Need to Know

  • NBCUniversal has canceled entertainment news show, Access Hollywood after nearly 30 years.
  • Karamo and The Steve Wilkos Show were also canceled after 4 and 19 seasons, respectively.
  • Access Hollywood’s current hosts include: Mario Lopez, Kit Hoover, Zuri Hall and Scott Evans. The show won 12 Daytime Emmys during its run.

It’s truly the end of an era as NBCUniversal announced on Friday that it is terminating its first-run syndication series in one fell swoop. Sadly, longtime entertainment news and features series, Access Hollywood has been shown the front door after 30 years.

That’s not all, Karamo and Steve Wilkos which have both completed production will air all-new episodes that have been taped through the summer and not return, Access Hollywood and Access Live will continue production through the summer before ending their run.

With the advent and popularity of You Tube, podcasts and more, this is a major sign of how difficult it is to keep a daytime TV audiences in 2026 with so many options for fans and viewers to choose from across multi-platforms. Previously, NBCUniversal said that marketplace conditions no longer support the traditional model of syndication.

However, according to Frances Berwick, NBCUniversal’s Chairman of Bravo & Peacock unscripted, who shared in a statement, “NBCUniversal is making changes to our first-run syndication division to better align with the programming preferences of local stations. The company will remain active in the distribution of our existing program library and other off-network titles, while winding down production of our first-run shows. These shows have provided audiences with great talk and entertainment content for many years and we’re very proud of the teams behind them.”

Access Hollywood has been in production for nearly 30 years. It’s first episodes aired in September of 1996. Its current hosts include: Mario Lopez, Kit Hoover, Scott Evans, and Zuri Hall. Executive producers are Mike Marson and Julie Cooper. The series took home 12 Daytime Emmy Awards during its run.

Hosted by Karamo Brown, Karamo is in its fourth season and is executive produced by Kerry Shannon and Gloria Harrison-Hall and in its 19th season in national syndication, The Steve Wilkos Show is currently the second-longest running daytime talk show in current production. Executive producer is Rachelle Wilkos.

Previously, Kelly Clarkson announced she was exiting The Kelly Clarkson Show after its current 7th season which is also under the NBCUniversal umbrella.

So, what do you think of ‘Access Hollywood’ being axed? With daytime television in a major upheaval, do you think programmers will turn back to any other new soaps to fill the time slot void, or just have much cheaper programming fare, and if so, what? It’s always disheartening to cancel a show with significant longevity, and Access Hollywood is one such example. They had 30 fantastic years, and it’s sad to know it’s ending because NBCUniversal Syndication is done with first-run productions.

First E! News, then Sherri, and now Karamo and Access Hollywood, It just hurts to see Good shows being cancelled for no reason other than money.

I only watch one daytime talk show: Steve Wilcox I wish at least one of his shows stays on,. You can take THE VIEW off since Barbra Walters is dead that show isn’t good, even going as far to keep viewers watching to see what Joy Behar is being used to grab ratings I don’t and won’t watch the View

Well, at least MAGAt Mario Lopez is out of a job.
