CASTING BOMBSHELL: Thorsten Kaye Joins The Bold and the Beautiful as Ridge Forrester!

In a move no one saw coming, daytime favorite, and now former All My Children heartthrob, Thorsten Kaye (Ex-Zach) has joined the cast of CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful!  And that’s not all!  He has been cast as the new Ridge Forrester replacing the role played for 25 years by Ronn Moss!

According to TV Guide Magazine’s  Michael Logan, the deal happened quite fast including the fact that Kaye did not know that he was going to play Ridge before he accepted a role from B&B head honcho, Brad Bell!  Thorsten will hit the  the CBS soap as the recast Ridge on December 13th.   Kaye chatted with TVG on the surprise soap jump and more.  Here are a few key excerpts below!

Thorsten on finding out he would be playing the recast Ridge:  “I didn’t know what kind of character Mr. Bell wanted me to do but he sounded so confident that he and I could work well together and do something interesting that I just bought into it. He’s a great salesman! Then not more than 20 minutes before I got on the phone with you, I found out that I’m the new Ridge, who was a cornerstone of the show. [Laughs] So that’s a whole other can of worms, isn’t it? They needed someone to step up and I guess I’m the guy.”

Thorsten on what this means for him and Prospect Park’s All My Children:  “I don’t have a contract there anymore. It’s sad, you know? And I hope it all works out for them. But when you have a solid opportunity on a show that’s so highly regarded, you just gotta take it. [Laughs]”

Thorsten Kaye on if the status of  production of AMC season two had anything to do with his decision: “There are a lot of talented and caring people over there and I wish them all luck.  And I certainly hope that my leaving will not affect the show in some bad way.  There is just so much uncertainty in this business, especially in what we’ve been trying to do with AMC.  I do believe it’s going to work out for them, but I gotta be doing something.”

So soap fans, did you ever think of all people the recast for Ridge Forrester would be Thorsten Kaye?  What do you think about an on-screen triangle featuring Don Diamont, Katherine Kelly Lang and Thorsten Kaye? Are you upset that Thorsten will not be part of All My Children in the foreseeable future?  Do you think he made the right decision? What should AMC  do  now with the character of Zach Slater?  So many questions!  Sound off in the comment section below!

Wow! I don’t see him as Ridge but I’ll sure give it a chance. He had to take a job. I’m sorry he won’t be able to be part of the online version of AMC if it does go forward, even tho I wasn’t crazy about him in the online version (I loved him on the TV version; must have been the way it was written and/or directed). Doesn’t look good for AMC coming back, does it? Rats!

AMC will be back for season 2, no doubt of that ..

They should be in production by now but aren’t, everything’s gone quiet. Prospect Park are a joke, and I don’t believe they have any intentions of bringing either back.

Can’t blame him.. it was bound to happen. Looks like PP hasn’t been any upfront with the actors as they have the fans.

I agree, Thorsten is a sexy man, who happens to be a talented actor as well. I would have loved for him to remain with AMC, but I understand his decision for sure. I think he will do very well on B&B, and I really can see him playing the new Ridge working with Brooke, etc. Ron Moss has been gone long enough, and Thorsten will fit right in, I have no doubt about that, and as a bonus, he and Jacob Young will be working together again. Much good luck to you Thorsten!!!

makes me a bit worried about the future of AMC…. PP needs to step up and give the fans some news about what is going on with production and when we should be seeing the next season start. I have’ not watched B and B, looks like I will now. I don’t blame Thorsten at all for this.

No no thorsten needs a hair cut big time. he looks like a homeless man. he also needs a good shave. otherwise he is a very good looking man. He just needs s good make over.

I ADORE Thorson! Kept a photo for awhile..however, as a person in the fashion industry, I also agree he needs to CLEAN UP for the part of Ridge. I worked on ONE B&B – when I think Brooke worked for a catering company – not fond of her character! Ridge (with Thorsen) deserves better! I hope Stephie really rips the wedding apart and Hope realizes what a great guy Wyatt is! Hope LOST me again when she selfishly fired him!

I don’t blame him. Prospect Park does not seem to keep fans and cast in the loop of what is going on. Shame. I’m really going to miss those soaps. I don’t watch the soap he is going to but he made the right decision and wish him the best.

OMG!! what a shocker! i love thorsten and i love every character he has played in the soap genre – so sorry that amc is limbo but the bottom line is life goes on for the actors and needless to say they must do what they have to do……
i am looking forward to see what thorsten brings to the roll of ridge forrester – i know he will be fabulous!
just one last thought: thorsten kaye & don diamont are both two of the hottest mature actors in daytime……………….can’t wait to see what happens in december on b&b!

I agree! LOVE Thorsten Kaye and was a huge fan of his AMC work – and think he’ll be a much more sexy, rugged Ridge. Woo-hoo!!

I guess Zach and Kendal are never getting back together…i dont see amc or oltl coming back and if either one does itll be more of a reboot of the reboot with certain actors missing…and who will PP blame for that?

Great news. An actor with chops playing a key character. He’s even got a voice like Ridge/Ronn. Soaps are all about returns and recasts. Good luck Thorsten.

Would never have cast him as Ridge! Hope they have him get a haircut and a shave. I am sure KKL is happy! Someone new to seduce and get tangled up in the sheets with.

Exactly. People can’t seem to distinguish between the character and the real person. Geez, I hope Tom Hanks never Captains another boat. LOL

        October 16, 2013 at 7:18 pm

Glad to hear Thorsten Kaye will be back on the screen regularly. Love him and think he is great! Loved him as Zach and Patrick. Have never watched B&B, and do not know Ridge, but will start watching, and Thorsten will own the character for me since I have never seen it. Go get ’em TK! As you are a Red Wings fan, this is your power play – I know you will score a goal! 🙂

When AMC and OLTL first got off the ground earlier this year, they said that in the down time, the actors could do other projects. Well, AMC had alot of down time, maybe too much, and now TK’s contract has run out. What is he supposed to do? But I can’t say that this is the perfect role for him. He’s used to creating new roles on any show he works on, and this is a main character with alot of history and alot of fans. It won’t be easy, but I wish him well. I can’t worry about what this means for AMC because right now, there is no AMC, and respectfully, all the “we’re hard at work on the second season” quotes from unnamed sources for months on end won’t convince me of that. If it comes back, I hope AMC will say that Zach left town to be with his sons and his wife, whom he never stopped loving, and who is the reason he never took off his ring. Something like that will be just fine with me.

    • Chris

      October 16, 2013 at 1:21 pm

I agree AbbyS I hope that if AMC does come back that they explain where Zach is. I like your idea of him going off to find Kendall and the boys and they are together and working on putting their family back together again.

    October 16, 2013 at 4:47 am

Thorsten is talented and deserves to be working (as do the other AMC actors). I am happy for him but sad for AMC. Maybe this will cause PP to finally come forward with the truth about the “future” of AMC.

  15. No1_ILoveLucyFan

    October 16, 2013 at 4:51 am

Loved him as Zach on AMC – he brought a unique blend of sexy, smokey, sultry, danger to the show. Didn’t know he didn’t have a contract, but I can’t blame him for wanting to work – he’s too talented to sit on the sidelines. I hope AMC can get MEK back, or someone to fill the void & I wish him all the best on B&B.

  18. Bold

    October 16, 2013 at 5:44 am

I’m happy for him though I think for the world the charming Ronn Moss will always be the one and only Ridge. But as an actor Thorsten is much better and may give Ridge some more personality but honestly B&B has nothing to do with the show called the Bold and the Beautiful that once had so much elegance, glamour, style, wonderful dialogues, great sense of humour and interesting stories before it became a total joke which it has been for the last 5 years though Susan Flannery was able to keep up some of the shows long lost magic. Its golden years 1992-98 aren’t coming back. But until 2006 it was still a decent show. I’m sure I’m not the only one who turned off when Stephanie died.

    • Mark Y

      October 16, 2013 at 8:41 am

Really? B&B was a one character show for you?

    • Iakovos

      October 16, 2013 at 12:10 pm

B&B lost alot when it lost Stephanie and Susan Flannery. The endless Hope/Liam/Steffy triangle, not even told well, kept me away. And the missed opportunities to do something wonderful with Brooke — and Eric (tho not together, please!) after Stephanie’s death are lamentable. I am with Bold and miss the B&B that used to be. Maybe this casting — Thorsten Kaye is wonderful — will help reignite this moribund repetitive LA story. I would love to see a returning Ridge powerful and strong and maybe not needing Brooke after all.

  20. Mo

    October 16, 2013 at 6:12 am

Doesn’t he live in NY? Guess he’ll be commuting. Not a fan of this. Is he going to have an American accent? Now Thomas doesn’t look like his dad.

  21. Matt

    October 16, 2013 at 6:21 am

If TK is available to join B&B I guess that means he no longer has a contract with AMC? I think the folks at Prospect Park aren’t going to admit that they’ve cancelled production because it may invalidate their lawsuit against ABC. Good for TK, B&B needs some quality actors.

    • k/kay

      October 16, 2013 at 10:09 am

Matt supposedly his contract ended in June and B&B has had their eye on him so when he became available they grabbed him. I have always liked him I am still not sure about him as Ridge but who knows like I said I am still in the bathroom with Taylor!

In the interview he says he is not under contract to PP and that is a topic for another interview.

  22. Jules

    October 16, 2013 at 6:40 am

On one hand I think it’s an awesome choice, given his name and his acting range. In the soap community, he is one of the biggest gets out there, committed to his work and material, and with a huge fanbase of his own. But on the other, he is so opposite in nearly every way of RM, it might just be too different of a change. People in Europe who are diehards for this show and worship RM and Ridge, I believe, will have a much harder time adjusting to somebody like Thorsten. They don’t have the familiarity with him that the rest of us do, the trust we may have in him to do the job.

I know everybody is recastable (if that was a word) and the show must go on, and while I don’t necessarily disagree with the pick, I just don’t see it working long term for many reasons.

  23. CarolB

    October 16, 2013 at 6:44 am

I have to admit I didn’t start watching “Bold and the Beautiful” until AMC and OLTL was cancelled on television. I love B&B now and haven’t missed an episode, Thorsten Kaye will bring so much to the show as the character Ridge Forrester although Zach Slater I know will be sorely missed on AMC. I truly think Thorsten made the right choice to pursue and play this new part as I think he will be a perfect fit on B&B.

      October 16, 2013 at 6:22 pm

I turned to B&B after the cancellations. Plus, I just didn’t feel like going through all the trouble to try to get AMC and OLTL if it wasn’t on ABC at their regular time. Guess I’m a creature of habit. So since I don’t have a long time history of Ridge, look forward to seeing Thorsten fill the role. Huge loss for AMC. Boy, B&B really plays the love triangle for all it’s worth. Maybe they should learn from GH which is great right now, and turn the storyline over quicker. Still really miss OLTL. Have tried Y&R but it’s just not the same for me.

This one is indeed a head scratcher. I am still in the bathroom with Taylor so I doubt if I will see this because to be quite honest I am not up for two men fighting over Brooke Logan just we have been there and done that over & over.

  27. Shay

    October 16, 2013 at 7:16 am

Haven’t watched this belligerant Bell bomb for years, but I simply cannot envision the rough, rugged Kaye as the refined, recherche’ Ridge! Despite his regrettably-limited dramatic range, the indelible image of actor Ronn Moss will always loom large in the romantic rogue role….he emphatically embodied the exotic, elegant elder heir to the Forrester fashion empire! Thus, his “Ridge” will prove an almost impossible act for anyone to follow!

Every day we will here more and more about actors leaving Prospect Park … Josh Kelly, Thorsten Kaye.

I don’t see him as Ridge either, but to be honest I would watch him just read the phone book.

Maybe they can find someone besides Brooke to pair him with. I hope they don’t bring back Taylor, not a fan.

    • Mark Y

      October 16, 2013 at 8:47 am

I think Thorsten will morph Ridge into a tortured creative artist rather than Ronn’s buttoned up corporate CEO. So looking forward to this.

    • B.J.

      October 16, 2013 at 11:04 am

I agree with everything you said. TK’s quite a departure from stone faced RM, but I’ve never seen him in a role that I didn’t love. I may be forced to watch B&B again, after ten years or more away. 🙂

Who knows I might like it better without Taylor. 😉

      • Annie WIXSON

        October 16, 2013 at 1:39 pm

I agree with both you guys. Kaye is a wonderful actor. I always referred to Ronn as RIDGE the ROBOT. Kaye will at least give Ridge a personality. Please keep Brooke’s hands off him. Brooke & Bill truly deserve one another.

  30. Mary SF

    October 16, 2013 at 7:27 am

Actually I haven’t even miss the character Ridge on B&B– the character was hardly the cornerstone of the show– and now we have yet another triangle to contend with Brooke/Bill/ Ridge—yawn— don’t know this actors’ work but unless they write a half way decent story for him, I rather Ridge stay in Paris.

    • Patrick

      October 16, 2013 at 11:58 am

      I just SO “wish”

that Macy, Thorne, and whomever, Jon Hensley portrays on B&B

would return… front and center… to supplant Brooke/Bill/Ridge

these 2 trio’s would magnetic appeal SO much

  31. Claire

    October 16, 2013 at 7:36 am

Sad he won’t be apart of season 2 of AMC but the need for a job is certainly understandable. With him working in LA, makes me wonder where his wife, Susan Haskell, might turn up.

  32. Johnny

    October 16, 2013 at 7:50 am

  33. BTripp

    October 16, 2013 at 7:52 am

Good for him! I might have to start watching B&B now. If they keep adding to the cast they are going to have to make it an hour long soap. My question is will he be using his sexy accent? Ridge left town and comes back with a Scottish/British accent.

  34. Iakovos

    October 16, 2013 at 8:03 am

From a business sense this is smart casting. Kaye is a popular daytime commodity so B&B certainly hopes audiences from OLTL and AMC will follow. Kaye will bring something new to the Ridge Forrester character if writers allow him to play it. An edge, a ruggedness. I also hope reintroducing Ridge revives the Forrester family. As someone who watched “back in the day,” I miss the Forresters as a family and the class divide it had with the Logans. That is all gone now. I want to see more business and fashion and maybe some politics. I am tired of the Brooke Logan dramas. I am tired of the forced stories for the children and grandchildren. I say clean house and focus. And make LA — with its Hollywood bright lights and dark side of dreams — more in the atmosphere. give me a powerful matriarch to replace Stephanie, or in the case of Eric, a patriarch. As long as 50-somethings Brooke and Bil and others act like children, there is no gravitas in the storytelling. Kaye may be able to be that kind of character. A genuine force with integrity and wisdom and trust… if he can be a new Ridge Forrester.

Good news for the actor. Another indication that Prospect Park has not been upfront and honest with the fans and actors. If production is suppose to start this month, why doesn’t he have a contract with AMC? Doesn’t make any sense. When I see more and more actors from OLTL and now AMC, this makes me believe that Prospect Park have no plans to bring the shows back. Definitely not OLTL, maybe AMC, but will they have a lot of the same actors from Season 1. Actors are people too and this will be a good move for him as an actor, congrats!

    October 16, 2013 at 10:45 am

I respect Ron Moss but was never a fan of his “Ridge”. I believe Thorsten Kay will bring much needed attributes to the character an the show. His role in “Smash” playing opposite Angelica Houston was phenomenal. He has the acting chops necessary to take on this pivotal role. Looking forward to this change.

  47. Dara

    October 16, 2013 at 11:11 am

Thorsten is a very talented actor and he can make any role his own even one that has so much history behind it. I am sorry that his contract with AMC expired because of all the uncertainties of the PP production, however I am happy for Thorsten that he has found work and a lead role on a popular show. I have to admit I have tried to watch B&B on several occasions, but never became a fan, because I found the writing too much about musical chairs between couples and triangles….something I find distasteful and boring in a show. I will give it another chance because of Thorsten. I will not watch any revival AMC without Zach and Kendall or with any recast of either of the characters…. Thorsten Kaye and Alicia Minshew are the only Zendall for me. Their magic together is not replaceable.

I started watching B&B when the cancellations took place but honestly have never liked most of the characters, I thought they were all pretty shallow..I luv luv luv TK!!! I just hate the thought of him being with the icky skank Brooke…or
Budinsky Taylor…maybe his character will come back with a new lady & I mean lady…not a one tear drama queen like Brooke who justifies all her disgusting behaviours..but if I stuck it out with the horrible trio of Liam, Steffy & Hope, though I do like Hope…hope she leaves Liam for good..I will definitely watch TK..just because I think he is one of the hottest & most talented men of soaps..I’ll take him with the shadow & long hair any day over Ron Moss..

  48. PatF

    October 16, 2013 at 11:25 am

So we’ve found out over the past several years that bringing a “big name” from one soap doesn’t guarantee popularity on another.

I watched him on the reboot of AMC and wasn’t that impressed. Good actor, but he’s going to need a complete redo if he’s going to fit into that show.

The cast is very polished and has a certain look that this dude currently doesn’t have…yet. And he’ll have to try to make Ridge his own because for a lot of longtime viewers, that character is so established with Moss.

  49. richard

Brad Bell has done it yet again!!!! This is the casting bombshell of the year!!! Thorsten Kaye certainly shouldn’t blamed for wanting to provide for his family, as AMC’s future looks uncertain. I watched him on AMC, and he is a PHENOMENAL actor. After all these years, Ridge will have some depth to him. Nothing against Ronn Moss, and I loved the Brooke/Ridge/Taylor triangle, and will miss the flashbacks, but I really believe Brad Bell has some MAJOR story lined up if he’s waited this long to recast Ridge. I even believe he went to Ronn Moss and wanted him to return, but felt a recast is moving the show forward. That being said, Ridge’s return to LA will be firing on ALL cylinders for sure!!!! Brooke and Eric will certainly lash out at him for being absent when Stephanie’s death, and him and Brooke have a TON of unfinished business seeing as how he dumped her over a text on their honeymoon!!! This is SO exciting and can you imagine the look on Bill’s face when Ridge gets home???? Bill will for the first time, be quaking in his boots!!!! Katie said mouthful when she spoke of all of Brooke’s past weddings and her “destiny”. B&B is gonna be cant miss in 2014!!!! BRAVO!!!!!

I have to admit, Richard — you said it well. Brad Bell is a genius on so many levels. Thank God one daytime drama is still faithful to the landscape!

Now he needs to recast Steffy.

Cannot blame him for seeking employment on a popular Daytime Drama.
Unfortunately, even though PROSPECT PARK refuses to issue any statement whatsoever, the future doesn’t look too bright for the on-line version of
ALL MY CHILDREN. There hasn’t been any word on when or if Season 2 will go into production. I can live without Zach and the storyline between that character and the Leah character was about as compelling as watching paint dry. So, if they choose to recast the character of Zach, that’s fine, but none of us should hold our breath because, and I don’t mean to dwell on the negative, it seems doubtful at least at this time that there will even BE season two of ALL MY CHILDREN and I sincerely hope my thoughts
    are wrong.

    October 16, 2013 at 12:35 pm

Can this be the end of ALL MY CHILDREN?
Will Prospect Park ever issue a Statement regarding “Season 2” or were these
few On-line versions for a couple of months all we shall ever see?
I suspect that Prospect Park may not have the financial backing needed to
continue on with ALL MY CHILDREN, and they probably don’t want to give another
“we tried, we felt the timing was right, we wanted to…etc” kind of Speech.
At least the Fans can say we tried everything we could to give new life to
ALL MY CHILDREN ~ the brief re-visit to Pine Valley was nice while it lasted
but I don’t see it returning the way things are looking.

      AMC will return..
It is much the same as with ABC back when..
ABC could support one soap, not three..
PP can support one soap, not two..
AMC will be back and better, it may have the OLTL finances along with the AMC finances to bring one awesome soap..
AMC will return, and possibly more days a week 🙂

What is the point? AMC failed because it was a bad soap, ditto OLTL.

I guess that really, none of us really know what is going on with Season 2 of ALL MY CHILDREN except that they haven’t even started production yet, there is no production date, no air date, no actors signed, and no statement of any kind issued. How do they expect to sustain storyline continuity by doing things in this manner?

I think it’s great TK found work elsewhere. AMC stopped production 5 months ago. I am sure there is a bunch of stuff going on that fans and probably even cast/crew are not are not aware of. PP wants everyone to be patient, at least they could do is being upfront about what is going on. My guess PP ran out of money and that’s why the delay/letting TK get away. I expect more actors to be moving on.

  55. Michael (not Fairman)

    October 16, 2013 at 5:05 pm

Brad Bell sometimes makes very smart moves, and I think this is one of them. If Ronn Moss really isn’t coming back (and apparently he isn’t), and BB thinks Ridge is needed (and apparently he does), then an actor with range, screen presence, charisma, and talent at least has a level chance of making Ridge his own, though I know some will never see anybody but Ronn Moss in the role.

Can’t imagine why Thorsten wants to be mixed up in the dreadful mess that is B&B, even with the prospect of continued employment. (On the other hand, maybe, given TK’s stronger acting ability, BB will do something more interesting with Ridge than replay the same storyline over and over. Oh wait, this is BB; of course he won’t do that.)

Thorsten Kaye joining B&B and the new Ridge Forrester…W-O-W!!!!! HELL YEAH, BABY!!!!! BULLSEYE!!!!! Thorsten is gonna be a welcome (and much-needed) addition to the B&B cast. HOLLA!!!!! Hopefully, Thorsten will bring a much-needed REALISM to the character of Ridge. I know I know…back in the day (aka 1987), Ronn Moss originated the part. But, I always found Ronn Moss to be too pretty-boy-looking. In terms of rugged good looks and all, Thorsten will give Ridge a much-needed EDGE. And, besides, Thorsten Kaye is VERY, VERY SEXY AS HELL!!!!! One more time…HOLLA!!!!! Peace.

P.S. – At the beginning of my post (or whatever), I meant to put the word as in-between the words B&B and the. MY BAD!!!!! Again…Peace.

OK guys, now let’s discuss the confusing situation with Prospect Park. To lose an actor of Thorsten Kaye’s caliber is not good for AMC. Did they do their home work before launching the online versions? (Obviously not) Did they confer with Agnes Nixon? I feel for the actors of AMC and OLTL. To be jerked around this way after the mess with ABC is just horrible! PP get your —- together and be honest with your crew and the fans!

I am floored that Brad Bell chose this extraordinary talent. He’s voiced his due toward Ronn Moss, as a stunning man and core fore member –geez, RM was the first face on the first scene, and made the character his own.

ALL THE SAME — having thought I’d had no prior knowledge of Thorsten Kaye, and today having watched his clips from stage, film, and television, I am floored by his range ( a dozen characters with a dozen personalities, and I hadn’t recoginzied “TK” in any of them. He steps into the skin of a character as easily as anyone else steps into clothes. I wonder if not only B&B but all the soap genre will transform because of his talent. And as frivolous as it seems — his take in the 8 minute segment of Michelle Stafford’s “The Stafford Project” on Youtue this week — geez, it’s sheer genius. I’ve lived 20 years in France and would have never known the actor wasn’t French. Caricature, parody, whatever — pitch perfect. I’ve never seen such range.

      November 1, 2013 at 12:15 pm

I wish they would do the scene where he smashes the valet guy’s face in the windshield on the Stafford Project and have him as Ridge doing that to Bill gosh I was having lunch with a friend and they had B&B on in the restaurant and Bill and Brooke were on I almost lost my lunch. The character Bill needs a good butt kicking and who better then Ridge/Thorsten Kaye. I would pay money for that scene.

I don’t mind him vacating the role of Zach Slater but I think they should just write out the character for now on ALL MY CHILDREN, if the show comes back, and I realize that’s a tremendous “IF”.
It’s just that with Kendall Hart Slater not there, and now Zach Slater not there, well either write them out or I guess do a fresh re-cast.
I wish I could remain more positive but let’s try to be realistic here and say that right now, things don’t seem too encouraging to fans of ALL MY CHILDREN.

    October 18, 2013 at 4:46 am

While I will miss Zach Slater, more than words can say . . . I am a Thorsten Kaye fan. I have followed him from OLTL, to PC, to AMC and now I will follow him to B&B. I can only imagine how fans of B&B, Ronn Moss, and Ridge feel about this. Its VERY hard to accept a re-cast of a favorite character. Especially when the actor played the role for 25 years!! But I do hope those who are worried give TK a chance. He truly is an amazing actor and who really not hard to look at, at all. LOL!!

TK does bring with him an enormous fan base and I am sure they will all tune in to B&B. I have never watched B&B, but through SOD, I’ve always read the re-caps so I know who everyone is. I hope and pray they keep Ridge and Brooke a part and give TK’s version of Ridge a chance to find “new” love. No one does a slow burn romance like TK!!

    I’m SO happy!!

He won’t be able to replace Ridge. He looks more like Massimo Marone than did Ridge but I just can’t see him as Ridge and with Brooke. Have never watched AMC but have B&B since its beginning. I’m so glad Taylor is gone but can’t bear to see Hope with Liam. She’s much better with Wyatt. Guess I’ll just root for Brooke to stay with Bill, for Katie to be like she used to be, for Donna to get a personality, for Pam to move on since she has no purpose on the show, for Quinn to hook up with Eric, for Rick to stay with Caroline, for Maya to marry Carter, for Steffy to come back and be with Liam so he’ll leave Hope alone, and for Ronn Moss, the real Ridge, to come back one day and reunite with Brooke.

upset i am extemely kaye was my favorite. this tells me that the actors probably aren’t satisfied with their job at prospect park. they also, like their fans didn’t realize that it was not a real soap with 1 hour every day episodes guess they need a job full time and the fans want amc every day looks like thorsten kaye started something. hope the other amc actors are dedicated and want to see this online thing take off and please dedicated fans thank you loving all my children forever!!!!!!!!

I agree with most of above fan, Barbara’s, opinion. However, Ron Moss isn’t a man’s man…I NEVER liked him in that role. I mean come on…did anyone else think that purple scarf was off-putting? It was gay! And there’s nothing wrong with that, if you’re playing the role of a gay man!! I, for one, was happy when he left. As a longtime fan myself, I am thrilled that Ridge has been recast…yay!!! And in that spirit, I WISH they would recast Liam…I am SOOOO tired of the confused look on his face…does he have another expression. His growth as an actor since entering the B&B is marginal and he certainly doesn’t look cut from the cloth of Don Diamont, who may I add, is a HOT welcomed addition and much better suited for his role in the B&B than anything part he played in Y&R (except his gardener role…when he stayed half naked!). All I can say is “Go Brooke, Go Brooke”

This is exciting news, I always loved his roll on AMC. I could never figure out what all the fuss was about Ron Moss as the hunky Ridge Forester, he was too dull for that part, I’m sure this is going to kick it up several notches…

Thorsten has to be an improvement, the show has hit rock bottom so the only way is up. Words cannot describe how sick I am of seeing Kim Matula on my screen and the constant Hope love triangles we’ve now endured for three years. Love Thorsten Kaye but I’m also a fan of the character staying true to him/herself. “Ridge” is a smooth guy. Thorsten should shave and clean up his appearance. Until he does that, he won’t pull off Ridge like he should.

‘Strahan, Sara and Keke’ Canceled by ABC; Show Aired In Timeslot That Once Housed ‘All My Children’

No matter a network tries to do, replacing All My Children, which ran for 41 years on ABC has remained as everyone that follows the world of daytime drama knows, problematic.  Now come word via Page Six that Strahan, Sara and Keke has been canceled.

The show hosted by Michael Strahan, Sara Haines and Keke Palmer if you recall, replaced the foodie show, The Chew which ran for seven seasons and was the first show to air in the timeslot that belonged for over four decades to All My Children.

Back in March of this year, Strahan, Sara and Keke took a break to make way for ABC’s News  Pandemic: What You Need to Know, a daily coronavirus report anchored by Amy Robach, Dr. Jen Ashton and sometimes TJ Holmes.

However, because the show did well in that two-week experimental run it morphed into GMA 3: What You Need to Know.  The new version of the show also talked about hot topics in the current news cycle, as well.

ABC’s Catherine McKenzie began producing the “GMA3” show four months ago and the network officially announced her as Executive Producer of the program on Thursday.

While ABC has yet to officially announce Strahan, Sara and Keke is over, a spokesperson told Page Six: “We’re proud of our teams at ‘SSK’ and ‘GMA3’ and how quickly they transitioned to producing a daily show to give people the news and information they need during an unprecedented pandemic, and conversations continue about how the show will evolve in the months ahead.”

It appears that Strahan, Sara and Keke won’t be returning; the future as many of their staff have transitioned over to ‘GMA 3’ with producers from ABC News Live, (the streaming division), helmed by McKenzie.

As for the futures of Strahan, Haines and Palmer; Strahan will continues to host Good Morning America, and they are all actively under contract with the network.

So, what do you think of  ‘Strahan, Sara and Kek’e being replaced by ‘GMA 3: What You  Need to Know’?  How long do you think that show will last in the timeslot once taken up by residents of Pine Valley? Comment below.

Eva LaRue Talks On Her Daytime Emmy Nomination, And Opens Up About The Loss Of John Callahan

For Eva LaRue, the past two months have been some of the most emotionally gut-wrenching and challenging of her life, following the passing of her ex-husband, father of her child, and dearest friend, John Callahan (Ex-Edmund, All My Children). The outpouring of support she has received not only from her former AMC cast mates, but the soap world in general illustrates just how dear Eva is to all of us, and how many people had special memories of their time with John.

While mourning the loss of Callahan along with their daughter, Kaya, there was some heartwarming and re-affirming news that any actress would love to hear. Eva was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series for her work as Celeste Rosales on CBS’ The Young and the Restless, and she is great company as her former AMC co-star Michael E. Knight (Ex-Tad) is also nominated along with her for his work on General Hospital.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit our country and world hard, but through it All My Children virtual reunions emerged as fans were engaged by the content, transported to happier times that brought them back to familiar faces in Pine Valley in which Eva participated along with her good friends, Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos and so many more, thanks to the EW. com weeklong event which concluded on Friday.

Michael Fairman TV talked with Eva in this very candid, at times heartbreaking, and open conversation where she shares details into the final days of her beloved John, her last moments with him, and how she tried to plan a memorial in his honor during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For so many of us, 2020 has certainly seen more lows then highs, but in the end for Eva, to receive a nomination now (an award she was last nominated for back in 1997 as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Dr Maria Santos on All My Children) couldn’t have come at a better time. Here now is our conversation with Eva.

Photo: JPI

I’ve been thinking so much about you.  I’m glad we could do this, and in the midst of the tragedy of losing John Callahan, and then receiving a Daytime Emmy nomination.  What was your reaction when you learned you were nominated in a category with none other than your former AMC castmate and good friend, Michael E. Knight (Ex-Tad, AMC, now Martin, GH)?

EVA:  Oh, I know!  He’s the first person I texted!  I was like, “Congratulations, Michael!  Did you ever in a million years think that you and I would be in the same category of anything?”  Then I said, “And when you win this, can I just borrow it for the weekend just to dress it up and take pictures with it… just want to borrow it, just babysit the trophy for a weekend, please?” (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

What did you end up submitting that landed you the nomination for your role as Celeste on Y&R?

EVA: I submitted a scene with Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R), who I have been friends for 30 years, if not more, and in all that time we had never worked together.  I met him when I was married to John O’Hurley (Ex- Dr. James Grainger) because John was over at The Young and the Restless at the time.  I went to a Christmas party with John to Peter and Mariellen’s house, and do you know who else was there?  Lisa Rinna (Ex-Billie, Days), and it was before she had gotten Days of Our Lives. She was dating Peter Barton (Ex-Scott Grainger, Y&R) at the time. We both ended up on soaps at the same time.  So, I submitted a scene with Peter, who is amazing, warm and open and such a great actor. Then I submitted a scene with my on-screen daughter Sasha Calle (Lola, Y&R) – I love that girl, and another one with Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R) who has also been my great friend for a couple of decades. The other scene I put on my reel was with me and Jordi Vilasuso (Rey, Y&R) who I also adore.  He is awesome and such a sweetheart.  I only had two months worth of material to draw upon.  So, I just submitted the scenes that I liked the best, and they all were within story, and all made sense.

Photo: Getty Images

Where is Celeste supposed to be now?

EVA:  She went back to Florida, and that was that. I would never say never to anything, but it was always supposed to be a short stint, and it was great.

So not only is it you and Michael E. Knight, but Jeffery Vincent Parise, Chrishell Stause, and Elissa Kapneck. This Guest Performer category is loaded!

EVA:  I know! I know and love, Chrishell (Ex-Amanda) because we worked together on All My Children, too, right before I left, and she is a doll.  She just might be the sweetest, kindest, girl on the planet.  She literally might be the sweetest person who ever lived!  I don’t know the other two nominees personally.  So, I’m excited for them too.  It’s such a diverse category.  It’s just really fun to be nominated with all of them.

Photo: Hallmark Channel

You were nominated before, though, for your work as Maria on All My Chldren during the emotional baby switch storyline; working opposite Susan Lucci (Ex-Erica) for a lot in it.

EVA:  Yes.  I was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for All My Children, and I was nominated for Best Original Song.  I wrote a song when Maria came ‘back from the dead’ to All My Children, with a producer friend of mine from Miami Sound Machine.

Photo: Live with Kelly Ryan

So, you’ve been doing all of these All My Children virtual reunions, which is so interesting that in this pandemic, people are looking for content, and they dip back into these beloved shows.  Was it fun doing the Santos Family reunion with everybody?

EVA:  Oh yeah, it was really, really fun.  I only saw in the big picture everybody else’s photo who was a part of it, and the people who I actually do hang out with the most, and see the most, and talk to the most, are Kelly Ripa (Ex-Hayley), Mark Consuelos (Ex-Mateo), and Sydney Penny (Ex-Julia).  I don’t see Sydney as much, but I do see her probably once every two years at least, but Sarah Michelle Geller (ExKendall) I see all the time and talk to all the time.  Kelly, Mark, and Sarah are the ones who walked me through that first week when John Callahan passed.  They literally were on the phone with me, the three of them, almost every day, but I got beautiful outreach, from what seemed like everyone.  This is when no matter how many years have passed since you have been in daytime, that the daytime family as a group – there used to be fifteen shows, now there are four – and people have bounced around and they are on other shows- – but the entire soap opera community reached out,   I cannot even tell you how much that meant to me.  It was overwhelming, and it was really, spectacularly beautiful.

Photo: JPI

I hope it was some solace to you knowing how much people loved John, and also that they love and care so deeply for you.

EVA:  I mean, people who did not even work with John reached out.  Every soap was represented by getting a hold of me, sending a text or a phone call, or if they didn’t have my personal information, they tweeted, or whatever it was… literally from every reach of soapdom.  It was amazing.

And your relationship with John was amazing with all of the ups and downs you went through; that you remained such dear friends.

EVA:  We remained really great friends all the way.

Photo: JPI

I so remember when the two of you first got together and it was this storybook real life soap couple romance.  John was always so sweet to me.  I was so, so sad, and you know, my heart just broke for you.

EVA:  I think it was just such a shock.  I don’t think anybody, and even Kaya were talking about it, because she graduated this week, and her dad is not here.  We’re not having a graduation, because of COVID-19, which sucks on top of it, but we were just kind of talking through the feelings of it.  She said, “You know what’s weird?  I guess I never pictured dad getting old, and I always wondered why, and now I know.”  When I would get on John about his heart or his health, he used to always say, ‘Oh, don’t worry Evala, (he always called me “Evala”).  I’m going to be here.  I’m going to be here a long time.  I’m fine.  I’m going to be here to walk Kaya down the aisle and see her kids and all that.  Stop worrying,” Every time he said it to me, something in my gut said, “I don’t think he is.  I don’t think he is,” but I always just dismissed that.  But never in my wildest dreams did I think John wouldn’t make it to her high school graduation.  He was only 66.

I had heard you ended up running to Palm Springs to be near John.  I can’t even imagine what that must have been like.

EVA:  The only good thing about this pandemic is that we had been shut down for only two weeks at that point.  Kaya and I got in the car.  John had some heart procedures the day before, on a Thursday.  I called him in the morning before he went in for the procedure.  I said, “Call me as soon as you get out of there.  Call me as soon as you come-to again, and you’re good,” and he said, “Okay, I will.”  I said, “I’m going to send Kaya out to you on Friday for the weekend, just so you have somebody to hang out and watch you, and I might come out too,” And then, I said, “Maybe, I’ll come down too in case you are feeling weak, just to watch out for you for the weekend.”   So, he called me after the procedure.   I said, “I cannot believe they sent you home! You just had some major heart stuff done.”  He said, “Oh no, they said I’m fine.  It was just run-of-the-mill heart stuff, angiogram…”  I was like, “Are you sure?”  He said, “Yeah, I’m fine.  I’m just tired.  I’m going to go to sleep.”  I said, “Do you want me to send Kaya out tonight?” and he was like, “No, no, no.  Send her tomorrow.”  So, in the morning, I called him at 9:00am.  No answer.  I texted him.  He always texted me like Johnny on the spot, and then texts me immediately back.  So, I call him again at 10.  Nothing.  His best friend calls me about a half-hour later, “Hey, I talked to John at about 8:00 this morning.  He said he was feeling really, really shitty and was going to go back to the hospital, and then, I texted him again at like 8:30 to just tell him something, and he hasn’t texted me back, and he always texts me immediately back.”  I said, “Oh my, God, I’ve been trying to get a hold of him for two hours; he hasn’t texted me back,”   I said, “You know what, I’ll call you back.”  So, I called his friend who lives down the street from John, and I said, “Go to his house, please right this second, knock on the door, jump the fence, knock on his bedroom, he might be asleep, I don’t know.”  So, he gets there, nobody is answering.  I said, “Break into the house please.  So, he did, and John was collapsed in the bathroom.  They called the paramedics, and as soon as they called me back and said, “John is unresponsive in the bathroom,” Kaya and I threw everything in the car, and what usually takes us two and a half hours without traffic, we made it down there from Los Angeles in an hour and forty-five minutes.

I don’t know how you made it down there in one piece. Thank, God!

EVA:  I drove so fast, like literally broke all land speed records and thank God because we got there just in time.  He was in emergency.  He hadn’t been put up in ICU yet, where we wouldn’t have been able to see him.  They weren’t going to let us in the hospital.  Thank God the person answering the door was an All My Children fan.  She was the one saying, “Sorry, no one is allowed in the hospital, no one can come in,” and I was like, “No, no, no, my ex-husband just came in.”  She said, “Was it Edmund?” and I said, “Yes, it was Edmund!”  She said, “Okay, follow me.”  Thank God for All My Children.  Thank God.  So, we followed this woman secretly, and we get to spend a half-hour with him in Emergency.  He was already on life-support, totally unresponsive, but we got to play John his favorite music, we got to just sit there and hold his hand and talk to him, and tell him how much we loved him.  Sarah Michelle Gellar called right when we were in the hospital in Emergency, and she said, “Put the phone by his ear,” so I put the phone by his ear, and she talked to John too, and she told him how much she loved him.  She used to always call him “GP”, which was short of grandpa, because she came on the show when she was 15, and she didn’t have a dad, and John acted like a dad to her – but she used to always call him “grandpa”, and he hated “grandpa”, so he was like, “You can call me “GP”, but not grandpa,” so she always called him GP.  I just put the phone by John’s ear, and what was crazy is that when she talked to him, his feet started twitching.  He started moving his feet.  Then, when Kaya was talking to him about Yankee season, he started moving his feet.  We were kind of hopeful that something was changing for the better.  We had about a half-hour with him, and then, they took him up to ICU, and then, we knew we couldn’t see him again.  They called us later that night that he had passed.

I am just so thankful that you got to see John one last time.

EVA:  I thank God every day that we got to say goodbye, because if we hadn’t gotten there in time to say goodbye, I just don’t know.

It’s very rare that a couple after a divorce, who have a child, and went from romance to dear friends, end up maintaining that relationship so many years later in their lives.  I know so many people who were together at one point in their lives, for years, and they don’t even talk to each other now.

EVA:  Well, you know, like any divorce, the first four years afterwards were super contentious but then, by year five, we kind of had this major breakthrough, and from then on, he was one of my closest friends, and one of the things we always kept alive for each other was we loved to  dance together. We fell in love, I think, dancing because originally our characters on AMC met at this country-western bar, and we had to take country line dancing lessons on the show.  They hired a choreographer for us so that during those scenes where we were falling in love, we would actually be able to do a two-step! So, we went out and practiced at Denim and Diamonds, which was a big country-western place in New York City at the time.  We used to go out with a whole group of us.  It was me, and Teresa Blake (Ex-Gloria) and Kelly Ripa, and her boyfriend at the time, Winsor Harmon (Ex-Del), sometimes Walt Willey (Ex-Jack); we just had a whole crew of us who would go out country dancing.  John and I also loved singing together.  He had the most amazing gravely kind of rockstar voice, but his real talent was harmonizing.  He could harmonize to anything.  So, when he would come over, we would sit in the kitchen and sing, and sing, and sing until the late hours because that’s what we loved to do, and that’s what he loved to do.  That’s one of my favorite last memories of us.  He was just over the month before, and Kaya’s bedroom is near the kitchen, so she came out and was like, “Can you two shut up?”  It was like two in the morning and we were still singing in the kitchen. (Laughs)  John was my dear friend and my confidant.

Were you able to have some kind of service during this stay-at-home pandemic we are all dealing with, in order to mourn the loss of John?

EVA:  It’s been so crazy.  We couldn’t even have a funeral.  That’s what made it all the more heartbreaking.  There were less than twenty of us, and we just got on a Zoom call and memorialized John.   I thought we were going to do a big Zoom memorial, but it seemed so overwhelming and so impersonal, it just was rubbing us wrong in every way.  Every way we were looking at it, we were like, “Oh my, God, we just can’t.”  We wanted to invite everybody he had ever worked with, and we were like, “No, we want to do that when everything can open back up again, and invite every person, and have a party” because John was always the life of every party.  Maybe we can do that in the fall or next year.  I kept trying to write something for the small memorial we did do for three days.  I kept coming back to this one song, because John was always the consummate bartender, too.  I sang a song that Bette Midler sang on the very last episode of Johnny Carson.  It was “One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)” and it’s about a bartender who has got a big personality and a lot to say.   I changed some of the words around a bit just to reflect who John was, and so, I ended up singing for it instead of speaking.  We always talked about that last episode of Carson; how stunningly emotional it was when Bette sang that song to kind of sing Johnny off for of all of his years on the air.  So, that’s what I did and because we loved to sing together, it just made sense.

I do think you touched upon something, earlier, too.  I don’t think any other genre would have that kind of unbridled camaraderie.  It’s such a family, like you said.  I don’t think you would find that quite like this; certainly in show business.

EVA:  I really don’t think you can. Even though there is always a good amount of competition in the soaps as well; between the soaps it’s like they are any sports team, but there is always a level of respect, love, and familial connection within the community.  I think that is why they have stood the test of time.  I really do think that is what hooks our audience, that is what keeps them there after all of these years, even though unfortunately the genre is antiquated looking, there is something about it that is nostalgic, familial, and comfortable for people.

Every time I talk about All My Children, why do you think everybody go ga-ga for it, when it’s been off the air for several years now?

EVA:  It speaks to people’s childhoods.  It speaks to how we grew up.  You can’t undo nostalgia.  You can’t.  It’s in the way we grew up, the things we loved, the things that we scheduled our lives around, the people we fell in love with on the shows that we watched, who we cared about and loved their storylines. I grew up watching All My Children, General Hospital, and Days of Our Lives.

It must have been a spectacular moment for you when you realized you were actually in Pine Valley and a member of the cast of All My Children then?

EVA:  It was amazing.  I was a fan when I got the show.  I was a straight up fan.  I fangirled walking through that dressing room hallway for the first time! I was trying to keep it in check, but you know … (Laughs)

So, in closing, you would say, “Thrilled to be nominated”?

EVA:  Yes.  So fun.  It has really been a rollercoaster of a couple of months here.  That nomination was literally the bright, shining spot in all of this.
