ABC Buys New Family Drama BLACK HEART From Prospect Park!

By Michael Fairman

Published

on

We are sure All My Children and One Life to Live fans may have something to say about this.  In an interesting move, ABC in a competitive situation where two networks were interested, purchased the dramatic drama, Black Heart from none other than Prospect Park and Kelly Masterson.

In news out of Deadline.com, Prospect Park’s CEO Jeff Kwatinetz and TV partner Josh Barry will executive produce the new project with playwright and screenwriter Kelly Masterson, who created Black Heart.  This project reunites Barry with ABC and ABC Studios where he was an executive for 10 years before joining Prospect Park.

The story of Black Heart is said to be about: “An unlikely ascension of the second son to the throne of a multi-billion dollar, family-owned energy company. It centers on the first-born son, twisted and scarred by a fire decades ago, who uses intrigue, manipulation, blackmail and even murder to put his beloved younger brother in power.”

Prospect Park’s other primetime series have included: Royal Pains and Salem.

What do you think about the premise of Black Heart? Prospect Park and ABC and ABC Studios joint project? Share your thoughts below!

Sounds Soapy!

Awesome! Now buy back the rights to All My Children and One Life to Live and I will once again watch all the programming ABC offers. Until then I will continue to watch General Hospital only on the ABC network.

that is not right they should bring back all my children and one life to live this is wrong i thought prospect park is being sued cannot figure it out

Knock it off Denise..we all watch shows on all networks that have upset us and you ain’t just watching one..and even if that’s true..you still a nielsen rating for ABC..people that say stuff like..i’m dropping them altogether i’m so mad..give me a break..you like to be entertained..they know it..and will always pique your interest. And by the by..does no one realize those shows are long done and gone and never will return. And if they do they’d have to be a whole new show just the same name with no one you knew before..and THAT would make you angry..MOVE ON GIRL…move on.

Sorry you feel so defeated davlestev 1. I am loyal to my soaps and the actors of those soaps. I was at one time loyal to ABC. I now get my entertainment elsewhere. Have a great day!

I only watch GH as well. On hulu plus no Disney/Abc affiliated stations either since abc cancelled AMC and OLTL. And I won’t

Yeah Denise great that you are sticking to your guns as am I. Other shows have come and gone but other networks have not been as disrespectful of their viewers and lie before they cancel not one but two programs including OLTL that was their top rated soap.

If i stopped watching a network because of a cancelled soap or a different program, id have nuttin to watch…all three major networks cancelled soaps i had enjoyed!!!

I agree with Ann and Denise – I think it’s absolutely DISGRACEFUL how All My Children and One Life to Live got tangled in a web of deceit and greed between ABC-TV and Prospect Park that rivaled any soap opera storyline.
The LEAST that they could do is bring back a combination of the two shows in some kind of format – call it Pine Valley, Call it Landview, call it whatever but they owe it to the Fans to bring back some kind of inception.

I think this says all along . It was a partneship to kill One Life To Live. Fans were outraged that OLTL was murdered in its prime then along comes prospect park to slowly kill it to make the fans lose interest. To hell with abc and their dummy company

There was no partnership to just tank a decades old show. When people had the chance to add themselves as a ratings they got angry over the direction of the show with loud complaints but even ABC as well as NBC knew not to just toss all Daytime Drama to the winds.. At least something was left and you can be vocal but just make sure you watch. There was no secret underhand dirty dealings..ABC and other networks just wanted something that brought in more viewers after millions just took soaps for granted and defected at will..you included. You can say not you..but you did.

Dea4 Prospect Park, I want you to bring back my or our OLTL immediately on the air. I am so sick and tired of your DRAMA WITH abc just get over this squabble and put out soap back on the air. When i say soap that includes all my children too. In business to make money you have to spend money. Yes you have to pay actors so stop crying over it! Tou do have the very best actors out there. I hd been a loyal fan of OLTL for most of my entire life. I way most i was in might had missed a lil back when I was a small child but for the entire run of the show. Get it back on the air. ALL THREE SHOWS WERE A GREAT LINEUP TO LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON.

Sincerely, Joe

I totally agree Joe. There is no legitimate reason for OLTL and AMC not to be on the air right now.

There is a legitimate reason..most of those people are no longer available and the show would have to move forward so far with too much explanation and a whole new cast of characters

They could absolutely bring them (All my children have one life to live) back if they wanted to once the legal dust settles, whenever that is.
Yes, fans would have to accept new characters and some re-casts – so what? New characters on soaps come and go every 3 – 6 months and we are all accustomed to recasting.
They ought to bring back the characters as one combined soap – bring it back as an evening presentation if necessary, like SCANDAL – it’s not impossible. It would certainly be considerably better than some of the garbage shows that are out there now.

As long as they bring them back I miss them and if this happens Thank You so much!!!! If not we will still fight to get them back !!!!

I thought Prospect Park was suing ABC for the failure of their online versions of AMC and OLTL and ABC was suing Prospect Park for failing to pay licensing fees for the shows.

Anyhoo, the premise of the show sounds interesting but may be too dark for audiences. As always, its success or failure will all boil down to its time slot because when it comes to network TV quality writing is never a factor.

Everyone wants their version of Empire– look for a whole slew of family business dramas on all networks in the next couple of seasons. ABC brought it only to prevent it from going to another network– it doesn’t mean they will air it, they can keep it on the shelf if they want. But in the end everyone wants to make money and if it makes money for them they will deal with anyone, even someone suing them.

Good, I hope it’s good

They took all the good soaps off the air, anyway they do not listen to how the fans feel.

Whatever happened with the lawsuit over OLTL? I still miss AMC, both the ABC and PP versions, and I’m not interested in a new show if there’s a chance the other two could be brought back when the lawsuit ends.

Yes. The silence over the lawsuit is deafening. I do not trust the alphabet network or the mouse company.

Pretty sure BLACK HEART is intended for prime time. It’s confusing a lot of daytime fans because this website discusses mainly soaps. But, I think Prospect Park got burned with soaps & is sticking with nighttime series for now, like ROYAL PAINS & SALEM. The only way for them to have an income is for their shows to actually run. They can’t just sit around waiting to go to court on 2 shows that aren’t making them any money.

Who are the actors? Is there a a time slot?

I will not be watching your SOAP OPERA only GH and AMC & OLTL if they ever are brought back on. My BOYCOTTING of abc will continue 23/7. LET’S GO PEOPLE BOYCOTT abc/disney!!!!!!!! Joe

I have not watched anything from the alphabet network or the mouse company since OLTL went off the air.

I do not watch any ABC-TV shows for the same reason. I USED to watch, for many years, the abc “love in the afternoon” line up but since they totally screwed that up – the executives at abc-tv can go jump in a lake.
BRING BACK All My Children and One Life to Live!

ABC should only buy if General Hospital gets Todd and Starr back!

Finally, the voice of reason!!!

Let’s not forget John.

Oh, that would be a GREAT way to begin the tenure of the new head writers. *sarcasm* If you think fans were tough on RC, flipping the actors back to 3 characters who basically disappeared would probably kill GH.

If anything kills General Hospital, it will be all the constant negativity.

This is an insult to generations of soap fans! I have boycott ABC/D and all sponsors ever since the fateful day you murdered two fantastic shows (OLTL / AMC) spanning a life of over 8o years put together! You treated the cast and crew terribly! You sabotaged PP’s version of OLTL by killing off Cole & Hope on GH, knowing this would harm their writings. I don’t care who would pick up our beloved Llanview / Pine Valley families, but I’d worship that channel! Until you do right by the fans, we will continue to see ABC as it is (Another Bad Channel). If you can do this latest move with PP, why not buy back OLTL??? Are you people really that insane to cancel your longest running shows for The Spew and that other garbage? Nothing you ever do would bring me back to your channel UNLESS you reinstate One Life To Live! You couild merge it with All My Children if need by, but make it work! You want your one time true loyal fan base back? Give us a reason to come back!

Well said.

This brings me back to the thought that the suspicion that this whole move was a sham, and Prospect Park never intended to successfully promote OLTL and AMC on-line. it was to take the heat off ABC! Yes, a conspiracy theory.

Sounds like another show to boycott. If prospect Park wants to create something , why not create a way to give us our soaps as promised. And ABC really you take off 2 beloved soaps, sell the rights to this group, sue this group, now you are in bed with them! That is why I ignore all ABC programming.

That’s a very unique premise to a show. It sounds very interesting and I’d be curious to learn more about it once there’s a pilot episode. As for the ABC/PP connection, business is business. One pending lawsuit shouldn’t prevent the two from making a new deal. I wish the two sides would settle the lawsuit so that there’s some resolution to all the issues. IMO ABC owes PP some money, and PP has alot of outstanding debt to pay off. At this point I think most of us have accepted that AMC and OLTL are over, and most of the actors have moved on to other jobs. Let PP and ABC resolve the lawsuit and move on, too.

I wish oltl was coming back

My question is if there in a fight for oltl and AMC still for the rights and money …..why r they working together again on a new project? What ever happend to the court hearing they were suppose to have in may?

Making it a daytime drama would be nice !!??

Maybe this is some sort of side deal ABC is cutting to put an end to the lawsuit, which Prospect Park probably knows is going nowhere.

Excuse me, but WTF???!!!!

I thought that genius Brian Fronz said the era of soaps is over. How come ABC bought a soap from PP? Because it’s a “primetime drama”? PP is made up of former ABC/D people and the only reason they so-called revived AMC & OLTL was to appease the outraged fans. Guess what, I’m still pissed at ABC/D and will still only watch GH on ABC! BRING BACK AMC & OLTL!!!

I want my OLTL back. Period.

So do I. I am lost without our beloved OLTL. I also really enjoyed the online AMC and would love to have it back also.

This sounds really suspicious to me. Why start a new soap when there are tons of fans who want their old soaps back. It is going to be on before or after GH?

Good for Prospect Park!!!
They went to hell and back trying to do the impossible; bringing TV production to the internet..
They had a huge Union battles, a studio battle, lost millions, declared bankruptcy, and PP is still in the courts with the lawsuit, all over trying to bring 2 soaps to the internet; impossible..
To this day nobody has succeeded to bring TV production to the internet..

I love love ”Salem” !! a big hit… Way to go PP !!

Their new project ”Black Heart” sounds good… If it is anything like Salem, it will be big..

OLTL and AMC are dead and gone..
They are in the soap opera graveyard with all the other dead soaps..
They will never return..
C’mon stop being grown up cry babies over it..
it is what it is- they are dead and gone.. They will not rise again.

(probably resting in peace next to the Guiding Light under the big oak tree)

Prospect Park is hardly the only production company to be producing shows for the internet. Netflix & Amazon have been producing original shows for the internet for a while, some of which just received Emmy nominations. HOUSE OF CARDS, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, THE UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT, TRANSPARENT, DAREDEVIL, etc. DirectTV took over the Glenn Close series, DAMAGES for a season, like Yahoo just did for COMMUNITY. There are a lot of original series being produced now for streaming that are not seen on broadcast, cable or pay tv channels.

I forgot to mention Hulu, which is partially owned by NBC, ABC & Warner Bros, that also creates many original series streaming. Hulu will be producing season 4 of THE MINDY PROJECT because it was cancelled by FOX this year.

You know su0000..sometimes people just say the goofiest things.. Move on.. Watch old shows and clips but just get over it already

ALL MY CHILDREN and One Life to Live to not HAVE to be “dead and gone” – once the legal dust clears these show could resurface in a whole new inception if the genius executives would listen to the fans. So, SU0000 while I respect your opinion I do not share it at all –
while I was not crazy about the “on-line versions” of the two most classic soaps, I think they were slowly finding their footing, I just don’t think Prospect Park had any real clue as to what they were getting into. ABC-TV should have NEVER let the shows “just go” without experimenting with shortened versions or a combination of both shows.

Kind of tired of all the Dynasty rip offs of the billionaire sect. To be honest the billionaires have done much harm to the middle class and its time to speak out rather than perpetuate

How can you post this and make NO reference to the fact that these two companies are suing each other over All My Children and One Life To Live? Diehard fans of these iconic daytime dramas would love to know how they kissed and made up for this deal but have left our shows in limbo.

Media companies sue each other all the time over a project, then work together on other projects because they aren’t individuals. It’s business. It doesn’t cause the bitter feelings that would happen if your neighbor sued you because quite often, the legal departments doing the suing aren’t the ones making entertainment decisions for the company. Different departments. The head of ABC programming doesn’t get involving in deciding to sue. Likewise, the creative heads at Prospect Park deciding which projects to make/cast/produce aren’t deciding to sue ABC. That’s all handled on a different level. Meanwhile, time moves on & there are time slots that need to be filled & shows that need to be made for these companies to make money.

Maybe it’s in the wings waiting for the inevitable sinking of GH. It sounds totally soapy.

It makes me furious that ABC and PP can work out a “joint venture” for this show and this project, but they cannot for the love of anybody come to some kind of resolution with “One Life to Live” so “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” can return to all us loyal followers who followed and enjoyed both shows with ABC and Prospect Park.

Jesus Christ!

What is obviously personal for you is just business for an entertainment company. PP works w/ABC because they have to. ABC Entertainment is just one part of the largest entertainment company in the WORLD – Disney. Since PP just declared bankruptcy last year, they really don’t have the luxury of not selling their series to an extremely successful company that’s willing to buy it if they have any hope of emerging from bankruptcy.

I continue to boycott ABC and will until I die. Bring back AMC! It will fail because ABC and PP are doing it!

OLTL fans are right there with you KateA. As far as I’m concerned, both the alphabet network and the mouse company can go out of business.

This site feels bloated…too many newbies…lol

It sounds like a Dallas-type nighttime soap. I will not watch this if and when it shows up on television or the internet, but I hope PP got a good deal, and that they put the money to good use. I want the court battle to be settled and I want One Life to Live and All My Children to return.

My immediate thought: WTH?? What happened to the lawsuit? WHy would ABC buy something from the same people they’re suing? I just don’t understand.

That being said, the premise does sound interesting.

The lawsuit is none of our business, actually..
Most likely they have been negotiating and settling, those things are usually not public information..
Neither PP nor ABC is going to discuss or inform the public of their business..

I can see how the Black Heart series would go to ABC..
( it was jointly created/produced by PP and Barry/PP, and he/Barry was an ABC Executive for 10 years before joining Prospect Park.
It is all about business and money, there are no emotions, just profit.

OLTL and AMC were killed by ABC and PP tried to resurrect them. It’s done and over.

I’m looking forward to seeing Black Heart, sounds good 🙂

OMG…MichaelFairman…WHY DON’T THEY GET IT????

Why on earth are ABC dealing with PP who are suing them?

buy back One Life To Live and re-hire Ron C and get things back in proper order !

SOUNDS TOTALLY STUPID!!!!!

Salem is a good show, Royal Pains wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m in if the cast appeals to me. Can’t be any worse than what’s passing as great TV now.

I have zero interest in what ABC has purchased.
Since they axed AMC ( which I watched from day 1 in January of 1970) I have not, nor will I ever watch anything on that channel.

I was fan of both AMC & OFTL. I kept holding my breath every day that my GH won’t bite the dust. Has for this new show I never heard of it . I still do under stand why the cancelled both soaps. Since soaps have been around for a long time and have kept the network in business for years. I do not if I really care about this so called drama nor will I watch it.!!!

PROSPECT PARK did NOT even have the decency to offer the many fans of both AMC and OLTL some kind of passable “explanation” as to what happened with the shows, not even a vague publicity statement was issued. They totally and completely left fans high and dry,(& actors as well) and even though some fans say “well, they tried to bring the shows back” I personally never cared for their seemingly carefree attitude, actually once stating “If the fans will stay out of our way we will see where this goes” when it was clear from the start they were having problems with keeping the shows afloat.

so confused thought they were bankrupt……all i can say is bring back OLTL and AMC

This week began and as reported with a spotlight article on Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos and how their production entity, Milojo, has been teeing up the All My Children reboot with Lifetime.

The L.A. Times featured the married couple, co-hosts of Live with Kelly and Mark, and former All My Children cast members (where they met and fell in love) about their plans to bring two All My Children movies to Lifetime and how they are working with the Agnes Nixon estate to make it come to fruition,

On Wednesday, it was revealed by Daytime Confidential, that All My Children reboot producer, Andrew Stearn handpicked none other than Ron Carlivati (ex-head writer, One Life to Live, General Hospital and Days of our Lives) and Jamey Giddens (who is the new co-head writer of The Young and the Restless, following his tenures on the writing teams of Beyond the Gates and Days of Our Lives), as the two scribes who will bring the first of two of Kelly and Mark’s All My Children movies to the page.

RON CARLIVATI AND JAMEY GIDDENS CONFIRM THEIR BOARDING THE ALL MY CHILDREN MOVIE PROJECT

The second installment is said to be written by primetime writer Leo Richardson whose credits include: Star, Katy Keene and more recently the Penn Badgley (ex-Phillip Chancellor IV, The Young and the Restless) starring series, You.

Richardson also wrote for three years on the U.K.’s long-running soap, EastEnders. All My Children revival fans will recall Richardson’s name was attached as the writer for the first incarnation of the All My Children movies, entitled, Pine Valley.

Ron Carlivati took to X and confirmed he is indeed boarding the All My Children movie project. Carlivati shared, “So excited to share this news! Thanks to Andrew Stearn, Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos, Albert Bianchini and the Agnes Nixon estate for entrusting Jamey Giddens and me with the first of two planned All My Children movies for Lifetime! Stay tuned!”

Jamey Giddens confirmed DC’s announcement by taking to his account on X and expressing, “I’ve been booked and busy in 2026. Thanks to Andrew Stearn, the Agnes Nixon estate, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos for entrusting Ron Carlivati, and me with the first of two planned All My Children movies for Lifetime!”

Some fans seemed to question how Giddens could be writing for the first All My Children movie at Lifetime, when he is the new co-head writer at The Young and the Restless with Dan O’Connor. Jamey answered that head on via X and explained, “We turned in our All My Children script months ago. My sole focus as of this past Monday, is Genoa City, Wisconsin! #YR”

ERICA KANE, MARIA SANTOS AND HAYLEY AND MATEO SANTOS TO APPEAR IN THE ALL MY CHILDREN MOVIE REVIVAL?

In the planned stories, Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane and Eva LaRue’s Maria Santos will be two characters whose lives we will get to see for the first time since the series was canceled by ABC back in 2011 after 41 years on the air. As well, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos confirmed they will make brief appearances on-screen; one could assume as Hayley and Mateo Santos.

“It’d be wonderful to give the fans something that they’ve been yearning for so many years,” shared Mark Consuelos to the LA Times. “All My Children gave me my family. I met my wife there. It gave me my start in the business. It gave us so much. It would be a dream to be able to give back.”

So, what do you think of Ron Carlivati and Jamey Giddens getting nod to write the All My Children movie #1 script and Leo Richardson #2? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

‘All My Children’ Revival Updates: Lifetime EVP Speaks on Why Proposed Movies are Great Fit, Mark Consuelos Wants To ‘Give Back’ to Fans

The All My Children revival via movies at Lifetime is still in the works from former series stars and marrieds, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, through their production company, Milojo.

The co-hosts of Live with Kelly and Mark were featured this week in a Los Angeles Times article which detailed their efforts to bring some of the citizens of Pine Valley back to your screens.

As previously reported, and reaffirmed by the L.A. Times, the All My Children movies will be set in the present day and focus on what beloved characters such as Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) and Maria Santos Gray (Eva LaRue) are doing now. In addition, Kelly Ripa confirmed that she and Mark Consuelos will also appear on screen briefly most likely appearing in their signature soap roles as Hayley and Mateo Santos.

ALL MY CHILDREN MOVIES BRING NOSTALGIA THAT CAN BE MADE TO FEEL NEW AGAIN

Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive vice president and head of programming for A&E, Lifetime, and Lifetime Movie Network said of the All My Children reboot, “Lifetime is always interested in shows that kind of tap into a powerful nostalgia that can be made fresh for today’s audience. There’s a whole generation of women that have missed these stories and these characters.”

As for working with Kelly and Mark on the Lifetime movie versions of the soap, “They’re exactly the kind of partners you want at a brand,” expressed Bryant. “They’re trusted voices because every day they’re talking to their audience, which, a lot of times, is our audience. They bring a real credibility and have an authentic point of view. You meet Kelly and Mark and kind of what you see is what you get, and I think they bring that same authenticity to their development standards.”

Albert Bianchini, executive producer for Milojo, says he knows All My Children is so wildly popular with the fans of daytime. That was punctuated when seeing it in person, and how the energy was off the charts back in January of 2025 when Kelly participated along with Susan Lucci, former head writer, Lorraine Broderick and casting director, Judy Blye Wilson in a conversation with Andy Cohen at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.

“I’ve never seen a crowd like that in my life. People were lined up around the block, recalled the Bianchini.  “Everyone wanted to know, ‘When is (All My Children) coming back? We want more.’  We got to see that in real life and Kelly got to feel it in real life, and it made so much sense. I just know that the minute it gets out in the world, people will want more and more and more. There’s just a love there.”

Kelly Ripa added that they are, “working closely with Bob and Sarah Nixon, who are also serving as producers.” She recalled, “She (Agnes Nixon) was so far ahead of her time. She covered topics that weren’t being covered. It was extraordinary the audiences that the show drew, and she served them real stories that were affecting Americans across the country but weren’t necessarily being represented anywhere.”

“It’d be wonderful to give the fans something that they’ve been yearning for so many years,” shared Mark Consuelos. “All My Children gave me my family. I met my wife there. It gave me my start in the business. It gave us so much. It would be a dream to be able to give back.”

THE CANCELLATION AND STOPS AND STARTS OF ALL MY CHILDREN REBOOTS

All My Children aired on ABC from 1970 to 2011. It got a second chance at life when Prospect Park resurrected the show and brought it to The OnLine Network and Hulu for one season in 2013.

Recently, the series made a return through the estate of Agnes Nixon and is streaming internationally on BEONDTV and through their partnership with PlutoTV Canada with episodes starting in 1995. Fans hope original episodes will some day soon be available in the U.S. as well, but that could prove more difficult since ABC owns the rights to the episodes stateside.

Now 13 years later, while there is no word yet on a definitive production start date to the two movies at Lifetime, all the people involved seemed determined to make it come to life.

So, what do you think of the executive vice-president of Lifetime and LMN being enthusiastic about Kelly and Mark’s All My Children movie revivals? Are you wanting to see this come to fruition? Kelly and Mark seem to have made this a very high priority.  Do you hope that by 2027 we might be able to get this to the finish the line and into production? Weigh-in via the comment section.
