From 2005-2011, the stars of ABC Daytime took the stage at New York City’s Town Hall one night each year for ABC Daytime Salutes Broadway Cares. The evening featured dynamic production numbers, heartfelt ballads and hilarious skits. Now, 10 years after that final performance, the iconic ABC Daytime actors revisit their performances as they help raise money for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
When the event began in 2005. it was for a one-night benefit concert to celebrate All My Children’s 35th Anniversary. With overwhelming support from fans, the event continued for six more years and included cast members from One Life to Live, General Hospital and co-hosts of The View. Over its seven-year run, ABC Daytime Salutes Broadway Cares raised an incredible $1.85 million.
“This event is truly one of a kind,” Broadway Cares Executive Director Tom Viola said. “We are so thankful to the stars from ABC Daytime for joining us again as we relive moments from this delightful tradition, while helping to provide lifesaving medication, healthy meals and emergency support to those struggling during this ongoing pandemic.”
“It was such an incredible privilege and joy to join my fellow co-stars to perform in the seven ABC Daytime Salutes concerts to benefit Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS,” said former All My Children star Susan Lucci. “There are no fans like ABC Daytime fans. Their love and support continue to astonish us. We can’t wait to share these special performances with them and help raise money for so many in need during this difficult time.”
Lucci also shared her excitement on her Instagram account expressing: “We’re getting the fans and cast back together!!! He could be part of the Jerome mob…but what would be an unsual nice twist is that he isnt back for anything sinister but with the story hinting at he might be…maybe Donna Mills is the Jerome leader, Ninas mom and Victors estranged wife all in one(i think someone else might have mention this too)…too many possibilities!!!
Yeah, I mentioned that possibility about Donna Mills too, I thought she would end up being Nina’s mother, a blood-Cassadine or married into the family, and the head of the Jerome organization through ownership of Barrett Enterprises.
And yeah, I was hoping Ric wouldn’t have ties to the Jeromes, it would be nice to see him and Sonny build a true brotherly bond.
If anything, I would love to see Ted King back and Lorenzo Alcazar be the bankroller for the Jeromes. THAT would be epic.
Yes, a brotherly bond would be nice…also id like to see a more softer side of Sonny…i wouldnt mind Sonny and the Jeromes being ruthless business rivals instead of bloodthirsty killers as well…im mixed about Ted King…i dont know if want him back here or at Dools as the new Bo like fellow fan Patrick suggested…i wish he could do both! and i cant wait to see Donna Mills!!!
Anything Elizabeth is a plus to an already good show but I hope she says “no”.
Rick Hearst is a phenomenal actor. He has been missed at GH for years and the TPTB would be smart to make him a permanent fixture again. GH needs more measured, nuanced and capable acting like his and less campy, cartoonish nonsense. When he is on screen, it becomes clear to longtime GH fans what we have lost.
I agree, Rick Hearst is awesome. They really need to get rid of Heather, as much as I love Robin Mattson, you’re right – the character has become a complete cartoon and it’s become very redundant.
I really hadnt watched much GH during the original run of R.H. as Ric but when he recently returned and in a few scenes, the show, imho, started to have a different feeling…for the better. I feel the show is becoming slightly more interesting. Rics return so far is a lot better than Robins…i dont mind some campy humor thrown in…we need some balance with all the gloom and doom but less violence and a cut back on some of the comic book level of campiness that has over run the show could make this the great dramatic serial it… Read more »
I like how RC holds back and makes us wonder and surprises us..
Perhaps Ric can take Liz off the wallpaper..
RC did mention, awhile back, that Liz would be getting a love-interest, looks like it might be Ric..
Whatever Rick is doing back now, please say it’s the end of the never ending Robin goodbye. I thought last Friday was it, and now we had to see her’s and Kimberly’s mini-drama continue onto Monday. And to make it worse, act as if it was okay to drop in for a few weeks and then ditch Emma , Patrick and fans. Enough already!
Totally agree with you….if she’s not coming back…why all the build up unless it’s going to launch some big tory line….other than Robin eventual return someday…
I would be disappointed if Ric was financing the Jeromes only because the scenes seem to be heavily suggesting that. I think Ric is a red herring for whoever the real boss is. I’m wondering if Frank Valentini is pulling off one of his big surprises here and we might see the return of an old nemesis from Sonny’s past.
That’s what I was thinking! I was hoping for Ted King to return as Lorenzo Alcazar, and wouldn’t it be amazing if Claudia Zacchara wasn’t really dead, and she was married to Alcazar? THAT would really be something, it would open up SO many possibilities, and since Claudia and Ric weren’t on the best terms when he left in 2009, that would give him a reason to stick around longer.
Is it so strange that Cameron who is Zander’s child with Elizabeth, and later was Ric’s stepson, not being sorased is younger than Molly, who is Ric’s daughter with Alexis, only after LiRic were no more. Soap Continuity. It seems that Cameron might even be aging more slowly, go figure. In any event. Keep Ric around and not just to mess with Sonny.
If youre looking for logic in SORAS you arent going to find any. Days and Y and R are particularly bad at SORASing things to he extreme…where Alice Horton had to have been about 125 years old when she passed. And on Yand R, Nicholas now has to be over 50 within the timeline of what we know about Summer being born AFTER Cassie died when she was 15. We have to accept that soap towns are in some bizarre time warp and just go along for the ride.
I worry that they may want to “age” Emma!! I don’t ever want to see her replaced!
I’m for anything that puts Rebecca/ Elisabeth in the forefront so if Rick wants to pine for her along with nick then it’s bout time , in fact add aj because if there’s a women who deserves to have guys falling for her it should be Liz , I’m tired of seeing skanks like Carly and Sam being portrayed as desirable and poor liz is reduced to second banana.
I hope Ric takes Sonny down…permanently! BTW, never before or since seen any “Rick” spell their name as “Ric.”
I always liked Ric. Glad he’s back! one of the few comebacks I’m excited about! GH is definitely hinting he’s involved with the Jerome’s- that’ll be interesting, but I’d like to see Sonny and him unite and bring the Jerome’s down! I never thought about Alcazar but that would be cool. I’m discouraged with so many characters on the show, I miss my favs having the screen time with a good story (Carly, Elizabeth, Sam). Just wasting talent…
No… I do not want to see Liz date Ric! I like Rick Hearst but I do not like Ric Lansing! Liz needs someone much better than Ric! Glad Rick Hearst is back though!!!
I don’t care what Ric is up to regarding Sonny. I just want Ric and Elizabeth to get a real chance at love and romance without the Sonny drama thrown in. I would love for him to spend time with Cam and Aiden and see what he could have had instead of this horrible Sonny drama that every write writes for Ric Lansing. Ric Lansing has more layers than any character I’ve seen on GH in 50 years. Go LiRic!! I really hope TPTB keep Ric Lansing around for a very long time, like some years.
