Y&R's Eric Braeden Tweets To Clarify Statement: "I Was Never Upset About Storyline, But Josh Griffith Leaving The Show!"

The one and only Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) of The Young and the Restless took to Twitter today, after some tweets from one of his followers freelance celebrity writer, Rachel Monaco, and a few others, to clarify his position on the recent news of Josh Griffith departing as head writer of the number one soap, and relating that he is not upset over current or recent storylines!
Eric Braeden tweeted: “I was never upset about SL but JG’s leaving the show! There have been too many changes. In NO way did I criticize writing. At no time did I ever complain about storyline contrary to claims otherwise. I LOVE the show, but don’t like changes! I have nothing but the deepest respect for writers, they perform the most difficult job in showbiz and get the least credit. I’ve acted in all Media. Nothing is as difficult as the making of a Soap Opera. We do 80 pages a/day in 1 take Cast & Crew do a phenomenal job.”
So what do you think about Braeden’s statement? And reminding his loyal audience and those of the soaps, that the writing job in a daytime soaps is one of the toughest gigs around? Share your thoughts below!
Why is it when Eric tweets it’s in the soap media? I knew what he meant and he wasn’t criticising the writing..
I did to. What do you want to make a bet JFP called him upstairs this is beyond stupid. We are still living in a free country!
well, there are people who read things without comprehension and/or see what was said to fit the way they personally imagine it to be..
Then there are people who thrive on twisting comments to turn them into sensationalism..
🙂
Because he’s Eric Braeden. If there’s something going on at Y&R and he tweets about it, it’s news just because of who he is.
Exactly hat I was thinking.
agreed Michael so very true BUT he is right there are way too many changes way to fast
I believe that victor, nikki, neil, phyllis, and all of the regular actors, need to stay, and stop trying to replace them…I see it happenin on Y&R and the B&B…if the hiring doesn’t stop, there will be no more of these 2 soaps..it”ll be like the edge of night or Ryans hope, etc…CBS has done such a good job,as soon as it first aired ,I have been a loyal fan, from the beginning, and would like to KEEP it that way..TOO many Changes with the original actors bein replaced, and that my friend,is a big NO NO
I read what Eric B said and I didn’t take it as he was misleading us or talking bad about writers. I’m glad Eric B came back and put others hopefully to rest. I have a love/hate relationship with Victor Newman, this makes for a great actor. Thank you Eric B for keeping Y&R exciting. Thank you to all the actors and characters they play.
I am glad he tweeted back to set things straight. I don’t believe rumors. Unless I hear it from the Actors mouth I do not believe them.
Eric B tells it like it is. I do not find it offensive, he did not criticizie just stated how he feels. This was America last time I checked…Way to go Mr. Braeden
I love Victor Newman and all the actors on Y&R, I just hope that at the moment none of them are replaced or changed, the original actors are what make the show so fantastic because they are so good at playing their character, it is so sad that Jeanne died, I will so miss her, so to me the show is still my favorite and I have total respect for all the writers and the great job that they are doing and the great job that all the actor’s are doing. My all time favorite soap opera and show. Thankyou I love u all.
What does he really think of the reign of JFP??
He just wants attention.
Totally agree with him, I knew what he meant when I read the tweet, the news had just come out about Josh.
LOL
Eric is so very real, I adore him for his not holding back his thoughts from anyone anytime!!
quote EB;
”I don’t like changes!”
haa gotta love him!!!
Well if he was upset about the story line would he say so? Most actors are professional enough to keep their complaints to themselves and not voice opinions on stories on social media or elsewhere. And like any long term employee faced with new management changes– it is unsettling to say the least, so at least he is honest about it. As for soap opera writing– ITA , it is not an easy task and doesn’t get much credit or respect. The writers are like the umpires of daytime dramas– they get booed at a lot for their calls, but the game couldn’t go on without therm.
I, too, understood what Eric meant by his comment. Someitmes I think people are just LOOKING for trouble to make “good copy” or to support their own views. Eric is loyal to his show and his fans–one who questions that must not know him very well.
I agree Eric was not picking on the writters. He knows from experience & respects daytime writers.
Eric Braeden is Never critical of Y&R, that is my opinion, and I believe that to be true. He knows what an extremely awesome task it is to be a writer on a Soap, or to be a writer period, but especially on a Soap. Y&R, since the very beginning has had extraordinary writers, that one of the reasons why it has been the #1 Soap Opera for decades. When a writer decides to leave the show that can seem daunting, a sudden change, and who likes change? I agree with Mr. Braeden 100%. I believe that he is Always respectful of Everyone, and is Always a gentleman! One can also tell that he loves Y&R and the entire cast and the Producers, writers, etc. He is truly a great man!
Nicely put! I agree!
Sorry that I left the ‘s’ out in ‘thats’, but then I would not be me if I did not misspell whenever I am writing a comment about the great Mr.Braeden. I guess that I get nervous. Haha
I have loved getting to know Eric Braeden via Twitter. What a gentleman and full of class.Certainly don’t think he should have needed to justify what he said.It made perfect sense when & in the context he said it.This just showed his care and concern for his fellow artists and craftsmen.
Eric Braeden is a treasure. He is right so many changes…
I admire Eric Braeden and have watched him for years. He cuts through the chase and delivers his thoughts with a few but powerful words. I believe that he doesn’t like change as it is hard for him and for myself. That is a normal human reaction that most people deal with from time-to-time. Hats off to Eric but also the many hard hours the writers put in. I don’t know which is worse for the writers, the hours or the job of pleasing the viewers? Thankfully they have produced a great soap. A toast to many more years to come!
If Eric Braden thought the writing was OK, it means the writers were setting things up for “Victor” to hog our screens again.
In my opinion, EB’s “likes and dislikes” have always been self-serving – so I don’t pay any attention to what he has to say.
EB is the only actor who commented on Josh leaving. He stated that he was very disappiinted. No one else bothered to say!
eric braden is a great actor and am not getting involved in what he say’s or did not say . He’s the best actor Y&R has had in a long time .. Thanks for coming into my home every day of the week . Of course not Saturday’s or Sunday’s . Keep up the good work Eric .Love your caractor !!!!
I totally agree with you Eric! Keep up the good work!
EB should not be questioned, he should not have to explain his comments to anyone. EB is quite a gentleman and very good actor. What he has said about writers is so very true, without writers there would be no soaps. And without good writers we would not have great soaps.
The writers are the bones of the shows, the actors are the soul and the fans are the meat
“I’ve been following for nearly 30 years… since the VCR was available to us..”
A Loyal Fan of SOAP OPERAS… Peter.
I wish the writers at the BOLD and the beautiful would change the story line for Brooke. Sick of her being so trashy!! Damn!!
50 years old and trying to be sexy! disgusting!
I hate change also and I have been a loyal fan of the Y & R don’t want to see anymore changes than we have too. Love Victor for years and his role. Keep up the good work and don’t do any more changes. Love the whole crew.
I agree with Joy!
all i know is i love you and y&r would not be watchable without you.
I cannot stand arrogant Victor Newman. He is the most pompous person I have ever seen.
I agree with him, too many changes in the last few years; would be hard to continue day after day with the same storyline, different characters/same name! Plus 40 years is a long time!
He is right , and I am glad I am not a writer in daytime. There are a lot of changes in YR right now and we will see a few more before it is all over. (don’t you think?) Sharon is a challenge right now.
I love the show and agree the writers have a tough job. All the twists n turns and making stories come full circle while keeping us guessing all the time. Thank you Eric for being such a fantastic actor. hope to meet you at the 40th Anniversary dinner this weekend…
The writer do have a tough job, trying to keep that soap number one is not easy. Writing enough stuff to keep Victor not Eric a mean SOB is a task in itself, but I love you Victor. I hope you have no plans to leave Y and R, it certainly will not be the same.
I totally agree with Eric! they are brilliant!
The writers job is tough, there is a lot of pressure on them to make the Y & R the top. It is unfortunate that they do get the least credit.
If it wasn’t for them writing the story lines I more likely would not watch.
Three cheers for the writers.
I don’t like the changes either especially the loss of Michelle Stafford. Miss Stafford was the ony character with any life in her.
Stop with all the changes! First we lose Katherine, then Phyllis. One we can’t do any thing about but the other we can. BRING BACK PHYLLIS!!!! She needs to take care of Sharon. The writers are doing a fantastic job but if we keep changing out the actor, we will be loosing viewers, thus loosing another great soap. I love Y&R. Please stop the changes……
I agree about so many changes. Can they not keep anyone married on this show. When is Sharon ever going to get what’s coming with the cops I’m sick how she gets away with everything.
I was sorry to see Phyllis leave I would have liked to see her and Jack together because they are a great match for each other. Are they recasting Phyllis, because there is a big hole there now.
I love you Victor
Writing for any media is hard on the brain. Having to product a daily, smooth running, long lived story line is exhausting. I have watched Eric since he was a bad boy soldier where he started his SOB approach to life. Love the Show!
I have been watching Y&R for 40 yrs. and I agree that there have been too many changes, just as Eric said. In fact, I have been thinking about stopping watching. I know the writers have a tough job, but come on…give us something worth watching!
I feel Eric has way to much class to ever say a negative comment about the writers crew or anyone else..
I think he has integrity and believe what he says. I commend him for acknowledging the other participants and the hard work that goes into production of Y & R. XO
I agree with Eric. He should know he has been famous in movies and Young and restless would not be the same without him. I do wish they would bring Ridge back. There are other changes that have been made that I don’t like. But I will never quit watching it. I do hope the babys paternity is revealed, they are all so jealouse of Victors Son when I believe he has a heart of gold. Sharon must be off her meds. She use to be so sweet, now her part is not very interesting. still lov the show but Nikkie is acting so stuck up and not very interesting. Does she ever forgive anyone? I miss Jean so much because she was the show and that part is real. Still lov the show!
being that you are a great actor it’s very big of you to send credit to others who also help make your job a little easier. rock on victor.
I AGREE ONE TRILLION PERCENT AND WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT EIC BRAEDEN I ONLY LOOK AT THE SHOW FOR HIM SOME PEOPLE MAY NOT LIKE VICTOR NEWMAN THINKNING HE IS TOO COLD AND HARD BUT IT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU THE GREAT ACTOR MR. BRAEDEN IS BY CONVINCING THE WORLD AND BRINGING VICTOR NEWMAN TO LIFE GOD BLESS YOU MR BRAEDEN
Sometimes people have nothing better to do then spread lies. Eric is the show. They all make the show what it is, but without Eric as Victor, there would be no young and the restless. I don’t like the way they write some of the scripts. Print this.
I have become one disgruntled and unhappy Y&R fan. I’ve watched this show since the first day it aired and we viewers aren’t always going to be happy with the changes that occur. But in recent years, some of the changes have been waaaaaaaay beyond stupid (just my opinion!) For example, Sharon sleeping her way through the Newman men, culminating with her marriage to Victor! Did the writers really think the viewers would buy that relationship? Viewers have known for years that Jack Abbott fathered Summer but suddenly, Nick Newman is the biological father! Again, did the writers really think viewers would buy this bull? This is not meant as an insult to any actor, but I could care less who’s haunting Neil and his family via the internet! This S/L just popped up out of nowhere, and there seems to be no real rationale behind it. Gus, Leslie & Tyler just begin to come together as a family and BOOM! Gus is dead, leaving more questions than answers. Are the writers determined to make Sharon the next Patty-Cake Williams? WHY?!?! ONE Patty-Cake is more than enough! A private detective, Paul Williams, suddenly becomes Genoa City’s police chief? In what solar system and on what planet? As for the Lauren/Michael/Carmine fiasco, if Lauren is so sick of Carmine calling and/or texting her, why doesn’t she change her cell phone number? Seems like a simple solution to me! I don’t like the “new” Abby or Kyle and again, this is not meant as a personal insult to any actor. Refusing to put Marcy Rylan (ex-Abby) on full-time status was a HUGE mistake. A terrific actress, Rylan is now on full-time status at GH and Y&R is stuck with Melissa Ordway. Are you kidding me? Why Blake Hood (ex-Kyle) was let go has never been explained or I missed the explanation. Either let Billy & Victoria have more than 6 minutes of marital bliss or they get a divorce…end of story! This constant tug-of-war between the two is more than a little boring, taxing and tiresome and by the way, doesn’t Victor have an international conglomerate to run? Why is Victor ALWAYS in Billy & Victoria’s marital business? Victor is coming off more like a busy-body demented old fool, always yelling & screaming, than a consummate businessman. Anyone reading this may or may not agree with me and that’s just fine. But I’m expressing MY frustration with Y&R, that’s all.
DONE WITH THIS SHOW! TODAY WAS THE LAST STRAW. MORE NEW NAKED YOUNG CHARACTERS WITH NO STORY. BRING BACK THE CORE CHARACTERS AND REAL STORIES. LOVE JACK, PHYILLIS, JILL, ADAM. GIVE THEM STORY LINES. SEND DYLAN BACK TO GH. WHO CARES IF HE’S NICKY’S SON. DUMP JFP!! SHE’S RUINED THE SHOW.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Sydney Mikayla Recalls Playing Trina Robinson, ‘I See Her as a Reflection of Black Excellence’

Sydney Mikayla is featured in the latest edition of Eclair Magazine. The former General Hospital star, where she played the first Trina Robinson became very popular during her run from 2019-2022. In the spring of 2022, Mikayla decided to step away from the soap to focus on her education and attend UCLA full time.
The actress was replaced by Tabyana Ali, who has continued the life and times of Trina Robinson on-screen since March of 2022. Now in this new interview, Sydney reflects on her time on the ABC soap.
“Playing Trina Robinson on General Hospital has been incredibly gratifying and deeply meaningful to me. What a lot of people don’t realize is that the role actually began as a day player/co-star situation, so just being invited into that space felt like a huge opportunity. I was especially excited to be working alongside such talented actors like Eden McCoy (Josslyn) and William Lipton (ex-Cameron Webber)—people who were already doing such strong, Emmy-recognized work. Being on set with them pushed me and inspired me every single day.”

EMMY NOMINATONS AND GRATITUDE
It was back in 2021 and 2022, that Mikayla also landed Emmy nominations in the now defunct Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series.”To then be brought on as a contract player for two years, and to receive two Daytime Emmy nominations, was honestly surreal. It wasn’t something I expected, so I approached it all with a lot of gratitude and a sense of awe.”
However, Mikayla who had her own way of playing Trina, shared what was so important to her to represent to the audience. “On a personal level, Trina means a great deal to me. I see her as a reflection of Black excellence—she’s driven, intelligent, and constantly rising to the occasion. Whether she’s navigating complex family dynamics or stepping into leadership roles like helping run an art gallery, she does it with strength and integrity. She’s also an incredibly loyal and compassionate friend, and that balance is something I really admire.”
TRINA IS DRIVEN AND INTELLIGENT
Summing it all up, Mikayla added, “As an actress, playing Trina reinforced the importance of grounding a character in truth. No matter how heightened the circumstances, what resonates with people is honesty and humanity. Trina taught me to lean into that—to keep characters layered, relatable, and real.”
Now the world is Mikayla’s oyster as she enters a new phase of her life and acting career, she shared, “I am really excited about stepping into more physical comedy—I think that would be so much fun and a great way to bring together my background in movement and performance. I’d also love to explore stunt work and action-comedy, just pushing myself in new, more physical directions as an actress. On the storytelling side, I’m really drawn to creating and being part of projects that genuinely move people—especially in television.”

‘The Bold and the Beautiful’s’ Kimberlin Brown Previews What’s Ahead for Sheila Carter

Last week. the stars of The Bold and the Beautiful were in Monte-Carlo at their 65th annual TV Festival. With a full plate of: meeting the fans, attending the parties, talking with the press, and then shooting some remote scenes to air late this summer on the CBS soap, the cast had their dance cards full.
Kimberlin Brown (Sheila) sat down with the The Upcoming to give some insight into the life and times of Sheila Carter; acting on a soap for more than three decades, and a tease of what’s to come in the next few months for her character.
Brown previewed: “My producer last night shared some tidbits with me and there’s some really good stuff coming up for Sheila. It’s going to involve a little drama, a little bit of romance, and a lot of comedy.”

Photo: JPI
As B&B viewers know, Sheila wants Deacon (Sean Kanan) and Taylor (Rebecca Budig) to guarantee that she can be part of her son, Finn (Tanner Novlan) and her grandchild’s life in return for signing the divorce papers. Ultimately, will Sheila ever truly sign them? Stay tuned.
The popular star, who has made playing bad so good also added, “I mean where else can I do things that you should be in prison for? There are people at home going, ‘go, go get ’em.’ It is like they’re rooting for me, because I’m doing what maybe they want to do and would never get away with. So it’s an escape. Daytime is truly an escape.”
Speaking of the fun of playing all the plots she has involved with on daytime from her early years on The Young and the Restless to The Bold and the Beautiful, Brown noted “I think that the real joy to playing Sheila is I do things that nobody else does. And I was told when I got this part, don’t play it safe. There is no wrong. And as an actress to get a note like it just means that I can do things that nobody else can and smile about it and, you know, get away with it. Do I pay consequences? Yes, I do, but she always comes back. I’m the character that people love to hate and I’m the character that people sympathize with because all she wants is love.”

So, what do you hope Sheila does next? Do you think she will keep Deacon and Taylor apart? Will she get involved with someone else? Share your predictions via the comment section below.

Christel Khalil Reveals She Almost Quit Acting After ‘That’s So Raven’ Audition, But Then Came ‘The Young and the Restless’

The Young and the Restless fan favorite, Christel Khalil (Lily Winters) is the special guest on this week’s edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped today on Tuesday, June 23rd.
During the interview with Rebecca and Greg, Khalil who had played Lily Winters on-screen since August of 2002, nearly 24 years with the CBS soap, shared how early on her teenage acting career, she was ready to call it quits in show business, after a heartbreaking audition for the lead of a new Disney Channel sitcom, which later turned out to be the hit seres, That’s So Raven, starring Raven-Symoné which ran for four seasons from 2003-2007.
Christel recalled what happened. “I was 14 and I had always auditioned for all these Disney projects. So I auditioned for That’s So Raven, it was between me and Raven-Symoné and it was called at the time Absolutely Psychic,” explained Khalil. “The character was this girl who had psychic ability, but then when Raven got the role, they named the title of the show after her.”

Photo: CBS
HOW A BROTHERLY TALK CHANGED THE COURSE OF CHRISTEL’S CAREER
Reliving the disappointment to Greg and Rebecca, Christel explained, “I lost that part and I was just so devastated, because for the network call there were 20 people in the room watching me, and I just have always had such performance anxiety. I just completely bombed the audition and it was terrible. So, I was just devastated. I was actually going to quit acting and then I got the final call for The Young and The Restless and I wasn’t going to go.”
It was Khalil’s brother, who actually got her to reconsider, and if he hadn’t, we would not have our Lily Winters in Genoa City! Christel recounted, “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m done. I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m just going to hang out with my friends.’ I was just devastated. My brother, who is seven years older than me, and he had quit acting at the same age that I was at that time. He said to me, ‘I promise you, I actually really regret quitting. Just go on this audition and if you don’t get it, you can quit.'”
Christel’s screen-test for the role of Lily was actually with the late, great, Kristoff St. John who would play her father Neil (Later it was revealed to Lily, that Neil’s brother, Malcolm Winters was her bio-dad).

Photo: CBS
ACTING WAS EASY WITH THE LATE KRISTOFF ST. JOHN
“So, I went (to test for Lily) and I remember the screen-test was with Kristoff St. John. It was just so easy to act with him because he’s just so there. I remember just being on set, and that was my first time there for a screen-test where you were actually on set. I had never experienced that before. It was my first time being with an actor and having makeup done, which just helps you really be able to do your best work.”
Recalling the screen-test with the St. John, Khalil, “It was where I had to be emotional ( in the scene) and I always had issues being emotional at auditions. But I was there with him, it just came, and it happened. It was natural and I felt so good and it was amazing. It stands out in my mind a lot.”
You can check out the full Soapy conversation with Christel Khalil where she also discusses juggling motherhood, marital life, and the demands of soap operas.
Fan can listen to weekly episodes of Soapy on Audacy or wherever podcasts are available, and can watch full video episodes weekly on the CBS =Brand YouTube Channel. Whether a lifelong fan or discovering the genre for the first time, SOAPY offers a fresh, fun behind-the-scenes look at the stories – and storytellers – that define daytime drama.
Now let us know, over the years what had been your favorite Lily Winters story on Y&R as played by Christel Khalil? What did you think of of Christell’s recollection where she was up for the lead of “That’s So Raven” as a teenager, before it was even titled that? Let us know via the comment section.
