Exec Prod Ken Corday On Move to Peacock: “It’s Still Going to be the Same DAYS That You Know and Love and it Will Be Better in Small Ways”

September 12th will be another first for Days of our Lives.  The long-running NBC soap opera will debut in its new daily episode home on the NBCUniversal streaming service, Peacock.

Previously, DAYS has delivered two chapters of the limited-series, ‘Beyond Salem’ and a Christmas special to the streamer.

In an interview in the latest episode of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, Days of our Lives executive producer, Ken Corday, elaborated on the series move from broadcast to streaming and what it means for fans of the show, who may be concerned about its future.

Corday shared: “It’s still going to be the same DAYS that you know and love and it will be better in small ways.” He added, “First, longer program length. Come spring, we will able to say and do things that are a little more titillating than on broadcast.”

Ken also noted on the next stage of Days of our Lives’ legacy, “It changes, it’s growing, but all in the best ways. The network has been extremely positive, encouraging, extremely happy, all the extremes, and are allaying any qualms I may have. So it’s really wonderful to have that kind of profile from programmers and the business people that run NBC and Peacock.”

In addition, Corday revealed that the move to Peacock was baked into the soaps last contract when DAYS was renewed back in 2021, and that the network always had the right to migrate the show exclusively to Peacock, and that at this juncture they decided to do just that.

So, are you getting ready to follow DAYS as they move to Peacock so you can see what’s happening each day to all your favorites in Salem? Comment below.

Nice that he believes all that is true.

And what a surprise that this move to Peacock was in the works the whole time! I’m shocked, I tell you, shocked! Did NOT see that one coming AT ALL!

I saw it coming.

Yup! Can’t wait! I figured with the move to peacock they would be able to do more I think it’s a good thing! I also read more people watch it on peacock then broadcast now any way so it makes sense… I couldn’t believe all the fuss when it was announced! Peacock is like 5 dollars a month… not that big of a deal get rid of cable then and just get the apps it’s cheaper anyway!

It was cheaper when it was free since 1967 when I started watching Days….

You have to pay for cable don’t you so nothing is actually “free”

Been using Peacock here in Hell for a while now (HellCable is affiliated with Comcast, which shouldn’t surprise anybody) so this change doesn’t impact me at all.

There is a segment of aging mortals out there who have been watching Days from the beginning in 1965, many of whom are not into streaming technology. The price & the fixed income thing might not be as much of a barrier for them as technophobia is. We’re talking about the folks who never got their VCR clocks off of “12:00” and who still have landline phones… though they might have added a cellular “flip” phone by now… just because the long distance calls were cheaper that way. Computers & streaming though… that’s a whole other universe, as far as they’re concerned.

Ken Corday seems to be willing to gamble that such people are a really small percentage of his audience, but I wouldn’t bet your soul on that.

Satan…I agree about technophobic, but it’s not always the case. In a way some may be more out of date, but not total hostage to tech. I don’t trust tech and their companies. I don’t like the loss of privacy, and all the unwanted emails from groups/companies I didn’t invite. I like simple turn on/ term off “tech” we used to have that doesn’t “upgrade” every year forcing you to spend more for the new, improved product. I don’’t want to have to add new or remember passwords, etc all the time to get into a site, even my own. And having just moved recently all of the changes are a pain in the …

All very valid points, of course.

Comcast is the largest cable company in the US, so their subscribers are already eligible for “premium” Peacock at no extra charge, and of course they would already hava all your information if you’re already a customer. Cox cable is the third largest cable company and they also include Peacock with their service.

So that’s a big portion of the country already covered… assuming those people already have internet access with or without their TV subscriptions.

Currently Days is on the “free” tier of Peacock which is available to everybody. There seems to be a discrepancy as to whether that will change or not, but in this Devil’s opinion it would be a really BAD business move to take the show off of NBC and also take it off the free streaming tier at the same time. Of course, between Comcast, Ken Corday, and ReRon there’s a collective library of “bad moves” to their credit. Hopefully one of the three will be wise enough to not let it happen here.

Thanks for your inaccurate profiling. I’m a 1965’er. I have no difficulty with streaming, programming vcr’s or anything else you imply I can’t do. For me, it’s the expectation that it’s fine to start paying for it. It’s only about 5.00. That sounds like a late night infomercial. Only five easy payments of . . .

Hey, I didn’t say everyone. I’m older than all the rest of you combined, and I manage to keep up with technology… or at least as recent as what I can actually get shipped down here to Hell (which has been admittedly problematic since 2020).

But there have probably always been those who have been opposed to whatever the big change was at the time. A hundred years ago, you had folks who couldn’t see the logic in giving up their horse & buggy to buy a car. Environmentally speaking, they were probably better off, considering what we know now. But that wasn’t the argument at the time, of course.

Me too, Pat! Since 1967 Days has been free to watch???

It will never last. It’s too boring right now for people to bother streaming. At least on NBC, people would turn it on and leave it on for the hour out of habit but that’s finished since as I said – it’s just too boring to go and play from streaming.

I’ve been streaming on Peacock for years now. I think it’s great! People crying about 4.99 a month aren’t true fans, IMO.
Oh, and I’m 60 btw. Streaming is the present and the future. Cut The Cord!

Won’t be watching after 40 years!! Its devastating!!

I agree with you,Why couldnt they send those stupid talk shows to peacock? No anything to screw us fans.

Is it going to be free like it is now?

I think the key word from Corday is “titillating.” DOOL seems to be headed to soft porn, straight and gay, with its Beyond Salem series and the inherent creative freedom beyond network TV. They are hoping to get online viewers by pushing the envelope further with partial nudity and risque language. This is NOT your mother’s (or grandmother’s, for that matter) soap opera!

James…I get (and agree with) what you’re saying. Hey…as you (and others) know, I AM NOT a prude!!!!! It’s just that…it seems to me that (lately) A LOT of DOOL’S storytelling is getting WAY TOO TRASHY…and that is NOT why I watch soaps. I watch soaps for escapism, humor, sensible storytelling and realistic social issues. Most of all, porn (in general) belongs on the Internet…PERIOD!!!!! Yep.

As always, have a good one, Brother.

Thank you for the backup, Jaybird369! I’m not a prude either, but we can see what’s going on. I watch soaps for the same reasons you so eloquently enumerated. Take care, Friend!

Another backup here, James— I’m no prude either—far from it. But, if I want to watch the “dirty”, as it were ( which I don’t), it’s easily available. Days has become outrageous in almost all aspects; especially the trashy clothes worn by some of the female cast.
And, the sex scenes are boring, far from titillating.
Shoutout to you, Jay—-glad to “see” you here.
Later, guys—❤️

Great to see your reply, Celia! Since my original post, the ensuing episodes have clearly shown an abundance of skin and suggestiveness to the point of absurdity. Even the former priest is running around half-naked and jumping into bed with an eager accomplice he ‘barely’ knows. Take care, Friend!

Jamesj75,
Well, Iam a grt.grandmother and for the most part the stuff you speak of usually doesn’t bother me, but lately iam starting to draw the line. I did not enjoy new Alex sporting his manhood the other day or am I liking
Leo and the show he put on at the questioning with Rafe, it was disgusting to say the least. So I guess you are correct about Days pushing their “creative freedom”.I don’t know how much I’ll be watching if this is par for the course.

Hi Violet Lemm! It just seems to me that this is the direction they are taking. As for Leo, we know he’s over the top, but it’s a bit too much over the top. Although he can be amusing and I like the fact that he’s not a cookie-cutter bland gay soap character that everyone just loves, does he have to come on to EVERY man with whom he interacts, gay or straight?

Which brings me to Rafe: I like his good-guy character, but his patience with Leo was unrealistic; he should have nipped that in the bud at his place of employment, A POLICE STATION! So as we slowly watch Nicole break Rafe’s heart because she is still pining over Eric, Rafe will be dumped again. Forever the doormat, forever someone’s second choice. At some point, Rafe, grow a — spine!

And this is why I will not watch after 57 years.

Joanne, they are lucky to have you as a viewer since the beginning.

The fact that the show recently invested in brand new 4KHD cameras is a very positive sign. DAYS is going to look better than it ever has. Peacock is putting its money where its mouth is.

Camera’s are fine but in a show where everyone is gorgeous it really doesn’t matter. How about getting some new sets. That hotel room that every one in Salem sleeps in is for the birds as is Jakes room over the garage.

Agreed! lol the new dock set was cool. I am excited for the new cameras though

Sorry, NOT sorry! I won’t pay a dime to watch DOOL. If it’s not free (within my present cable lineup) then count me out. This would apply to DOOL only. It’s not worth an extra penny. I would consider $5 (no more) for Y&R, though; I’m holding on until they hire new EP’s and writers. It has to get better, right?

It’s not The Same Days that we KNEW and loved anymore anyway, so what’s to miss? Sorry, but it’s all been a lot of crazy SLs and nonsense anyway lately, i,e Stefan coming to life, killing off Abagail and now talk of bringing her back, another death coming up,letting all the criminals out of prison to terrorize everyone. Paulina and her nutty daughter, turning Ben into Alex a woman crazy sexist, horny ass, etc, etc, etc. I only watch bits and pieces now so I won’t be bothering to go to Peacock to watch this drivel!

Looking at the soap ratings for this week its pretty clear that all of the soaps will be on streaming services within five years. Nighttime tv is all game, gladiator and talent shows now.

I am not sure Days will make it on streaming. If it does Days is gonna have to think out of the box to survive. I know Days has all those episodes in the can but I would look long and hard at possibly re editing them to give the show greater continuity and punch. Its really frustrating when Days ends on a high note on Friday and then the story line disappears for a week before you get back to the story line everyone was waiting to see. Personally I think Days should be broken up into two shows. Days of Our Lives Classic for the older folk and Days the new generation for the young ones. That way they can do more daring story lines with the younger cast but bring back Hope, Bo and the old gang for the older set. It would certainly be cheaper for Peacock to do this than continue to spend millions on failed shows that don’t last two years.

I really liked the stuff they were doing on YOU TUBE like Cutting Room Floor. They might want to put those segments on free Peacock as well as classic Days of our Lives scenes introduced by Doug and Julie, Marlena and John, Abe and Kate. Just throwing stuff against the wall and seeing what sticks.

Is it true that every episode of Days of Our Lives will stream on peacock? From the first episode to present…?

That rumor has circulated through Hell as well, but I haven’t seen anything to confirm it. Peacock does have the capability to do such things… for example, if you pull up “Saturday Night Live” – currently in it’s 47th season, you can actually find every episode, going back to 1975.

Of course with Days, it’s a question of whether Corday and/or Sony have actually kept all of these old episodes properly archived and are willing to do all the processing necessary to convert them to the digital format for streaming. SNL does 20 – 22 episodes a year. For Days that would be a much bigger number, so it would be a huge job in either case… assuming all those tapes still exist.

My soccer fanatic husband has been watching the English Premiere League games on Peacock Premium for this past year now. We have Cox cable and so we get Peacock Premium for free. It has some commercials but less than on NBC.

He goes to Apps – Peacock, and then it remembers where you left off the last time. I then used it to watch the Beyond Salem shows. I was really surprised at how easy it was.

I am thankful that I will still be able to watch my fave show this way.

Absolutely following DAYS to Peacock. If you sign up in September, it is only $20 for the entire year. If I eat a sandwich tonight instead of going to Olive Garden, I just paid for a year of DAYS.

i’m from Canada, i’ve been watching Days since 1979, we don’t have Peacock here, but we have W network, so happy about that, and i don’t have to pay extra since W network is available on my cable compagny.

We don’t need more titillation, but I figured it was going that way with some of the stuff Alex does and says.

It needs to be better in BIG ways. That’s the whole problem.

SHAME ON YOU, NBC Ken Corday from NBC to Peacock…you, Ken must be selfish in many directions on DOOL and betray lots of fans who watch DOOL on NBC for years

Um… you do realize that it was NBC’s decision to make… not Ken Corday, yes?

This is an idiotic idea. Most viewers of this show are long time fans. Fans that do not stream or know how to stream. They’ll lose their biggest fans.

Peacock Raising Subscription Prices $2 Dollars a Month This Summer; Includes Days of our Lives

As the Paris Summer Olympics are a few months away, the Peacock streaming service has revealed its plan for a two dollar summer price hike on its subscription plans, beginning in July for its content which will include Days of our Lives.

According to Deadline, in July, look for the monthly price for Peacock Premium to increase to $7.99. Premium Plus, which offers limited advertising, download capability and live local programming, will now be $13.99, while  Annual plans will go up to $79.99 for Premium and $139.99 for Premium Plus.

This price hike will effect new customers starting on July 18th, while existing subscribers will notice the price change on their next billing date on or before August 17th.

This marks the second price change in two years for the streaming service, the previous one being in 2023, which was the first since the service launched back in 2020.  The Summer Olympics in Paris which will be on NBC and Peacock run from July 26 to August 11.

The bright spot for Days of our Lives fans, is that unlike if the show was still on network television and NBC, the show would be preempted for two weeks, but with it being on Peacock it will continue with all-new episodes without interruption.

At the recent Days of our Lives 15K episode celebration, Michael Sluchan the EVP, Current Scripted Programming & Limited Series for NBC/Peacock shared that the soap opera is doing extremely well for the streaming service, and they were very happy with its performance.

If you want to join Peacock now, there is still some time to get in on the current rates to watch DAYS and all of the programming and series it offers.

So, what do you think about the Peacock streaming service next price hike? Comment below.

Serena Scott Thomas to Days of our Lives, But What Role Will She Play?

Look who’s coming to Salem next? In a tease on their official Instagram account, Days of our Lives has revealed that Serena Scott Thomas has been on set and will debut in an upcoming role, leaving many fans guessing just who might she play.

The English actress and documentary producer has previously starred in Diana, Her Story as Diane Prince of Wales, Dr. Molly Warmflash in the James Bond  film The World Is Not Enough, and played the villainess ‘Watcher” in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, and Bruce Willis’ wife in the film, Hostages among others.

Serena is the younger sister of Kristen Scott Thomas, best known for her Oscar-nominated role in The English Patient. Several DAYS fans are already weighing in that Serena will play Konstantine’s (John Kaeplos) wife.

Photo: DAYS IG

However, NannyKat 63 may have it all figured out the best, when she posted, that not only will “Serena play Kostantine’s wife,” but the character “had an affair with Victor Kiriakis and got pregnant.” Thus, making Xander (Paul Telfer) her son. She went on to theorize, “Perhaps, And John and Steve will find her in the nick of time… and she’ll enter in time to stop the wedding of Maggie to him. Xander will find out his true identity then. The baby was given to Victor’s brother to be raised in Scotland.”

Photo: JPI

Sounds plausible to us! Another guess came from donnamoore_23 who said, “Ya’ll think he could be Bobberette ‘s mom or sister or .. SOMETHING to do with his story .. someone who can back up what trauma he went through to be so sick? 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I think y’all are right could be Katerina.”

Photo: JPI

Two DAYS stars, Tamara Braun (Ava) and Linsey Godfrey (Sarah) also shared comments on Serena Scott Thomas’ upcoming appearance on DAYS. Godfrey simply said, “YES!!!! while Braun add her guess, expressing, “Ava’s mum. Oh wait, her mom was killed by her dad. Or was she? 🤔”

So, what do you think? What role will Serena Scott Thomas play on Days of our Lives? Share your theories in the comment section below.
