OLTL Alum Ryan Phillippe Weighs-In on Shocking Twist in Season Opener of ‘Big Sky’

Photo: ABC

Hold on to your seats! Last night’s highly-anticipated arrival of ABC’s new drama, Big Sky from David E, Kelley offered several shocking moments and surprises as the dark story took viewers down a twisty path as we were introduced to all the characters.

Throughout it’s promotional push the network has touted the series having three leads played by One Life to Live alum, and TV and motion picture star, Ryan Phillippe (Ex-Billy Douglas), along with Katheryn Winnick, and Kylie Bunbury

Turns out that was a set-up so viewers, who had spent the entire hour learning of the complex relationships of this threesome, and how they work together to begin to solve a crime of three young women who have gone missing and kidnapped   But then in the episode’s final moments, Phillippe’s character of PI Cody Hoyt is shot dead!

Ryan shared his thoughts on going into the series knowing his character would be killed-off right off the bat: “I was shocked certainly, and I think that’s also what made me so excited about it. So often in entertainment you can see what’s coming a month away, and to have moments in a series like this where it kind of takes your breath away, when you are absolutely shocked and did not see it coming, it’s exciting to me.”  Phillippe added: “I think it sends the message that in a series like this, no one is safe, so you really have to pay attention and hope that the people you love stick around.”

But will Phillippe’s Cody be seen on future episodes such as Milo Ventimigilia is seen on This Is Us?  Ryan told a press panel: “That’s not the last you’ll see or hear of him.”

Look for Cody to definitely appear in flashbacks, while Deadline is reporting that the actor will be seen in several more installments of the TV drama.

In story, Cody was shot by State Trooper Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch) who is covering-up being at the epicenter of sex trafficking ring in Montana.  While viewers saw a bloody ending, we never saw an image of a dead Cody either, we can only assume.

Did you watch the season premiere of Big Sky? What do you think of network TV becoming more like some of the hottest shows on cable with shocking and unexpected twists right off the bat as the series begin? Share your thoughts below.

Well, it may very well be one of the last times we see or hear him, because the show is horrible and won’t make it to the new year.

Why not, because you don’t like it?

I only tuned in for Ryan Phillippe. If he’s gone – so am I. Idiot writers.

Oh, I loved the first episode although I had no idea what it would be like. I have always liked David Kelley’s shows so that’s why I watched it, and it did not disappoint!

Violet, I’m afraid it disappointed me. Too many cliched characters and plot lines. To say nothing of violence against women.
Hope all is well with you. Take care.

Nancy
Thanks for your input and I respect your reasoning. I admit I do not think of all those things you mentioned, I just watch what I like and truthfully I did not see all the stuff leading to the final scene. I had no idea beforehand what the show was going to be about so was totally surprised at the ending with the Trooper and his part in it, leading to the women trafficking . It is brutal and hopefully they will stop all these animals that are doing this in the real world. Right now I am so scared of this COVID and our country turning into a cival war, I watch just about anything to keep my mind off of it.Iam O.K so far. Am counting on my Vitamin D to keep me that way. You stay well also. Nice “talking” to you, though I did most of it. Have a very good Thanksgiving.

Filled with cliches telegraphed a mile away. A waste of talent and time.

GH’s Kin Shriner Remembers Jackie Zeman on the One-Year Anniversary of Her Passing

Today on May 9th, marked the one-year anniversary of the death of Jackie Zeman, who for 45 years played the iconic nurse Bobbie Spencer on General Hospital.

Jackie passed away at 70-years-old from cancer and leaves behind her two daughters, Cassidy and Lacey, and all of her enduring fans, and of course. her GH co-stars and dear friends.

Perhaps, her dearest friend was Jackie’s longtime co-star Kin Shriner (Scott) where for years they shared stories on-screen as Bobbie and Scott, and off-screen developed and cultivated an unbreakable bond.

Michael Fairman TV spoke exclusively to Kin Shriner to get his thoughts and his memories of Jackie on what is for him and many, a sad and heartbreaking day.

Kin expressed: “It does not seem like a year. I think of Jackie every day and every day. I am approached often as an ambassador to the old days. Every day somebody talks about the heyday of General Hospital bringing up Bobby, Scotty, Luke, and Laura. And it always saddens me because I know that Jackie would still want to know that the fans still love that period of time and we miss her, and I miss that. I don’t get to come in and have a scene with her again, ever. So, it’s all sad and I can’t believe that it’s a year.

When asked what does he think Jackie’s legacy is, now reflecting on her passing a year later, Kin shared, “Her legacy is that It she changed daytime television in the seventies. She was the catalyst that came into General Hospital and created Bobbie Spencer from the wrong side of the tracks, the fiery firecracker woman that she was.”

Shriner added on their deep connection, “Jackie brought it all to the screen and she brought it to real life. She raised two great kids, and was a spitfire of a woman and someone that I enjoyed being around from the day we met to the day she died, I was in her life, and she was in my life. We went through a lot together, you know, ups and downs, and it’s just sad that she’s not here anymore.”

Coming up, make sure to watch Kin and many other stars from the soaps on the Michael Fairman Channel’s very special livestream event Daytime Stands Up  in conjunction with The Locher Room and Stand Up To Cancer on Thursday May 16th from 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.
