GH Shows Good Prognosis After First Few Days In New Timeslot!

Courtesy/ABC

In the first week in its new timeslot, at 2PM EST and 1PM CST/PST time, General Hospital scored very well in the first three days of this week in the ratings!

On Monday, GH had an impressive 2.5/8 in households who all tuned in to the action and the hype surrounding the Jerry Jacks-filled adventure drama, and then as the week has been unfolding, GH has been holding its own and increasing in key numbers in its new timeslot surrounded by The Chew and Katie Couric’s new talker, Katie.

According to TV Media Insights, here are the numbers through Wednesday, “Based on the 56-metered (overnight) markets, General Hospital is averaging a 2.3 rating/8 share in households this week (through Wednesday). And that, comparably, is up by 15 percent from the lead-in average (2.0/ 6) and 10 percent from One Life to Live in September 2011. Results among key women 25-54 (1.8/11) have increased by a hefty 80 percent from the lead-in (1.0/ 7) and 20 percent from One Life to Live in September 2011. “

So have you been enjoying this week’s episodes of GH?  What do you think of its chances maintaining and adding viewers in its new timeslot sandwiched between The Chew and Katie in most U.S. markets?  Weigh-in!

Yes. I have been enjoying this week as well as every week since the new regime took over.

I just hope that the numbers stabilize positively given that all the excitement of the Jerry Jacks saga is over. Now we have the Sam-Tea baby switch heating up and, of course, Robin and Duke, et al. I am hoping the fans are going to keep watching.

I’m so happy and excited for GH that it’s new time slot has helped the ratings!! IMO it is the best soap on the air, and I’ve been watching soaps for over 50 years. I know, I’m not the demographic they go after, but I know quality actors when I see them!! This is a wonderful show full of great actors such as my favorites, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Julie Berman (Lulu). Any couple who can make me cry, laugh, and hold my breath all in one day are just unforgettable and endearing!! I hope GH stays on the air for another 50 years!!

Barb….all I can say is AMEN!!!!!! I asm a fifty yr viewcome April 1st.

GH needs a stronger lead-in!

Who do you suggest???????????????? For a stronger lead-in….

Another soap! 🙂 We need more drama … less talk!

Hopefully once the rights revert back to ABC for AMC and OLTL, they will get over their failed strategy and to a hybrid soap of the former two. Wishful thinking I know but even they have to realize their attempt was an epic fail and cost millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs for nothing.

I agree 100%………..

ABC really screwed up daytime programming…BIG TIME!!!!!

yeah! in my abc market they have a local made show, 4 people showing and making comments on you tube type of videos. like is that the best you could come up with to fill that 1-2pm slot??

The pressure is on the writers (and actors) to keep the show interesting and intense with continuity, romance and good acting. This week has been awesome, but needs to be just as good off location and back in the studio for new viewers to stay invested. Those of us who are long-timers hang in there no matter what, but new viewers need to be enticed to stay.

Great news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my own experience is any indication, then no, I don’t think the ratings will be maintained. I’ve missed this week’s episodes due to the time change and I’m sure I’m not alone. I don’t watch anything on ABC other than GH anyway, so my TV is never turned to ABC until 2:00. I ‘ve already kicked my forty+ year habit of watcing GH every day, since the new regime came in with this hybrid soap, so I’m not really all that interested anymore.

Hybrid soap?? Having a total of three OLTL characters join the show makes it a hybrid of the two shows? And that paltry number, even with the returns of Anna Devane, Felicia, Robin, et al, is enough to make you turn away from a show you’ve watched for 40 years?
The rigidity of some viewers really puzzles me. Not to mention the over-reaction. Does the attempt to draw in OLTL fans to help save GH from extinction in such a modest way really warrant such disdain?
Sometimes it is apparent that soap fans are their own shows worst enemies.

And I doubt that most people were unable to make the time switch, considering how few people watch in real time anyway. And if the show is missed the first time around, it can be found on the network website, YouTube, various other places. So I devoutly HOPE that your experience is no indication of anything other than your own sour grapes.

I don’t understand how you can feel that way,. I love the character of Todd he makes me laugh, he is one of the best additions to this show in years. Gh was boring for about 2months, now its exciting and I can’t wait to get home from work, to watch it.

Well aren’t you just a fountain of judgemental opinions? I expressed my opinion on the article without trying to paint anyone else’s as ridiculous or stupid. For the record, it’s people like you , who think they are entitled to disparage any GH fan who doesn’t agree with their glorious rapture over the show, that has helped turn me off. So well done!

GH has not been this good in years. The characters from OLTL have enriched GH, not taken anything away from it.

Exactly.

And “Didjanoit”, my response to you was exactly what you were looking for. Your post was a passive aggressive dig at other viewers, not an opinion. You wanted blowback, and blowback you got.
If you can abandon a show you claim to have loved for 40 years because of the inclusion of three characters from another soap then the show didn’t mean very much to you – which is why I doubt you were a faithful GH fan for any consistent length of time.
So don’t p#$% on the show and tell me it’s raining.

You “kicked” a 40 plus year habit of watching? Hate to say it if 3 characters from OLTL joining the cast made you turn out then you are not a true soap fan or a fan of GH. I know I speak for many here and especially myself when I say there is nothing that would make me stop watching GH. I too am a 40 plus year fan of ALL of abc’s daytime line up of soaps dating all the way back to Dark Shadows! There have been numerous storylines and characters I did not like but I NEVER stopped watching. I’m sorry you feel as you do but GH is not a hybrid and I hope it’s around another 50 years.

Actually “boes”, if I wanted to be psychoanalyzed, I’d pay someone who was qualified to do it. Your opinion of me and my motivation means less than nothing. Thanks for sharing though.

I am just as entitiled to stop watching GH after watching it practically every day for all those years, as all the OLTL fans who didn’t watch GH at all. Does having my own video library of over 400 six hour tapes and DVD’s, that I edited down to my favorite scenes and stories, count as being a fan of the show? Or am I only a “true” fan if I continue to spend hours of my life on a show I don’t enjoy much anymore? Should I be shamed into watching GH so I can earn the title of “true fan”?

Well said.

And “Didjanoit”, nobody and certainly not me is psychoanalyzing you. I don’t have to do that to see passive-aggressive behavior when I read it. For whatever reason you enjoy dissing the show you claim to love because it’s basically had a new wallpaper job. And I don’t know what a “true fan” is supposed to be. But I do know what a faithful fan is and that you are not.
So enjoy the tapes you say you have and revel in the world as you wish it to be in all respects.

But I suspect the thing you dislike the most is that things aren’t exactly the way you want them and what you really can’t stand is being called on your attempt to stir it up. Too many people think they can get away it because other people are too well-mannered to call attention to bad behavior.
I’m not.

Boes my sentiments exactly. When I first saw the reply my instinct was to take that reply and just tear itr up. But then I realized that made me just as bad so I sat back and waited. I knew someone would understand what I was trying to say. I also realize that people are entitled to their opinions. And like you said if “Didjanoit” wants to sit arould and watch tapes and relive what was then that’s their right too, Didjanoit is not a faithful fan and just doesn’t know the meaning of the word loyal either.

In my oiion, Didjanoit knows exactly what they are talkng about! I cant stand that all these OLTL viewer are coming on here acting like they know what GH is about! You all are just trying to re-invent OLTL in Port Charles!

Jeez angela when did they promote you and Boes to God status. I have been a 46 year fan . I watched long befoer utube Vcrs and dvds and worked nights to watch g.h. int he daytime along with Amc and One life. So to cal any fan not a true fan makes you look ignorant. How dare any of you call a fans not a true fan because she doesn’t agree with catastrophe Carvileti and that insipid Valenti and I’m being nice here. If they had brought the Lifer charterers on as new one there wouldn’t be that much hoopla . But they didn’t .Catastrophe and insipid frank want to continue one lifer and now he’s foaming at the mouth and not even denying that he want more lifers over . T the extinction of G.H. Cast/ The handwriting is on the wall Steve saw it and so has Jason Thompson Laura Wright and Bransford Anderson and Maurice B is seeing it. So Yeah they are trying to make it into the soap they murdered. yes that right they killed it as a fan of life since day can see it now. Wow some nerve yoy think you all have One life didn’t save G.H. the fans did and if the ratings lie posted are any indication than its not long to be aired. I think Boes calling anyone who happens to watch the old show not a loyal is rude and insulting and when did you appoint your self know it all of the G.H.? huh? i didn’t see the th Valenti anoint you king of opinions. Well did he?
Everyone is entitled and bad mouthing another one well just speaks volumes at what kind a person you are . Same goes for Angela .

Today , we can smile for our soap.

This is not the time to be negative holding a glass half-full.

Rejoice!! GH is alive !! CELEBRATE !!

Yes, considering where it came from, this is a fairly good start for GH in its new time slot. But for GH to have a real chance to survive past its 50th anniversary, these numbers will almost certainly have to consistently and sharply grow in the weeks ahead to justify its roughly $50 million annual price tag. The show has to sustain most of these people as everyday viewers, not those who just pop in and out here and there for special stunts. None of us know what ABC’s benchmark level is that GH needs to reach (if they have one), but being up one week and then down the next week or two will almost certainly not cut it at this point. Stay tuned.

I’m happy for the ratings… but I wish they were not being compared against OLTL. All things given, would GH be enjoying this gain if OLTL wasn’t cancalled ?

Hard to know for sure… but I strongly think it’s the OLTL team that have come into GH that has caused the ratings increase.

Katie does not follow GH in the Washington DC area. The Chew is on at 1pm, GH at 2pm, Anderson Live at 3pm and Katie at 4pm. I don’t watch The Chew and I don’t and won’t watch Katie!!! GH’s great numbers have nothing to do with its horrible lead in!!! And Katie isn’t benefiting from their great numbers in my area!!!

It airs here in San Diego at the same time as Days. I hope both shows can get The Chew and The Talk canceled.

Loving GH just get on with the baby switch story. I want Jason to have his son now!!

Great job, RC/FV! Now let’s have our beloved ONE LIFE TO LIVE back as GH’s lead-in. Long live ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

Out of all the soaps, GH was the Best all week. The rest were BORING!

Still loving the McBain and Sam storyline!!!!!

Long live GH!!!

I love the new time, I watch it now instead of recording. Before I would have to pick up the kids when it was on.I just wish Robin would come back ,I don’t want to see Patrick with anyone else.

It’s better to watch the show as it airs (if you’re able). Many people don’t realize that when they DVR and FF through the commercials, their viewership isn’t counted by the network. It’s understandable, I suppose, since the advertisers are the ones paying the bills, but the fact that a good chunk of the actual audience is being discounted is distressing.

That’s a good point, Glen! Also, if you do DVR GH, be careful to make the starting time exactly at the hour. The Spew runs right into GH without a commercial break. This is ABC/D’s way of syphoning ratings from GH to make the Spew look stronger! Also, after GH, make sure you change to another channel right away, or you will be giving ratings to Katie poo. These are the sneaky things that ABC/D is trying to get away with!

Yes, THANK GOD!

I have been watchng for really long time, and you now what? THis show is no longer Genera hospital. It is now One Hospital to live! I am seeing all my GH characters backburned to the likes of people like John Mc Bain wo was an ok addition to the cast at best. Starr Manning is rediculous addition and I don’t think she has pulled in any exta viewers. If anything, I tune out when she is on. Todd Manning, well, what can I say? I have always loved him so him, I welcome with open arms. Do I appreciate, MY show being revovlved around him NO! If anything al these implants should be playing second fiddle to Sam McCall, Jason Morgan, Carly Jax, Monica anTracy Quartermaine,Hell Even Epiphany deserves more airtime than these Llanview Screenhogs and just where was the head nurse during this crisis?! Yes people there is something wrong in PortCharles, and it’s not in the water!

Thank you for your post, I agree with you, but just want to add that I loved Todd on OLTL, and adore Roger Howarth. I just don’t like seeing Todd and his family on GH, but would have loved to see RH playing AJ or another character.

I must agree with the OP. I’ve been watching GH since it’s beginning and I can honestly say I’ve never seen so much negating of GH history and forced pairings that make no sense. I also totally agree that these ratings mean nothing. Ratings always jump when there’s some kind of crisis going on, but once it’s over and things go back to the mundane every day stuff, they’re bound to go back down again to where they were and there’s a reason for that.

When someone can look at GH onscreen and declare that “I haven’t watched OLTL in so long” (as someone did to me) then there is definitely something wrong and viewers can go on and on about how they think GH is better or it’s only 3 OLTL characters, but I”ll tell you, to this GH fan and I know many more, the whole ‘tone’ of GH has changed and it’s because it’s not GH anymore, it’s become an obvious attempt by TPTB to save OLTL and ‘honor their audience” (as FV has said) which is a distinct slap in the face to GH , GH fans and why RC and FV were hired in the first place..to write for GH, NOT to create a combo soap.

I absolutely agree with you Trisha and Gloknowsbest.

I stopped watching the CANCELLED OLTL a long time ago. It is a slap in the face for real GH fans to have these characters and S/L’s take over a show that has been higher in the ratings in the long run than OLTL was. They didn’t even have the decency to bring these actors on the show with different names and/or OLTL S/L’s. The only thing I see coming from this is that OLTL will be cancelled again!

Coudn’thave said it better if I tried real hard Alwaysqtee! If the writers wanted to save their actors jobs, then they should have brought them on as new GH caracters an let the OLTL characters RIP along with the rest of the show!

what ? does it really matter if their names are the same, or the characters the same? The characters of Todd Manning, John McBain, Star Manning are all General Hospital characters. There is no OLTL anymore – It can’t be ‘cancelled again.’. They are GH characters now. If you two don’t care for General Hospital, i dare you to find another soap that is produced or written as well as GH is now. I don’t care how they came up with a character name — they are making GH a much better soap than it has been in years.

Hey Guys I agree it is a huge “SLAP” in the face of G.H. fans and actors . Well the handwriting is on the wall Steve has seen it Jason T is seeing it and Laura Wright hey even Maurice is seeing it. when they disavowed any connection between Sonny and Carly or Sonny and Brenda making this absolute Kate the soul mate of Sonny is ramdamdiculous and every true fan of G.H, knows that Brenda and Carly were Sonny’s true loves. What these “writers” have done is destroy the intergrity of G.H. and replaced it with there insipid One life which they killed sure as shooting. Adding 3 of these character did nothing for the rating but it sure has opened doors to have more invaders show up and soon as those off contract with Prospect park you watch who shows up Melisa archer is in Hollywood prepping its in all the spoilers and even Old Valenti lying through his caps said he wants her here. So what happens to G.H. characters the ones who have given their blood sweat and tears to be here ?there tossed under the bus of for the lifer invaders that what and all the rumors of “which One lifer” is coming next is an insult to me as 46 year fan and should be to G.H. fans and not the”new” crossovers who know absolutely zilch about G.H. and its proven many times here.

I find it to be amazing that so many people are talking about all the changes to GH, including the addition of the OLTL characters, yet will argue that GH has not become a different soap. GH had maintained an average of over 3 million viewers for the past twelve years, who evidently liked the show enough to continue tuning in day in and day out. I understand that people who had tuned out because they didn’t like the show are happy about the changes, but that doesn’t mean people who liked it the way it was are wrong somehow.

If all you can see when you turn on GH is a couple of OLTL characters then you must have your eyes closed virtually all the time. It’s irrational the attitude some – thankfully a minority – GH fans have towards a few characters because they originated on another show.

And it really makes no sense unless these same fans have disliked each and every newbie ever to grace the show since they day they deigned it to be perfect. Soaps are an endangered species and it would be nice if the fans of the genre could see past whatever this irrational dislike of other soaps are and realize that if GH does survive, it will be at least partly because of the modest OLTL infusion, not in spite of it.
But “spite” seems to be the motivator here and I can’t for life of me figure out why.

Aw, boes, are you lonesome, bored, or a mental health student needing information for your thesis? You seem to be obsessed with using words like “irrational”,” passive-aggressive”, “rigid” and looking for ways to insult posters who are simply posting their own opinions about a television show. Why exactly are you so bothered by the opinions of strangers, that don’t agree with yours anyway? What prompts someone into personal attacks on people posting comments about a tv show?

Oh, I see! Anyone who has a different opinion than yours must be irrational and spiteful. Okay! ugh!

Didjanoit, my question exactly. What does prompt someone into attacks about a tv show?

You’re the expert on that one.

Opinions don’t bother me, but folks like you who use the posting boards to stir it up, now that does.

Done.

To the mods
This boes poster is rude and insulting and yet others are slammed for differing opinions .That is not right And Angela poster and boes has the audacity to criticize someones loyalty to a soap if they don’t agree.
Its amazing how some think they know it all Boes and Angela are rude posters.

Tristan Riggs is General Hospital’s New Aiden

Looks like there is another new actor in the younger set on General Hospital. Tristan Riggs is taking over the role of Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) son, Aiden.

Previously, Enzo De Angelis played the part of Liz and Lucky’s (formerly Jonathan Jackson) son since 2021. Soap Opera Digest confirmed that Riggs is now firmly in the part.

The switch happened on today’s Thursday May 2nd episode in scenes. Recently, Aiden came out as gay to him mom after admitting his interest in one of his classmates.

Photo: ABC

As Riggs begins in the part, it looks like Aiden is being bullied at school. Elizabeth is trying to get to the bottom of things and made an appointment with school counselors to find out what’s going on, after seeing his book bag had pink paint on it.

Riggs has been acting since he was 7-year-0ld and has appeared on the TV series Walker, True Lies and Best Foot Forward to name a few.

So, what do you think of Tristan Riggs as the new Aiden? Do you hope Aiden’s story becomes more front and center? Comment below.

Juliet Donenfeld is the Temporary Recast as General Hospital’s Georgie

Those who saw the GH preview for today’s May 2nd episode were a bit confused when they saw a young actress sitting with Lois (Rena Sofer) and Violet (Jophielle Love). As it turns out, that young girl is a recast Georgie.

Juliet Donenfeld is stepping into the role temporarily replacing Lily Fisher. As viewers know, Georgie is the young daughter of Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) named after Maxie’s sister, Georgie who passed away.

According to Soap Opera News, Fisher will be back soon in the part.

As for Donenfeld’s credits, she has appeared as JJ in the Netflix’s WWE series The Big Show Show,  Better Call Saul, Good Girls, Station 19, and Sydney to the Max to name but a few.

In addition, Juliet became the youngest nominee for an Annie Award, gaining recognition for voicing the character of Sally Squirrel in the Animated TV/Broadcast Production of Pete the Cat.

Watch today’s GH teaser below, and let us know your thoughts about Juliet as a recast Georgie via the comment section below.

“Daytime television invites viewers into the private lives of characters, often bringing important issues like cancer screenings into living rooms and around water coolers. Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time,” said Daytime Stands Up host Alan Locher. “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center,” added co-host Michael Fairman. “Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”

SU2C Co-Founder Sue Schwartz, SU2C President and CEO Julian Adams, Ph.D., and SU2C Health Equity Committee Member Elizabeth Jaffee, M.D., will also participate to speak to the importance of early detection, exciting scientific breakthroughs, and the ongoing work yet to be done to make screenings and treatment equitable for all.

“This year, an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer, presenting an opportunity for the public to stand with us and rise to the occasion,” said Adams. “We’re thankful to Alan Locher, Michael Fairman and our friends from the daytime television community, who will raise critical funding to honor those we’ve lost – and to propel new scientific breakthroughs for current and future patients. Everyone has a story, and we’re grateful to all of you for sharing yours.”

For over 15 years, SU2C has leveraged its relationship with the entertainment community – which includes more than 1,100 celebrity ambassadors – to generate public donations, increase awareness and fund cutting-edge cancer research. SU2C research has contributed to the development of more than 10 scientific breakthroughs that have significantly impacted the field and provided new treatment options for breast, colorectal, lung, melanoma, pancreatic, pediatric and prostate cancers.
