‘Beyond the Gates’ Premiere Week Ratings: Major Gains Over ‘The Talk,’ More Tuning-In Than Debut of ‘Passions,’ and Tie with GH for Total Viewers
Beyond the Gates, the first new offering of a network television daytime drama series in over 25 years, scored very well in its kick-off week of episodes. In fact, Beyond the Gates topped the series it replaced, year-to-year, The Talk, by over 78 percent.
The new soaps total audience was up for the same week in 2024 as The Talk, as well as its same-day ratings and among the key women demos of 18-49 and 25-54 by 56 percent year-to-year.
In addition, the premiere episode of Beyond the Gates airing February 24, 2025, averaged 3.0 million viewers, beating out the July 5, 1999 debut episode of NBC’s now defunct Passions, which averaged 2.96 million. It should be noted that Beyond the Gates had a larger share of the audience tuning-in than Passions with a 9 to 7 share, respectively.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series averaged 2.28 million cross-platform viewers for its premiere week of February 24-28th. The average viewers also includes three days of streaming and other delayed viewing (L+3) than just its broadcast television numbers.
For its first week on the air, Beyond the Gates tied with its new rival, General Hospital in total viewers for the week. Both shows are in the same time slot in most time zones of the country. The two soaps had just over 2.02 million viewers including three days of delayed viewing (L+3). However, as previously reported, Beyond the Gates did beat GH in the key demo of adults and women, 25-54.

In a deep-dive look at the numbers, at least over 5.2 million people watched at least the first six minutes of the new show. As to the breakdown of viewers, 55% of its audience was Black versus CBS sister soaps, Black audience of B&B 30%, Y&R 29% and 22% for ABC’s General Hospital.
So, what do you think of ‘Beyond the Gates’ first full week of ratings data? Comment below.
Yes! This is what I am talking about! They did it! Now it’s time to maintain and continue on!
Oh; please. Like this is a surprise? If any other race or religion said we’re having an all this or that with a sprinkle of “other’ they’d be accused of racism. Some people jump in like it’s the fifties and they think they’re marching for civil rights. It’s getting old…
Your racism and ignorance is beyond old. Time to log offline, Rebecca.
Lady, you’re never satisfied, are you?
Sure Jan.
Nice racist spelling of a name. So touch some grass.
This is so well-deserved and such a welcome breath of fresh air! I’m greatly enjoying BTG so far and am very eager to stay with it! Hopefully, the numbers will stay respectable as the weeks and months go on. Bravo to CBS for green-lighting this brand-new soap!
TPTB at ABC/Disney and GH running the show into the ground had better wake up and get their act together!! That soap has become an embarrassing, pathetic hot mess which is threatening to destroy its legacy!
Agreed, Scott! I never thought I’d watch another soap again after AMC left the air, but I’m loving this. Karla Mosley, Daphnee Duplaix, and Marquita Goings are amazing. Thank you, Michele Val Jean!
Yes!!!
No one’s watching this $hit
Yet here you are wasting your energy on something you claim no one is watching. Get a life.
I guess you cannot read millions have seen this fantastic soap opera, beautiful people, glamour, and chaos
I stream an unable to get it on my Hulu n Sling plans
Paramount+ is where to stream it!
OMG, do I have to see freaking Ava Jerome every time I open this page?
I’m so sad. I was excited for this new soap. The acting is mediocre and the editing is terrible. Oh, it’s time for an ad…we’ll just do it here. Some really good story lines but way too many characters at once. Who belongs to who? I hope it gets better…really FAST.
I Enjoyed the soap because it’s everything I anticipated besides it was a predominately a black cast zThank you gotta watch cause of DANNI but now LESLIE CONGRATULATIONS MUCH SUCCESS

TUNE-IN: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Banneker Homecoming Episodes, EP Sheila Ducksworth Speaks on Impact HBCUs Have in Real Life

As previously reported, kicking off today, is a two-part Beyond the Gates, when The Duprees gather to celebrate Banneker University’s homecoming weekend.
The producers and writers are taking an opportunity to spotlight the rich traditions of the long-held tradition of attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through its fictional university.
The episodes are today on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Friday, October 2 and next week on Monday, October 5, where in true Beyond the Gates fashion, there will be some surprising drama that ensues when someone shows up!

BANNEKER REFLECTS THE IMPORTANCE OF HBCUS
Sheila Duckworth, (executive producer, Beyond the Gates) spoke to Soaps.com to give some insight on the decision for the series to illustrate the ties that bind with HBCUs.
“It was important that we have this school as almost a character on our canvas, right from the beginning. Beyond even education, HBCUs have been pivotal when it comes to everything from economic progression and fostering a sense of community to the development of leadership skills,” explained Ducksworth. “From the beginning, we wanted to illustrate that what the Duprees are able to do in the world was a direct reflection of the impact HBCU’s have in real life.”
EVERYTHING HAS ITS PURPOSE
The EP talked about how purposeful the elements that integrate Banneker into the overall story of Beyond the Gates are including: the Dupree family door knocker that is a lion, the mascot for the fictional university, plus, the upcoming fight song that the cast will sing together on the Monday, October 5 episode, and the painting the hangs at Fairmont Crest.
That portrait of Vernon Dupree’s (Clifton Davis) father, George Cheeks Dupree, that hangs prominently at the country club, was named after CBS executive George Cheeks (now Chairman of TV and Media, Paramount), and as Ducksworth says of the legacy of Vernon’s father, “He was the architect of Fairmont Crest.”
So, are you looking forward to these episodes honoring HBCU traditions with the Dupree and the Richardson clans? What surprises do you think might be in store come next week? Let us know via the comment section below.

‘Beyond the Gates’ Honors HBCU Tradition with Banneker University Homecoming Episodes

Beyond the Gates is set to air two upcoming episodes on Friday, October 2 and Monday, October 5 on CBS, which will feature the residents of Fairmont Crest gathering at the Dupree family home for a spirited tailgate ahead of Banneker’s Homecoming, decked out in the university’s signature crimson and gold.
The episodes celebrate African American heritage by showcasing the longstanding homecoming traditions of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) through the show’s fictional Banneker University.
With five generations of the Dupree family having attended Banneker, Homecoming is more than a celebration – it’s a cherished family legacy. For the Duprees and the Fairmont Crest community, it offers an opportunity to honor their shared history, celebrate their HBCU pride, and come together for a special day filled with family, friendship, and tradition.

It should be noted that both Beyond the Gates and General Hospital aired an encore presentation on Labor Day, September 7.
Here’s what had viewers tuning-in on Beyond the Gates: Hayley (Marquita Goings) faced mounting pressure as Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) grew suspicious of her lies and a major secret came to light. Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman) went through a paranoid spiral noticed by Dani (Karla Mosley), while Heather Armstrong’s (Ashley Jones) behavior became increasingly unhinged, Deanna (Angela Fairley) reached a breaking point under mounting pressure and decided to return to school and Smitty (Mike Manning) was digging deeper into the death of Lia Whitmore.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Once again, Y&R remained as the number one most-viewed broadcast television daytime drama of then all, clocking in with 3,059,000 tuning-in, but down -130,000 week-over-week, but still up + 159,000 year-over-year. Y&R also remained in the top spot for household ratings share and atop the key women’s 25-54 rating share.
