Y&R's Steve Burton Chats On His New On-Screen Mom, Dylan's Emotional Scenes, and Missing Maurice & The Gang at GH!

This week, fans of The Young and the Restless have learned that Daytime Emmy winner, Steve Burton, has become more firmly implanted as an integral part of the Y&R tapestry, when it became clear that his character Dylan McAvoy is in actuality the long-lost son of Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). However, as of today’s airshow, Dylan still does not know that key bit of info, and Nikki has not been able to bring herself to tell the man, “I’m your mother!”
Exciting drama and story is no stranger to Burton, who recently received raves for his performances when Dylan, a war vet dealing with PTSD, discovered he had been duped by Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) into believing baby Connor was his biological son! When the truth came out it provided some meaty material for this fan favorite.
On-Air On-Soaps caught up with Steve at this week’s CBS Daytime After Dark event to benefit Stand Up To Cancer, to talk about what’s going down in Genoa City, his hot new tune, “You Killed Romeo”, if he caught former GH cast mate and long time friend, Maurice Benard’s recent star turn as Sonny Corinhos, and if he misses his extended family in Port Charles! Hope you enjoy this “quickie” chat with Steve!
How do you feel about Dylan turning out to be Nikki’s (Melody Thoma Scott) biological son?

STEVE: I feel great about that. I love working with Mel. She is so great. It’s so strange, because I always had this connection with Leslie Charleson (Monica, GH) as her son. And, I almost feel this same way with Melody in scenes. There is vulnerability there between us, and it’s not on purpose. It’s just something that is there. It was actually kind of there before it happened that we were on-screen mother and son.
You had some very dramatic scenes of late when Dylan took baby Connor away (well basically kidnapped him) when he learned the truth that Chelsea lied to him about being Connor’s biological father. When you knew those heavy scenes were coming up, did you have a lot of trepidation going into taping them?
STEVE: Yes, there was a lot of trepidation. Michael Muhney (Adam), when he read that script where Dylan had to act like Avery is a solider, said, “I looked at that stuff and I am glad that it is not me doing it!” I am like, great! (Laughs) So I prepared for it as much as I could, and committed to it as much as I could. Honestly, it was the most challenged I have been during that three week stretch. It was just so emotionally draining for me. On General Hospital, I got to do that stuff, but there was never a stretch of it. It might have been a day or two days, and it was OK, because Jason did not have to show so much. You saw when that character hurt, but this was completely different and I had to carry it around for weeks. I hated it and I loved it, because it was a challenge for me.
Can you believe the success of your collaboration with Jonathan Jackson (Avery, Nashville, Ex-Lucky, GH) on the tune, “You Killed Romeo”? The song worked perfectly with the montage of scenes from Y&R!

STEVE: I always had the idea for the song and the lyrics, but then going through Dylan’s story on Y&R I thought this would be a perfect fit. Like I have said previously, I gave the lyrics to Jonathan, who always writes his own stuff and I said, “Would you try?” And he said, “Absolutely!” The guy is amazing and he sings like an angel, and it’s unbelievable! I played it for someone at work today and this girl went, “I think I am going to pass out!” (Laughs) We got so many hit on iTunes! We were #34 on the first night we released it. I went, “What? We’re not even on the radio!” (Laughs) But it was so cool.
So you and all your buds … Jonathan, Scott Reeves … are in Nashville. I guess I should move there next! (Laughs)
STEVE: C’mon to Nashville! (Laughs) We just spent time with Scott and Melissa Reeves (Jennifer, DAYS) last weekend. We spent time with Jonathan Jackson and his wife Lisa the other night! It’s great, and it’s like I have a life! Michael, it’s amazing!
And … you’re not running around in a black t-shirt anymore on Y&R!
STEVE: No. Now I am running around in a blue one. That’s in my contract. (Laughs)
GH’s Maurice Benard recently turned in some stellar performances when Sonny when off his meds for his bipolar disorder. It’ odd seeing Shawn (Sean Blakemore) now as Sonny’s henchmen and sidekick, and not Jason. Do you ever check in and watch an episode or scenes from General Hospital, and see what they are up to?

STEVE: Yeah, I know it’s odd about seeing Shawn there with Sonny. I honestly have not watched GH, but I hear Maurice has been doing amazing stuff. I talked to him the other day for an hour as soon as I landed in L.A. I called him in his dressing room and I said, “You taking a nap, dude?” That is what he always does there. Maurice always takes a nap! So we talked and caught up, and it was so nice. I miss him, and of course, I miss all the people at GH. That is the hardest thing for me. That was my family. I will call crew people now randomly and go, “Hey, wassup?” (Laughs) I will text people out of the blue, too! (Laughs) I miss everybody over there … but it is what it is.
Tonight, we are here for Stand Up To Cancer, what can you say about supporting this cause?
STEVE: It’s a great cause! I know everyone knows someone who has been affected, I sure have. I have had a really good friend of mine pass away from cancer, and you know the thing is; we are out here tonight for awareness so people write checks and raise money, and that is what it is about I think they are doing great things research-wise. Organizations are not competing anymore … they are trying to work together. So we are here to have some fun and have some laughs… hopefully! (Laughs)

UGH. Saw this coming and hated even the thought of it. Sorry, tying Dylan to a legacy character is not going to make him more compelling.
Another note….I know soaps muck around with characters ages all the time but, if Nikki had this son at 17 he would be significantly older than Nick. So, that is another FAIL in this story.
Chaz the character of Victoria was born on screen in 1982 & Nick was born on screen 1988. It seems the cult storyline was 1978 or 1979 so yes he should be at least 10 years older. But Victoria & Nick were grown when Adam was born in 1995. Gotta remember it is a soap! You knew JFP was going to connect him sooner or later with a veteran character. Just so ya know, the cult story was for three-four months in the summer-fall of 1980 and Nikki was no less than 20-years old at the time. She was already (and actually still) married to her first husband Greg Foster when she joined the cult.
DULLAN is so not needed on this show.
Then again, neither is show killing witch Jill Farren Phelps.
I for one like Dylan. I can easily do without Chloe, her purpose on the show is questionable. Dylan being Nikki’s son will be something else.
Thanks Fox was not sure about the dates on the cult storyline but she did join it with Paul I would have preferred they had went the route of Paul being the Dad oh well I guess they needed a reason for Nikki to give up her baby so they made the Father a creep but they could always be wrong and have it turn out to be Paul’s. Nothing is ever a sure thing concerning soaps!

Dylan is fantastic. He has significantly contributed to Y&R and I couldn’t be happier! They can have him on every minute as far as I am concerned. Add for reasons why he came to Y& R, what connections he has and what his terms arreally doesn’t matter. And just as an aside, I’ve never understood nasty comments on message boards. I guess its the way I was raised …..if you can’t say something nice, keep your mgouth shut.

He is intertwined with people in Port Charles and having Nikki as his mother connecting him to the Newman clan, will bring hopefully good stories..

Loved this interview. Steve Burton is a truly amazing addition to Y&R. No doubt in my mind he should be nominated for an Emmy for his performance showing Dylan’s PTSD. Amazing performance and absolutely love that he is Nikki’s son. I can’t wait till Dylan actually finds out on screen.
So agreed…the PTSD storyline was crazy good….and he and Avery..you can almost feel the heartbreak…
The writers may have a storyline with some teeth for MTS, and SB…..plus the drama that Eric Braden brings to the table, this could be great acting…Kudos to the writers for coming up with this one…. .can’t wait

Oh me too! I was sure it was Stitch because they look alike & he seems older than Dylan. But like my mother & I were talking about today age means nothing on a soap. Just don’t even go there, ha!
This is sickening how he’s plow his way onto the canvas, I turned it off today because I couldn’t stomach him with Nikki. He’s not the best thing to come to YR but just agenda planned by JFP. Sad so sad.

He does too. I’ve read so many interviews where he calls it “The Other Show”. Plus, once again GH not accomodating his taping schedule is bull. He probably didn’t keep up on them like he keeps saying. He got out because he wanted to go to YR where JFP is. Wherever JFP goes, he goes.

and you know all the fans? Doesn’t matter what you like or not like. A lot of people do like. I just don’t get the nasty bitter people who insist on spewing their venom and just can’t let other enjoy. Michael and Kiki are hated on the boards but the focus groups love them. You don’t know what offliners like. So speaking for others is wrong. This was a nice interview til bitter people need to leave nasty comments and not allow others to enjoy it. no I don’t know all fans and never claimed to I had, but you are mixing soaps together, Burton is beloved on GH and I don’t have a problem but he’s not beloved on YR because of how he was PUSHED on viewers and that goes straight back to JFP….
Most (majority) CBS viewers of the character of Dylan are not fans because of the handling of situation. He has push longtime vets to side to make room for him and this is unacceptable, only to me.
No you don’t liked him because you don’t know the over 4 million people who watch but you think you can speak for them. He has not pushed anyone to the side that complete BS. I watch the show so I see what is going on. He’s not even on everyday but u have a few calling it the Dylan show. I think it’s odd that he woudn’t watch an episode of GH since he left. I think if I’d been on a show that long, and felt as connected to the people there as he does…I might want to catch an episode every now and then. Yes, that’s just me…but I still find it rather emotionally removed. Maybe he really IS Jason! 😉
I know what you mean but I have noticed in many interviews with people that leave soaps-they just DO NOT watch the soap they left. I always thought it was weird but this is way not the first time I’ve heard this. They just don’t go back. Maybe it is too hard or they are just busy or they are not TRUE soap fans like us, I mean it is their job, not their hobby!
Yes. I too have read that from others, although there was one or two whom I honestly can’t remember who said they catch up every now and then. I think from a psychological viewpoint you watch these shows, allow yourself to suspend your disbelief…invest in these people…and then the “real” people behind these characters don’t even have an interest in what’s going on with their “old town” or storylines. Then I kinda feel like…LOL…well if he can’t be bothered to watch it or finds it so absurd, why am “I” watching it!

Actually I read interviews when he was still on GH saying that he didn’t watch. He said when he’s at home he’s doing things with his family and just doesn’t take the time to watch the show. Also, I saw an interview with Josh Morrow and he said, “I don’t watch my show, so don’t ask me about a story that doesn’t involve me. I won’t know about it.”
Yes, you are right. I remember all of this. It seems insulting/weird to us that they would say that but, it IS THEIR WORK-they leave work at work, like I try to do-I can’t see them coming home & plopping down on the couch & catching up on their shows! My biggest worry each week is keeping up with all my shows, how crazy is that? I work Wed, Thur & Fri-3 days a week-sometimes can watch at lunch at work on my computer but most times I get off at 5 on Friday & I have 10 1/2 hrs.… Read more »
I guess we have to remember that being on the soap is their job, it is work to them to provide us with such excitement every day! I know there are some soap stars who also watch soaps but they are at “work” & thank God they are, right? I cannot imagine life without soaps.

I don’t think anyone, including myself is spinning people’s words…I know my comment…in which I said if he finds it so absurd…meant that obviously it’s a fictional town with a fictional story and people…and he doesn’t seem to have any interest in following any of it since he’s no longer on. We need to just watch and enjoy and not worry about the rest. Most actors btw hate watching themselves. I think i would too.
Perhaps if more actors actually watched the shows they perform on they’d get a better view of where fans are coming from. Often what they perceive as good work/stories don’t come off that way to the viewing audience.
Steve has never watched himself on GH. I loved Jason Morgan and his relationship with Sam is what brought me and kept me at GH. When Steve left GH so did I. I already watched Y&R and while I think he’s doing a fine job, I don’t get all clenchy for Dylan like I did for Jason.

Yes, Whitney, we DO know why he eft. It was in all media. He moved his family to Tenn. and,wanted,a two/three day babk to back taping schedule so he could be in Tenn. the,rest of the week.. Gh said no, so he left instead of,signing another contract. Y,,and,R said yes to his schedule.

I’m thrilled that it turns out that Dylan is the son Nikki gave up all those years ago! 1) I can totally see the “connection” between Steve & MTS that he’s talking about & I can only imagine the heart wrenching scenes were going to be treated to between Dylan & Nikki going forward! 2) The more ensconced Dylan becomes in Genoa City, the more likely it is that Steve Burton will be on the show for awhile (decades, if I have my way…LOL)! Great interview Michael. I loved Steve at Jason Morgan on GH and miss my Jasam but I am first and foremost a Steve Burton fan and I’m really enjoying his new role as Dylan. Had no problem at all with the black T-shirts but he looks really good in blue. I thought he did a great job with the flashbacks when he took Conner, as well as when he found out Conner wasn’t his. There was no surprise here, it was almost laughable they way they try to throw in at the last minute the red herring that Stitch was a contender– but only those who rarely watch the show or know about the behind the scenes deal with JFP, might have believed that fake attempt at suspense. No wonder Josh Griffith quit he was probably embarrassed to death to put his name on that nonsense. Dylan has been slated to hook up with Sharon since day one. I would rather him with Sharon then Avery. Sick of Sharon revolving around the Newman men for too many years. Love the idea of Nikki freaking out over her son and the much despised Sharon. Let the cat fights begin with these two again. 🙂

Dylan is not a character that is necessarily working. He was brought on in a mediocre envisioned role and the show has been pimping him in every direction since then to see where he’ll stick. I hate the story because the character has been pushed on the audience like a 900lb boulder. Once again these scribes are re-writing history and in a months span Nikki has been able to locate and find her son of over 30 year ago. Please! Couldn’t agree more. Dylan has been shoved down our throats since day one. They have some many better Vet actors that aren’t being used. I love how he said he left GH to spend more time with is family but it seems like he is on everyday. He should of been honest way he was leaving GH. I don’t blame him for leaving though. Ron & Frank ruined his character all for there pets Michael Easton. Now Jill is using her’s.
He tapes two to three days and is home four. GH had,him working 5 days a,week. He is,coachin his sons football team, and taking his,daughter to her activities. None of this he could do when he,was on GH.
Steve (Burton), I watched you everyday on GH…and I miss you so bad on there. You were the main reason I watched it. I really hope that they never replace the character just in case you decide to go back. It is my hopes that you do. It just seems so empty there without you. I know you wanted something different for you and your family…but you will always be Jason Morgan to us fans. I really miss you everyday on there. Lots of hope left for us that one day you will come back to GH.

It’s amazing how much he’s changed since he went to YR. Not a good change, either. He acts like GH never existed to him. If it wasn’t for GH, he wouldn’t be where he’s at today. When u see Steve on 3, 4 and 5 days a week, he isnt,working all those,days,at the,studuo. He works about 2 and,a half days back to back and then flies home to Tenn. Y AND R edits,his,work and outs him in,several days episodes. He is,working half,as much as he did,at GH, and loves it.

Hasn’t Y&R tried to bring multiple “stars” from other shows over to this show, only to mess it up time after time? I’m not digging this long-lost-son story either. It’s been played too many times in the soap genre.
don’t miss him on GH and don’t want his character re cast, just don’t miss him at all, glad he’s off my screen and my show, because GH is doing great without him.

The SORAS on this show is totally F*cked up! Adam was born in 1995 for christ’s sake! And how old is Lauren’s son Scotty Grainger supposed to be now?
Well according the history for the character on soap central website Scotty was born in 91, which should make him 22, but in 2005 when he was on the show for a bit they said he was 24, which would make him today in his thirties, but in 2010 Lauren remarked to Nina that her son Chance and Scotty were the same age, but Chance was born in 88 which would make him older than Scotty– however at that time Lauren said this Chance was in his early twenties, which mean Scotty would be mid twenties now– so you got… Read more »
Steve belongs on GH, not Y&R! Stopped watching Y&R after Jeanne Cooper died. Watched some episodes and found Steve’s character of Dylan boring — like Nikki but just can’t bring myself to watch Steve in this show.

As far as I am concerned, this is just another nail in the Y&R coffin! The current story line about Delia in Danger is such an obvious attempt to repeat FAILED General Hospital story lines that it is beyond boring. The whole bit about Dylan being Nikki’s son has, so far, been so ham-handed and obvious that it is boring as all get-out. As far as I am concerned, it is time to give up on Y&R because Y&R is now repeating all of the gross stupidities which drove me away from GH years ago!

I totally agree about Avery! I watch because I like him. Always watched Y&R a little, but now a little more. I really hope they don’t put him with Sharon. I’m so tired of her!
I love Steve….watched him on GH & watching him on Y&R! I’m thrilled w/ his connection to Nikki! It’s all good! Plenty of story lines there! GH had the option to replace him, they opted not to, & they’re moving on! That’s a good thing! As far as the age thing w/ the “kids” can’t dwell on it! I’ve watched soaps forever & when a certain age is reached kids have the rapid aging syndrome! It’s an adjustment, but I’ve never seen it not work out!
I love Steve Burton as Dylan. I love the fact that he is Nikki’s son. I loved the episode when his PTSD flared up and he thought he was back in Afghanistan. He blew it out of the water. I think he is an excellent, well-rounded actor as well as a blue-eyed cutie pie. I love it that he is NIkki’s son. I can’t wait to see Victor’s reaction to this. GH knew for 7 years,that Steve,was ultimately planning to move his family to Tenn. They thought be denying him his requested taping schedule, they could keep him on the,show. They were wrong.
No offense Eileen but when did any show revolve around an actor he left GH because he knew JFP was setting a place at the table for him at Y&R it was already planned etc. etc. I have accepted that he is on my favorite show Y&R do I think he is the second coming NO ! Do I think he will eventually run the show in the ground NO because no daytime show is ever about one actor/character!

I agree with Joshua. You can see that Y&R is becoming the Dylan show. This is what happens when JFP and her crew are in charge. GH is so much better now than it’s ever been. I’m not a hater, but again I’ve been losing alot of respect for Steve.

I agree Debbie– at first- I couldn’t understand all the hype around SB because most of the scenes they were writing for him were bland, he came across as bland– but the minute they gave him a real story– realizing Connor was not his, and the fallout including the PTSD scene– I thought he did a great job with it too—

Eileen the point I was making was a show that starts accommodating everyone’s schedule just because they choose to live in another state is crazy. An actor works for them the fact JFP has moved mountains to bring him over and cater every little whim is not fair to the other actors who have been on there for years you can’t tell me there is not some major heartburn with some of them. k kay, a lot of the actors have perks in their contracts that the,fans know nothing about. . This is their leverage when it comes to negotiating a new one. Anthony Geary at GH has six weks twice,a year for vacation to go home,to Holland.
The problem a lot of the fans of the show are having with the character is the way Phelps has insinuated him into every aspect of the show, and he’s only been on 10 months. I don’t find his acting any worse than a lot of the ABC “talent” that has come to other soaps, but I don’t want to see this new character on my screen almost daily when other characters we care about barely are seen once a week. My final post on here and I’m done. I’m not bitter towards Steve nor do I even dislike or hate him. That is far from the truth. I’m a fan and always will be. However, that does not mean that I have to agree with everything he does and says. You can still be a fan of somebody without agreeing with everything they do. Not that I have to explain myself. But, felt this was needed.
Hi Jessica– Mary SF here– not defending Steve by a long shot, but just a general observation, most actors rarely tell the real truth when giving interviews. Those that do usually live to regret it and the longer they are in the business the more they learn to spin their answers to make themselves look good. They know their bread and butter is in their fans, so they give the answers they think the fans want to hear. Stevekeeps n touch wirh the people of GH,, just not the characters. Most actors on the,soaps no nothing about the,storylines of their show that they r not in. For example Daniel G might work Mondahursand,Friday with Jill, Lily,, Devin and,Neil.. On Wednesdayand,Thursday, Victor, Nicki, Nick and,Sharon and,Jack,and,Kevin work. None see, each other and they have different,scripts. .
Once again, you’re telling us things that we don’t already know. FYI: They don’t tape on Mondays.
steve burton used to be one of my favorite actors but this new character is overall boring!!!!! It doesnt give him the opportunity to show his talents. Y&R has went down hill I could do better storylines soaps are losing thier appeal because everyone of them are copying eachother. Also just because an actor is a favorite on one show dosent make them the greatest on another it takes alot to build a characters fanclub and Dylan isnt exciting enough to steal the show.
I know they r dark on Mondays, I was just,making an example. U would be surprised at how,little most fans know,about how tapings work. They have never been to the studio. They see Steve on Monday thru Friday for 5 days and dont know that he was edited into some of those episodes.
Also Eileen, you can keep convincing people that Steve Burton is telling the truth with every word he says. However, there are still going to be people who don’t buy it for one single solitary second. Including me. So please, just accept that and move on. We all have our opinions of him. Walt Willey Brings All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery to General Hospital
Look for another legal eagle character from a former ABC soap opera to pop up on General Hospital!
News today out of Soap Opera Digest has that none other than Walt Willey set to reprise his role as All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery on upcoming episodes of GH in July.
Willey played Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) love interest and the Pine Valley lawyer from 1987 through to till ABC’s cancellation of the series back in 2011. The actor previously crossed-over to another soap opera in 1996, when he played Jack on ABC’s The City.

Taking to his Facebook account, Walt confirmed the news on his appearances on GH: “Hey Folks… Been sitting on this one for a while but now I’ve been given the clearance to announce that “Jackson Montgomery” is visiting Port Charles! I’ll be doing a few episodes of General Hospital, due to air mid July. So excited to reprise my character and see and work with old friends! I’ll keep you posted on any details. “Jackson” in Port Charles…who would have thought it? Let me, and ABC, know what you think about it!”
Could Jack’s sudden arrival in Port Charles have to do with the SEC and the trouble that Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) find themselves in? Will AMC fans get to see Cameron Mathison and Willey share scenes together again? Mathison played Ryan Lavery on the beloved former soap opera.

B&B’s Scott Clifton Reflects On His Conflicted Emotions on Winning Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Over Y&R’s Kristoff St. John
The Young and the Restless’ beloved Kristoff St. John (ex-Neil Winters) passed away back in February of 2019, and at the age of 52-years-old. Back in 2017, St. John along with The Bold and the Beautiful’s Scott Clifton (Liam), were nominated alongside each other for the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category at the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
A win for either would put them in the Emmy record books to become the only actor to win all three of the Daytime Emmy acting categories as of that time: Outstanding Younger Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Lead Actor.
During his appearance on Maurice Benard’s You Tube series, State of Mind, Clifton talked about the emotions and ups and downs of eventually winning the Emmy over St. John, while knowing how much it meant to Kristoff, and given late actor’s reel. In it, St. John shared scenes with the late Nichelle Nichols, who played Neil’s dying mother.
When discussing his three Emmy wins with Benard, Scott expressed: “It’s beautiful, but remember Kristoff St. John. I got to do a couple of events with him, and I got to talk with him, and the year that I got ‘Lead’, he was nominated. He and I both had a Younger Actor Emmy and a Supporting Actor Emmy, and if one of us won, everybody was telling us, we would have this record of the first actor in daytime to have a Daytime Emmy in all three categories. And, he told me, and this was months before he passed away, he told me, it was really important to him to win that.” It was then, an emotional Clifton shared: “That Emmy is not worth it to me. It’s bittersweet.”

As to how Scott feels he wound up with the gold statuette, the B&B star acknowledged, “So much of that it is who happened to be submitting that year, etc, and this was the first year they changed the rules. All I did was take advantage of the new rules, and I was smart about it. I did not have the best performance, but they changed the rules where instead of submitting one episode through the year, you could submit a 20-minute tape and you could grab (scenes) from whatever episodes, and I made a story with it. I was playing the voters, but I didn’t have the best performance.”
In tribute to St. John, Clifton said, “His performance was beautiful, but it was all in a hospital. It was so intimate and small, and controlled and authentic, and mine was all over the place, but I told a story. I’m convinced that’s the only reason I won.”

General Hospital’s Réal Andrews and Finola Hughes Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’
Two different storylines, two noteworthy performances, and both from General Hospital, made our weekly kudofest. The first, belongs to the heartbreaking performance that still has everyone talking by Réal Andrews as Marcus Taggert.
Last week’s episodes of GH, brought with it the results of the DNA test that ‘proves’ just who is Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) biological father, Taggert or Curtis (Donnell Turner)? When Trina opened the envelope to reveal the answer in front of Portia, Curtis and Taggert, she announced it was Curtis, who was her dad.
However, if you watched the scenes carefully, you saw the subtle work by Andrews as he was attempting to remain calm before receiving the answer and what followed afterwards, but that was in front of Trina, Portia and Curtis and his attempt to put on a brave face through it all. In reality, Taggert was devastated by the news. When he said his goodbyes, Taggert got inside the GH elevator. Once there, he lost it and began to cry, punching the elevators walls with his fist. Meanwhile, Finola Hughes once again showed us the layers and the veracity of Anna Devane. This time, while at WSB headquarters, Anna’s past as a double agent comes to light. Agent Hersley had her under arrest, as she is being accused of treason against the state.

While Anna’s past as a DBX double agent were known to the agency, they weren’t known to the public. Thanks to Victor’s will reading and the revenge plot he set in motion against her, now Anna is up against more formidable foes. When speaking with her lawyer, Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight), Anna says how can she dispute the charges against her when they are true? She realizes in this instant that the WSB wants to hang her out to dry to cover their own asses. Hersley threatens Anna, that if she fights the charges, they will be forced into looking into the actions of her associates, Robert Scorpio and Annie Donnelly.
Not having it, Anna throws down saying she will seriously embarrass the WSB if they pursue this … and if anything happens to Robert, Annie or anyone else she cares about, she will take the bureau down with her. After Hersley caves, Martin asks Anna what happened. Anna states she is no longer an agent and will never be again.
This material gave the mighty Hughes the material to shine, as Anna went from having the rug pulled out from under her, to fighting back, to now not knowing what her future holds after saving others.
