Alison Sweeney who since departing her long time role as Sami Brady on Days of our Lives has been busy on the other side of the camera!

First, she recently directed an episode of General Hospital and will be returning to do future episodes, and now comes word from Alison that she is already back in Salem directing an episode of DAYS!

Today, Alison tweeted this pic with the words,”So happy 2 b back in Salem – directing! Love visiting my peeps,  Lauren Koslow (Kate) and Deidre Hall (Marlena)!”

No word yet on when the episode will air, but as fans of the NBC soap know, DAYS tapes months in advance!

So, what do you think of Alison directing at DAYS?  Ready for her run as Sami to wrap-up on air in the coming months?  Share your thoughts below!

Why does DAYS tape so far in advance in comparison to other soaps?

Saves them money. They shoot 8 episodes in 5 days, with one week a month always dark. But as time goes, those extra days shooting a one week frame produces adds up to further and further in advance they are in shooting VS air.

It has been said other soaps will be following suit to the same end, but it doesn’t seem like they’re taking it that far yet.

To have time to find a new home if NBC does not want to continue.

It was decided years ago to tape far in advance to reduce the production costs and keep Days on the air. I for one think it was an incredibly smart decision and ever since the switch ( which I think was sometime around 2010) the show has been such a pleasure to watch.

I find there is more of a balance with character airtime and story arcs that don’t drag out forever.

I hope that helps explain a little, and they tape about 4.5-5 months in advance if you were wondering.

I wondered about that as well.

Glad Alison is back in Salem, even if it is behind the camera! Didn’t think she could stay away for long. Nice to know you can always go home again!

She’s been gone all of 5 minutes and not on screen yet…SMH…she seems to be all over the map at the moment doing even more than she did when she was acting. OVER THIS!!!

I love Sami,so hurry home to Dool and Lucas forever this time 🙂

Would love her to be in Lucas’ orbit. Love Lucas & miss him. He needs more story no matter what.

Maybe Lucas and Serena(Melissa Archer) will be paired…i can picture them together and see chemistry without them even in scenes yet…hope it happens!!!

So happy for Allison Sweeney and DooL. Nice photo too

She’ll eventually be back in front of the camera too…im certain she’ll want to be part of Days 50th next year!!!

Well I am sure she will do an excellent job directing, she’s an intelligent gal with great instincts – she understands the way a soap unfolds, and the sometimes cornball expressions and reactions that are required (I don’t mean that as a “put down” at all because I love DAYS but we all know how each scene is it’s own cliffhanger) – at any rate I think most of us feel confident she has the experience and know how that is needed when directing daytime drama.

I certainly will miss having Sami in Salem, but I support Ali’s decision. Days is so good these days, and newer actresses like Kassie dePaiva, Jen Lilley and incoming Melissa Archer should help keep the drama stirred with fan favorites, such as Missy Reeves, Lauren Koslow, and Ari Zucker.

There is no place like home! If Alison is a good director, shouldn’t the people at Days benefit from her expertise? Of course they should! Welcome home, Alison!

I have watched Alison Sweeney since she started on DAYS, and am so sad to know she will be off screen. I hope she returns periodically, as no one can fill her shoes with the same zest and passion that she put in to Sami Brady. Now I see character E.J. was killed on Friday’s episode.. Losing to many characters. It should have been Stephano.
