changes! First we lose Katherine, then Phyllis. One we can’t do any thing about but the other we can. BRING BACK PHYLLIS!!!! She needs to take care of Sharon. The writers are doing a fantastic job but if we keep changing out the actor, we will be loosing viewers, thus loosing another great soap. I love Y&R. Please stop the changes……

I agree about so many changes. Can they not keep anyone married on this show. When is Sharon ever going to get what’s coming with the cops I’m sick how she gets away with everything.
I was sorry to see Phyllis leave I would have liked to see her and Jack together because they are a great match for each other. Are they recasting Phyllis, because there is a big hole there now.

I agree with Eric. He should know he has been famous in movies and Young and restless would not be the same without him. I do wish they would bring Ridge back. There are other changes that have been made that I don’t like. But I will never quit watching it. I do hope the babys paternity is revealed, they are all so jealouse of Victors Son when I believe he has a heart of gold. Sharon must be off her meds. I have become one disgruntled and unhappy Y&R fan. I’ve watched this show since the first day it aired and we viewers aren’t always going to be happy with the changes that occur. But in recent years, some of the changes have been waaaaaaaay beyond stupid (just my opinion!) For example, Sharon sleeping her way through the Newman men, culminating with her marriage to Victor! Did the writers really think the viewers would buy that relationship? Viewers have known for years that Jack Abbott fathered Summer but suddenly, Nick Newman is the biological father! Again, did the writers really think… Read more »

All My Children and Guiding Light Vet, Gil Rogers Passes Away

Gil Rogers, who played one of the all-time most dastardly villains in soaps on All My Children and was the on-screen father to the one and only Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer) on Guiding Light, has died at age 87.

News came via his daughter, Amanda Rogers on her Facebook page, relating that Gil passed away on March 2nd.

The actor had played Tad (Michael E. Knight) and Jenny’s (Kim Delaney) father, Ray Gardner on All My Children from 1977-1978 making multiple appearance though 2001, then later as Hawk Shayne on Guiding Light from 1985-1992 making multiple appearance through 2009.

Gil also appeared on Another World, Search for Tomorrow and The Doctors.

In her post, Amanda wrote: “Gil Rogers died this morning. As you all know, my dad was awesome. He was my best friend, confidant, mentor and just an awesome dad. He came to pick me and  Charlotte Whitaker Zdanowski up at clubs at 2AM in our teens to keep us safe, and drank bourbon with me every day since moving out here 2 years ago. He was welcoming and kind, funny and gregarious, a shameless flirt and a fierce protector. He loved his dinners with grandkids and endured animated movies and discussions about pokemon. And I miss him so terribly already. He died in his sleep, without pain or fear. I am so grateful to have had such a great father and to have spent these past 2 years with him every day.”

Check out this vintage scene below from All My Children where Ray played by Rogers blows up the Martin house.

Now share your remembrances of Gil’s performances and along with condolences for his family in the comment section.

Chris Harrison In First Interview Since ‘Bachelor’ Controversy Says He Wants To Be Back as Host; But GMA’s Michael Strahan Says Apology was a “Surface Response”

Thursday’s Good Morning America featured the highly-publicized first interview with ‘Bachelor’ franchise host and executive producer, Chris Harrison, since he stepped away from the show following his controversial remarks on current Bachelor contestant Rachel Kirkconnell, amid the airing of a season that has seen the first-ever Black male lead of the reality series, Matt James.

Speaking with GMA co-host, Michael Strahan, Harrison spoke of remarks he made during his interview with ex-Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay on Extra that sparked the firestorm.

Harrison admitted the words he spoke to Lindsey were “in a manner that perpetuates racism,” adding “I am an imperfect man I made a mistake and I own that. I believe that mistake doesn’t reflect who I am or what I stand for.”

The incident began when photos surfaced on social media of Kirkconnell at an Old South-themed party that she attended back in 2018, along with allegations she “liked” many Instagram posts that were racist in nature, and what many viewed as Harrison coming to her defense in this time of what he then called “cancel culture”.

On GMA, Chris expressed: “Antebellum parties are not OK,  Past, present, future, knowing what that represents is unacceptable.”

He also apologized to Lindsay, who had to shut down her Instagram account because of viral vitriol being sent her way over the incident with Harrison, adding this message to the public, “Anyone who is throwing hate towards Rachel Lindsay, please stop. It’s unacceptable.”

Photo: ABC

As to how he is trying to make amends, Harrison shared: “I made a mistake and I own that, Racism, oppression, these are big dynamic problems and they take serious work. I am committed to that work.”  The longtime Bachelor host then announced he is working with race educator Dr. Eric Dyson who has taught him about the idea of “counsel, not cancel”.

Chris says he plans to be back hosting the reality-dating series, expressing:  “I plan to be back. I want to be back.  This interview is not the finish line. There is much more work to be done.”

Following the exclusive, Michael Strahan described his conversation with Chris Harrison stating: “His apology is his apology, but it felt like it got nothing more than a surface response on any of this. Obviously, he is the man who wants to clearly stay on the show, but only time will tell if there is any meaning behind his words.”

So, what do you think of Chris Harrison’s responses during his first interview since the controversy? Should he return to hosting The Bachelor franchise? Comment below. But first check out his GMA exclusive.

GH’s Wes Ramsey Makes Statement on Criticism, Social Media, and Professionalism

General Hospital’s Wes Ramsey, who portrays polarizing character, Peter August on the ABC daytime drama series, responded to a recent take on his role from cast mate, Tristan Rogers (Scorpio) when a video made its way through social media.

The video was from a Cameo appearance, where Rogers offered an assessment of the Peter August storyline and expressed that while he knows Ramsey is a strong actor, he felt he was “wrong for the character” being that Peter was the son of the evil Faison played by Anders Hove.

Rogers also came to the defense of Ramsey and shared: “Don’t be too hard on Wes Ramsey. He’s got himself into a horrible storyline, and the storyline is the fault of the show. What they’ve literally done is they’ve painted themselves into a corner, and they don’t know how to get out of it.”

Currently, Peter’s story is front and center on GH with his wedding to Maxie (Kirsten Storms), and the fallout from all of the character’s dirty deeds.

Now Ramsey took to his Instagram account to address what transpired and his thoughts on the perils of social media, professionalism and acting, expressing: “Actors are storytellers, shapeshifters, chameleons. We’re also in the business of cultivating trust bc that’s how the best work is brought to life. We have to trust our imaginations, our instincts. We have to trust our fellow actors, because without them, there’s no scene to play. In the collaborative efforts of bringing any show to life, we also have to trust our directors each day to steer the arch of our story (like a conductor with a symphony) & trust our writers who are tasked with composing the symphonies we play out. I came up in a world of classical theater, where trusting the play, text, story is essential to the tightrope balancing act of making magic.  You will never hear me critique (on any public platform) the people responsible for the creative opportunities I enjoy each day. Without the trust of my writers, directors, producers & fellow actors, it would be impossible to live out my dreams. My job (& my only job) is to bring fearlessness, playfulness & passionate conviction to what has been created for me. My aim is to stretch myself (beyond the limits of where I think my boundaries may lye) each time I’m entrusted with material that allows those boundaries to be tested.

Every actor must believe they are the right person for their part or they will never achieve their potential, let alone surpass it. I was raised a gentleman & have two wonderful parents to thank for that, however, my polite personality (while rendering me easy to get along with on set) should have little bearing on my caliber of performance nor my castability as a professional.  I am leery of the pitfalls of social media & believe there are advantages to maintaining some mystery (even as a public figure) but I will always defend & protect what I hold dear (my job & my career) when they are publicly challenged, especially by those closest to me, whom I love & respect. Please know I bear no ill will. As a society, we are all still learning the full ramifications of living in an internet dominated culture. To all my many fans out there who offer encouragement & support, I hear you & am grateful for you. I’m having a blast… 🙂. Onward we go.”
