41st Annual Daytime Emmy Pre-Nominations Announced! Did Your Favorites Make The Cut?

The race is on! The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS), today announced the Drama Performer Pre-Nominations for the 41st Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards.

So just how did the the academy arrive at the pre-nomination list of performers?  Here is the process: An online judging ballot containing all entrants in each of six performer categories was sent to registered, eligible peer judges. The ballot contained a randomized order of performers in each category, regardless of their show affiliation. Judges were required to view clips online containing the work of each performer entry before selecting their top 10 performer choices in each category. Please note that the Outstanding Lead Actress category contains 12 pre-nominated performers and the Supporting Actor category contains 13 pre-nominated performers due to ties.

Ballots were submitted directly to Lutz & Carr, an independent accounting firm, who tabulated the results. The candidates below who received the highest number of votes now advance to the blue ribbon screening round, scheduled to begin on March 26, 2014, which will determine both nominees and recipients. All nominations will be announced May 1st.

Note that in the blue ribbon round, all performers will submit their work of scenes from one episode during the eligibility year! And now here are this year’s pre-nominees! Congratulations to all!

Of note:  from reports we have heard, Michael Muhney (Ex-Adam, Y&R) decided to remove himself from the competition in the Lead Actor category, thus he was not on the initial ballot.  And for the first time, four actors from web series made into the pre-nomination round with Corbin Bleu and Eric Nelsen and Denyse Tontz and Kelley Missal, representing the online versions of All My Children and One Life to Live.

So what do you think of the pre-nominations?  Did you favorites make the cut?  Which five performers in each category would you like to see move on to the finals? Let us know your thoughts!

Sharon Case has pulled off the good, bad and the ugly over the years and she deserves this win. If she don’t get it, she was robbed. For best supporting actress Melissa Claire Egan hands down. The girl can act effortlessly. The little girl that plays Faith is brilliant! She deserves to win child actress.

I agree with Peter Bergman as best lead. He was brilliant when he became addicted to the pills and I love his display of affection for his family, it seems so real and his friendship and concern for Adam was wonderful as though he was the guy’s friend in real life. Very talented actor. He deserves it hands down. I totally agree with that.

I found in life those who most deserve recognition are those who don’t need it, they let their work speak for itself. He also knows he probably didn’t stand a chance of being honored even if he deserved it for his work, because choosing him would have been too controversial because of all the rumors, true or not, these shows avoid scandal and controversy, even the appearance of them, at all cost.

        March 3, 2014 at 11:31 am

I agree MM did the most outstanding work of anyone listed. And to MAMA who said he deserves a jail sentence I would ask what for. I haven’t seen where he has been convicted of anything. Is this still the United States where you are presumed innocent until proven guilty or are you proven guilty when TMZ says you are.

Its a statue. Its a popularity contest. Like high school and running for student council. An Emmy is something that strokes an actor’s ego but means very little in the grand scheme of things. Many people work very hard, harder than actors, an they don’t get fancy parties and awards shows. My brother is an RN. He does valuable work that assists with saving lives. There are doctors and teachers and all kinds of people who do their important work and dont give two hoots about shiny recognition. Far too much attention is being given here.

Did none of you read the last paragraph??

“Michael Muhney (Ex-Adam, Y&R) decided to remove himself from the competition in the Lead Actor category.”

It was MM’s choice to NOT compete. And I respect him for that. Whatever went down in that situation, the gossip has finally died down and I’m sure he didn’t want it started up again.

      • MEG

        March 4, 2014 at 9:14 am

YES ,SZima ,WE did read it. NELSON BRANCO the only real journalist MM actually talked with said he had not submitted, but that does not mean we can not say he deserved to win this year as he did in the years past, MM probably didn’t want to deal with the drama and b/c hes the decent man here ,It is sad b/c MM was on the committee last year to make this process more fair last year .Johnny you are right there are many nurses doctors and teachers who deserve a recognition ,but then there are many that don’t in those feels too, who don’t deserve the respect who shouldn’t be in those fields too..IN TN THIS CASE PPL NEED TO SMARTEN UP STOP READING THE LIES FROM THE TABS AND LISTENING TO THE BULLIES FROM TMZ ,AND LET PRODUCERS KNOW ,THIER SHOW WILL BE A SUCESS ,Y&R MADE A MISTAKE IN FIRING HIM ,HE HAS APOLOGIZED FOR BEING OUTSPOKEN AND HIS HUBRIS (SHELDON USED HUBRIS DESCRIBING HIMSELF ON A EP YESTERDY ) SO IT IS TIME TO LET IT GO ,MM N HK ARE THE VICTIMS ,BUT MM MORE SO.HE DESERVES A GREAT ROLE WHERE HE CAN EXPRESS HIS GREAT TALENT ,HE ACTUALLY DESERVED ALOT OF THAT HUBRIS IN HIS BACKPACK.

Judi Dench was nominated for Best Actress and didn’t show up at the Oscars last night. He could have been nominated. The awards are about the work, not a popularity contest.

      • wolfsmistress

        March 3, 2014 at 5:26 pm

Dame Judy Dench didn’t show up for the Oscars because, as Cate Blanchette (sp?) stated, “Her movie did so well she’s in India filming a sequel right now!”

Michael Muhney flat wasn’t nominated by his peers or the show, which is a snub by them for the fantastic work he’d done. There was never any legitimate reason for his firing other than the show wanted to go with a new actor playing Adam. Everything else was pure speculation and rumor from an anonymous post on a soap web site. NOTHING has been stated, one way or another, if anything even happened, by anyone involved, and I believe that leaving Mr. Muhney out of the pre-nominations purely because of rumor and speculation is wrong. The man did a fantastic job this past year and deserves to be awarded for it, plain and simple.

Who says he had to be there, regardless of what people might believe his ability as an actor was being rate. I think it totally unfair and I refuse to watch it. What has Steve Burton, the actor who plays Noah, Kelly, summer, done that would entitle them to be nominated. Fen is different he did some outstanding acting. I believe M.M was force to remove his name which I feel is totally unjust the man a hell of an actor.

    • Sammie

      March 3, 2014 at 11:07 am

Just another reason I no longer watch Y&R. To see some of these non-talents on the list while Muhney is left off just exposes the whole Emmy process as a fraud.

        March 3, 2014 at 2:50 pm

Michael Fairman noted that from reports Michael Muhneydecided to REMOVE HIMSELF from the Lead Actor category, so he was not on the initial ballot. I’m a huge fan of his work on Y&R and wondered why he wasn’t on the list until I read that part. The report could very well be true, Michael Fairman has a lot of sources, and to slam others on the list is unfair. Also, he was in a different category than most others I’ve seen slammed. I don’t think the Emmy process is a fraud. Read how they go about it. Everyone agrees he is an outstanding performer, and maybe he didn’t want to be among his peers after such a scandal. I understand that. I would probably feel that way myself. No offense to anyone. I love Y&R and I relate to the fans who are passionate about the show. 🙂

I’m a big fan of Eileen Davidson. I have my fingers crossed for her. She had a great year.

I know alot of TOLN’s actors decided against submitting their names for Emmy consideration, and I’m happy for the four who did and were pre-nominated. But there were some AMC and OLTL actors who submitted their names and weren’t pre-nominated, and I have to wonder if their work wasn’t up to snuff (which is possible) or if the network shows weren’t interested in supporting TOLN other than those four younger actors/actresses. Just a thought.

Decent Man??? Michael Muhney did an amazing acting job on Y&R and yes he does deserve to be on the list and even win the Emmy.
BUT, he DID committ a sexual asault and therefore is NOT a “decent man”. It’s time we all stop and really think about what happened. Would any of you feel this way if it was your daughter, sister, friend or co-worker that was asaulted???

      • Melissa

        March 4, 2014 at 10:55 am

Cindy, I have a question, Where you there? Did you see MM commit such a crime? I doubt it, unless you were in the room. Look, I love MM and I support him. I like many others don’t believe this lie. But, I respect him for not wanting to get involved after the show threw him under the bus. Don’t plain on watching either, but, I still hope that Sharon Case and Peter Bergman wins. If not PB, I want Billy Miller to win. They are both still friends of MM and I am sure he would want to see them walk across that stage again.

    • Dean Stacy Sullivan

I would like to know how Cindy knows so much? Unless you were there you can only believe rumors that were never proved and Hunter just wanted a bigger spot on show and she probably made advance toward Michael and he ingnored her. She is a terrible actor also its all about her probably the same in real life. I believe in Michael and we are not the judge God is and if it was true then why no police were called or he being arrested. leave the greatest daytime actor on tv alone and his family and friends. Go Michael we love you and Heather will have to live with what she did to you!!!

This is great news for all of the actors. I am thrilled with the Days list of pre-nominees. I am surprised not to see Jen Lilly’s name on the ballot.

The Lead Actress list is excellent. Sami, Kristen and Nicole are powerhouse actresses (secretly cheering for Eileen and Ari). My prediction is that Eileen Davidson and Maura West are the two actresses to beat.

For Best Actor, James Scott should have been nominated and won last year. He has been amazing this year too. I think it could be his or Billy Miller’s to lose.

It is great to see so many young actors being nominated from “DOOL,” JJ, Abigail, Nick, Sonny. Since Chandler is no longer on the show, I think it would be fantastic to see Freddie Smith or Casey Moss win it.

It was time Eric Martsolf to be nominated. He has had a great year and held his own against Eileen. I am also a fan of Greg Vaughn, but his performance seems too understated.

One glaring omission is Lauren Koslow in Supporting Actress. She is fierce in every scene. I am disappointed “DOOL” did not get any pre-noms in that category.

Maybe since Wally Kurth got a pre-nomination, he will get a great storyline. How about a sibling for Sonny? More time with Adrienne? I would also love to see “Days” turn the character of Adrienne into a corporate schemer. It is always fun watching a “good guy” character turn bad.

Thanks, Michael for posting the list.

Where is Jeanne Theresa Donovan? Jenn Lilly
Where is Kate Roberts? Lauren Koslo

two excellent choices… that are amiss…and were so deserving… to minimally, make the cut…. AND WIN!

I AM SOOOOO excited… to see Wally Kurth, most of all – NICE!

would have been advantageous.. of the panel to recognize how wonderful, with zingers and all… the great John Aniston, Victor Kiriakis

I would love for SC to win it I think she is very good but I also appreciate the fact she does not play politics or trash people. That being said she will not win because she does not play the game and that is ok like I said simply something to collect dust. I would not support anyone from Y&R except SC, PB & MCE. Why because they kept their big mouths shut on the MM situation and ED would not get my vote because she was on the set of Y&R a few times and had to be totally ugly on twitter. Word to the actors you need to stay off politics, religion and trashing other actors their are a whole lot of us out here that watch these shows and we could care less about your opinions stick to acting. You do not want to hear my opinions and I do not want to hear yours.

Sharon Case deserves best actress for being able to put a spin on all of the garbage she had to deal with and nail it each time. There has not been an actress in all of my days of watching daytime soaps that has had the misfortune of garbage storylines like this powerhouse has. She nailed everyone of the rotten storylines she was handed. Sharon Case is a dynamite actress. The last straw was pairing her with Eric Braeden which was not her fault. It should have never happened but the actress made it seem like a piece of cake as usual. She is beautiful as well as talented.

    • sarah16

      April 3, 2014 at 9:32 am

I agree almost with you. Its definitely time for KKL to win she is amazing as Brooke and Kim matula is one of the strongest younger actress on a soap her acting is flawless and i have been waiting patiently since they dramatically aged Hope for her to get at least nominated however I don’t think Adam Gregory has done enough to make the final cut . I think someone from Y&R or GH might take it but I would like to see Scott Clifton or Darin Brooks take home an emmy all their scenes have been gold. The way they both play off Kim Matula and each other has made for interesting TV to say the least however good luck to all the actress/actors for there amazing dedication to daytime!!!!!

    • nancy56

      May 19, 2014 at 7:52 pm

How hard is it to make out all the time, that is all Kim Matula’s character does. She has not put any real drama into her acting. Maybe she would deserve a thought of winning if she were still hooked on pills or something other than trying to figure out which brother to sleep with, that is the writers fault.

        Finola Hughes
        Kelly Sullivan
        Jane Elliot

pre-noms this year… and seriously sic overlook last year

unfortunately… Robin Mattson… didn’t make the cut…. the writing this year for her character… was jeopardized… with the outlandish cartoonish misfortune RM had to be

I just hope they rejuvenate her character – Robin Mattson and the audience deserve her back on our screen

I agree GH50. This list is appalling. Roger Haywarth goes from playing a dark anti-hero on OLTL and is reduced to playing Carrot Top with a tumor.
And Laura Not-so-Wright? All that yelling and caterwauling does not equate to great acting.
Finola Hughes better win this one.

Exactly- MM should not have removed himself- I’m sure it was forced- let’s assume he is an IDIOT- maybe he is maybe he is not- who knows- but is work was phenomenal- no one can take his talent away from him- Since when has an award show shied away from RECOGNIZING folks of dubious character. Seems MM gave them an easy way out- oh well, cant change it..however Davidson should not be on this list…it just seems to fixed when you see his name up there. Too bad…

Debi posted on twitter last year that she wouldn’t be submitting her name for the Emmy’s. I was bummed not to see Sal’s name on the list. She did amazing work.

    • Scott (ATWT Fan)

      March 3, 2014 at 10:41 am

Debbi formally said she would not be putting herself into the running. A lot of TOLN probably didn’t to prove their points on the failure for second seasons of AMC/OLTL.

    • KM

      March 3, 2014 at 2:22 pm

I know Debbi Morgan chose not to submit herself and if the list of lead/supporting actresses that was leaked early was for real then I guess Sal Stowers must have opted out as well because there’s no way her awesome performance could have been ignored. I respect their choice but such a shame because both of them as well as Darnell Williams did some of the strongest soap work I’ve seen in a long time.

        March 3, 2014 at 2:58 pm

Steve Burton had some fantastic scenes and he deserves to be on the list. These judges watch CLIPS of scenes to decide, they don’t base it on the show. No need to be rude about him. He’s a great actor.

Sometimes an actor who should be lead puts his name in for supporting because the field is less crowded with Emmy favorites that win year after year– it may have been planned move on his people part in order to give Greg a better shot at being recognized

  18. Paul8148

    • Mary SF

      March 3, 2014 at 10:36 am

This is just a first step, the performers and performance that aren’t “award” worthy will be weeded out in the next round– at least one would hope they would, but these awards are so subjective– like Olympic figure skating there are a lot behind the scenes deals that go into these things that no fan should take any of it seriously. In the end as I have said before, I am the real winner because I get to enjoy all these amazing performers and performances almost every day— and I hope for some of them that is what matters most to them, and not an award that most people will forget they won within weeks of winning it.

Very glad to see names like Finola Hughes, Jane Elliot, Maura West, and Roger Howarth on there from GH. Finola not making the cut last year was a travesty. Also Jason Thompson and Kimberly McCullough for the Robin returns storyline. Hope all of them make the final cut when the final nominations come out. GO GH!!!

I wonder if voters felt Anna was out of line in her Reel last year (She submitted reeming Patrick for Cheating on Robin). If she submitted Anna vs Anna/Anna Begs fasion of the truth about Robin she should be in.

That’s too bad about Michael Muhney removing himself. He probably would have won but gotten totally ripped to shreds, so I understand his decision. It was best for his family, but it makes me really sad.

  24. Shelley

From reports we’ve heard Michael Muhney decided to take himself out of the competition. LOL does that go hand in hand with all the other ‘reports’ we’ve heard about Michael Muhney. We all know he deserved the nomination and we all know he deserved the win. With all the backstabbing that goes on in Daytime TV is it any wonder The Daytime Emmy Awards is to be televised on cable instead of Network TV who televises the 4 major SOAPS. Just ask Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Pete @CBS.

Michael Muhney should be on the list for BEST ACTOR! The Daytime Emmy’s this year can kick rocks, I won’t be watching. Hopefully it’s picked up online and not by a major network. Waste of good TV programming. This is a travesty, and Steve Burton hasn’t had decent writing or acting since GH, and for him to be in any category and not MICHAEL IS A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT. I was baffled that Doug made the cut this year along with Steve-

Agree that Sharon Peter and Billy deserve their noms. But honestly MCE and JC in lead actress categories? Maybe supporting but even then they support no actor in a scene they are two of the most boring vanilla people to watch trying to act and are the soul reason I stopped watching Y&R regularly. I stopped watching altogether after they dumped MM and allowed a bs rumor to continue, that only served to hurt them HH and MM. Disgusting. I’ve met JFP and not impressed.

    • Tim

      March 3, 2014 at 2:44 pm

I’m with you, MM should have kept his name in the hat. I dont think you’ll have to boycott the awards show since sadly, no one as of yet has agreed to air it. Last years show was horrible BUT it was something. They just need to have Regis and Kelly host it in a theater with NO attempts on having someone sing or dance. Show longer reels from each actor nominated!

Without singling anyone out some of these nominations are a joke and will hopefully be weeded out. What I don’t understand is how any can be judged “best” based upon one episode in a years body of work.

  32. Mona Montreal

    March 3, 2014 at 10:29 am

Regarding MM, I would be more likely to believe that it is the show itself that provides nominees and each actor’s work “reels” to the judges. As such, they would never have included MM’s due to the controversy and their potential legal issues. I think that makes more sense than MM withdrawing his own nomination. BTW, who ever heard of Jamie as a young actor character on Y&R? Those pre-nom lists are longer than the entire cast credits for the shows lol. The opposite of short-listing!

    • Rosemary Patterson

      March 3, 2014 at 3:05 pm

Jamie was the kid that was bullied. He stayed with Michael and Lauren for a while and he was bullied by Fen and Summer. Remember Fen and him went at it on a roof?

Jason Thompson, Jason Thompson, Jason Thompson, Jason Thomoson one more time Jason Thompson!!! Last years loss was forgiven only because DD won and Doug had a suberb year as did the other nominees. This year if JT doesn’t win it will be a shame because his work has been beyond outstanding. His toughest competitor is Peter Bregman. Hopefully they both make it to final ballot! JT deserves it above and beyond!!

    • Scorpio Drake Family Fan

      March 3, 2014 at 7:44 pm

Could not agree more. Jason Thompson is OUTSTANDING as Patrick Drake and I agree he should have won last year too. While this category is full of talented people, there is no question in my mind that JT should be at the top of that list and taking home the much deserved and coveted award. I am anxious to see what scenes get submitted, there are so many to choose from with Robin’s return.

      • Keri

        March 4, 2014 at 5:16 am

I think he (not that JT is asking LOL) should submit the scenes where Patrick is telling Sabrina about Britts baby and not being the father. He was amazing he pulled every heart string I have!!!! Also the scenes where Emma runs away. The pure terror on his face and the his speech pattern! I found my self screaming at the TV cursing at Britt. When Robin came back although mostly likely too short of a scenes. When everyone leaves the church and Patrick is alone in the church pew sobbing. He didn’t need to say anything on how devastated he was having to choose between two lady loves. Sorry if this off topic but I was curious as to what scenes you think he should submit?

Also so happy for Sharon Case, who always seems overlooked, but she always rises to the occasion, no matter how they end up writing her. One question: Where is Melody Thomas Scott on this list!?!

    • Rosemary Patterson

if we’re to go from press… it would seem that Billy Miller has it in the bag…
however, I love your read on James Scott’ EJ… those scenes where he had to adhere to the family creed… that a DiMera… kiss his ring finger… and speak out loud… how : Stefano’ offspring… abide by and forgo personal for thee family… was staggering…

LOL… woah! it was a feat to see EJ … let alone any actor who portray a DiMera be filmed doing as such. it was riveting stuff to envision… WOW… James Scott portrayal right then and their… was a punch to the gut… all his senses forboding… if you will….

if the panel…is truly caring about : it could go to either Billy Miller – James Scott – and have to throw in Jason Thompson…. knowing these three guys storyline… I just love their stuff… and couldn’t venture… right now… a clear winner

      blows me away.

as for best actress: man… knowing Finola Hughes… double dip… as Anna vs. Anna… could really throw a wrench in lo Eileen Davidson’ chance… and I love ED. so… It’s up in the air.. I just have to hope… that the panel… goes with how… day in and day out… how ED had to muster up… BIG – blow out – ballistic – ballsy – believe . you name it… Kristen behaved it ALL.

so… I love FH’ Anna and ED’ Kristen….

      the best supporting actor… I think… for… whomever the 5 nominess… is the toughest category….

      Greg Vaughan, DOOL – Eric
      Eric Martsolf, DOOL – Brady
      Blake Berris, DOOL – Nick
Wally Kurth, DOOL – Justin ( I love this man – he’s thee man… and was match for match. blow for blow. on even par and keel with James Scott, EJ) his defense of Sami… and standing up for his son…and tirades with Adrienne… were outa this world!

i’d give the 5th spot… to Bradford Anderson… who has every right to win… for his angst and couldn’t fathom Maxie’ behavior.. and his being a father… was so emotional…

I know it would appear , DAYS is my fav. serial… but the quality of cast.. is riveting to behold… every cast member is delivering their “A” game… and is culminating… in DAYS triumphing.. a deserving.. 2nd Emmy for best show… 2 years in a row!

I hope these guys make the cut.

too tough a category to call…. they are all deserving… in the supporting best male… Yikes! imagine if Lucas and Victor… were in… it’d be a clean sweep for DAYS men…

      nominations any way….

      Fan salute… Days is ON!

I agree with Sherwood 100%. You say Michael Muhney opted to leave his name off the Ballot. The question is did he do it because he was forced to by Y&R, possibly in an agreement in order that they pay up his contract? Or maybe he couldn’t stand the idea of attending with his former co-workers & all the bad jives he’d get from some of them. Also MM worked hard to improve the Emmy process for all the actors. This is a travesty. I was hoping that Billy Miller & MM would share a joint Emmy. Now I hope Billy wins. Also I hope Katherine Kelly Lang wins as Best Actress. She’s been consistent all these years & never wins. Last year she chose to be in the Best Supporting Actress catagory so as not to complete with Susan Flanery who was leaving the show & wasn’t even able to win that. She’s a lovely, thoughtful person.

Where the heck is Kathleen Gati as Dr. Obrecht from GH? For that matter, Anders Hove as Faison? I thought they did some of the best work on GH this year, hands down.

Knowing the humble man Anders seems to be from the few interviews he’s done, he probably didn’t submit his name, because he was only on the show for a short period of time, and didn’t wanna take away from the other actors. But his work was certainly worthy of recognition, and Kathleen Gati was gold in every scene she was in.

Very disappointing to see both of these talents go unrecognized!

    • Fanny

    as usual…. “every” Y&R cast member…. MUST submit….

why else… by process of elimination… cull another obvious win

    “we’re #1”

5 best supporting actress pre-noms….. AND: Kathleen Gatti… IS?

Dr. O’ should have been acknowledged….what a sham by Y&R production to overload … on a lackluster year no less…. no Michael Muhney = No Y&R

Hello Kathleen Gatti: you should have been on the “list”

Where is the woman who played Cassandra on All My Children online? She has to be under the required age for adult, making her younger actress, no?

Michael Muhney……what can I say? The guy has such phenomenal talent, that in almost every scene he was in, he had me right in there with him. I’m still in disbelief that Y&R canned him, and will be watching whatever he will be acting in, whenever he decides he’s ready to get back in it!

Wendy, you speak the 100% Truth. MM is differently a phenomenal talent. He can make the worst of scripts and s/l’s look like Oscar Winning Material. And boy, has he been given the worst scripts, ordered by the worst EP in Daytime History. That speaks volumes of his acting ability.

Best Male Supporting – tie Steve Burton, Blake Berris
Best Female Younger – Hunter King
Best Male Younger – Chad Duell

Are they kidding us? Tracy Bregman supporting actress on Y&R and Jessica Collins lead actress?!!!???!!

I can’t decide if I want Eileen Davidson or Finola Hughes to win lead actress, both are phenomenal. This category is a tough one, there isn’t a single name on there that I’d be disappointed to see take the award.

Similarly in the lead actor list, though I would like to see Jason Thompson win the most.

All in the supporting actress list are great, though I’d rather not see Amelia Heinle or Cynthia Watros take the prize. It would be lovely to see Jane Elliot win, but she doesn’t normally nominate herself does she?

Steve Burton outstanding supporting actor??!! I really hope the B&B guys don’t win, Blake Berris is the most worthy imo.

Not sure who I want as outstanding younger actress, I really DON’T want Kim Matula to win!

I’d be happy to see Casey, Bryan, Chad, Max or Freddie win outstanding young actor.

    • Patrick

      March 3, 2014 at 9:09 pm

      Best Supporting Actress: Amelia Heinle

it would be so nice… to see her be acknowledged… she was just superb… as the “supportive” cheated, wronged, lost, bereft wife/mother…

she’s my heartbeat for Genoa City

I hope these 5 make the pre-nom cut:

      Amelia Heinle, Victoria
      Elizabeth Hendrickson, Chloe
      Jane Elliot, Tracy
      Kimberly McCullough, Robin
tied: Cynthia Watros, Kelly and/or Kelly Sullivan, Connie

wow… have to do a will win: predict; Jane Elliot
      wow… should WIN: Amelia Heinle

her win… would be all that Y&R deserves to WIN

      OK… diss me… Billy Miller is a shoo-in

      that’s IT! for Y&R

While I’m excited to see four representatives on this list, I almost feel like a bone was thrown to AMC/OLTL. While the primetime emmy academy embraced online versions of “TV Shows”, ala OITNB, House of Cards, Arrested Development, I’m not “feeling the love” from the daytime emmys.:(

I am surprised that jerry van dorn did not recieve a nomination for Clint on OLTL for lead actor. He had some incredible scenes . Although no one from Oltl or Amc received nomination in lead or supporting categories. I wonder if they were just snubbed or did the actors decide like debbi Morgan not to submit their work for consideration .

  62. Nikki

    March 3, 2014 at 4:03 pm

The most glaring omission is, BY FAR, Kirsten Storms. She, not only did some of HER, personal best work, but did some of 2013’s best work. Another omission is Sean Kanan. Especially when AJ found out about Michael’s rape, those scenes were raw and should fantastic emotional range. Also, I was disappointed not to see some true, incredible supporting talents not recognized, such as Anders Hove, Kathleen Gati, and Robin Mattson.

Now, let’s discuss those of whom that are nominated that should not be. Cynthia Watros? Really? A woman who has been on Young and the Restless for a few months and hardly showed anything close to being an Emmy worthy performance. Did she really deserve that spot over someone, such as, Kirsten Storms? Absolutely not. Jessica Collins, Steve Burton, John McCook, Shawn Christian, William DeVry, Linsey Godfry, Kim Matula, Robert Adamson, how did these names even make it past initial stages? I love William DeVry and his portrayal, but to call it “Emmy” worthy is a bit of a stretch. I much rather see him nominated NEXT year.

However, there are some excellent names who are nominated and very deserving. This is how the actual nominations should go:

    Lead Actress:
Eileen Davidson – Hers to lose, already. She had one of the best years, in history, as Kristen in 2013. She displayed a wide range, from rage to despair to guilt to cocky to sympathetic to catty, it was all there.

Finola Hughes – If anyone were to beat Eileen, I’d put my money on Finola. She’s been looked over way too many times by the academy, but I think that her performances in 2013 are not going to be able to be ignored this year. Very powerful.

Sharon Case – What an amazing actress. She has had to deal with some of the worst writing in the past few years, but manages to turn out outstanding performances. So happy to see her recognized and in lead, no less. I think she’ll be able to gain a nod, but I don’t see her winning. I’d see her having a stronger chance if she had put in for supporting.

Maura West – She could be an upset that no one would be upset about. LOL. She has been nothing short of perfection in her icy role of Ava, carefully and perfectly integrating moments of sheer emotion and desperation. She’s a multiple Emmy winner already and I wouldn’t necessarily count her out.

Heather Tom – Personally, I think this spot should be held by Laura Wright, but for some reason, the Academy adores Heather. In her defense, I think this year Heather gave a performance actually worthy unlike the past two years. But if she were to win, especially over Eileen, it would be a travesty. But she will, for sure, scoop up another nod, at least.

    Lead Actor:

Roger Howarth – Not sure what he submitted, but I assume it would be his work on the bridge which was phenomenal. The way he fully throws himself into his work, into his character, it reaches out and grabs you. Whether you like his character or not, he is one of the strongest actors in the industry and always has been. I could see him being a true contender this year for the strength of emotion in his scenes, but I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if he were to take home the prize.

Maurice Benard – My odds on favorite for a nod and a win. He is always strong and always vehemently passionate, but this year, he really seemed to dig deep, Attacking the results of not taking his bipolar medication, his execution of Sonny was brilliant and heartbreaking, not to mention, scary, at certain points.

Jason Thompson – Very possible and probable, that this will be the Lead Actor winner. Not only was he a favorite last year when nominated, but his work in 2013 was even more powerful. He continues to grow and I think the voters will see the trajectory of his talent and how breathtaking the result was this year.

Billy Miller – He absolutely gave a beautiful, tragic performance this year, but I don’t see him winning. If he had put in for supporting as he typically does, he would sweep the competition, but Lead is a very competitive category and I just don’t see his being as powerful. However, for his final scenes, I see his name already on the winners list in 2015.

Christian LeBlanc – An absolute awards favorite. I can see him being the only actor, not on General Hospital, to take home the prize, but while I was very impressed with his performance, I don’t think it was his strongest and I don’t see it being strong enough to beat Thompson or Benard, both of him showed a bit more range than LeBlanc this year.

    Supporting Actress:

Jane Elliot – A powerhouse if there ever was one. Her scenes were more subtle than others, but more gripping as such. I don’t envision her winning, simply because of some of the other nominees, but she definitely deserves a nod and I think she’ll get it.

Elizabeth Hendrickson – Now, normally I would say with a “dead child” storyline, she’d be the absolute favorite, no contest, but Rebecca Herbst gave a little bit stronger performance when she was in the same position, but she didn’t win. However, I see Elizabeth as Y&R’s strongest chance for an award and I think that she is one of, if not, the, front-runner in this category.

Melissa Claire Egan – Always a nominee, never a winner. Melissa has been nominated many times before in this category, but, once again, I don’t see her being her year. No doubt that she gave one of Y&R’s best portrayals in 2013, I don’t see it being enough to edge out the competition. But she will get her nod.

Kimberly McCullough – I believe Kimberly will not only get a nod, but I can see her actually winning. If there is one thing that voters love, it is someone of her caliber that leaves a show, comes back, and knocks it out of the park like she never left. I think it was very smart of her to put in for supporting, just increasing her chances of winning. I see this being a race between her and Elizabeth, if not a tie.

Nancy Lee Grahn – Another awards favorite, nominated often and a past winner. She gave some very moving performances in 2013, ones that I think would put her as the odds on favorite, but this year, supporting is just too strong. Despite infusing her performances with subtle humor and righteousness, that only add to her brilliant scenes, I don’t see her taking home the gold.

    Supporting Actor:

Blake Berris – People already predicted his Emmy win when his scenes aired in 2013 and I think that he is still the absolute front-runner. Like with Kimberly, he returned to the soap and turned out some of his best material, proving that his skill has only improved during his time away. He also played a very complex character with as sensitive and topical issue (rape), but not as the typical victim.

Bradford Anderson – If anyone were to beat Blake, it would be Bradford. He’s been nominated many times, not always that deservingly, but this year was a completely different story. He upped his game and with Kirsten Storms as his scene partner, he was mindblowing. You felt his emotion through the screen, which is what soaps are about- bringing emotion, attachment to the character, into our households. It will be very close with him and Blake, but supporting actor is also known as the Noah’s Ark Award- it usually goes to pairs 😉

Eric Martsolf – Already a talented actor, but in scenes opposite Eileen Davidson, it’s a set-up for success. He, like the others, presented some of his best work. I’ve never been a huge fan, but I was impressed in 2013. I see him being the upset if it weren’t to go to Blake or Bradford.

Greg Vaughn- I wasn’t that impressed by his work, athough the nuisance of pain that he brought to his scenes as Eric, I believe, will gain him a nomination. I don’t see him having an chance of winning, but I think he’ll have a stronger chance next year.

Scott Clifton – A past favorite that really brought a lot of range this year. He played heartbreak, rage, grief, desperation, everything perfectly. I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to win, or tie with someone to win, but while his performance was certainly worthy enough of a nomination, I don’t see it winning.

    Younger Actress:

Kelley Missal – I believe the voters will want OLTL represented and no one is better than Kelley. She gave an adult performance, carrying a very heavy load and going toe-to-toe with some of daytime’s best, with raw emotion and honesty. I think she is supremely talented and I believe she deserves the award the most, but I don’t see her actually winning.

Hunter King – She continues to grow in her acting and I believe that this nod would be more plausible than the one she received last year, but I’m not a huge fan of her acting. I do think she will come out victorious and win, especially since she has, not only grown and acted opposite some heavyweights, but her name has been out there and because of that, she has received a lot of public praise and love, which could indicate that she is well liked and that can weigh on a voter.

Denyse Tontz – Again, I see AMC being represented by another talented young woman. She was one of the most talked about newcomers of 2013 and I see her being a real contender for her innocent, but passionate performance as Miranda. She may have been a tad more subtle than the other girls, but I think that could actually help her, as it would show she doesn’t need to be as over the top. I could see her being the upset.

Kristen Alderson – Last year’s winner, I think she’ll secure a nomination, but not a win. She’s still coming into her own as a new character and while she certainly had some flawless moments in 2013, I don’t see it rivaling her winning performance in 2012, which I think voters will also be looking at.

Camila Banus – Out of the remaining girls that I have not already listed, Camila has the better chance at a nod. I don’t see her winning, but I think that she really captivated people as Gabi this year, unlike the past. I also think it helped with her being in scenes with people like Chandler Massey, Blake Berris, and Freddie Smith, I believe it brought out the best in her.

    Younger Actor:

Bryan Craig – My odds on favorite to win. Despite being new, being a SORAS’d recast, all things that viewers usually judge harsher than others, he gave some of the most powerful performances from General Hospital and the entire younger set of daytime. His scenes with Maurice Benard, which I assume is what he submitted, proves how strong he is as a performer, going toe-to-toe with one of soaps’ finest. I am personally rooting for him and this is one category that I actually think my personal favorite could win.

Chad Duell – If it’s not his onscreen younger brother, I could absolutely see Chad walking away with the trophy. He’s been overlooked many times before at these awards, but I don’t see how his gut-wrenching performance this year could be overlooked. I think this was a year when he finally stood out among all the talent in a scene with him and I think voters will notice that.

Chandler Massey – Always the favorite to win, LOL. Multiple winner, constantly consistent. Chandler definitely has another shot at this trophy. I think he has much stiffer competition than he has in past years, but I don’t think that means voters won’t notice him again, especially with this being his last year. I wouldn’t count him out.

Freddie Smith – I see him gaining another nod to add to his list, but I really don’t see him beating his former cast-mate or the General Hospital boys. He is a little softer as a performer, which is different and shows a bit more range, but not enough this year. However, with Chandler out of the way next year, I think Freddie could become actual competition.

Max Ehrich – I, personally, don’t see why voters seem to like his acting, but in the past they have and he certainly had more screentime in 2013 than the past so I totally see his name on the official nominations, but, again, with so much stiff competition, I think if he were to win, it’d really be robbing the others.

I completely agree. No Kirsten Storms? It’s a joke and a huge oversight. I couldn’t believe it when I read the list, especially when you look at some of the other nominees for GH.

I was SHOCKED at Kirsten not being on the list. I literally had to go through the list again because I was sure I just missed it. I think most of the GH nominees were well-deserved. GH and Days were, in my opinion, the strongest soaps in 2013 especially in acting. But how Cynthia Watros and Tracey Bergman got a supporting actress spot over Kirsten is beyond me.

Best Lead Actress should be Eileen Davidson, Finola Hughes or Sharon Case

Best Lead Actor should be either Billy Miller or Jason Thompson

Best Supporting Actress should be Kelly Sullivan or Elizabeth Hendrickson

Best Supporting Actor should be Blake Berris or Bradford Anderson

Best Younger Actress should be Hunter King or Kate Mansi

Best Younger Actor should be Freddie Smith or Chad Duell

My only question is, where the hell is Michael Muhney?! He was FANTASTIC this year, Adam was easily one of my top three favourite daytime characters. He deserves an emmy for his work and not all this backlash and hate for UNPROVEN allegations.

    March 3, 2014 at 6:37 pm

Well, since Muhney took himself out of the race (darn him!) for pre-noms, I’ll go with the following:

Lead Actress: Katherine Kelly Lang (heck, she deserves one after all these years!)

Lead Actor: Billy Miller (it would have probably been a tie between him and Muhney as it was — I would have rooted for both)

Lead Supporting Actress: I’d like to see either Jane Elliot or Tracey E. Bregman win. Ms Elliot because I’ve heard good things about her, and Bregman because I’ve watched her since she was a kid.

Lead Supporting Actor: While I’ve never seen either of them on GH, I’ve heard good things about Bradford Anderson, and I know William DeVry’s work as Storm on B&B, plus I’ve heard good reviews of his GH work. I’d go with either of them, but would also support Greg Rikaart. Why Steve Burton’s even on this list is beyond me … he doesn’t support anyone!

Younger Actress: Personally? I’d go with whomever that little girl is who’s playing Faith on Y&R right now. I know she used to be on a Disney show or something like that, and she’s a good little actress. The others I don’t know about and the Y&R actresses … pfffft! Isn’t Khalil too old YET?!?

Younger Actor: Daniel Polo. ‘Nuff said.

If the online series, OLTL and AMC win, good for them! Maybe it’ll help the bigwigs realize that fans really do love their soaps and are willing to watch them, no matter what. My kid wishes they’d do either Y&R or B&B from the beginning on Netflix. I’d like that, too, but IDK if they would. 20 years of Law & Order is one thing … 40 years of Y&R is something else! 🙂

Leading Ladies! Oye! 12 to choose from

I HOPE these 5 make the pre-nom cut:

    Eileen Davidson, Kristen, DOOL
    Alison Sweeney, Sami, DOOL
    Ari Zucker, Nicole, DOOL
    Finola Hughes, Anna, GH
    Maura West, Ava, GH

Yikes! this would be my list… in order of preference… for the “win”… in that order.

#1. ED’ Kristen… far and away, the most meaty material… from start to finish…. embodied her character to the hilt… non-stop delivery… in the evil DiMera machinations… with so many twists, turns, and just, an all out Triumph.. Major oomph for DAYS celebration of BEST SHOW… and she featured ALL THAT… I can’t believe she’s coming back…. Tears

#2. AS’ Sami… be that as it may… for all her righteous behaviors.. she’s the “moral” fiber and centerpiece for DOOL. my first thought… to acknowledge her… nonstop… for her epic portrayals… over the last 21 years… for keeping DAYS abreast… and… she featured… EVERY, year – sentimental… why not… she’s a major chess piece in Salem

#3. AZ’ Nicole… it’s staggering… how AZ showed up in Salem… and grabbed a foothold… her presence… with no support … ie: NO family… she did it all on her own…. I certainly, wish FAY was with US… con’t stop hinting and wish listing, Nicole’s mother. Nicole… is steamrolling… her time… on the show… her heart and soul was ripped out… via Kristen and “Father” Eric…. she’s a big time player… and contributor… to DOOL… and deserves Leading Lady Status.

#4. FH” Anna… I may get some flack for this… OK… but… since she was left out of last years Emmys’… I think her strongest WORK was the year before… no doubt about it… Finola Hughes… deserved to WIN last year, over Heather Tom…. and… a celebrated artist… even she won’t argue that… I LOVE this lady… she beacons for the fans… I’ll cry , if she makes the pre-nom cut… and WINS

#5. MW’ Ava… it’s my call… but… she’s GH new leading Lady… and should be recognized… for GH production… to keep GH at the forefront… she ably mixes in with the whole canvas… the most… yeah? I can’t find a single reason she shouldn’t not win… but… I think she’d acknowledge… that her love for this forum… and employment… is plenty … LOL… whatever

I have to give it to ED’ Kristen: love her too much

    Outstanding “younger” actress….

I’m so happy… these two younger ladies… are part of the nomination, process:

Tea’ daughter, Dani…. nuOLTL – Kelley Missal
Bianca’ daughter, Miranda… nuAMC – Denyse Tontz

these mother/daughter combo/duo’s : I fell in love with them.

and… it may be, because, of how much I love their mothers

    I am actually… more struck… by :

nuOLTL, Corbin Bleu, Jeffrey King… he had all the makings.. of being one of the best character on that show… I think he should be hired for DAYS…. in the new role of “Micah”

nuAMC, Eric Nelson, AJ Chandler… he was riveting… in his coming to terms… with, JR… coming out of his coma… and dealing lack thereof… of parent(s)

    hence, my salute to TOLN

    p.s. I LOVE Tea – Florencia Lozano

First, do you people not read the whole article before you get all hurt because MM wasn’t nominated. IF you read the whole article you would have saw that HE took himself out of the running not that he wasn’t nominated. Yes he did do good work this year. We do not know what really happened. An actor’s private life is well that their private life. The old saying works very well here, what goes on behind closed doors should stay behind closed doors. This is none of our business. And before any body gets on their high horse I have been a victim of DV and various other abuses so if it happened it needs to be dealt with LEGALLY.
Second, as a HUGE Steve Burton, I have a hard time seeing him listed as a supporting actor but I know he just started on the show so I will give it some time.
Third, to all the nominees, congratulations. For the most part, I am excited to see each and every one of you on there.
Fourth, there is one name I think is lacking but I will keep it to my self.

Wait. Why aren’t Amelia Heinle/Elizabeth Hendrickson in the Lead Actress category? And why is Jessica Collins in that category, she is a supporting actress and I can hardly remember any relevant storylines she has had. Oh and Cynthia Watros… she has onlu been on “Restless” for 3 seconds!

Rooting for Sharon Case, Billy Miller, Amelia Heinle, Blake Berris, Hunter King & Daniel Polo.

    • Sharonda

      March 4, 2014 at 12:22 pm

Jessica Collins should not have gotten a nom, she should get a cooking show and try to win in that category. Where’s Michelle Stafford’s nomination? I think actors shouldn’t be able to remove themselves. Like Debbie Morgan and Michael Muhney. IMO I feel like the Primetime Emmy is worth more than Daytime, and the Oscar trumps over the both. Well, I look forward to seeing Debbie Morgan or Michael winning an Oscar!

I agree with you! It would have been nice to see Muhney being nominated. As for Jessica Collins, I like her but her character is a supporting character. She should not have been allowed to enter this category honestly

Love Maura West and her role of “AVA”, she is Perfection day in and day out. Eileen Davidson was superb too. Maura is my #1 choice with Eileen #2 and Laura Wright/Sharon Case tied for #3 Heather Tom #4 and Jess Walton #5.

    My thought:

Since recurring, I was wondering why Jess Walton submitted Lead but then I was like, if she submit the scene when she found out Katherine passed away then yes that’s LEAD because she rocked that episode!

Sharon Case all the way, let’s hope she makes the final cut!

Billy Miller better win Lead Actor! Peter Bergman and Christian LeBlanc were also excellent but Billy Miller has this hands down!

Katherine Kelly Lang is like Melody Thomas Scott, so well deserved but always fails to get nominated by Emmy voters! Heather Tom hands down when she found out about Brooke and Bill!

Jessica Collins should have submitted herself for Supporting instead of Lead.

Melody Thomas Scott, where is she? Why didn’t she make the list for Lead Actress? Eric Braeden didn’t make the list and I have a feeling he probably decided not to submit himself

John McCook really didn’t do anything last year. Don Diamont should have been submitted instead of him!

    James Scott rocks……… 🙂

Shawn Christian, I feel he was more Supporting than Lead but I could be wrong!

Arianne Zucker, hmmmmm………..She’s pretty good and I do feel she was Lead but…….I’m not sure

Robert Adamson, Cynthia Watros, and Doug Davidson: why did these 3 submit themselves PERIOD??????? Steve Burton was somewhat good last year!

Scott Clifton is more LEAD than Supporting.

    Where is Jacqueline MacInnes Wood????

Amelia Heinle, Melissa Claire Egan were pretty good in their scenes. Liz Hendrickson should have submitted Lead instead of Supporting because she rocked the scenes as a grieving mother! Tracey Bregman was good but I just wasn’t sure is she should submit herself!!!

Lot of people are arguing about Michael Muhney not being nominated but some of you didn’t read towards the end that he decided to remove himself from the ballot.

Younger category is pretty good, like the nominations. Christel Khalil is a bit over 25, why is she still submitting herself as Younger Actress! Happy to see Hunter King, Max Ehlich and Daniel Polo submitting themselves and Chandler Massey, Casey Moss, Freddie Smith, Camilla Banus and Kate Mansi. Why is Adam Gregory even nominated??? Happy to see Kim Matula nominated! Lindsey Godfrey, she’s ok!

As far as Best Drama, this may be Y&R’s year………….Disagree if you like but Katherine Chancellor’s death/memorial was beautiful even if several of you didn’t like it and eventhough most of you were angry with them killing off a child, Delia’s death was truly remarkable!

Billy Miller as lead actor all the way. Congratulations to all the pre-noms especially the Y&R nominees. Peter Bergman did some great scenes but I do hope Billy wins.

As for the question at hand, I think Maura West is amazing, and also like Katherine Kelly Lang. I’ve enjoyed the quirkiness of Scott Clifton, Linsey Godfrey is hilarious, and I think Ashlyn Pearce is going to be a force to be reckoned with. As much as I used to like some the the Y&R cast, the thought of them being nominated, let alone winning an award after this abysmal season –just sticks in my throat.

This list is very strange !!

    Best Actor
For MM, we knew that this case, real or not, it would complicate the victory, and even the appointment. But why Peter Bergman ? It’s an amazing actor, but in 2013, the two leaders on the soap was MM & Eric Braeden !!
Braeden is a wonderful actor, and between his wedding with Nikki, Katherine’s death, the back at Newman Entreprises, he will must be here !! The confrontation with Adam the day of Nick & Avery’s wedding was extroardinary ! He proved that is again TGVN ! The powerful of this scene !! Whaao…
Doug Davidson ??! I appreciate, he deserved last year, but not for his work in 2013 !!
Happy for Billy Miller, but he can’t win in Lead Actor…
Maurice Benard…his confrontion with AJ after Connie’s murder was wonderful !!
Where is Don Diamont ? On B&B, it was THE actor, not John McCook !!

    Best Actress
Why Jessica Collins (who are a supporting actress) and not Tracey E. Bregman ? It’s very strange ! The reverse would have been better !
Eileen Davidson, I say YES !! Great actress !! But Ali Sweeney can’t will be win if Davidson is in the competition !
Jess Walton ? Surprising ! It’s a great actress, but Melody Thomas Scott will have better here (she has not recurring, her) and she has best storylines (discover of her son, wedding with Victor…)
HT & KKL !! Of course, it will be HT, but for me, KKL is better !!

    Best 2nd Actor
    Again Greg Rikaart & Bradford Anderson ??!! Pff, it’s always the same actors. Robert Adamson ? It’s not a supporting actor, it’s a 3rd or 4th actor…
Greg Vaughan will be on the nominees. I don’t like this actor. Steve Burton will be too…I’m not sure that is a good choice.
Where are John Aniston for scenes with Brady ? Where Joseph Mascolo and this wonderful episode where he is at the hospital and pray God for his save Tchad ?
And Jacob Young ?! It’s a great supporting actor too !

    Best 2nd actress
Cynthia Watros ? Kelly is maybe a interesting character but she too recent. Congratulations for MCE, EH & AH !! Great Great Great Actress !! I hope that Hendrickson will win the Emmy (scene where she yells at Billy after Delia’s Death)…
Where is Marcy/Emme Rylan ? And Kristen Storms ? And Lauren Koslow ?

I think that we will have:

    Best Actor
    – Maurice Benard (For his confrontation with AJ)
    – Peter Bergman (for his scenes with Phyllis & Summer)
    – Christian Jules Leblanc (for his scenes with Carmine)
    – James Scott (for all his scenes of 2013)

    Best Actress
    – Eileen Davidson (I hope she will win)
    – Filona Hughes (for her scenes with Duke or Luke)
    – Maybe Ali Sweeney (why not, she leaves DOOL…)
    – Maybe Jess Walton (but I’m not sure)

    Best 2nd actor
    – Bradford Anderson (because Academy love him)
    – Blake Berris
    – Steve Burton (when he knew true about Connor)
    – Scott Clifton

    Best 2nd actress
    – Melissa Claire Egan (for scenes with Burton & Muhney)
    – Elizabeth Hendrickson
    – Maybe Heinle for Delia’s Death
    – And….I hope Jane Elliott !!

I am truly disappointed that Michael Muhny was not on this list, and if he removed himself then I can accept it. Every Y & R fan knows he would win if he was nominated, he is an excellent actor and is the most deserving of the award, he poured his heart and soul into the role. However I do not understand how Cynthia Watros could be listed for a nomination when she has been on Y&R for just a few months.

Mary, MM did remove himself from the list. It was his call, and his fans like myself should respect it.

Does any one else notice how Darin Brooks makes faces and kind of “mugs” when he is listening to someone else talk? I find this annoying & try not to look at him all the time. I really can’t understand why he got a nomination, because I don’t think he is that good an actor. This may be just my opinion.

As for Young Actress – The only one that has the acting talent and ability is Kristen Alderson of General Hospital. Young Actor – their are only 2 on the list both from General Hospital who gave amazing performances – Chad Duell and Bryan Craig. Supporting Actor, the best of the bunch would be William DeVry of GH, Bradley Anderson of GH who ripped peoples hearts out with the baby storyline. Steve Burton is long overdue for another nomination for his work on Y&R, Greg Rikkart of the same show is overdue for a nomination, and Scott Clifton did good work on the B&B. Supporting Actress – Jane Elliot is not only due for a nomination but also for another win since its been quite a long time for her stellar work on GH,, Kimberly McCullough truly captured everyones heart with her brave and emotional reunion story on GH, Cynthia Watros no matter what she does is an amazing actress to see her name on the ballot would be welcoming for her work on Y&R, Tracey Bregmann has had an amazing career and is overdue for her work on the Y&R, and Nancy Lee Grahn of GH did great work this year with her storyline with assisting her daughter in the cancer story of Danny. Lead Actor – Peter Bergman’s work as always is stellar he definitely needs to be on the ballot for Lead Actor, Jason Thompson of GH, also had very emotional scenes with the return of his dead wife on GH, his tears and his reactions to it all truly ripped your heart out, Roger Howarth, always the most amazing actor did great work on GH as a recast of the character of Franco, Maurice Bernard of GH is like 7 time Tony Winner Tony Geary, he is always and should always be on the ballot – his work is stellar ever episode he is in and no one cries or suffers like the character of Sonny. Christian Le Blancs work on Y&R is also note worthy. For Lead Actress – Sharon Case is long overdue for another Emmy since she last won in 1999 for Supporting, She has been a lead on Y&R for years and its nice to see her finally get her due. Kelly Monaco of GH is hands down the winner in this category for her work on GH, the child cancer storyline truly showed that she is an amazing actress the AWARD should be hers. Heather Tom’s work on Y&R is note worthy, FInola Huges on GH had many emotional scenes worthy of her nomination as well, and Eileen Davidson is long over due for her nomination even going back to the time on DOOL when she played several characters. The one missing from this list is Multiple Emmy Winner Erika Slezak for OLTL, this actress is The Queen of Daytime Television and her work on the reboot of OLTL should have been noteworthy and she should have been nominated.

‘Strahan, Sara and Keke’ Canceled by ABC; Show Aired In Timeslot That Once Housed ‘All My Children’

No matter a network tries to do, replacing All My Children, which ran for 41 years on ABC has remained as everyone that follows the world of daytime drama knows, problematic.  Now come word via Page Six that Strahan, Sara and Keke has been canceled.

The show hosted by Michael Strahan, Sara Haines and Keke Palmer if you recall, replaced the foodie show, The Chew which ran for seven seasons and was the first show to air in the timeslot that belonged for over four decades to All My Children.

Back in March of this year, Strahan, Sara and Keke took a break to make way for ABC’s News  Pandemic: What You Need to Know, a daily coronavirus report anchored by Amy Robach, Dr. Jen Ashton and sometimes TJ Holmes.

However, because the show did well in that two-week experimental run it morphed into GMA 3: What You Need to Know.  The new version of the show also talked about hot topics in the current news cycle, as well.

ABC’s Catherine McKenzie began producing the “GMA3” show four months ago and the network officially announced her as Executive Producer of the program on Thursday.

While ABC has yet to officially announce Strahan, Sara and Keke is over, a spokesperson told Page Six: “We’re proud of our teams at ‘SSK’ and ‘GMA3’ and how quickly they transitioned to producing a daily show to give people the news and information they need during an unprecedented pandemic, and conversations continue about how the show will evolve in the months ahead.”

It appears that Strahan, Sara and Keke won’t be returning; the future as many of their staff have transitioned over to ‘GMA 3’ with producers from ABC News Live, (the streaming division), helmed by McKenzie.

As for the futures of Strahan, Haines and Palmer; Strahan will continues to host Good Morning America, and they are all actively under contract with the network.

So, what do you think of  ‘Strahan, Sara and Kek’e being replaced by ‘GMA 3: What You  Need to Know’?  How long do you think that show will last in the timeslot once taken up by residents of Pine Valley? Comment below.

Eva LaRue Talks On Her Daytime Emmy Nomination, And Opens Up About The Loss Of John Callahan

For Eva LaRue, the past two months have been some of the most emotionally gut-wrenching and challenging of her life, following the passing of her ex-husband, father of her child, and dearest friend, John Callahan (Ex-Edmund, All My Children). The outpouring of support she has received not only from her former AMC cast mates, but the soap world in general illustrates just how dear Eva is to all of us, and how many people had special memories of their time with John.

While mourning the loss of Callahan along with their daughter, Kaya, there was some heartwarming and re-affirming news that any actress would love to hear. Eva was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series for her work as Celeste Rosales on CBS’ The Young and the Restless, and she is great company as her former AMC co-star Michael E. Knight (Ex-Tad) is also nominated along with her for his work on General Hospital.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit our country and world hard, but through it All My Children virtual reunions emerged as fans were engaged by the content, transported to happier times that brought them back to familiar faces in Pine Valley in which Eva participated along with her good friends, Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos and so many more, thanks to the EW. com weeklong event which concluded on Friday.

Michael Fairman TV talked with Eva in this very candid, at times heartbreaking, and open conversation where she shares details into the final days of her beloved John, her last moments with him, and how she tried to plan a memorial in his honor during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For so many of us, 2020 has certainly seen more lows then highs, but in the end for Eva, to receive a nomination now (an award she was last nominated for back in 1997 as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Dr Maria Santos on All My Children) couldn’t have come at a better time. Here now is our conversation with Eva.

Photo: JPI

I’ve been thinking so much about you.  I’m glad we could do this, and in the midst of the tragedy of losing John Callahan, and then receiving a Daytime Emmy nomination.  What was your reaction when you learned you were nominated in a category with none other than your former AMC castmate and good friend, Michael E. Knight (Ex-Tad, AMC, now Martin, GH)?

EVA:  Oh, I know!  He’s the first person I texted!  I was like, “Congratulations, Michael!  Did you ever in a million years think that you and I would be in the same category of anything?”  Then I said, “And when you win this, can I just borrow it for the weekend just to dress it up and take pictures with it… just want to borrow it, just babysit the trophy for a weekend, please?” (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

What did you end up submitting that landed you the nomination for your role as Celeste on Y&R?

EVA: I submitted a scene with Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R), who I have been friends for 30 years, if not more, and in all that time we had never worked together.  I met him when I was married to John O’Hurley (Ex- Dr. James Grainger) because John was over at The Young and the Restless at the time.  I went to a Christmas party with John to Peter and Mariellen’s house, and do you know who else was there?  Lisa Rinna (Ex-Billie, Days), and it was before she had gotten Days of Our Lives. She was dating Peter Barton (Ex-Scott Grainger, Y&R) at the time. We both ended up on soaps at the same time.  So, I submitted a scene with Peter, who is amazing, warm and open and such a great actor. Then I submitted a scene with my on-screen daughter Sasha Calle (Lola, Y&R) – I love that girl, and another one with Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R) who has also been my great friend for a couple of decades. The other scene I put on my reel was with me and Jordi Vilasuso (Rey, Y&R) who I also adore.  He is awesome and such a sweetheart.  I only had two months worth of material to draw upon.  So, I just submitted the scenes that I liked the best, and they all were within story, and all made sense.

Photo: Getty Images

Where is Celeste supposed to be now?

EVA:  She went back to Florida, and that was that. I would never say never to anything, but it was always supposed to be a short stint, and it was great.

So not only is it you and Michael E. Knight, but Jeffery Vincent Parise, Chrishell Stause, and Elissa Kapneck. This Guest Performer category is loaded!

EVA:  I know! I know and love, Chrishell (Ex-Amanda) because we worked together on All My Children, too, right before I left, and she is a doll.  She just might be the sweetest, kindest, girl on the planet.  She literally might be the sweetest person who ever lived!  I don’t know the other two nominees personally.  So, I’m excited for them too.  It’s such a diverse category.  It’s just really fun to be nominated with all of them.

Photo: Hallmark Channel

You were nominated before, though, for your work as Maria on All My Chldren during the emotional baby switch storyline; working opposite Susan Lucci (Ex-Erica) for a lot in it.

EVA:  Yes.  I was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for All My Children, and I was nominated for Best Original Song.  I wrote a song when Maria came ‘back from the dead’ to All My Children, with a producer friend of mine from Miami Sound Machine.

Photo: Live with Kelly Ryan

So, you’ve been doing all of these All My Children virtual reunions, which is so interesting that in this pandemic, people are looking for content, and they dip back into these beloved shows.  Was it fun doing the Santos Family reunion with everybody?

EVA:  Oh yeah, it was really, really fun.  I only saw in the big picture everybody else’s photo who was a part of it, and the people who I actually do hang out with the most, and see the most, and talk to the most, are Kelly Ripa (Ex-Hayley), Mark Consuelos (Ex-Mateo), and Sydney Penny (Ex-Julia).  I don’t see Sydney as much, but I do see her probably once every two years at least, but Sarah Michelle Geller (ExKendall) I see all the time and talk to all the time.  Kelly, Mark, and Sarah are the ones who walked me through that first week when John Callahan passed.  They literally were on the phone with me, the three of them, almost every day, but I got beautiful outreach, from what seemed like everyone.  This is when no matter how many years have passed since you have been in daytime, that the daytime family as a group – there used to be fifteen shows, now there are four – and people have bounced around and they are on other shows- – but the entire soap opera community reached out,   I cannot even tell you how much that meant to me.  It was overwhelming, and it was really, spectacularly beautiful.

Photo: JPI

I hope it was some solace to you knowing how much people loved John, and also that they love and care so deeply for you.

EVA:  I mean, people who did not even work with John reached out.  Every soap was represented by getting a hold of me, sending a text or a phone call, or if they didn’t have my personal information, they tweeted, or whatever it was… literally from every reach of soapdom.  It was amazing.

And your relationship with John was amazing with all of the ups and downs you went through; that you remained such dear friends.

EVA:  We remained really great friends all the way.

Photo: JPI

I so remember when the two of you first got together and it was this storybook real life soap couple romance.  John was always so sweet to me.  I was so, so sad, and you know, my heart just broke for you.

EVA:  I think it was just such a shock.  I don’t think anybody, and even Kaya were talking about it, because she graduated this week, and her dad is not here.  We’re not having a graduation, because of COVID-19, which sucks on top of it, but we were just kind of talking through the feelings of it.  She said, “You know what’s weird?  I guess I never pictured dad getting old, and I always wondered why, and now I know.”  When I would get on John about his heart or his health, he used to always say, ‘Oh, don’t worry Evala, (he always called me “Evala”).  I’m going to be here.  I’m going to be here a long time.  I’m fine.  I’m going to be here to walk Kaya down the aisle and see her kids and all that.  Stop worrying,” Every time he said it to me, something in my gut said, “I don’t think he is.  I don’t think he is,” but I always just dismissed that.  But never in my wildest dreams did I think John wouldn’t make it to her high school graduation.  He was only 66.

Photo: JPI

I had heard you ended up running to Palm Springs to be near John.  I can’t even imagine what that must have been like.

EVA:  The only good thing about this pandemic is that we had been shut down for only two weeks at that point.  Kaya and I got in the car.  John had some heart procedures the day before, on a Thursday.  I called him in the morning before he went in for the procedure.  I said, “Call me as soon as you get out of there.  Call me as soon as you come-to again, and you’re good,” and he said, “Okay, I will.”  I said, “I’m going to send Kaya out to you on Friday for the weekend, just so you have somebody to hang out and watch you, and I might come out too,” And then, I said, “Maybe, I’ll come down too in case you are feeling weak, just to watch out for you for the weekend.”   So, he called me after the procedure.   I said, “I cannot believe they sent you home! You just had some major heart stuff done.”  He said, “Oh no, they said I’m fine.  It was just run-of-the-mill heart stuff, angiogram…”  I was like, “Are you sure?”  He said, “Yeah, I’m fine.  I’m just tired.  I’m going to go to sleep.”  I said, “Do you want me to send Kaya out tonight?” and he was like, “No, no, no.  Send her tomorrow.”  So, in the morning, I called him at 9:00am.  No answer.  I texted him.  He always texted me like Johnny on the spot, and then texts me immediately back.  So, I call him again at 10.  Nothing.  His best friend calls me about a half-hour later, “Hey, I talked to John at about 8:00 this morning.  He said he was feeling really, really shitty and was going to go back to the hospital, and then, I texted him again at like 8:30 to just tell him something, and he hasn’t texted me back, and he always texts me immediately back.”  I said, “Oh my, God, I’ve been trying to get a hold of him for two hours; he hasn’t texted me back,”   I said, “You know what, I’ll call you back.”  So, I called his friend who lives down the street from John, and I said, “Go to his house, please right this second, knock on the door, jump the fence, knock on his bedroom, he might be asleep, I don’t know.”  So, he gets there, nobody is answering.  I said, “Break into the house please.  So, he did, and John was collapsed in the bathroom.  They called the paramedics, and as soon as they called me back and said, “John is unresponsive in the bathroom,” Kaya and I threw everything in the car, and what usually takes us two and a half hours without traffic, we made it down there from Los Angeles in an hour and forty-five minutes.

Photo: JPI

I don’t know how you made it down there in one piece. Thank, God!

EVA:  I drove so fast, like literally broke all land speed records and thank God because we got there just in time.  He was in emergency.  He hadn’t been put up in ICU yet, where we wouldn’t have been able to see him.  They weren’t going to let us in the hospital.  Thank God the person answering the door was an All My Children fan.  She was the one saying, “Sorry, no one is allowed in the hospital, no one can come in,” and I was like, “No, no, no, my ex-husband just came in.”  She said, “Was it Edmund?” and I said, “Yes, it was Edmund!”  She said, “Okay, follow me.”  Thank God for All My Children.  Thank God.  So, we followed this woman secretly, and we get to spend a half-hour with him in Emergency.  He was already on life-support, totally unresponsive, but we got to play John his favorite music, we got to just sit there and hold his hand and talk to him, and tell him how much we loved him.  Sarah Michelle Gellar called right when we were in the hospital in Emergency, and she said, “Put the phone by his ear,” so I put the phone by his ear, and she talked to John too, and she told him how much she loved him.  She used to always call him “GP”, which was short of grandpa, because she came on the show when she was 15, and she didn’t have a dad, and John acted like a dad to her – but she used to always call him “grandpa”, and he hated “grandpa”, so he was like, “You can call me “GP”, but not grandpa,” so she always called him GP.  I just put the phone by John’s ear, and what was crazy is that when she talked to him, his feet started twitching.  He started moving his feet.  Then, when Kaya was talking to him about Yankee season, he started moving his feet.  We were kind of hopeful that something was changing for the better.  We had about a half-hour with him, and then, they took him up to ICU, and then, we knew we couldn’t see him again.  They called us later that night that he had passed.

Photo: JPI

I am just so thankful that you got to see John one last time.

EVA:  I thank God every day that we got to say goodbye, because if we hadn’t gotten there in time to say goodbye, I just don’t know.

It’s very rare that a couple after a divorce, who have a child, and went from romance to dear friends, end up maintaining that relationship so many years later in their lives.  I know so many people who were together at one point in their lives, for years, and they don’t even talk to each other now.

EVA:  Well, you know, like any divorce, the first four years afterwards were super contentious but then, by year five, we kind of had this major breakthrough, and from then on, he was one of my closest friends, and one of the things we always kept alive for each other was we loved to  dance together. We fell in love, I think, dancing because originally our characters on AMC met at this country-western bar, and we had to take country line dancing lessons on the show.  They hired a choreographer for us so that during those scenes where we were falling in love, we would actually be able to do a two-step! So, we went out and practiced at Denim and Diamonds, which was a big country-western place in New York City at the time.  We used to go out with a whole group of us.  It was me, and Teresa Blake (Ex-Gloria) and Kelly Ripa, and her boyfriend at the time, Winsor Harmon (Ex-Del), sometimes Walt Willey (Ex-Jack); we just had a whole crew of us who would go out country dancing.  John and I also loved singing together.  He had the most amazing gravely kind of rockstar voice, but his real talent was harmonizing.  He could harmonize to anything.  So, when he would come over, we would sit in the kitchen and sing, and sing, and sing until the late hours because that’s what we loved to do, and that’s what he loved to do.  That’s one of my favorite last memories of us.  He was just over the month before, and Kaya’s bedroom is near the kitchen, so she came out and was like, “Can you two shut up?”  It was like two in the morning and we were still singing in the kitchen. (Laughs)  John was my dear friend and my confidant.

Were you able to have some kind of service during this stay-at-home pandemic we are all dealing with, in order to mourn the loss of John?

EVA:  It’s been so crazy.  We couldn’t even have a funeral.  That’s what made it all the more heartbreaking.  There were less than twenty of us, and we just got on a Zoom call and memorialized John.   I thought we were going to do a big Zoom memorial, but it seemed so overwhelming and so impersonal, it just was rubbing us wrong in every way.  Every way we were looking at it, we were like, “Oh my, God, we just can’t.”  We wanted to invite everybody he had ever worked with, and we were like, “No, we want to do that when everything can open back up again, and invite every person, and have a party” because John was always the life of every party.  Maybe we can do that in the fall or next year.  I kept trying to write something for the small memorial we did do for three days.  I kept coming back to this one song, because John was always the consummate bartender, too.  I sang a song that Bette Midler sang on the very last episode of Johnny Carson.  It was “One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)” and it’s about a bartender who has got a big personality and a lot to say.   I changed some of the words around a bit just to reflect who John was, and so, I ended up singing for it instead of speaking.  We always talked about that last episode of Carson; how stunningly emotional it was when Bette sang that song to kind of sing Johnny off for of all of his years on the air.  So, that’s what I did and because we loved to sing together, it just made sense.

I do think you touched upon something, earlier, too.  I don’t think any other genre would have that kind of unbridled camaraderie.  It’s such a family, like you said.  I don’t think you would find that quite like this; certainly in show business.

EVA:  I really don’t think you can. Even though there is always a good amount of competition in the soaps as well; between the soaps it’s like they are any sports team, but there is always a level of respect, love, and familial connection within the community.  I think that is why they have stood the test of time.  I really do think that is what hooks our audience, that is what keeps them there after all of these years, even though unfortunately the genre is antiquated looking, there is something about it that is nostalgic, familial, and comfortable for people.

Every time I talk about All My Children, why do you think everybody go ga-ga for it, when it’s been off the air for several years now?

EVA:  It speaks to people’s childhoods.  It speaks to how we grew up.  You can’t undo nostalgia.  You can’t.  It’s in the way we grew up, the things we loved, the things that we scheduled our lives around, the people we fell in love with on the shows that we watched, who we cared about and loved their storylines. I grew up watching All My Children, General Hospital, and Days of Our Lives.

It must have been a spectacular moment for you when you realized you were actually in Pine Valley and a member of the cast of All My Children then?

EVA:  It was amazing.  I was a fan when I got the show.  I was a straight up fan.  I fangirled walking through that dressing room hallway for the first time! I was trying to keep it in check, but you know … (Laughs)

So, in closing, you would say, “Thrilled to be nominated”?

EVA:  Yes.  So fun.  It has really been a rollercoaster of a couple of months here.  That nomination was literally the bright, shining spot in all of this.
