So, who are you glad to see nominated for this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards? Who do you wish was on the list? Share your thoughts and reaction via the comment section below.
was fine yesterday with initial noms released but one thing i find absolutely ridiculous is 4 supporting actor nominations for general hospital it’s an insult to every other show i hope dan from days wins and they all cancel each other out no show should have more than 3 noms in any category it’s a turn off
GH’s issue is that other than Benard, most of the men are supporting (unless they have an odd year where they’re driving story). Chavez could’ve been bold and submitted in Lead, but jumping from younger to lead in one year might’ve been a tough sell. The odd choice in that category is Duell. What really stood out last year? Lindstrom’s past two nominations were in Lead, but he hasn’t wasn’t featured as much as earned the proper nomination in supporting.
So what if ALL five are from GH? If they deserve it, it should be that way. Everyone wants a trophy these day!
Disagree 100%. I don’t like Dan F but he has no business being in the supporting category. E.J. is a LEAD character! I had hoped Nicholas Chavez had submitted in lead but I will be rooting for him, with Jon Lindstrom in second place.
Congratulations to all the nominees! However, I really want all my GH nominees to win above all else! LOL! Can’t wait to watch the show!
I am rooting for GH in seven categories: Series, Directing, Writing, Chavez, Kerr or Thiebaud, McCoy, and Mills! However, I prefer Billy Flynn and Sharon Case or Melissa Claire Egan in the lead categories – I wanted Maura or Cynthia to win Lead Actress (Maura sadly didn’t submit).
Apparently Maura West did not submit for lead. By the significant amount of screen time, Cynthia Watros is a questionable miss in Lead Actress.
Maurice Benard is really the only one the could potentially be nominated for Lead Actor from GH. Easton and Howarth didn’t have significant story.
Almost a sweep for GH in the Supporting Actror category. Had Chavez not won previously, he’d be favored. Duell, really? Jon Lindstrom for the long deserved win.
God rest her soul, but did Sonya Eddy really have significant story to take away a slot that should’ve went to Kathleen Gati? Glad to see Brook Kerr get a well- deserved nomination.
I’m sure the Sprina crowd will protest no nomination for Ali in the Younger category, but whether or not you like Josslyn, McCoy played some heavy stuff last year.
Although sometimes over-the-top, Alley Mills gave it her all as Heather.
I am happiest about GH getting the most nominations; The Bay getting 3 nominations; Billy Flynn, Sharon Case, Melissa Claire Egan, Sonya Eddy (what a nice surprise!), Brook Kerr, Kelly Thiebaud, NICHOLAS CHAVEZ!!!, Jon Lindstrom!, Eden McCoy, Alley Mills, Robert Newman and Kevin Spirtas.
Not happy about Y&R getting half of the lead nominations (yet only one additional acting nominee!), the “rounding up of the usual suspects” in Lead Actor (all but Flynn), Finola Hughes over Maura West and Cynthia Watros (Maura didn’t submit from what I have read), and where are William Lipton and Sidney Mikayla? I hope it’s just that they didn’t submit, otherwise shame on the nominators!
And no Ali Sweeney ): Maybe she didn’t submit? She really deserved Guest Performer!
IF I had a ballot GH would win 7 of the 9: Series, Directing Team, Writing, Chavez, Kerr, McCoy and Mills, with Billy Flynn winning for Lead Actor and Sharon Case or Melissa Claire Egan winning for Lead Actress (even though I am fed up with CBS winning that category every single year)…
Lipton wasn’t featured as much in 2022. Mikayla departed in early March, so not much material. Avery Pohl, however, has a genuine beef about not being included.
Avery was not eligible in the category (under 18 this year). William and Sidney both had great material to submit. They should have been nominated – perhaps they didn’t submit though.
Would love to see gh win and the bay win keep Nicholas Chavez as this years winner
Keep Nicholas Chavez as winner of this year the bay should win why not add the actors from the bay show
Nominations anymore are like participation medals. No one is left off the list! I wish actors could be selected and not need to enter the race. Good talents are overlooked. Really with such a small playing field, I am not surprised by the lists. Praying for stronger writing on all shows when we do this again next year.
Where is MAURA WEST!!!!
Very happy that Melissa Claire Egan and Jason Thompson are getting recognized for the excellent work they did during Chelsea’s depression story. Eden McCoy should be a shoe-in for Younger Performer, Jon Lindstrom did phenomenal work as Kevin this year and deserves to be recognized for it, and Alley Mills was excellent as Heather!
However, I’m stunned that Sofia Mattson, Kathleen Gati, Tabyana Ali, Avery Pohl, and William Lipton were absent from the nominees list! They all had incredible performances this year. GH has been on fire, whereas Y&R has continued to be a snoozefest until very recently. Sharon Case for lead actress??? Also, where is Kimberlin Brown!? She has carried B&B on her back with Sheila being front and center all year.
I wondered about the absence of Miss Brown. I did not care for the writing of Sheila’s story but the actor was very good in consistent portrayal. Sharon Case is underrated and like Miss Brown, she has some clunker story turns written for her character, but remains true in her portrayal.
Nomination Thoughts: Supporting actress, hands down, Kelly Thiebaud, General Hospital. I dont even know why Sonya Eddy was nominated? She was hardly on the show and had very little story this past year. Lead actress has to be Melissa Claire Egan, The Young and the Restless. Not a fan of hers but she did well with her story this past year. Supporting actor: Nicholas Chavez, General Hospital or Jon Lindstrom. Nicholas is a young super star in the making and Jon as Ryan Chamberlain was nothing less than perfect! Younger Performer: Eden McCoy is so good on GH. But, to be fair, I dont know the other young actors so maybe they deserve it more? Guest performance: I loved Alley Mills, General Hospital as Heather Weber. She had major shoes to fill being a recast and she did a great job. Robert Newman as Ashland Locke was a horrible recast! Same now with Trevor St. John as Tucker. Talented guys but its just two more things to add to the list that makes Y&R unwatchable! Its a mystery to me how Y&R gets a casting nomination? But, the soaps made it another year so us as fans, there are no losers!
ABC’s General Hospital with 19 and The Bold and the Beautiful with 14 speaks for itself. My top 2 daytime dramas! Big mistake to leave out Kimberlin Brown who had outstanding and chilling scenes as the evil Sheila this past year. She should have won last year too. Hate it! And how did they miss Kathleen Gati’s performances on GH? Eden McCoy for GH is hands down the best younger performer! And Alley Mills shook up GH with a crazy take on Heather. Wow! GH should take Best Drama, Writing, Directing, and Casting trophies. Enjoyed Jacq Wood for B&B but Sharon Case will probably win. Expect Billy Flynn for DOOL to win over Maurice. Jon Lindstrom should win Supporting Actor and that is long overdue. Sentimental fave is Sonya Eddy but I think Stacy Haiduk of DOOL may win for Supporting Actress. Again…where is Kimberlin Brown? Good luck to all!

George Cheeks, CBS President & CEO, on Timeline to Launch New Daytime Drama, ‘The Gates’: “We’re So Focused on Getting it Right”
March 2024 will be remembered in the TV and soap world when the news broke that CBS is prepping a brand new daytime drama. Many had thought a major network would never bring a new daytime soap into the world, given that the last time it was attempted was 25 years ago when the now defunct Passions bowed on NBC.
However, The Gates is definitely in development and moving forward with some major players associated with it including: Michele Val Jean as The Gates writer, showrunner and one of its executive producers, and Sheila Ducksworth from NAACP Venture
Now, for the first time since its announcement, George Cheeks, the president and CEO of CBS and chief content officer for news and sports at Paramount+, spoke on the project that will feature a Black family as its central focus who live in a wealthy gated community.
Speaking with Vulture, and when asked if The Gates is really something that truly has a chance of getting on the air, Cheeks clarified, “It’s super real. And just to give you a little bit of the backstory, when we hired Sheila Ducksworth to run the NAACP Venture, she and I had multiple meetings talking about what different genres she was going to lean into, and we talked a lot about daytime.”
Cheeks added, “One of the things that the data made very clear to both of us is that daytime soap operas over index with Black women, and yet when you look at soap operas, it’s usually sort of a white-led family with supporting characters that reflect more of our society. So we just thought, wouldn’t it be interesting to flip that and make the core anchor family a Black family, and then make the other characters reflect more the broader scope of society?”
The CEO gave props to Michele Val Jean, and how Ducksworth came to the table with the former B&B and GH writer. “She found this great writer, Michele Val Jean, who’s been in the soap opera space for 30 years. She came up with a pitch, and we loved it,” shares Cheeks. “We brought Procter & Gamble into it as well, because if there were going to be (product) integrations, we could do it more holistically and organically. All of that is to say, we did a lot of work on the front end to put this together. So while yes, it’s development, it’s accelerated development.”
When prodded on the timeline of when The Gates could come to full fruition, Gates related, “The actual timeline and when we’re going to do it is still uncertain, because we want to get this right. I mean, there hasn’t been a new soap opera launch since I can’t even begin to tell you when. But we have great success with Bold and the Beautiful and Young and the Restless, and so we think we’re the right folks to be launching a new soap. I wish I could tell you more about exact timing, but we’re so focused on getting it right, and that will dictate when we’re ready to launch it.”
The CBS exec also shared that whether The Gates will wind up an hour soap or half-hour is not yet determined, but that it is being developed as an hour show.
So, after reading what George Cheeks, the CBS President & CEO had to say about ‘The Gates’, are you even more excited for what looks to the first new network soap in 25 years? Comment below.

51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Announce Broadcast Date on CBS
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) revealed on Tuesday, that the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on Friday night, June 7th (8 – 10 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+*.
This year will mark the 18th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards, which is more than any other network.
The 2024 Daytime Emmys will take place at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles. Back in December of 2023, the delayed 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were also held at that venue. The June 7th date for the upcoming ceremony will be the first time in several years that the event is scheduled a few weeks earlier than normal; excluding last year’s revised date to the actors and writers strikes.
Lifetime Achievement honoree, nominations, host, and additional information will be announced in the coming weeks.
In a statement, Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS noted, “We eagerly anticipate our return in June as we once again partner with CBS to recognize the exceptional and talented individuals who make daytime television great. We’re thrilled to kick off our second half-century of the Daytime Emmys.”
The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will once again be produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI), which produced Daytime Emmy Award ceremonies on The CW in 2009 and on CBS in 2010, 2011, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI.
So, glad to know that the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards honoring performance and shows in the 2023 calendar year, will be held in early June this year, and once again broadcast on CBS? Comment below.
