Burgess Jenkins IN As New Billy Abbott On Y&R! David Tom OUT!

In more casting news from The Young and the Restless prior to the long Memorial Day weekend, according to a report this morning from Daytime Confidential, the powers-that-be have made a casting switch and have decided to replace David Tom in the role of Billy Abbott with actor, Burgess Jenkins!
The role of Billy has been critical to the show, and after the departure of fan favorite, Billy Miller, Tom returned to the role he originated, but seemingly could not catch-on with the viewers this time around.
The series has replaced him with Burgess Jenkins, who is known for his roles on Army Wives, Nashville and One Tree Hill. Jenkins also appeared in the films, Remember the Titans and Hero.
Thus far this morning there has been no official word from Y&R on the casting change, but we will keep you posted as developments warrants.

‘Brilliant Minds’ Officially Canceled After 2 Seasons at NBC; DAYS Alum Al Calderon, OLTL Alum Teddy Sears and Zachary Quinto Among the Cast
After languishing on the bubble for months, on Friday, NBC handed down the decision and canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.
Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
The final six episodes of what will now be the end of its second and final season were already set to air beginning on May 27, after being pulled off the network schedule in February as viewership saw a steep decline. Brilliant Minds second season became the lowest-rated drama on linear TV viewing, which didn’t bode well fo a network renewal, although it had its hard core fan base.

There are some exceptional notables in the cast along with the talented Quinto that includes Days of Our Lives alum, Al Calderon (ex-Javi Hernandez) who joined the series in its second season as Nurse Nico Silva, and One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) who plays Wolf’s love interest and fellow physician, Dr. Josh Nichols.
The rest of the talented cast includes: Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, and Brian Altemus.
In an ironic twist of fate on Thursday, April 30, Days of Our Lives finally revealed the actor who was Al Calderon’s successor in the role of Javi, when they announced that actor Jacob Martinez had now stepped into the role. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episode, Calderon left in the spring of 2025, but will be seen in the part for the final part this month, and then on June 20, Martinez debuts as Salem’s new Javi.
Taking to his Instagram with a sorrowful and heartfelt post on the Brilliant Minds cancellation was Teddy Sears who wrote, “Thank you, Brilliant Minds. I got the call today and I didn’t want to hear, but I knew that it would come, You have to be a particular vintage to quote Don Henley from memory, but that’s the line that came to mind earlier today after I got off the phone with our inimitable showrunner Michael Grassi who delivered the news that NBC has cancelled the series”.

Sears continued, “To say that I feel sad to be moving on from these stories, this character, and this cast and crew just doesn’t paint the entire picture. I’m sad, sure. But I’m also deeply grateful that I got hired to play this part, so proud of the stories we told, and the other actors I got to play alongside. I’m excited to see what comes next, what adventures await, and terrified to be without a professional home. A quick and heartfelt thank you to everyone, all over the globe, who found us and found themselves in us, in our characters and in our stories. We wouldn’t have been able to tell them without you. And we still have 6 fresh episodes yet to air, and I do hope you tune in enjoy the remainder of the series. They’re the best we’ve done.”
As he wrapped up his sentiments, Sears signed off with, “The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I figured out I have to learn again. I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But everything changes…Thank you, Brilliant Minds.”
The medical drama was created and executive produced by Michael Grassi alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra.

‘General Hospital’s’ Jonathan Bennett Receives 3 ‘Critics Choice Real TV Awards’ Nominations for Hallmark Series, ‘Finding Mr. Christmas’
Many things are coming up roses for Jonathan Bennett! On the heels of the news that he is set to debut this month in the role of Joe Fitzpatrick on General Hospital, who is rumored to be a new love interest for Lucas Jones (Van Hansis), comes the news that Bennett’s reality series, Finding Mr. Christmas has received 3 nomination for the Critics Choice Real TV Awards.
Bennett’s Hallmark Channel series finds itself in tough competition alongside fellow nominees: RuPaul’s Drag Race (MTV), Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix), Survivor 50 (CBS), Top Chef (Bravo) and The Traitors (Peacock). In addition, Jonathan himself is nominated for Best Show Host and the series participants as the Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series.
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) revealed the nominees for the eighth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards on Thursday, which recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. Winners will be announced online at CriticsChoice.com on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 9:00am PT/12:00pm ET.

Taking to his Instagram to celebrate the nominations, GH’s Bennett, enthused, “3 Critic Choice Nominations! I’m so proud of the FINDING MR CHRISTMAS and to be in the company of all the legends in all these categories is so surreal! Congrats to Hallmark Channel and to our nominated cast and nominated show and everyone who made this magical show possible. This is crazy! This gives FMC 6 Critics Choice nominations in 2 years. Not bad for a little show on Hallmark Channel. What are your thoughts on our show?” Jumping first into the comment thread was one of his new GH co-stars, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) who expressed, “Yeah buddy!!!🔥🔥”
In the series, Bennett, the host and co-creator spends eight weeks guiding 10 aspiring actors through a series of “festive face-offs” and acting challenges alongside actors like soap opera notables, Hunter King (ex-Summer, Y&R) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). Along the way, they develop their skills and a bond with one another. The show, which is available on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Plus, highlights LGBTQ+ representation with openly gay contestants vying to be the next Hallmark star.
It should be noted that Traitors received the most Critics Choice Real TV Award nominations with 6 nods, followed by Dancing with the Stars with 4.
Bennett is very familiar to daytime fans having started his career as JR Chandler on All My Children in 2000-2001, before landing the part of Aaron Samuels in the motion picture, Mean Girls in 2004 starring Lindsay Lohan, which would become his breakout performance.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?
On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.
As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.
Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.
BROTHERLY LOVE?
Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”
With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”
BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE
Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”

Well, it shows that Y&R is listening to its fans whether its because of all the talk or the loss of ratings. Either way, never heard of this guy but willing to see if he can fill Mr. Miller’s huge shoes.

Not true. MCE is one heck of an actress and she and Muhney had devastating chemistry together. No one could handle Adam but Chelsea. She can do wonders if t he writing is on target. She is a great actress.

This show is a mess because of one person: Jill Farren Phelps. She’s done exactly the same thing to Y&R that she’s done everywhere she’s been before. She threw out the top actors on the show and brought in her friends, who have no talent except kissing her backside. Billy Miller and Michael Muhney were tossed out on the same day, while Michelle Stafford knew she couldn’t stay under this regime, so she left. Phelps brought in Steve Burton, who is her stud muffin, and now he’s the focus of the show. It’s awful. Ratings and demos are declining. This is the “Phelps Effect”. Hope CBS figures it out before it’s too late. Sony is to blame for unleashing this witch on Y&R.

Anything is better than David Tom. He did get dropped in a no win situation, following the best thing to hit daytime in years Billy Miller. But a robot would have been better than DT. I would seriously reconcider his chosen career. But really excited about a possible Kelly/Jack/Billy/ and Gina Tognoni as Phyllis quadrangle. Gina is going to chew the scenery and Cady is going to make her eat it. I smell a cat fight in a pond coming…. Finallly a reason to want to watch the trainwreck of Jill Phelps once again!

I think this is going to be a good choice to replace the current Billy, while I was a fan of Billy Miller and I realize that David Tom was the original Billy he did not have the chemistry with anyone on the show, he seemed more like a whinny teenager and to be honest the character had changed. As for Chelsea I love her, can’t wait to see who they have replaced the Adam Newnan on the show even though I think that role will be hard to replace too.

BIlly Miller wanted to be able to do the show and other projects at the same time. They weren’t ok with that, so he chose the other projects…..as sad as I am that he left (even my husband noted Miller is better than Thom)…..he wanted to pursue other interests and “chose his path” 🙂
I agree, Billy Abbott is not Billy Abbott without Billy Miller~ they should of let him stay and take on other jobs as well. This new guy- oh No! – horrible. He wasn’t even dressed the way any Billy would be dressed~ very poor job portrayng a character with the background of BA. I hate to be negative, but I would say the writers need to go back to the drawing board on this one
David Tom had big shoes to fill, but I can’t say that I ever found him to be a good actor.

I always loved and forever love to see Billy Miller as Billy Abbott and then when David Tom came back to be the replacement it was A.O.K with me! It didn’t seem to b too much of a change, now, there is this Jenkins
character. Uhhh…he seems too old to play the part and doesn’t appear to be a prefer fit from a visual standpoint! I want another Billy! Jenkins is not appealing to the part, might b capable but not interesting!

Sorry but this is crap…not “catching on”. He originated the part! Billy Miller was great, but nice to see the original back. He does look younger, baby face, but he knows the character. Just had my first look at the new guy, nice, but not the character. Getting tired of these quick character changes, at least we still have Paul and Christine, two of my favorites from way back, unless they plan to kill him off with the new story line. some of us old fans like to see our old friends still on the scene.
WTH is going on Y&R! This new guy resembles Stitch, in my opinion. He doesn’t seem like a strong enough actor for this story line. David Tom talked with one eye closed, glad to see he’s gone! Do us all a favor and bring back the old Billy!

I was just getting used to David Tom. Nobody can replace Billy Miller and this new guy is terrible. Chelsea is great! Lily should be replaced but it never seems to happen. The new Kelly is much better. I think it’s time for Drucilla to come back!
Billy Miller needs to return as does Michael Muhlney (Adam Newman). Lilly and the whole Winters family are a snooze fest; their storylines are boring as most of the storylines have become of late.Y &R needs serious help!!!!

I am not happy with the new Billy. Doesn’t fit the role as developed/Should have kept one of the former. He does not seem comfortable with Victoria nor she with him. But I love her. Please stop firing and replacing people. Phylis, Adam, Billy, Chloe – When will it end. It makes the familiar strange and new.
It has become too too painful to even watch YandR these days. The storylines are so insignificant and boring! I wish they would bring Adam back and not recast him. I wish they would bring Billy Miller back b/c I wasn’t a fan of David Tom and he looked too young for Victoria.

I loved Billy Miller and agree that they should have found a way to keep him. That being said I thought David and Billy looked quite similar and I easily accepted David Tom in the role. I absolutely hate the new guy. No chemistry and no charm. Please switch back! Get rid of the whole Kelly character as soon as possible if Cady McClain’s age was the issue. She adds nothing and I don’t miss her predecessor either! I dread seeing New Phyllis as no one can fill Michelle Stafford.s
I agree totally. Kelly serves no purpose. I personally think they went from bad to worse with both of the characters playing Kelly. the only thing worse of course was the Billy replacement.I’m just so glad someone else saw what I saw. Didn’t like Tom years ago, don’t connect with Jenkins. They should grovel and bring Billy Miller back. Talk about chemistry…he had it with his fellow actors and the viewers. Eventually Y&R has to bring back an Adam and/or Phyliss OR NOT.

Bring back Billy Miller……PLEASE! I have been watching this show for 30 years (since i was a small child and my mom was watching it) I hate it when we switch, but usually after a while i can get used to it. so far none of the changes of Billy Abbot’s character feel remotely natural.
OMG! This guy isn’t good looking (he doesn’t even have a top lip!) nor does he have the swag that Billy Abbot is suppose to have. For the love of Pete, there has got to be someone that can do a halfway decent job!

I loved Billy Miller. I didn’t like David Tom and I can’t STAND Burgess Jenkins. He looks at the side monitor too much because he doesn’t know his lines. I know he’s knew but he has no chemistry with anyone. I didn’t really like the last Kelly but she’s better than the new one. I don’t think she can act either. I like Chelsea and I think they should keep her. Too much change for me though.

The new billy look old enough to be victory’s father
This new Billy is way too old for this character. He is supposed to be Jack Abbott’s baby brother and looks older than Jack. He has no chemistry with Victoria or Chelsea. He is awful. David Tom was a way more realistic character for this role and he was the original Billy. I don’t understand why he would be replaced with Burgess. For all the people complaining about Chelsea, I will stop watching if you replace her character. She is awesome. I have been watching y&r for 26 yrs and have seen a lot of characters come and go. Chelsea is vital to the show and is an amazing actress. Bring Billy Miller back!! Pay him more if he wants it. He can’t be replaced obviously.
Besides all the recasting lately is anyone else confused with the dialogue between Paul and Nikki ! They were in the cult “30 years ago” before she met Victor? Ok how old are Victoria and Nicholas? Suppose to be? If Dylan is Nikki’s oldest child, please explain how Nicks son ( Nikki’s grandson) Noah is over 21 ? So Dylan is 30? Victoria is 28? Nick 27? And nicks son 21? Seriously??????

The new billy is horrible. No chemistry with the other actors. Dresses sloppy and cant really act in soaps. Billy Miller is the only one who can carry this roll. I have been watching Y & R for over 15 years. Cant the producers and writers please, please bring him back. It really affects the show and whether I will watch it anymore.

I do not like the new Billy. He looks way too old. What are the producers thinking about? Miller was the best, but I was adjusting to Thom again. After all he originated the character. Not a good thing to have to keep recasting a role. It makes the whole show seem less and less believable,
This Billy is horrible! He is not even remotely handsome, speaks like a robot, and has zero chemistry with Victoria or Chelsea! Love Billy Miller! No one can replace him!
Never a good sign when you have to recast a recast. Didn’t love DT, but didn’t hate him as much as other people did, I thought he was doing a decent job. The only thing missing was he lacked the charm and humor BM infused into the character. Hopefully this new guy can capture those qualities, but in the end I think many fans will never accept anyone except BM in the role.
He was not recast , he was first actor to played the role not billy miller, ryan brown and neither Scott Seymour.
I know who David Tom is — but any actor who replaces another in a role is a recast- even if they played the role before. But if you want to nick pick on who played Billy first then technically it was Katrin and Margert Ingimasdottir who portrayed him as a baby– and then were a two or three child actors before him the last one being Scotty Leavenworth who played him for two years before Tom arrived– so if anything David Tom replaced poor little Scotty when the show SORAS the character.
I not going to argue with you about this , I got better stuff to do. You do not babies or child actors as originals potrayers of the characters, unless they the character from a child to a adult. If we counted babies their be no original portrayers. So do not get attitude with me.

I did not have attitude until you sent your comment about me being nick picky. I was simply stated a fact on the billy situation. I like your comment , but I do not like when somebody assumes what I trying to point out.
I apologize we must have gotten our wires crossed. It felt to me you were being picky when you felt the need to say that DT was not a recast. My point was when there are constant cast changes on set that doesn’t bode well for any television show, so who cares what term I used. To me that was being picky.
So I responded by taking being picky to the extremes– in attempt to be funny, but perhaps it came across as too sarcastic because I do realize babies are not the original actors that would be silly, which was my point to be as silly as I thought you were being with me by taking issue with the word recast.

Completely and utterly shocked at this decision. I feel like David Tom was not given the chances he should’ve been given in the role. He came in during the heat of a storyline, and he blew it out of the water with flying colours, and made the role his once again. It was the annoyance of whiners and complainers who ruined it. There was so much more they could’ve done with the character of Billy Abbott with David in the role, and they aren’t giving it the chance.
While I am a fan of Burgess Jenkins, he looks too old for the role, despite being 4-5 years older than David Tom. He looks more like someone who could play Jess Walton’s husband or boy toy. But I will reserve my own feelings when he debuts in the role.
Wish David the best in whatever it is that he does, because he is a great and talented actor. And he did not deserve this to happen to him at all. And I wish Y&R “fans” (not really fans cause all they do is bitch and moan) lay off. They need lives.
Scott, I agree with your every word. I felt David Tom was working his butt off reclaiming the role he originated. Maybe if the writers and some of his co stars worked half as hard as he did, this would have worked. No one has that natural bubbly effervescence that Billy Miller has. The last four years, Billy Miller has been phoning it in lately but no one seemed to notice. I think Amelia is just an okay, borderline somnolent actress and she needs an over-the-top extrovert to distract from her shortcomings. If they had just given Tom the time to make this role his own again and to allow the memory of Miller’s persona to fade away this would have worked.

I remember when David Tom originated the role of the adult Billy and he was wonderful, as he still is. And I agree that BM had just been phoning it in, I’m glad somebody else could discern that as well. I’m disappointed that they didn’t give him the time to really see what he could make of the role. Given the story lines and dialog he had to work with, I’m not so sure he could have done better. I’m thinking this new guy isn’t going to win over anyone that DT couldn’t. Too bad people are so impatient. I think they’ve made a huge mistake doing this recast at a time when so many other recasts are on the horizon and beloved characters are leaving.

Scott it also does not help when you have co-workers undermining you at every turn because they can not accept the fact BM left. Cardboard cut outs in dressing rooms and pictures of BM on their twitter. I wonder how that made Mr. Tom feel? Over time he probably could have made it his own again I mean he did win an emmy for the part. The rumors had been circulating for a couple of weeks it had also been suggested they approached Miller to come back. Actors are there to do their job not dictate who they are going to work with.

I agree that he could have made this role his own had he been given both time and support. It also makes me sad that Jeanne Cooper is no longer with us. Not only would she have given him the support he deserved, Billy and Mrs. C would have had had some really terrific character driven scenes based on their history. Also, am I the only one suffering from figurative whiplash upon hearing that not only has David Tom been fired, they have recast the role? This strongly suggests that this has been a plan in motion for quite some time while also demonstrating that they were never giving David Tom a chance.
I agree that David wasn’t given a chance. His sister wasn’t that great of an actress until she moved to B n B. I think David was doing a fine job, and some fans need to get over it. But I agree with someone else who said JFP should be fired. In Survivor speak, the head of the snake, and all that.

I agree. It takes time for an actor (even one who was in the role before) to find their feet & make the role their own, plus the audience needs time to let go of the image of how the previous actor played the role & let the new one in. DT just wasn’t given enough time. I wish him well.

I thought Michael Muhney said his been fired had nothing to do with JFP.So maybe JFP wanted him to stay but she got overruled by her bosses at the network and Sony.Plus it was reported that it was CBS and Sony that wanted to rest the character of Adam for 4-6 months and then recast him.
Carole I am going to disagree with you about HT she was a great Victoria she had spunk and fire I believe she has two emmys from playing Victoria Newman. Also when HT was playing Victoria she actually got to slap her father EB which I might add I loved but EB sure did not. lol

I thought I was the only one who felt David wasn’t given a chance. He is not Billy Miller, he is David Tom and I for one enjoyed him in the role. It was like having the old Billy back again. He was fired just when some fans were getting used to him being there. This new guy is too old for this role. Billy is supposed to be younger than Victoria. This guy definitely looks older. There are too many casting changes and new faces. There is no interesting story being driven right now. Everything is the same every day. They need new writers.

Fire Jill Farren Phelps and rehire Billy Miller. She has nearly recast the entire show. This new actor may be good but he is not Billy Miller. I used to watch and now FF through most scenes. She has hacked this show beyond repair and if CBS and Sony do nothing to Stop her, then they deserve the show to fail. Steve Kent is an idiot and Les Moonves should be more connected realizing what is happening over at Y&R. When a EP such as JFP has had so many soaps flop under her dictatorship and continues to work it certainly makes one wonder who she is connected too and How?
Keep Les Moonves out of it or we may get Julie Chen as the next Kelly.

What do you think makes your show an award winner but your cast of winners? Enjoy this win because I think it will be a long time before Y&R gets another with the turnover of actors and the storylines.

There are so many out of work soap actors that fans miss that part of me really wishes they had hired someone with a soap background. I’m still pretty shocked Brandon Barrash (ex Johnny, GH) wasn’t picked up for this role.

I agree with you. What is she doing to this soap? I know some blame the writers but she’s in charge and it’s up to her to fix things. And she did start her tenure by replacing many of our favorites with her insipid Hollywood Heights actors. That was just the first of many bad decisions. She needs to hurry the story lines along, make them more plausible, scrap the Nikki/Kris/Paul jealousy crap, dump the whole Hillary story and get rid of the character. Recast Abby, give Cane a real story, and use Ian less. Or at least let him get caught in his lies more often.

I agree Timmm. The Dylan character is about as boring as they get. And pairing him with the equally dull cupcake baking Avery isn’t helping. Even though I like Steve Burton, this character is going nowhere. There is no real substance to him at all.

Billy Miller has a look of a teenager and all those facial expressions were horrible. Glad he is gone as for Miachel Muhney he owns the part of Adam. How can you replace the unreplaceable. I don’t even like the new Kelly with Jack she just doesn’t have the look.

Well I for one do not rejoice in someone losing their job he was so thrilled about being back and constantly singing Y&R praises! The bottom line is this show is in trouble because of the writing etc. do not blame the problem on the actors. DT’s major problem for me was he needed a voice coach to tone down the shrill in his voice much like Kristina Wagner/Felicia on GH.
Exactly, Kay–he was over the moon about this job. I kind of feel like he was used–as if TPTB knew he was a transitional actor.
One more reason I can now quit watching Y&R. Loss of too many talented actors, new ones being recast with recasts. This show is nothing like the Y&R I have been watching for 20 something years. Storylines are confusing. Is what his name still in the attic while Jill tries to figure out the mystery of the Music Box. I swear that music box should be a contract player. This soap is ridiculous. No Chloe, no Kyle, new and new again Billy, new Phyllis, no Adam. People have to ask themselves why so many talented people are jumping ship. Oh yeah, JFP.
When you jump, jump out as far as you can and swim as far away as possible so the ship does not drag you down as it sinks.
The Music Box story line is one of the worst ever! They need Jeanne’s son to come on the show and take over the mansion and boot Jill and Colin out! Terrible. Secondly, they had a good actor who played Kyle. He was the guy who kind of had a Michael J. Fox look and was believable as Jack’s son.
David Tom was doing an amazing job as Billy Abbott. I cannot help but think this is because he appeared to be much younger than Victoria and that they didn’t ignite much chemistry. Perhaps they ought to have given up the idea of Billy and Victoria because David Tom does enjoy chemistry with other female characters on the series. I also really felt he was Jack’s brother and enjoyed their heart to hearts. He was really growing into this role, enjoyed the way he took Victor and Stitch on in the gym the other day. They ought to have given him a chance. I feel bad for him and wonder what is going on behind the scenes of Y&R .
I think you are probably right they decided they needed a hunkier Billy for triangles I do think that is why they moved him away from the Kelly character. Speaking of which I am just not feeling CM’s version the character seems to have lost her edge. Bottom line I would like to start enjoying the show again 98% of it is pretty dull.
There are so many factors at play here. Billy Miller was outrageously popular in the role because of his own charm and talent but also the character was written well. He was given good lines to say…the humour and the snark were written for him. But after the story of Delia’s death…the character, by necessity, changed. Even Miller was not light or charming after Delia’s death. He was sad, angry, and miserable. He had to be. David Tom came back to a completely changed Billy. For those of us who remember David was praised critically and by fans during his initial run and he won an Emmy. His Billy was extremely popular then. Maybe if he had been given a chance to play SOME light hearted and charming moments fans would have seen a different side of him. For whatever reason Tom didn’t really click in the role this time around. Writing is always a big part of that though. It is very hard for even the best actors to rise above badly written material. Looking at this new guy’s pictures…it seems a little jarring. I don’t know how they go from baby faces Miller and Tom to rugged looking Marlboro Man type. I sincerely hope he was not just signed for prime time credentials. I hope they actually auditioned him with the people he will be in story with…and the chemistry was just that good. That would include Amelia Heinle, Jess Walton, Peter Bergman, etc. I was a fan of Miller and Tom. I even thought Ryan Brown from way back did a serviceable job in the role. But that was when Billy was just a nice kid. It was not much of a challenge for any blonde kid to step into the role. Now the character is a man, he has demons and is complex. He has gambling issues, alcohol issues, fidelity issues, and he has lost a child….but he also has to retain that little boy lost quality that women love to mother and take care of. Its a challenge. Let’s see what this new actor can do first before annihilating the message boards with hate.

Yeah, but if this guy can act I see him being more believable in being Jack’s brother and running a corporation AND going up against the “Mustache”. David Thom’s scenes with Eric Braeden were very awkward because of the huge age difference.

I would like to say thank you to Harry and Patrick for saying my post was well written. I do post on here a lot and though many of my posts are harsh critiques of GH and Ron’s writing, I am trying to sound less angry. LOL. Because at the end of the day I do realize that these are just entertainment diversions. But the show is in a tough Billy situation. When an actor as talented as Miller…fans can NOT expect him to stick around in the soap genre forever. We were lucky to have witnessed his talent during his amazing 5 year Emmy winning run. The show reached back to the past and got a very popular actor, Tom, who was the original Billy. Fans unable to let go of Miller and flooded complaints about Tom are likely responsible for his dismissal, but its done. Hopefully new Billy will click and the show can get on with Billy’s story. Personally I think if Victoria would have found out she was pregnant without the stereotypical who’s the daddy nonsense it would have been better. It would have given Billy and Victoria some true joy to play. That might have turned the tide but instead the writers chose the all misery all the time route. I love seeing happy couples and don’t find them boring at all.

I know Roz with all this show’s low points at the moment that Neil Hilary pairing has to be the lowest of the low. Watching the two characters profess their love to each other recently made me want to gag. Neil used to be a smart, mature man, but they turned him into a fool by this hook up with this baby. This pairing isn’t as creepy or sick as the Victor Sharon pairing a couple of years ago, but it is a close second.
Roz, the only thing I like about the Hilary and Neil storyline is it is making Lily look like a petulant monster throwing a tantrum.
On a completely different note–my absolute favorite storyline is Colin and Jill. They’re funny, romantic and sexy. I love the idea that the sexist couple in daytime are over the age of fifty.

I really wish they would have never let Billy Miller slip through their fingers. They should have allowed him to do outside projects the way they obviously allow others to do them.
As far as Burgess Jenkins goes, I have never heard of him before. I sure hope he brings on the Abbott charm, because that is one of the areas where David Tom was severely lacking. Most of us grew quickly tired of DT’s Billy being such a whiner and so unlikeable. But I guess only time will tell whether Burgess Jenkins will work out and please the fans.
Lastly, there are way too many changes on this show. Too many new faces. Y&R needs to try harder to keep the faces we’ve become familiar with. Y&R, are you listening?

Absolutely no chemistry with Amelia Heinlee but the writer could have just changed the storyline instead of firing him. I mean, a better storyline would be for him to fall in love with Chelsea and when Adam returns he finds the man that held him at gunpoint and tried to kill him is sleeping with his wife. David Tom has a boyish look and should have never been hired to play the part of Billy in the first place as Billy Miller was classy , handsome and mature looking. David Tom is a good actor but not in the role as Billy Abbott. Wish him continued success in any future roles he is hired for.

I am very sad to hear that DT has been replaced. No he wasn’t a good fit but on my honest opinion the fans never gave him a chance. No he wasn’t BM but he was giving it all he could. Once fans get use to a great actor/actress they want to keep the same pattern going if by chance they are let go or leave on their own recognizance. Don’t get me wrong I feel the same way however I do realize that you can never make everyone happy so I like to give fair chances. I really do wish DT well in what his next journey is.

With all the firings,recasts,departures and behind the scenes drama,the show has turned into a real life soap opera.
Not surprised. I just couldn’t connect with David Tom. Ratings have fallen. It was a big mistake to not keep Billy Miller. Nu Billy looks old. I think Jill Farren Phelps needs to be fired.
This is a huge mistake firing David Tom, what a joke Jill phelps needs to be fired right now. She is ruining the soap, she is a has been.
David Tom was the original billy, then they let him go. Michelle Stafford was smart to leave, the young and the restless. Whats next fire Cady Mcclain and Melody Thomas, they better not do that, or I will be pissed off. LOL. David did a good job as Billy. Now we will have another Billy, this is ridicoulos. Fans did to get over yet, Billy Miller will never come back as Billy boy Abbott. Rumor is Billy Miller will be the new Jason Quartermaine on General Hospital.

It must be heartbreaking to go back to your original role an not “click,” but things evolve on a soap in general, I remember years ago when Karen Lynn Gorney came back as Tara on All My Children, she seemed so harsh, Nancy Frangione (sp?) came in as a revelation. I wish Mr. Tom more roles, the message is “you can’t go home again.” To those like a Robin Stasser (Dorian, One Life) who were always able to, kudos, but there is something “better fit” now for Mr. Tom and hopefully with the new recast at Y&R, for its viewers.
I agree.I think one of the problems is that too much time had passed since David played Billy and the character has changed over the years too.Plus maybe the show should put some time between Billy Miller’s appearance on the show and David Tom’s first episode.They could have dragged Billy’s disappearance after the crash a bit longer and not have him return home right away.As for David Tom i think he did the best he could under the circumstances but he might see him leaving as a good thing too.Plus he may have learned a valuable lesson about trying to replace a popular actor in a role.
Andrew, you make a good point. I also agree they should not have had Tom step into the role right while Billy was in a crisis. I think this latest recast might work and it does, we can thank David Tom. He was the transition between Miller and this new actor and gave fans a chance to adjust to someone other than Miller playing Billy. Moreover, many Miller fans are going to irrationally resent Miller’s replacement blaming him for the departure of their beloved Miller. This latest recast is the third wife, so to speak. The new actor will be able to twist the lid off the jar because David Tom loosened it for him.
I also think the fans might give Burgess Jenkins more of a chance because he’s not directly replacing Billy Miller unlike David Tom.As for David Tom i think he may have gotten a raw deal because the show may have thrown him to the wolves right from the start.
Andrew, that is what I was trying to say, and I guess I failed in my efforts to do so. Tom did the dirty work. The first wife resents the hell out of the second wife but doesn’t pay attention to the third wife. David Tom is that second wife to many Miller fans. I know it’s not rational but that is how some rabid soap fans work.
Here’s an example: GH’s Tamara Braun as the second Carly triggered an incredibly rabid fan base ( I never quite got why). Then Carly has a breakdown and TB exits–enter an actress named Jenifer (her last name escapes me). She was at an incredible disadvantage for many reasons and the fan outcry was deafening. However, the actress did an amazing job. Despite this she was fired promptly Enter Laura Wright as Carly, and she was accepted by a majority of fans including Tamara’s fans. Had Jennifer not been the transitional actress between TB and LW, I don’t think the latter’s entrance would have been so readily accepted I think the aforementioned situation is applicable to the Billy Abbbtt recasts.
wow! and so continues y n r’s descant into a has been soap instead of the classy soapy show it once was. bill bell s show was steady and well known for having the most consistent cast of amazing actors! u now tune into a show where you don’t recognize any of the actors, you need a cheat sheet to keep up with the cast changes! every other scene takes place in the GCAC!.
On top of the musical chairs of actors, theres no balance of ‘ young ‘ characters to make this show truly ‘young and restless’ , bell use to balance between the young set and older veterans, now we get summer once a week, a highschooler turned cop, and fen once a month if we’re lucky!
the flat scenes are even more one note when accompanied by no background music, and if there is music it sounds like some crap from a made for tv movie! y n r once had riveting, complimentary and a heightened musical score that added to the scenes!! but no, now we get new, funky muzac!
Since billys not working out send him, Victoria , nukelly, kevin and phylis to return another day!
lets write for Michael, lauren, paul , nina, Christine, jill, the winters with Olivia , characters who we know with the actors we care about!
Hello pwtb? What on earth his going on over at yr? I was getting used to David Tom again. Now this dude? So obviously JFP went to bum to rehire him and gave a crap offer? Seriously this lady is tanking the show. Ridiculous! Bring back mm we don’t need to see 4 more recast this year because that’s how many there will have been. Phyllis , Billy (twice!!) , Kelly , and next Adam possibly unless JFP gets her head screwed back on straight or fire her. I’d go for the latter. She is tanking YR . Will miss David Tom . He deserved better than that from the show.

The problem with David Tom’s recast back in January was not that he is a bad actor, because IMO he isn’t, it’s because fans (like myself) had grown to love Billy Miller in the role. I’m sure if Y&R brought DT back as Billy in 2008, when they hired BM, he would still be on today and fans would love him.
This is ALL JFP’s doing. She didn’t allow Billy Miller the “outs” he wanted to do other projects, and brought back David Tom, assuming fans would immediately love him again. But it was 10 years since he was on the show, and Billy has changed a lot since then. DT just wasn’t doing it for me and for many fans.
I agree that he wasn’t given the chances he deserved to make the role his again because fans were still livid about BM leaving. The role was recast so soon, it didn’t give fans time to heal because the role of Billy is so important and integral. However, I can’t say I didn’t see this coming. I figured that Y&R would eventually fired DT because he wasn’t catching on the way they had hoped.
But who the hell is this new guy?! The only actor Y&R fans want playing Billy is Billy Miller, not Burgess Jenkins or anyone else. I will give him a chance, and hopefully he proves capable and suitable to replace Billy Miller, the way DT just wasn’t able to. I hate to say it but I’m not holding my breath.
It was not ALL JFP’s doing, as you wrote in your post.
The soap had worked with BM for years allowing him
time off for other projects. And BM worked with them, too,
renewing his contract for years, when he was feeling the
urge to quit completely for new things. But the most recent
renewal didnt happen because this time BM wanted just
more time off than the soap could handle writing for. After
all, how many “business trips” or whatever could Billy take
without fans saying Huh? Where is Billy going now? Not
to mention his absences affecting the character of Victoria,
etc. So the soap and BM had to just ultimately part ways.
I wish the best for DT in future roles, and hope the new actor
does well!
Plus maybe the show wanted Billy Miller to sign a mulit-year deal because they were tired of him possibly leaving each year and negotiating with him after each year.So in return for giving him outs to do other stuff they wanted something from him in return.
As for that Burgess Jenkins fella…I (also) am N-O-T holding my breath!!!!! No. Bottom Line Here: This has nothing but TOTAL DISASTER written all over it!!!!! TEAM BILLY MILLER FOREVER!!!!!

BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!! David Tom was absolutely TERRIBLE as Billy Abbott. I give the producers credit for realizing early on that this was not working out. He had absolutely no charisma, no presence, no chemistry with co-stars. Watching him “fight for Viggy” made me cringe. I applaud the move!
I love how everybody says they will give him a chance like everybody plus co-workers did David Tom what was that 60days?
Wishing David Thom well in his future endeavours. He had big shoes to fill and I was actually starting to adjust to him in the role. Maybe, no I should say actually, the person to be replaced should be JFP because her decisions are costing a lot of viewers to leave. Also welcome to Burgess Jenkins….I will give you a chance, but still think that Billy Miller “owned” the part and that only he will be accepted by the fans.
Replacing JFP would be harder than replacing Adam..
If JFP were gone who would take her place, or even want to take her place, that has the know-how of decades of soaps behind them..
Soap opera writers and EP etc, are hard to come by theses days..
No writers seem to want have the burden of the daily script writing, 30 characters to write for , and even the backlash from fans ..

You’ve diagnosed the problem correctly but not the cause. I’m not as sure that this is the case with the pool of executive producers, but I know that the talented writers with success in the soap field generally won’t work in it anymore because of the work environment created by TPTB (and several have said exactly that, on record)–they can’t write anything decent or interesting without TPTB wrecking it with their bad ideas. That’s how you end up with a Jean Passanante being hired over and over.
However, that’s not, I suspect, why JFP keeps her job. She and Steve Kent at Sony go way back, at least as far as her days at Santa Barbara; I had forgotten why his name was familiar, until I was looking at an old Santa Barbara clip on YouTube and saw his name in the credits. My bet is that she’s not going anywhere unless and until the ratings get so bad that they have no choice but to replace her. And she’s only been through one writing regime change so far; usually her ability to blame it all on the writers has kept her employed through at least three or four changes in the writing team, before the people above her stop buying that excuse.
Billy Miller was big shoes to fill. David Tom did not stand a chance from day one. He just didn’t fit in the part unfortunately for him. Also his acting skills were not up to the standards of the part he was to play, Don’t know he new person hired but I wish him well. Time will tell if the viewers accept him.
Wish they had cast Josh Kelly in the role, but still glad David Tom is gone he was not right for grown up Billy.
The perfect person to replace Billy Miller would have been Billy Magnuson, Casey from ATWT. His acting is very similar and also he resembles Billy Miller.
Wishing DT the best; but I just felt a real disconnect with his take on Billy. I’m glad to see someone else come in, but they better be darn good to keep up with the rest of the cast!
