CBS Joins Forces with Black-Owned NuTime Media to Generate National Ad Sales for ‘The Gates’
Soap fans are eagerly awaiting the first new daytime soap opera in over 25 years when The Gates is set to premiere early next year on CBS.
Now in partnership with CBS Media Ventures, Black-owned sales company, NuTime Media is onboard to help sell national ad opportunities for the new soap, which has as its center a story about a wealthy Black family living in an upscale gated community.
Previously, NuTime struck a partnership with CBS in March of 2021 to represent many of the other CBS Media Ventures shows to advertisers.

In a statement, Morris McWilliams, executive at NuTime Media, shared with Variety, “We are thrilled to add The Gates to our portfolio of products. A daytime drama of this kind has not been on broadcast television in over 35 years, and we are certain it will fill that void and have positive appeal with African American audiences.”
As previously reported, Michele Val Jean serves as the creator, writer and showrunner of the series. Val Jean has a long history in daytime, having written for the soap operas: General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Santa Barbara.
Michele is also one of the executive producers of The Gates along with Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner.
The unique content partnership of The Gates brings together CBS Studios, the NAACP and P&G Studios, a division of Procter and Gamble, who also has a history of soap opera television productions including: As the World Turns, Edge of Night, and Guiding Light.
So, glad to know that CBS and NuTime Media are actively looking for national advertisers to support ‘The Gates?’ Comment below.
This is fantastic. It’ll be nice seeing different advertisements during the airing. Less about Mesothelioma and less of those annoying Jardiance commercials, and more of something that’ll be worth while.
Finally The Talk was cancelled. Nice to see the support for a soap but still unhappy with P&G and CBS for abandoning ATWT and GL many years ago. Maybe The Gates will get better treatment but do not bet on it!
The Talk last episode, will air in December. I hope The Gates is a big hit. They need big soap stars and good ratings for it to survive. According to insiders if The Gates is a hit, chances are more soaps will be in the future.

As previously reported, kicking off today, is a two-part Beyond the Gates, when The Duprees gather to celebrate Banneker University’s homecoming weekend.
The producers and writers are taking an opportunity to spotlight the rich traditions of the long-held tradition of attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through its fictional university.

BANNEKER REFLECTS THE IMPORTANCE OF HBCUS
Sheila Duckworth, (executive producer, Beyond the Gates) spoke to Soaps.com to give some insight on the decision for the series to illustrate the ties that bind with HBCUs.
“It was important that we have this school as almost a character on our canvas, right from the beginning. Beyond even education, HBCUs have been pivotal when it comes to everything from economic progression and fostering a sense of community to the development of leadership skills,” explained Ducksworth. “From the beginning, we wanted to illustrate that what the Duprees are able to do in the world was a direct reflection of the impact HBCU’s have in real life.”
EVERYTHING HAS ITS PURPOSE
The EP talked about how purposeful the elements that integrate Banneker into the overall story of Beyond the Gates are including: the Dupree family door knocker that is a lion, the mascot for the fictional university, plus, the upcoming fight song that the cast will sing together on the Monday, October 5 episode, and the painting the hangs at Fairmont Crest.
That portrait of Vernon Dupree’s (Clifton Davis) father, George Cheeks Dupree, that hangs prominently at the country club, was named after CBS executive George Cheeks (now Chairman of TV and Media, Paramount), and as Ducksworth says of the legacy of Vernon’s father, “He was the architect of Fairmont Crest.”
So, are you looking forward to these episodes honoring HBCU traditions with the Dupree and the Richardson clans? What surprises do you think might be in store come next week? Let us know via the comment section below.
