Clarification on Days of our Lives Rumors

Tuesday morning, daytime fans and those of NBC’s Days of our Lives woke up to an article run by TV Line that raised major concerns for them,  Contained with it was a report that revealed that the entire cast has been released from their contracts and the show is going on an indefinite hiatus.

However, Soap Opera Digest has spoken to a few key setside sources, who have clarified the situation further: “The show is currently taping eight months ahead of air, and that has resulted in the show’s pickup possibly coming after it has wrapped production for the current season.”

Another reveals that negotiations are currently underway to continue the iconic NBC soap citing: “NBC and Sony are in negotiations right now and everyone is hopeful.”

Of note from SOD: the cast has been aware of the brought-to-light break in production and hiatus for months now.  The article also shares that production is said to most likely resume in early 2020’s following the holidays.

Chandler Massey who plays Will Horton tweeted during the firestorm on social media: “We’re not being cancelled. We are pausing production because we are so far ahead of schedule (and it saves us $). Days will still air during the entire hiatus, so you won’t miss anything!”

In addition, the series is receiving much buzz right now due to the groundbreaking (for daytime soaps), time-jump, which has already generated excitement for what’s to come in on the series in the days and months ahead.  Now is a great time to see what has happened to the lives of those you love to love and love to hate in Salem.

Days is being cancelled, rumor is Nick cannon new talk show will replace Days. R.I.P.

I hope that is not true, because that would really stink Who cares about a Nick Cannon talk show? ‍♀️We have enough talk shows. ‍♀️

Tru Dat!

So you are a psychic and can see into the future! Did you make the same prediction during past negotiations between Days and NBC?

TROLL

Troll, you need to have several seats, time out for you. You are mean mean mean, Susan banks will set you straight. Be kind to people on this site, no need to be snippy to Ally.

No they said the same thing last year about the Kelly Clarkson show It all worked out NBC knows we need Days in our lives

I love my days of our lives keep the hour glass running

Dee time for Days to die, the time jump is terrible. Just cancel Days, end its misery.

the show is in such a great place right now hope we have many days to come

Most likely, contract negotiations will likely take more than two months. An interesting idea, could everyone be recurring?

In this age of budget cuts and with the advanced shooting schedule, this was bound to happen. 8 months ahead in shooting is not sustainable, especially when the 3 other soaps can get things on in weeks. There’s no leeway in adjusting for storylines that aren’t working.

As an incentive for reduced salaries, perhaps a modified work schedule could be implemented, with either more hiatuses or fewer episodes taped in a week.

If they’ve already shot episodes through August 2020, don’t look for them to roll again until April or so.

This is my thought on what’s happening…

Because DOOL was taping shows 6 to 8 months ahead of their airing, they are taking this opportunity to get on a schedule like all the other soaps, which is 4 to 5 weeks. Filming so far in advance, they were unable to remedy their mistakes, and there were many, soon enough!

Right now, I have no doubt that they will be back!

Ron Carlivati started upset by tweeting “Welcome to Oz (the iconic HBO show) with a pic of Ben and Will in the same prison cell. And we all know what happened to male inmates there. I guess he thought it was cute, but people took the opportunity to melt down over the TV Line article instead of being amused. Personally I see this one of three ways. 1) The show is cancelled.
2) They return with a smaller budget, actor pay cuts, smaller cast; and continue the multi months breaks.
3) They do as they did with Passions. But instead of searching for a new home Days becomes a part of their streaming Universal Peacock service April 2020, exclusively, to boost subscribers while freeing up NBC time slot on national TV.
I personally think option 3 is where this is heading. I’m 95% sure.

Also. If they go with option 3 and entice nearly 2 million subscribers to their streaming service for DAYS alone, there’s a strong possibility Days would be around to celebrate it’s 60th in 5 years. Most certainly it would be renewed beyond 2020. All depends on the cost; I doubt the cast would exit enmasse.

If they move it to streaming. I am DONE! I’m sick to death of all this technology that I hate and cannot afford! If I can’t watch it on my TV it’s over for me and I’ll bet a lot of other seniors on fixed income!!! SO THERE!!

Hypothetically. It would still have to be ad supported. But it’s a better option than cancellation. Years ago, when Passions left NBC for Direct TV I watched the final NBC episode and that was that. No way was I about to add a satellite dish on top of my cable bill, or opt out of cable to switch for one soap opera. #Hassle. I would however subscribe to this streaming service if and only if it’s my only option to watch Days. Had Direct TV Now been around back then I would have subscribed to it. I’m a huge fan of streaming services and all their quirky programming but that’s me. But I do get your point. Just have to wait till their first quarter of next year to see what decision is made. Happy Holidays!

The only reason I watch NBC is Days. I used to watch the Voice before they fired Adam Levine, but not anymore. If anything happens to Days I will never watch anything from them again.

You can’t do this. So many fans love this show and have been watching it for so long. Please reconsider.

2 million fans arent enough.

Few shows have 2 millions loyal fans at this point, especially with intergenerational loyalty over decades. The truth is that viewing numbers are down for almost every single show on every single channel, no exaggeration. Its the same with movies. This is not a failing of the soaps, but more about the industry and society (they have made tv packages and movies too expensive, people have to work more and arent home during the day, you often cant stream the same day, political views in the content alienated some viewers, etc).

We watch faithfully everyday. Love Days of Our Lives. Liking the time jump, I think! Can’t wait to get the answers to why people are where they are.

I’ve never watched it but I hate for another Soap to be cancelled. Nothing better on TV than Soaps!! Hope rumors of retaping again esrly in year is true.

I think its the deathknell if everyone’s contract is truly cancelled. That means actors can go seek work anywhere else and no one is going to stick around on a sinking ship. After all these actors, production staff still have mortgages and bills to pay. I cant imagine NBC letting Days come back with the same production schedule which puts the show at such a competitive disadvantage to the other soaps and we are looking at possibly weeks of impeachment hearings further eroding the audience. They can get the same band for the buck with a talk show which can be put together on a shoe string. Unless something happens I just dont see how the show makes it.

It would really be upsetting to me, if Days went off the air. I have watched this show for so many years. It would be like part of day was missing.

The only good thing would be;
RC might return to GH ..
Outside of that, no, soap should ever be cancelled..
Nonetheless- I do not see Days being cancelled.
Most likely it will be revamped.

For many viewers, RC returning to GH would not be a good thing. O’Connor just started and the initial results are promising.

There would be absolutely NOTHING good about ReRon returning to GH. It’s bad enough they’re still stuck with his former partner in show destruction, Frank Valentini.

This is upsetting intel considering such a successful Day of Days event this past weekend. Perhaps if #NBCUniversal was smart and learned to monetize the event, they would invest in the show more consistently. How I would have loved to purchase some #dool swag but none was offered.

Love the “jump”….presents new material..can’t wait til tomorrow….
Hope all the rumors are just that…

Don’t do it NBC. No more talk shows, they are mostly very boring. Keep our hour glass flowing.

Gosh, I’m on the fence. First and foremost it would be terribly @hitty of NBC/Sony and a disservice…decades of love, family, and fan affinity/affection to go out this way…Without a proper “Thank You for watching & loving us all The Days of our Lives”…meaning writing and character plot tear jerker moments and bring the series to an end with dignity.

Having been through this on the corporate business level (save bottom line production dollar$)…I never believe anything verbatim, as fact, or concretely definitive. Things change on a dime.

And, story, story, story. It’s in the writing. The genre has needed new blood for decades. Ah, get your acts together Y&R, B&B, GH….make us, laugh, make us cry, make us care! Stop writing down to the audience. Make us think, look up words, challenge us.

Positive thoughts and energy.

It needs more than new blood at this point. It needs to be re thought and resurrected. Why are there so many successful night time and cable soaps while daytime is floundering. You cant have the same model that has existed since the 1950’s and expect it to work.

Primetime and cable shows get cancelled at the drop of a dime. There are no shows that have lasted decades like daytime soaps have. I can’t tell you how many fantastic cable and/or primetime shows (in my opinion) that have been canceled after just one season or two seasons. So, in actuality, it’s daytime who had the secret formula to longevity.

It’ rather a different era; women work, not as many younger women watch (which is the demographic advertisers want and effects renewal/cancellation). I really don’t think daytime, no matter what they do, will have the ratings to keep them on TV much longer. The only shot I see is if they can move them to a streaming service…which Days has recently tried with the Chad and Abby story. Not sure how successful that was in term of viewership.

The audience for “new words” isn’t there in daytime soaps. Many don’t understand what they’re watching now! Some didn’t understand the time jump…literally didn’t know they were watching the year later the show is presently in, were confused by the flashbacks and were lost. Complained it was “stupid.” Over on GH, some didn’t know a character, Sonny, killed a man even though it was repeated over and over for months in dialogue. So, I think “challenging” creative, thought-provoking doesn’t fly with this audience. Seems like anything beyond “love in the afternoon” gets criticized, misunderstood or wasted.

Feelings; yes. Alway need characters to feel for for, root for, couples to adore. I’m loving Days but I hated that they killed off Stefan. Thought he and Gabi were great together…though I heard Brandon’s coming back (if there’s something to come back to)…since it was reported he was filming. So we’ll see him in the next eight months? Maybe we’ll find out he was saved and Rolf did some switch?? and IF the show is renewed they could “write” the wrong of killing him off…

I think the future of the show IS in jeopardy; hoping it gets renewed. Doubtful but hopeful.

Don’t cancel Days, stay on NBC. That’s the only soap I watch and have for years. I remember when Bo and Hope got together, and so many others, so please DON’T CANCEL.
We definitely don’t need no more talk shows.
THANKS

I hope the show returns. Releasing everyone means when the show is picked up, people might not be available.

Days is so good. The best of the three I watch. Although I don’t like that Adrienne is dead. Let’s hope not.

I have watched Days since I was 16,I am now 69, seldom missing an episode. I do hope that it will continue. The only way I would stop watching is if it didn’t exist anymore. It was on my bucketlist to visit the studio where it is filmed. The only time that I was in Ca. the sets were being moved so I didn’t get the tour.

GH will be next! These networks could care less about loyalty. If they have something cheaper, the will move forward. CBS will hold onto to their two soaps a bit longer because of ratings. Daytime is DEAD! I dont watch DAYS but for its fans, I hope it hangs on in 2020!

Let us all resume your favorite program in 3 months…

Are you THE Andrew Masset, the one and only “Larry Welch”? I’d love to see another long-term return of Larry! “Bozo” is no longer around, but Rafe is a real clown.

One and the same…Thanks..Would be fun…again.

Although touted as groundbreaking this time jump made me nervous. Most soaps have a year story board, and I wondered if Days didn’t just jump ahead to get ready for a wind down story line. This “break” gives them time to write it and by the time the already filmed episodes run, the farewell stories will be ready to go.

If this is the plan, of course the suits don’t want fans to know it yet because it will give them too long to react and make noise about the cancellation. More than likely the cancellation will not be announced until almost last moment.

We have all known for years, the last four soaps days were numbered in their present format. A leap to the web, or limited showings on a streaming service possible, but a daily show, going for the whole year, each year on network is coming to an end. If NBC does pull the plug on Days as a daily show on network– then the other networks will follow their lead soon after.

So, even if this isn’t a prelude to a cancellation in 2021, it will only be a matter of time when the rumors will be true. Where there is smoke, there is fire– so this might be an outright cancellation, yet– but when they used to be 6 months ahead, to now being 8 months ahead, and the story line suddenly jumps a year, and everyone is on hiatus for a prolong amount time and contracts are up for renewal– that’s a lot of smoke folks.

As a fan of the show since the 1970s, this news hit me like hearing a friend had a terminal disease. You hope for the best and for a miracle cure. It is sad to think these “friends” would not be a part of my day. I have loved Hope, Bo, Marlena, Roman (Wayne Northrup), Jennifer, Frankie, Alice, and Tom like they were sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles.

I know when “All My Children” left the airwaves, I felt the same way. But, I didn’t have the 40 years invested in that show like I have had with “DOOL.” My first remembrance of the show was when Addie died. I loved Chris and Amanda, Neil and Liz, Doug and Julie, Maggie and Mickie. I also loved Laura Horton though all of the actress changes.

The time off will hopefully give the show time not to “relaunch,” but make the writing, stories and future more believable. Although I think Ron C. has done some great work with the show, I also think most recently that he has jumped the shark. There have been way too many doppelgänger storylines (Marlena/Hattie, Adrienne/Bonnie), too many back-from-the-dead storylines with no emotional impact. It is almost like the citizens of Salem have become so immune to seeing dead people walking around, they no longer flinch.

The eight-month filming ahead schedule has done more damage than anything. This fact is the reason the writers didn’t realize how much Gabi and Stefan would become a super couple. It has also been a huge loss to have Chad and Abby leave. They have carried the show since Alison Sweeney departed.

I hope the future gives us a more realistic view of life in Salem. Write a decent storyline for Marlena and John and stop having them celebrating their love with parties, vow renewals, anniversaries every few months. Stop bringing old storylines back like Princess Gina, Hattie, Bonnie, Kayla/Justin, Vivian, etc. Move forward. The show needs to stop with the obsession with Stefano. The actor is dead and no one will ever replace Joe M.

Cheers to many more Christmas gatherings around the Horton tree.

You are right about Joseph M. They can call this NEW character Stefano, John Doe or Santa Clause, but there was only one Stefano DiMera , and he’s gone. Even Dr. Rolf can’t resurrect him! Joe, at least didn’t get to see the mess they have and are making of our beloved show. I bet Dr.and Mrs. Horton are flipping in their graves.

I am a faithful days watcher and have been for years the time jump just don’t work for me but if that is what they have to do so be it I am just 1 person I sure hope that the show goes on for many more years

Lord have mercy! How I hate it when rumors are unsubstantiated. That is why I depend on Michael Fairman’s site, so I get the facts. I’m not ready to attend another daytime soap funeral until the fat lady chokes her last note.

This show has more drama in real than its soap opera. They regurgitate storylines more frequently than the other three ( B&B does too). If a person is cut from the show, they are back before we know it. I think this news is a publicity stunt to rile the fans up so that the “powers to be” renew their contract. Watch this show makes me feel like a yo-yo plus 11/12/19 episode they had a man to appear to be Stefano sitting in a chair smoking a cigar. DOOL. you can’t resurrect an actor that is deceased.

No, you can’t resurrect an actor, but will they be able to save this show. They have about killed it. I can’t figure out if it’s a farce or a joke, but seriously at the end of todays show, seeing Lani and Kristen as Nuns, blew me away. I laughed so hard, I started choking .There sat Sister Stupid and the other killer Nun. Do convents or wherever they are just accept anyone without question? Can we really believe what we are seeing? I am giving it one more week, and I am through.

Filming eight months in advance is way too far. I remember when they had the Belle recast who was awful. It was realized pretty much as soon as she started airing, but because they shot so far in advance we had to suffer through many painful months before Martha started airing.

Thank God it’s not getting cancelled.Ive been watching for 53 years.

Hoping they will renew Days, all I can do, hope. All the negativity though, buzz off trolls!!!

I don’t like this time jump. You don’t know what is going on with no one. And Stefano is dead in real life. Why bring him back. Plus why would Will killed Sony’s mom that don’t make any sense! And Princess Gina can go to away all I care. And Lani and Kristin being nuns get real that is so dumb. And poor JJ on drugs. He was doing so good with his job. Why would you do all the stuff this so won’t help your rating. You will probably loss people. This is the only soap opera I watch. But maybe not now.

I know a lot about soaps. Followed them for 35 years and this does not look good! Remember “Days of Our Lives” is only contracted by NBC to air until the end of Sept., 2020. NBC decides in early 2020 if they will renew it. It doesn’t look good. The cast has had their contracts torn up, the set will be sitting there empty and the actors will need money so they have to work some where. Believe me the network won’t say anything in case there is a backlash, but the writing is on the wall. I am so sad by this. Just prepare yourselves fans.

I love days of our lives but I’m not into this crazy stuff that’s going on right now
