GH's Jackie Zeman Interview: Bobbie and Luke Say "Arrivederci", Her Final Scenes With Tony Geary, Writing Regime Change!

How do you say goodbye?  That was the situation Bobbie Spencer (Jackie Zeman) was in on Friday’s episode of General Hospital when her big brother Luke (Tony Geary) gave her the news that he was going to leave Port Charles immediately to find himself, after coming to terms with his childhood past.  And that was also mirroring the real-life situation for Jackie Zeman and Tony Geary, who shared their final scenes together, since Geary has retired from the series to go live in Amsterdam and work overseas.  It was an emotional TV moment that had many a viewers weeping from coast to coast.  For it was Luke, always protecting his younger sister Bobbie that was a cornerstone of the Spencer family relationships.  While over the years stories shifted away from Luke and Bobbie scheming together, and they each became involved with other characters, the love that these two have for each other has been undying and unwavering. When Bobbie and Luke came back together on-screen, you always felt the brother/sister bond.

On-Air On-Soaps spoke to Jackie Zeman to get her thoughts on what went on behind-the-scenes as she filmed her final moments and said farewell to Bobbie and Luke, and for now to her good friend, longtime scene partner and eight-time Daytime Emmy winner Tony Geary.  Zeman, who has so much history with GH, shared many stories and sentiments about her time with her on-screen big brother.   Jackie also weighs-in on the seismic shift to come in Port Charles, as not only will the show be without the iconic Luke Spencer on the canvas, but the new head writing regime that is set to take over the lives of the characters and storylines on the long running ABC soap opera.  In a heartfelt, enlightening, and must-read interview, here’s what Jackie had to say about: moving on, new beginnings, and those hankie-filled soap opera “arrivedercis”!

Friday’s episode with Luke and Bobbie saying their goodbyes, I am sure meant so much to long time fans of General Hospital.  It was so incredibly touching, and I am sure also for anyone who has a big brother/little sister relationship in their lives, or vice versa, it meant even more!

JACKIE:  I was very pleased when I read the scripts, because you could tell that they just took time with them.  They were so beautifully written.  They gave it a throughline throughout the show that it gave substance that we spent enough time together as brother and sister, and that it wasn’t a two-minute scene shoved in and done, and moving on.  There was some depth and sentimentality put into it, because when you stop to think about saying goodbye to someone in real life that you are so attached to, and so emotionally committed to, and has given such allegiance to with your heart, soul and body to for so many years, that deserves a few minutes of goodbye.  I was glad they gave that to us on the show, and that they didn’t cut any of it before it made it to air.  I can say; that everything we shot they put on the air, which is really nice.

GH included a flashback that gave the moment even more of an emotional impact.  When you watched back your final scenes, did you get choked-up, like so many of the viewers did?

Courtesy/ABC

JACKIE:  Normally. I don’t watch the air shows.  However, Kin Shriner (Scott) did watch the episode, and we were texting back and forth that day, and also with Lynn Herring (Lucy).  Kin texted: “Watch today’s air show!  Your scenes were really good with Tony Geary.”  So I did push record on my TV and totally forgot about it, but I did go back and look at it.  It was emotional for me when I watched them.  These scenes with Luke and Bobbie resonated, and it made it very real to me.  You know, the sub-conscious doesn’t differentiate when you are an actor to what you are doing in real life, or what you are doing in a scene.  It’s all real in your heart, spirit, and soul.

When you realized looking at this man, Tony Geary, who you have spent decades with on the show, that your time together was for all intent and purposes done together on GH, what went through your mind?

Courtesy/ABC

JACKIE:  Tony was on for 37, and I have been on 38 years, and that is a lot of history and people always use the word “crossover”.  There is a heck of a lot of crossover when you are breathing someone’s air, and emotionally connected in those kinds of scenes.  Tony Geary is like the big brother to me that I have always wanted, but never had.  Tony would come to see my kids, Cassidy and Lacey, and went to their birthday parties. We all went to Amsterdam 15 years ago to visit Tony when he first got his really nice place there. Tony was so fabulous, and he welcomed Cassidy and Lacey.  We have memories not only on-set as Bobbie and Luke, but as Tony and Jackie, as well.  They are all enmeshed together.  It’s the same heart space.

During the last scene, Bobbie needed to be OK with Luke leaving Port Charles.  Luke related that everyone was in a good place in the family, so now was the perfect time to make his exit.  For Bobbie, that meant life without Luke in her immediate orbit.  How was it for you immediately after you finished your final scenes with Tony?

Courtesy/ABC

JACKIE:   It was the last scene of the night – and it was like 10:30PM when we shot those and the crew was starving – and so they had a pizza break.  We had already shot our first two scenes together, and that was like at 8:30PM.  They were pushing a meal penalty, and the director came over and said, “OK. We’re going to break for pizza.  Do you guys want to grab a piece of pizza. … or do you want to continue blocking your scenes?”  We wanted to continue blocking, because you can’t go eat a piece of pizza on a 15 minute meal break – get the pizza out of your teeth, go the bathroom, brush your teeth and then get right back into those emotional scenes.  It’s impossible!  So, we said we will just push through, and those kinds of scenes you get them in the first take, because they are so emotional.  The blocking was right, the direction was great, the writing was great and everybody was on their game, and it was kind of bittersweet.   I just remember thinking, “This is it. We’re done.”  But, it wasn’t a sad feeling, but more bittersweet where you want to hang on by your fingernails, because of what you are used to, and what you are comfortable with.  It’s the same feeling when your kids go off to college and they are going to leave, or the first time your kid drives after they get their drivers license and you see them driving off to wherever they are going that night. Your heart is like: “Oh, my God.  I am just stepping into a new chapter, and I am not sure I am ready to leave the old one.  I kind of like the old one.”  But life is about jumping off the cliff, and getting ready to fly. You can’t hang on the past.  You can’t hang on to what has been good.  You gotta put one foot in front of the other with your heart, and greet what ever the next chapter is.  So from that respect, I was happy for Tony.  He had a great run as Luke.  I have had a great run as Bobbie.  We both shared a lot of sentimental moments on-camera, as well as off-camera.  The friendship will never go away.  He has invited me to come to Amsterdam to stay in his house.  I will take him up on that offer … why would I not? (Laughs)  I love Amsterdam.  So, it’s all good.  It’s kind of exciting for what’s next for Tony personally in Amsterdam, and what’s next for GH for the story.

New incoming GH head writers; Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante will be writing stories for GH without the central character of Luke.  How do you see that changing the canvas of the show?

Courtesy/ABC

JACKIE:  It’s a big challenge for our new writers that are coming in to say, “OK, what do we do?”  There is this hole in the show where the Luke character was for so many years, and because so many of us have been attached to the Luke character.  I am sure they are thinking, “What do we do with them?”  But you never say, never.  Luke and Tony could always come back!

The 52nd Anniversary episode of General Hospital was so important, as now it sort of brings things full circle in order for Luke to leave the canvas, and it shed light on the horrific back-story of his childhood.   I remember how a little Bobbie was in the scenes of the recounting of the story, and how her siblings, Patricia and Luke, would protect her, just as big Luke always did.  What did you think of that episode?

Courtesy/ABC

JACKIE:  I thought the writers did a great job on that.  Personally, I am one of those sentimental marshmallow people that has a big heart that likes to see the family stuff.  I like character driven storylines.  That is what emotionally works for me about soap operas, so I loved it!  I thought it was beautifully written, and beautifully executed.  That was soap opera storytelling at its finest.  I thought Dee Wallace was amazing as Patricia Spencer.  The only thing that if I could change, and it’s not a criticism, is that I would have liked to have her on GH a little longer.  I wished they had stretched it out a little more.  I felt that when the character passed right there in front of our very eyes, I wished we had time to deal with the grief, shock, or the devastation of what that’s like to finally find a family member … and then lose a family member.

Luke came to Port Charles some 37 years ago to help his sister Bobbie get Scott Baldwin away from Laura … and all to herself!  What do you recall about meeting Tony for the first time, and upon hearing he would be coming to GH to play your on-screen brother?

Courtesy/ABC

JACKIE:  I was excited!  I was living in Beverly Hills, and I was driving to work down the hill of Coldwater Canyon to go to the studio, and a rock hits my windshield.  It sounded like a gunshot!  So there is a hole now in my corvette, which I had at the time.  I then had a flash before my eyes.  It’s a flashback of a past life in France, except that Tony is a woman and I am a man.  It’s 100 years ago, and we are getting on stage and in the scene he gets shot, but I am assuming it was an acting scene where he gets shot and not real.  It was the weirdest thing!  And just the night before, I had been in my bedroom in Beverly Hills and this Indian appears as I am meditating and said, “Tony”.  So I knew he meant Tony Geary.  I then remember going into work and thinking, “Oh, God.  I don’t do drugs, I don’t drink, and I never even smoked pot.  Tony is going to think I am off my rocker, but I have to tell him about this.”  I am such a boring person when it comes to things like that.  I am not a party girl at all.  So I go, “Tony, an Indian came into my room at night and said ‘Tony’ (Laughs).  And I don’t know why, but I know he meant you.” (Laughs)  Tony responds, “Oh, yeah.  I have a spiritual guide that’s Indian, so thank you, I will check in with him.”  I continue on and go, “I know this is going to sound really weird, and I swear I don’t take drugs, but I was driving this morning and a rock hit my car.  Come with me to the parking lot.”  So, I take Tony to the parking lot and I show him the front of my corvette with what looks like a bullet hole on it.  And I say, “So it sounded like a gunshot when it hit, and what I saw was you were a woman and I was a man.  We were on a stage in France and we were speaking French.” And Tony looks at me and goes: “Oh!  I was doing some past life regression last night with a therapist, which was about the life that I had in France many, many hundreds of years ago.”  So, he and I have had connections in different lifetimes!  And, probably this won’t be the last. (Laughs)

You obviously knew you had something very special and rare on daytime TV going on when Tony came to the show, and shortly there after, as GH’s popularity soared.

JACKIE:  I knew we had a connection.  I knew it was working, and I knew the relationship we had the writers loved.  Gloria Monty (former GH Executive Producer) gave us time to develop it.  Of course, we were young people back then carrying the storyline along with Kin Shriner and Genie Francis (Laura).  It was just one of those things, and you couldn’t repeat it, and it wasn’t formula.   It was the first time for a lot of things for all of us.  We were blessed.  We were all young, GH was on the upswing, and we were flying by the seat of our pants, but it was really, really fun!

So, do you think Bobbie will be OK without Luke … or, will she miss him terribly?

Courtesy/ABC

JACKIE:  I think she will be OK.  It was interesting the way they wrote those goodbye scenes.  I am glad they didn’t write it where she goes, “Oh, poor me. I can’t lose you.”  He goes, “Well, it’s the right time.” And Bobbie goes, “Well, it may be the right time for you, but it’s not for me.”  But then she thought for a second and was like, ‘Well, that’s not right.  He made a decision.  Back off!  It’s not about you, it’s about him.’  Bobbie (in her earth-mother, paternal, wanting to take care of everyone else) put herself last.  She has always been a giver not a taker.  I like that they kept her that way in these scenes.  Luke always took care of Bobbie, and Bobbie took care of Luke, but Luke always took care of Bobbie as a brother, and as a provider … but at his convenience … like if he was in town he was there, and if he was out of town, it was out of sight out of mind.  Bobbie was always OK with that.  That is why every man Bobbie has had a relationship with she had to compare him to Luke.  So when Luke mentioned, “You and Baldwin!  I don’t know what it is between the two of you.”  I wish Bobbie could have said, “You guys are so much alike!  Hello!”  I am sure neither one of the actors would want to admit that in their characters.  But c’mon, Luke and Scott both like to have their way. They’re both charming, they’re both handsome, they’re both adventure guys, and they both fly-by-the-seat of their pants, stand by their families, and are good dads.  They would not want to be called “romantic heroes”, but they are, and especially to women who find that attractive. They are so much alike. (Laughs)

There are big changes ahead.  What do you think of the head-writing change with Shelly Altman and Jean Passananate coming in to take the reins from Ron Carlivati?

Photo Credti: S Bergman

JACKIE:  It will be interesting now to see what the new writers will do, as these are two wonderful women.  I’m excited to see what they have in store.  It will be interesting to see how having two women write the show now, as opposed to having a man write the show, what kind of shifts there will be in regards to storylines and storytelling.  I am one who always thinks you’ve got to keep it fresh and new.  It will be a new adventure.

You tweeted to Ron Carlivati, shortly after news spread that he was being replaced in his role as head writer of the series, basically wishing him all the best, and as a nod and a thank you.

JACKIE:  I wanted to!  Ron brought Bobbie back onto the show, when all she was doing was reacting to what was going on with Luke previously.  I was under contract to ABC for decades, and then I wasn’t.  But I have Ron to thank for changing that, for bringing the character back.  I think he wrote some crazy, funny, off the wall storylines, and he kept the show on the air… hello?

Ive been waiting for his exit for a very long time…i did a happy dance when i heard…i have to admit i liked him in the begining but in these last few months i wanted him to leave…now its true…he is leaving so now i know there is a God…by the way im talking about Ron Carlivati, not Tony Geary…lol

I for JIMH say Tony Geary good luck and Luke Spencer for all intents and purposes R.I.P. Time to move forward. As for the state of what lies ahead..for a writer it depends on the characters you like..good actors or not..and who you want to tell story for. Gushing Alexis needs a new direction..i’d like to see Molly in a good story..on the fence with J.T. a recast is in order..Monica needs to return..Obrecht can be campy because that is her character but the legion of doom needs to stay gone..Nina’s craziness needs to be truly explained or deepened more psychologically from her past..Nina isn’t comedy it comes out of her..she’s broken and needy..Like having Rick on the canvas..enjoy Scotty..he’s just smarmy..love the Mayor and need to see Felicia go after her butt..Maxi is classic..like new Dylan..like Valerie but she needs more purpose to her roots..like Bobbi noticing she is more like her than Patricia..a classic Spencer..love you Marcy Ryland but you gotta go as LuLu..over Lucas and Brad unless an element of reality can be added..another Asian hardcore or celebrity type to throw a wrench in this mess..what if Brad’s ex from long ago is married has kids but wants out of the life expected of him and wants brad back..sorry the whole Felix character is a no go..willing to try the Michael Sabrina thing with a stronger Sabrina with a backbone..it would work and be a benefit to Michael..love Morgan..Bring back Dee and find a way to keep Ava and send Sonny and all the mob on an extended vacation..if not..then take time and have Sonny really reflect on what his activity has wrought in Port Charles..drugs especially..if he doesn’t have a conscious or writers think he can’t be given one he has to go..like Jake..like playboy Nick..like Hayden..one nasty cow..if Britt won’t come back do Hayden..If you wanna keep Felix..pair them up as besties..my best friend is the Britch 2.0..and i’m the new Brad..wanna see the hospital but not see it be made into E.R. or St. Eligius..this show has long since moved from the GH corridors to the towns people..Keep Roger Howarth..enjoy his Franco..lock Heather up for good..only visitations in psych ward if at all..Sam needs a person she can really play off and with or the actress needs to take a hike..no one has such little chemistry with such good actors..free up Patrick and throw him as a spoiler in the Michael Sabrina mix..KEEP THE KIDS..Jocelyn..Spencer..Emma..Cameron..classic soap kids growing up..keep Julian..ditch all things mob in a story that shows from street to home to mission what these mobsters have really done to their town..possibly from the vantage point of one their kids..Morgan getting heroin by way of friends?…that is my opinion..on Jimh post…thank you beaver..LOL

I for one say..lol..i’m not saying anything for you Jimh..typo..lol

Oh yes bring back Dianne and backtrack that whole Milo Epiphany nonsense that just made viewers squirm every time they aired..

I agree with some youve said, especially about Dianne…Alexis needs to take a long cold shower and without Julian…lol…Alexis and Kevin(had tptb kept him) wouldve made an interesting couple…my problem is GH is way too campy and the only way RC can drive a plot is to bring characters back from the dead—he went way overboard…..Dark Shadows was a great horror gothic soap that got way too campy and lost viewers…in that shows final months the storyline became more character driven and far less campy…the ratings went back up but it was too late and the show was cancelled…GH needs to get back to the epic romantic couples it was known for and more character driven plots…its ok for occasional camp for comic relief…fewer far out stories…back in the 80s GH had a freezing machine and Casey the Alien but those were more tolerable because the show was well written back then, and there were character driven plots, hospital drama, and a little more realism which made it easier to accept those other farfetched unbelievable but at least still far more entertaining than the plot driven mess and over-the-top GH of recent years with its too much mob violence that has often made GH too gloom and doom!!!

You are a teaser, Jimh. Lol.

You know me well…lol

Like Jackie said, it will be interesting to see the changes with women writing for the show. I hope they are more character driven and less about shocking people every week with no middle or end.

I really hope the new writers find a way to keep Bobby involved in story… and not just popping in 1 or 2 episodes a month to chat w/ Carly or give Lucas some sort of motherly grief. I mean, hello! She never has scenes w/ Morgan and rarely w/ Michael. Bring back Roy DeLucca for a triangle w/ Bobby, Scotty, & Roy. Something! Without Alan, Edward, very little Monica, and now Luke… we need Bobby.

Agreed and I think it is really important that Bobbie be a primary person Luke said goodbye to. Luke and Bobbie were a great brother and sister team. Loved their scenes in the disco and then hanging around Aunt Ruby’s etc. It would have been a crime not to put her front and center. What a gracious and wonderful person Jackie is. She needs to be used more on General Hospital and not just as Carly’s mom. A great idea might be to have Valerie and Bobbie live togther and built a strong relationship. Lulu is a terrible “friend” for Valerie and she needs someone else. I was really impressed the last scene they were together and it was the first time I ever really liked Valerie.

Yeah, ….I watched past episodes with Bobbi……so beautiful. Everyone was like a big, happy family….in the brownstone; enjoying each other’s company….discussing their day, problems etc. I bet most of you are whispering; “the good old days”, with a sigh. It must have been halcyon days, indeed. Sigh!

They were the “Good Old Days” and not just because of Luke’s departure. I dont know if you noticed but in those clips of him, GH used to go out on location during sweeps all the time. Also, the sets may have been cheesy but they were huge. Now, they have everyone shacked up in the Metro Court. I know the soaps are dying and the networks dont want to spend money on them but with technology a lot of things can be done with a “Green Scree.” Seems like no one cares anymore. Either way, I hope they write some good stories that get us involved. TCB!

@Timmm.
It is sad and unfortunate to think that soaps will, in all probability, become a thing of the past…..reality shows are stealing the spotlight. Yuck!!!! Everyone is cashing in….it seems that we have become such a lazy nation that we need not have our minds stimulated with intelligent viewing.
The Housewives, The Kardashians, the Bachelor/Bachelorette, The Chew….etc. so much stupidity with so much fodder….reality? Not really.
This is the future awaiting my children? If only this amount of money, time and effort were spent/dedicated on education, children’s brains would not lay dormant. It is no wonder Academia in America is going on a downward spiral.
I am proud of our country, Timmm. Soaps are part of Americana, much more inspiring and aspiring that what is presently offered.
Also, I wanted to make the point that, by no means, did I want to infer that Tony is irreverent by stating that he could care less about what people thought of him. I would think he does, indeed, care about his fans and giving them his all. I meant that, at this time in his life, he has paid his dues and it is his right to say and think whatever he wants to put out there. Honesty is the best policy.

She could be a house mother in a brothel and pimp out Denise and Morgan!

LOVE IT! LOL

Bittersweet, indeed. Best wishes to them both.

These scenes with Bobbie and Luke were beautiful, and I’m so glad they included a flashback. I’m disappointed there haven’t been more flashbacks, especially when we have the original actors in a scene together, like in his scenes with Jonathan Jackson. How poignant it would have been to see 11-yr-old Lucky & his dad. I really don’t understand why GH hasn’t made good use of flashbacks, when they are the easiest way to stir up our emotions. A picture says a thousand words and all that.

I thought the same thing. They could have stretched Lucky’s return to one or two more episodes by inserting flashbacks. I dont get it?

God I love them, The show has changed so much… Tony will always be in my heart and will be deeply missed.

Perhaps, Tony will be back; even for a visit. “Arrivederci” literally means, “we will see each other again”. One never knows….

On today’s show he tell’s Sonny he’ll be gone forever 🙁

@tskyent.
Yeah, well, so many characters have left for dead, no less. And, then? Voila’. Poof. There they are again!

Thanks for the lovely memories. The Luke and Bobbie relationship will be sorely missed.

Jackie;

The blocking was right, the direction was great, the writing was great and everybody was on their game, and it was kind of bittersweet.

JACKIE: (the 25th)
I thought the writers did a great job on that. Personally, I am one of those sentimental marshmallow people that has a big heart that likes to see the family stuff. I like character driven storylines. That is what emotionally works for me about soap operas, so I loved it! I thought it was beautifully written, and beautifully executed. JACKIE: I wanted to! Ron brought Bobbie back onto the show, when all she was doing was reacting to what was going on with Luke previously. I was under contract to ABC for decades, and then I wasn’t. But I have Ron to thank for changing that, for bringing the character back.
////
((Ron also brought back Scotty and Lucy.. and others..

It is a mistake to let Ron go..
He made a mistake trying to hold onto the Fluke story for 6 months waiting on Tony’s return, I’m sure he regrets doing that..
Nonetheless; when Tony did return Ron wrote Tony his 8th emmy story.

Ron’s writing of the 25th Anniversary story will give Tony his 9th emmy , and perhaps others will hold an too..

I know the next upcoming month of still Ron will show he was back on track, left Fluke/Luke behind and moved on..

Ron is the king of twist turns and Shockers!!
He did surprise us many a time..
I will miss the intrigue, suspense, twists & turns and always the shocker surprises !!
Also.. his shout-outs to past stories and vets . they were always fun..

Ron never put me to sleep.. He gave GH variety !!

Ron made a mistake with the Fluke story but ABC has made a horrible mistake bringing in 2 fired rejects that made numbers plummet at Y&R, and put me to sleep through much of 2014..

oops
I did not mean to imply that Fluke story was not good, it was; at first..
Ron had everybody guessing who and what with the Fluke story..
The problem was Tony being gone for 6 months and Ron trying to hold onto the story and keep it alive ..
Ron should have shelved the Fluke story when Tony was out..
But again.. at the beginning it was a good story, we all had theories lol ..

(and it Tony an emmy )

I enjoyed Ron’s writing. For those of you not familiar with the new regime, just wait. I watched their boring stories on Y&R as well as Jean’s when she wrote for ATWT up to its cancellation. I tuned into GH everyday mostly due to the talented acting and good stories.

This is a great interview with Jackie. She was very gracious to my Mom when she approached her at a restaurant years ago.

Beautiful scene with so much left unsaid, but silently present, between Jackie Z. and Tony G. And wonderful interview. I do indeed hope we will have Jackie Z. around on GH for a very long time as Barbara Jean Spencer.

They were lovely.

I find it odd that she was so complimentary about the writing after Tomy shredded “the writer”. I happen to agree with her! I love Tony Geary as an actor but don’t think much of him as a human being after his cheap shots at Ron.

Tony gave Ron ten weeks to wrap up his story. Not a day more. I gave up on Luke a long time ago. And I have no respect for Tony after reading his scathing article with Michael Logan. Tony should have left years ago if he felt like he did.

Tony did not shred Ron, he said the writer there are other writers that writes Tony’s scripts.. Ron does not every word for everyone.
Ron does not write every script that is what all the writers are for, script writing for the characters lol 🙂
Ron was not mentioned, just ‘writer..

Tony was talking mainly about directing/telling him what to do and how to act/do it, he doesn’t like that.. He thinks actors should be creative, as him, and do that on their own, it seems lol
Ron is a writer and not on stage directing, he is mainly in NY, also..

Tony did say he does not like the dead coming back, no big deal many don’t and Tony just expressed it very verbally LOL , indeed ..

reread what Tony actually said 🙂 not much about writing but directing ..

I think they were coming from a different place. She’s had no screen time for years, whereas he’s had a great contract and screen time. I would be grateful, too, if I were in her position.

I’ve been very open-minded where RC is concerned, yet I don’t think TG’s words were cheap shots. When you’ve portrayed a character for 37 years, over half of your life, you own that character. RC was inconsistent with Luke, particulary with the Fluke story. It was clear that Fluke was not actually Luke, and then RC changed direction. That would frustrate me as an actor. Out of contract, TG is free to express how he feels.

I think she would be complimentary because she still works there. Tony, on the other hand, is done and can express his feelings freely. I give Ron credit for saving GH. But something happened in the past several months and his writing was terrible. After all, Ron is out and Tony is still standing.

I always loved feisty redheaded Bobbie!

I hope the new writers continue to write for “Bobbie” If they don’t they will lose a viewer here. I was so happy when Ron C. wrote her back in.

Agreed!!!!!

I believe the new team will let her go..
She is not used much outside of being with Tony and he is gone..
They will be letting people go / cutting the fat as is said..
They very well may create their own new characters..
In with the new out with the old, perhaps..

Jackie Zeman is a cool lady with charisma, good at drama, with a subtle comedic bent, she sometimes reminded me of Marlo Thomas…I’m glad she will remain on the show and wish her more airtime.

Jackie looks great and she has a purpose on GH like Melody does on Y&R. They write stories for Melody all the time. I hope the new writers see this or remember doing this before and refocus on some of the mature vets. Bobbie, Monica, Mac, Scott. Scott is such a character. Him and Franco are great together. Have those two move in. Have Bobbie and Scott marry and have Franco move in with them!. Have Bobbie reopen the brownstone and have Franco and Nina live there along with some of the younger kids. Have Scott walking around in a robe and slippers and chasing Serenas boyfriends out of the house. Have a poker night. There are so many things to do and they have talented people around. Do something about it!

I felt these scenes between jackie and Tony were more memorable than his final episode today. I hope the new writers see the importance of keeping the character of Bobbi and Jacklyn zeman around. She has so much history to this show. Please keep her gh.

Luke and Bobbie have always been my favorite brother and sister in daytime. I will sorely miss them.
That being said, this was hands down the worst exit storyline for a 37 year iconic character. No flashbacks. No montages. Luke passing the torch to Sonny (ugh!). No goodbye to Laura.
Shameful on every level.

this was such a moving article… I have always loved Jackie zeman, and for ONCE GH got it right and gave them a beautiful episode of scenes. I have been watching them over and over the past 24 hours. I lost track of GH this summer and missed when it aired, but it was great to hear about her experience as actress and character. How would you differentiate? I mean, they may be fictional characters, but as audience we feel that we know them AND the actors that portray them… I loved how she described Bobbie as “earth mother…wanting to take care of everone else”… That has SO always been Bobbie’s role. Of course except when she was a total conniving witch back in the 70s. I will definitely miss their sibling relationship. Bobbie and Luke and Alan and Tracy (in different ways) were always such touching and entertaining, relatable relationships. And its thanks to the magic of Jackie and Tony (and Stuart and Jane) that they worked so well. Frisco and Tony were great too.

Looks like Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Ava (Maura West) are back to be each other’s sworn enemy number one. By the end of the Monday, April 22nd episode of General Hospital, the women know where they stand with each other after Nina goes in on Ava accusing her of wanting Sonny (Maurice Benard) all to herself, while her marriage has been on the rocks.

In story, at Nina’s office, Ava shows up to see Nina and says she is sorry about what happened with Sonny and that he reacted the way he did, acknowledging that is was over the top, even for Sonny. Ava says she’ll smooth things over, but Nina says she now understands how manipulative and transparent Ava really is.

Given their horrible history, Nina goes in on Ava and how she should never have trusted her. Nina wants to know how long has Ava had this agenda dating all the way back to telling Nina to turn Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) into the SEC. Ava says she never told her do to that, but Nina wants to know how long Ava has been playing her for a fool.

Ava says she moved in with Sonny to keep Avery safe and she wants to be on good terms with Avery’s father, Sonny. Nina thinks she likes being in Sonny’s inner circle. Ava tells Nina if she goes to him about her advising Nina to call the SEC on Carly and Drew, it won’t work.  Sonny still considers Nina a traitor and he will think she’s lying because she’s so desperate to win him back. Ava says if Nina would stop blaming everyone else that maybe Sonny would respect her.  Nina says “like he does you?” Ava says Sonny not only respects her, but he also counts on her.

From there, Ava launches into why she and Sonny understand each other, after all, Sonny is a powerful, turbulent, and sometimes violent man. She goes so far to say if Nina wanted someone to just sit by the fire with and play with their grandchildren, she’s got the wrong guy.  Ava then talks about Mike from Nixon Falls (Sonny with amnesia) and how Sonny hid the darkest parts of himself from Nina back then, whereas with Ava they are the same similar creatures, so he doesn’t have to hide anything.

Nina wants to know just what Ava wants with Sonny? What is her end game? Ava responds that they understand each other, in ways she can’t with Sonny. Nina tells Ava she can go ahead and have it all and signs Sonny’s divorce papers. Ava walks out with the documents, while Nina in tears at her desk, takes off her wedding rings and has her assistant come in so she can messenger the rings back to Sonny’s address.

The episode and these scenes featured great performances by Cynthia Watros and Maura West. You can check some of the scenes below.

Ellen Travolta Makes Another Return to General Hospital

If General Hospital’s Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) nuptials are on, you didn’t think Grandma Gloria Cerullo would miss out on the festivities, now did you?

Casting news from Soap Opera Digest reveals that Ellen Travolta is back taping scenes that will air the week of May 13th on the ABC daytime drama series.  When viewers learned that Carmine Cerullo, was also on his way back to Port Charles, now in the face and body of actor George Russo, it only made sense that Grandma Gloria would join Grandpa Cerullo. Look for them both mid-May.

As most people know, Ellen is the older sister to John Travolta. She first make appearances as Gloria back on GH in the mid-90s. Most recently, she returned to the Quartermaine mansion to meet up with daughter, Lois (Rena Sofer) and granddaughter Brook Lynn for Thanksgiving in Port Charles in 2023.  Michael Fairman TV interviewed Rena Sofer and Amanda Setton late last year where they shared what it had been liking working with Ellen, who remains very close to Sofer in real-life.

Amanda shared: “We fell in love immediately. What’s crazy is my maternal grandmother was Grandma Gloria. I had her till I was 30 and we were so close. She was really like a second mom to me. So, when I got this script and I’m reading “Grandma Gloria”, it was so bizarre. And then in meeting Ellen, she looks like my grandma – same haircut, same high cheekbones. It really did feel like I had a few days with my grandma. It was very, very special for me. Ellen is sweet, prepared, professional, talented and funny to boot. So, it was one of the best weeks I’ve had at work. I hope she comes back. My fingers are crossed.”

Now, we can’t imagine Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding day to be smooth sailing, in fact, expect just the opposite, but could it be Grandma Gloria who is ultimately the hero or the calming voice of reason for any pre-wedding jitters? Stay tuned.

So, glad to know that Ellen Travolta will be back for Brook Lynn and Chase’s big day? Comment below.
