Y&R's Kristoff St. John Suffers Tragic Loss Of His Son Julian

This is not the kind of news item we would ever wish to report, especially because it involves one of our very dear friends and colleagues so personally, but so much now has circulated on the Internet that we wanted to pay our respects.

As many fans of The Young and the Restless and Daytime Emmy winner Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters) have been hearing and reading, Kristoff’s 25-year-old son Julian, who has battled mental illness and addiction, and was an incredibly talented artist, died on November 23rd.

Julian’s mother, Mia St. John (Professional Boxer and former WBC champion) took to Twitter with this heartbreaking message yesterday on November 28th in which she shared: “On November 23rd Kristoff St. John and I lost our beautiful son, Julian St John. Our son was the light of our lives, an artist with a beautiful mind and spirit.  He fought long and hard against an illness for which there is no cure. Unfortunately the pain became too great for him and I dare not say he lost the battle–he simply chose to set himself free. My fight for mental health will continue. They may not find a cure in my lifetime, but we can try and prevent the loss of another beautiful soul.

Funeral services will be held this coming week on December 5th, which is Julian’s birthday.  Following services, there will be a reception and art exhibit from Julian’s final collection http://theartofjulian.com/

On-Air On-Soaps sends our love and condolences to Kristoff and Mia.  Please feel free to share your thoughts, prayers, and condolences below in the comment section as well.

When someone like Mr. St. John has been in our homes for years, entertaining us, doing his best to do so, this “real life” tragedy resonates in deeper ways than a “storyline” ever can. With sincere sympathy for such a loss and may light continue to shine on what has taken this young man away, as his mother so eloquently stated. God bless all.

Prayers for the St. John family. Though you would like to have walked that path with him..we all walk a singular road on this Earth..rest assured that your love and patience and frustration and joy were never lost. Parents are the most important people on this Earth aside from the Holy Spirit and you did all that was required of you. Don’t look on things as Illness and addiction but as some of us just being overwhelmed. By life..By just Being…some people peel back a layer of reality and see much more than others and it’s so hard to articulate… Read more »

When Julian was on Twitter before his art show in Laguna in 2013, he and I exchanged comments on Twitter as I also create art. When calling the Gallery in Laguna, staff were happy to pass along a card to him which was to congratulate him on succeeding in his artistic talents despite his on-going illness. I mailed a card from Vancouver, Canada. So happy to be supportive. He did let me know of receiving my card and how it delighted him sent from so far away. Was aware he’d been struggling over the past year and tonight before midnight,… Read more »

my deepest sympathies to Kristoff and his family. Mental illness is so difficult to understand unless you go through it with a family member as I have this past year. May your son find the peace he could never find in this life in the after life. No parent should ever suffer the loss of a child…no matter their age or circumstances. RIP Julian.

Devastating. Tears streaming. A parent should NEVER have to bury their children. Mental illness is so prevalent-2 years ago I lost my beautiful 17 yr. Old nephew, Corey to suicide. Y&R: PLEASE, PLEASE fix your Sharon bipolar storyline! It’s REVOLTING!!! Once again, the mentally ill character who strives to overcome and changes her life loses everything over what her sick self did, but her tormenters, also clearly sick, just smirk and spend Thanksgiving with family. Way to tell viewers that may struggle with some form of mental illness that it’s better to just keep it under wraps or everything in… Read more »

what i hear in mia’s words are the words of someone who clearly loved and supported her son through his illness. mental illness is sadly still stigmatised and trivialised. clearly, julian’s parents weren’t like that, and i’m sure that even though he found life too hard to bear, he knew that his parents had always been there for there. that’s something i’m sure he was grateful for, and hopefully, they will be able to hold onto that as they mourn the loss of their child. deeply saddened.

RIP JULIAN St. John <3 To Kristoff and Mia, my comdolences are deeply genuine and heartfelt. You truly DO have an angel now who is free and at peace. Being 26, having bpd/bipolar myself and ALSO being into the arts.. I mean, this news hits too close to home and is a real tragety. MENTAL ILLNESS IS NO JOKE! May society smarten up and health care systems find ways to always improve availability of resources! sincerely sorry for your loss and reach put to you with understanding that comes from having a brother, cousins, friends and stepson who are in recovery. Focusing on the peace that Julian has now is not easy, but for him, the battle is done, he is no longer a prisoner of this disease, he is no longer an addict. In the heart of darkness it is hard to see a light It is difficult to imagine a future that is meaningful and bright Drowning in a sea of sadness it is hard to find a rope It is difficult to cling to concepts of possibility and hope In the shadows of despair it is hard to believe in love It is difficult to accept oneself as being vital here and above But difficult is not impossible, nor is now forevermore There is a passage, there is a door. It is too late for some, they grew too weary to… Read more »

All My Children and Guiding Light Vet, Gil Rogers Passes Away

Gil Rogers, who played one of the all-time most dastardly villains in soaps on All My Children and was the on-screen father to the one and only Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer) on Guiding Light, has died at age 87.

News came via his daughter, Amanda Rogers on her Facebook page, relating that Gil passed away on March 2nd.

The actor had played Tad (Michael E. Knight) and Jenny’s (Kim Delaney) father, Ray Gardner on All My Children from 1977-1978 making multiple appearance though 2001, then later as Hawk Shayne on Guiding Light from 1985-1992 making multiple appearance through 2009.

Gil also appeared on Another World, Search for Tomorrow and The Doctors.

In her post, Amanda wrote: “Gil Rogers died this morning. As you all know, my dad was awesome. He was my best friend, confidant, mentor and just an awesome dad. He came to pick me and  Charlotte Whitaker Zdanowski up at clubs at 2AM in our teens to keep us safe, and drank bourbon with me every day since moving out here 2 years ago. He was welcoming and kind, funny and gregarious, a shameless flirt and a fierce protector. He loved his dinners with grandkids and endured animated movies and discussions about pokemon. And I miss him so terribly already. He died in his sleep, without pain or fear. I am so grateful to have had such a great father and to have spent these past 2 years with him every day.”

Check out this vintage scene below from All My Children where Ray played by Rogers blows up the Martin house.

Now share your remembrances of Gil’s performances and along with condolences for his family in the comment section.

Chris Harrison In First Interview Since ‘Bachelor’ Controversy Says He Wants To Be Back as Host; But GMA’s Michael Strahan Says Apology was a “Surface Response”

Thursday’s Good Morning America featured the highly-publicized first interview with ‘Bachelor’ franchise host and executive producer, Chris Harrison, since he stepped away from the show following his controversial remarks on current Bachelor contestant Rachel Kirkconnell, amid the airing of a season that has seen the first-ever Black male lead of the reality series, Matt James.

Speaking with GMA co-host, Michael Strahan, Harrison spoke of remarks he made during his interview with ex-Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay on Extra that sparked the firestorm.

Harrison admitted the words he spoke to Lindsey were “in a manner that perpetuates racism,” adding “I am an imperfect man I made a mistake and I own that. I believe that mistake doesn’t reflect who I am or what I stand for.”

The incident began when photos surfaced on social media of Kirkconnell at an Old South-themed party that she attended back in 2018, along with allegations she “liked” many Instagram posts that were racist in nature, and what many viewed as Harrison coming to her defense in this time of what he then called “cancel culture”.

On GMA, Chris expressed: “Antebellum parties are not OK,  Past, present, future, knowing what that represents is unacceptable.”

He also apologized to Lindsay, who had to shut down her Instagram account because of viral vitriol being sent her way over the incident with Harrison, adding this message to the public, “Anyone who is throwing hate towards Rachel Lindsay, please stop. It’s unacceptable.”

Photo: ABC

As to how he is trying to make amends, Harrison shared: “I made a mistake and I own that, Racism, oppression, these are big dynamic problems and they take serious work. I am committed to that work.”  The longtime Bachelor host then announced he is working with race educator Dr. Eric Dyson who has taught him about the idea of “counsel, not cancel”.

Chris says he plans to be back hosting the reality-dating series, expressing:  “I plan to be back. I want to be back.  This interview is not the finish line. There is much more work to be done.”

Following the exclusive, Michael Strahan described his conversation with Chris Harrison stating: “His apology is his apology, but it felt like it got nothing more than a surface response on any of this. Obviously, he is the man who wants to clearly stay on the show, but only time will tell if there is any meaning behind his words.”

So, what do you think of Chris Harrison’s responses during his first interview since the controversy? Should he return to hosting The Bachelor franchise? Comment below. But first check out his GMA exclusive.

GH’s Wes Ramsey Makes Statement on Criticism, Social Media, and Professionalism

General Hospital’s Wes Ramsey, who portrays polarizing character, Peter August on the ABC daytime drama series, responded to a recent take on his role from cast mate, Tristan Rogers (Scorpio) when a video made its way through social media.

The video was from a Cameo appearance, where Rogers offered an assessment of the Peter August storyline and expressed that while he knows Ramsey is a strong actor, he felt he was “wrong for the character” being that Peter was the son of the evil Faison played by Anders Hove.

Rogers also came to the defense of Ramsey and shared: “Don’t be too hard on Wes Ramsey. He’s got himself into a horrible storyline, and the storyline is the fault of the show. What they’ve literally done is they’ve painted themselves into a corner, and they don’t know how to get out of it.”

Currently, Peter’s story is front and center on GH with his wedding to Maxie (Kirsten Storms), and the fallout from all of the character’s dirty deeds.

Now Ramsey took to his Instagram account to address what transpired and his thoughts on the perils of social media, professionalism and acting, expressing: “Actors are storytellers, shapeshifters, chameleons. We’re also in the business of cultivating trust bc that’s how the best work is brought to life. We have to trust our imaginations, our instincts. We have to trust our fellow actors, because without them, there’s no scene to play. In the collaborative efforts of bringing any show to life, we also have to trust our directors each day to steer the arch of our story (like a conductor with a symphony) & trust our writers who are tasked with composing the symphonies we play out. I came up in a world of classical theater, where trusting the play, text, story is essential to the tightrope balancing act of making magic.  You will never hear me critique (on any public platform) the people responsible for the creative opportunities I enjoy each day. Without the trust of my writers, directors, producers & fellow actors, it would be impossible to live out my dreams. My job (& my only job) is to bring fearlessness, playfulness & passionate conviction to what has been created for me. My aim is to stretch myself (beyond the limits of where I think my boundaries may lye) each time I’m entrusted with material that allows those boundaries to be tested.

Every actor must believe they are the right person for their part or they will never achieve their potential, let alone surpass it. I was raised a gentleman & have two wonderful parents to thank for that, however, my polite personality (while rendering me easy to get along with on set) should have little bearing on my caliber of performance nor my castability as a professional.  I am leery of the pitfalls of social media & believe there are advantages to maintaining some mystery (even as a public figure) but I will always defend & protect what I hold dear (my job & my career) when they are publicly challenged, especially by those closest to me, whom I love & respect. Please know I bear no ill will. As a society, we are all still learning the full ramifications of living in an internet dominated culture. To all my many fans out there who offer encouragement & support, I hear you & am grateful for you. I’m having a blast… 🙂. Onward we go.”

Share your thoughts on Wes’ statement on playing the role of Peter August and more via the comment section below.
