GH's Jackie Zeman Interview: Bobbie and Luke Say "Arrivederci", Her Final Scenes With Tony Geary, Writing Regime Change!

43
Ive been waiting for his exit for a very long time…i did a happy dance when i heard…i have to admit i liked him in the begining but in these last few months i wanted him to leave…now its true…he is leaving so now i know there is a God…by the way im talking about Ron Carlivati, not Tony Geary…lol
I for JIMH say Tony Geary good luck and Luke Spencer for all intents and purposes R.I.P. Time to move forward. As for the state of what lies ahead..for a writer it depends on the characters you like..good actors or not..and who you want to tell story for. Gushing Alexis needs a new direction..i’d like to see Molly in a good story..on the fence with J.T. a recast is in order..Monica needs to return..Obrecht can be campy because that is her character but the legion of doom needs to stay gone..Nina’s craziness needs to be truly explained or deepened more… Read more »
I for one say..lol..i’m not saying anything for you Jimh..typo..lol
Oh yes bring back Dianne and backtrack that whole Milo Epiphany nonsense that just made viewers squirm every time they aired..
I agree with some youve said, especially about Dianne…Alexis needs to take a long cold shower and without Julian…lol…Alexis and Kevin(had tptb kept him) wouldve made an interesting couple…my problem is GH is way too campy and the only way RC can drive a plot is to bring characters back from the dead—he went way overboard…..Dark Shadows was a great horror gothic soap that got way too campy and lost viewers…in that shows final months the storyline became more character driven and far less campy…the ratings went back up but it was too late and the show was cancelled…GH needs… Read more »
You are a teaser, Jimh. Lol.
You know me well…lol
Like Jackie said, it will be interesting to see the changes with women writing for the show. I hope they are more character driven and less about shocking people every week with no middle or end.
I really hope the new writers find a way to keep Bobby involved in story… and not just popping in 1 or 2 episodes a month to chat w/ Carly or give Lucas some sort of motherly grief. I mean, hello! She never has scenes w/ Morgan and rarely w/ Michael. Bring back Roy DeLucca for a triangle w/ Bobby, Scotty, & Roy. Something! Without Alan, Edward, very little Monica, and now Luke… we need Bobby.
Agreed and I think it is really important that Bobbie be a primary person Luke said goodbye to. Luke and Bobbie were a great brother and sister team. Loved their scenes in the disco and then hanging around Aunt Ruby’s etc. It would have been a crime not to put her front and center. What a gracious and wonderful person Jackie is. She needs to be used more on General Hospital and not just as Carly’s mom. A great idea might be to have Valerie and Bobbie live togther and built a strong relationship. Lulu is a terrible “friend” for… Read more »
Yeah, ….I watched past episodes with Bobbi……so beautiful. Everyone was like a big, happy family….in the brownstone; enjoying each other’s company….discussing their day, problems etc. I bet most of you are whispering; “the good old days”, with a sigh. It must have been halcyon days, indeed. Sigh!
They were the “Good Old Days” and not just because of Luke’s departure. I dont know if you noticed but in those clips of him, GH used to go out on location during sweeps all the time. Also, the sets may have been cheesy but they were huge. Now, they have everyone shacked up in the Metro Court. I know the soaps are dying and the networks dont want to spend money on them but with technology a lot of things can be done with a “Green Scree.” Seems like no one cares anymore. Either way, I hope they write… Read more »
@Timmm. It is sad and unfortunate to think that soaps will, in all probability, become a thing of the past…..reality shows are stealing the spotlight. Yuck!!!! Everyone is cashing in….it seems that we have become such a lazy nation that we need not have our minds stimulated with intelligent viewing. The Housewives, The Kardashians, the Bachelor/Bachelorette, The Chew….etc. so much stupidity with so much fodder….reality? Not really. This is the future awaiting my children? If only this amount of money, time and effort were spent/dedicated on education, children’s brains would not lay dormant. It is no wonder Academia in America… Read more »
She could be a house mother in a brothel and pimp out Denise and Morgan!
LOVE IT! LOL
Bittersweet, indeed. Best wishes to them both.
These scenes with Bobbie and Luke were beautiful, and I’m so glad they included a flashback. I’m disappointed there haven’t been more flashbacks, especially when we have the original actors in a scene together, like in his scenes with Jonathan Jackson. How poignant it would have been to see 11-yr-old Lucky & his dad. I really don’t understand why GH hasn’t made good use of flashbacks, when they are the easiest way to stir up our emotions. A picture says a thousand words and all that.
I thought the same thing. They could have stretched Lucky’s return to one or two more episodes by inserting flashbacks. I dont get it?
God I love them, The show has changed so much… Tony will always be in my heart and will be deeply missed.
Perhaps, Tony will be back; even for a visit. “Arrivederci” literally means, “we will see each other again”. One never knows….
On today’s show he tell’s Sonny he’ll be gone forever 🙁
@tskyent.
Yeah, well, so many characters have left for dead, no less. And, then? Voila’. Poof. There they are again!
Thanks for the lovely memories. The Luke and Bobbie relationship will be sorely missed.
Jackie; The blocking was right, the direction was great, the writing was great and everybody was on their game, and it was kind of bittersweet. //// JACKIE: (the 25th) I thought the writers did a great job on that. Personally, I am one of those sentimental marshmallow people that has a big heart that likes to see the family stuff. I like character driven storylines. That is what emotionally works for me about soap operas, so I loved it! I thought it was beautifully written, and beautifully executed. That was soap opera storytelling at its finest. //// JACKIE: I wanted… Read more »
oops
I did not mean to imply that Fluke story was not good, it was; at first..
Ron had everybody guessing who and what with the Fluke story..
The problem was Tony being gone for 6 months and Ron trying to hold onto the story and keep it alive ..
Ron should have shelved the Fluke story when Tony was out..
But again.. at the beginning it was a good story, we all had theories lol ..
(and it Tony an emmy )
I enjoyed Ron’s writing. For those of you not familiar with the new regime, just wait. I watched their boring stories on Y&R as well as Jean’s when she wrote for ATWT up to its cancellation. I tuned into GH everyday mostly due to the talented acting and good stories.
This is a great interview with Jackie. She was very gracious to my Mom when she approached her at a restaurant years ago.
Beautiful scene with so much left unsaid, but silently present, between Jackie Z. and Tony G. And wonderful interview. I do indeed hope we will have Jackie Z. around on GH for a very long time as Barbara Jean Spencer.
They were lovely.
I find it odd that she was so complimentary about the writing after Tomy shredded “the writer”. I happen to agree with her! I love Tony Geary as an actor but don’t think much of him as a human being after his cheap shots at Ron.
Tony gave Ron ten weeks to wrap up his story. Not a day more. I gave up on Luke a long time ago. And I have no respect for Tony after reading his scathing article with Michael Logan. Tony should have left years ago if he felt like he did.
Tony did not shred Ron, he said the writer there are other writers that writes Tony’s scripts.. Ron does not every word for everyone. Ron does not write every script that is what all the writers are for, script writing for the characters lol 🙂 Ron was not mentioned, just ‘writer.. Tony was talking mainly about directing/telling him what to do and how to act/do it, he doesn’t like that.. He thinks actors should be creative, as him, and do that on their own, it seems lol Ron is a writer and not on stage directing, he is mainly in… Read more »
I think they were coming from a different place. She’s had no screen time for years, whereas he’s had a great contract and screen time. I would be grateful, too, if I were in her position. I’ve been very open-minded where RC is concerned, yet I don’t think TG’s words were cheap shots. When you’ve portrayed a character for 37 years, over half of your life, you own that character. RC was inconsistent with Luke, particulary with the Fluke story. It was clear that Fluke was not actually Luke, and then RC changed direction. That would frustrate me as an… Read more »
I think she would be complimentary because she still works there. Tony, on the other hand, is done and can express his feelings freely. I give Ron credit for saving GH. But something happened in the past several months and his writing was terrible. After all, Ron is out and Tony is still standing.
I always loved feisty redheaded Bobbie!
I hope the new writers continue to write for “Bobbie” If they don’t they will lose a viewer here. I was so happy when Ron C. wrote her back in.
Agreed!!!!!
I believe the new team will let her go..
She is not used much outside of being with Tony and he is gone..
They will be letting people go / cutting the fat as is said..
They very well may create their own new characters..
In with the new out with the old, perhaps..
Jackie Zeman is a cool lady with charisma, good at drama, with a subtle comedic bent, she sometimes reminded me of Marlo Thomas…I’m glad she will remain on the show and wish her more airtime.
Jackie looks great and she has a purpose on GH like Melody does on Y&R. They write stories for Melody all the time. I hope the new writers see this or remember doing this before and refocus on some of the mature vets. Bobbie, Monica, Mac, Scott. Scott is such a character. Him and Franco are great together. Have those two move in. Have Bobbie and Scott marry and have Franco move in with them!. Have Bobbie reopen the brownstone and have Franco and Nina live there along with some of the younger kids. Have Scott walking around in a… Read more »
I felt these scenes between jackie and Tony were more memorable than his final episode today. I hope the new writers see the importance of keeping the character of Bobbi and Jacklyn zeman around. She has so much history to this show. Please keep her gh.
Luke and Bobbie have always been my favorite brother and sister in daytime. I will sorely miss them.
That being said, this was hands down the worst exit storyline for a 37 year iconic character. No flashbacks. No montages. Luke passing the torch to Sonny (ugh!). No goodbye to Laura.
Shameful on every level.
this was such a moving article… I have always loved Jackie zeman, and for ONCE GH got it right and gave them a beautiful episode of scenes. I have been watching them over and over the past 24 hours. I lost track of GH this summer and missed when it aired, but it was great to hear about her experience as actress and character. How would you differentiate? I mean, they may be fictional characters, but as audience we feel that we know them AND the actors that portray them… I loved how she described Bobbie as “earth mother…wanting to… Read more »
