Crystal Chappell Posts Blog After Communicating with Melissa Reeves on Chick-fil-A Twitter Controversy!
145
Well…I loved this post. Sometimes things are not as black and white as they seem. I do agree, Melissa should clarify.
I think MISSY REEVES ADULTERESS IS BACK PEDALLING NOW AND SHOULD DO DO SO ALL THE WAY BACK TO NASHVILLE!
Too bad Crystal Chappell needed to throw a hat in the ring for Reeves, she dug her own hole, and the fact SHE is not actively responding shows exactly where she stands.
wow… judge much?
Amen–Reeves knew full well what she was supporting and now she’s backtracking after the fallout.I will NEVER watch any program with her in it or purchase any products she endorses.I’m sick of the hatred toward gay people, all they want is equal rights.
This doesn’t bode well for one’s character. issues, that intentionally divide the people.. because groups created apart from the constitution, decide propaganda, to steer from my truth… is not conquering.
You don’t know anything about Missy Reeves. How do you know she doesn’t have a friend who owns a Chick-Fil-a and she was simply supporting her friend’s livelihood? Missy does not need to clarify herself, because no matter what she says, SOMEBODY is going to take offense. If she aligns herself with the LGBT, her CHRISTIAN fans will be mad. Don’t you get it? She never should have made that tweet, but now that it’s done, there is nothing she can say that will please EVERYBODY. Stop expecting everybody to have the same opinion on everything.
Oh, Maddie, stop inventing things like imaginary friends who own Chick-fil-as! Thing is, she didn’t have to align herself with ANYONE. She could have kept quiet. No one would have known.
She made the comment. She is a public figure and accountable for her words and the fallout. All the “judging” “judge much” comments that get thrown around when people voice their opinions confuses me. Where was this stupid womans good judgement when she tweeted to her fanbase? She knew exactly what she was doing, come on. Its called collaboration. She put supported Chick-Fil-A and their hateful values by using her celebrity. People did that during WWII too, and they have been tried as Nazi-Collaborators or contributors. Different era. Different celebrity. Same hate.
I’m beginning to think that the definition that some people use for the word “tolerance” is that means we have to agree with their point of view, otherwise you’re called all sorts of names to shame you into accepting the point of view, or at least into silence.
If we look at the actual definition it is “the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.”
So, folks, how about starting to be tolerant of people like Missy Reeves instead of bullying them into silence?
Bullying them into silence?????? She sent the tweet out and was quite proud…remember the ;? Why can’t we respond in kind? She’d rather shut down her twitter account then be on the record about this? She then throws more bible quotes at us. Sorry, but your argument falls flat.
I agree with you Robbyrob !!
Why should Missy have to defend herself at all? They’re her beliefs, you don’t agree with them, and she doesn’t have to answer to anyone for them. I am a gay Christian man, and I am honestly repulsed by the ugliness and the vitriol of the gay community because someone says that they don’t believe what they believe. What is really sad is that the gay community is letting this issue define them. The self-righteous ugliness that is being spewed is only polarizing people more. I would be more outraged about gay brothers and sisters in other countries being slaughtered… Read more »
If we look at the actual definition it is “the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with…. TOLERANCE.
The Ability or Willingness. which tells me… we know what is good, in our hearts.. we are born this way…. and propaganda… testing one’s faith… is willingness to evil.
@Jim, you’re pointing fingers and lumping ALL gay people together. As a gay person this is the LAST thing you should be doing — and as a Christian you should know that the words and actions of one are NOT the words and actions of ALL. Do you not know you are doing what you accuse others of? Are you more Christian than gay? I wonder why you can’t balance the two? Worst of all, do you not know that people posting here have repeatedly expressed concern about gays being killed in other countries. We CANNOT protest in foreign countries,… Read more »
Bravo! Some people need to look in the mirror.
Maddie, you FIRST!
nothing harder, Jim, than being a gay Christian, lol, of course, I know where your FIRST loyalty lies, and that is to Christ and your fellow believers. I know somebody like you (it might even BE you! lol), and he supported Chick-fil-A. If this boycott succeeded, “they” would start coming after every other Christian, this is nothing less than religious persecution (especially once the Mayors of major cities started throwing their weight around). We have to stand up to the “bullies”. I believe that is what Melissa was trying to do, as well.
No, Maddy, my loyalty first lies in calling stuff out for what it is. There’s enough hypocrisy on both sides of this controversy and there’s more than enough narrow minded bigotry and hate to go around. The fact is that the media has been persecuting Christians for years in TV and in film. It’s “chic” to do that. They are portrayed as bigoted, ignorant and clueless. Where’s the same treatment of Muslims? Where’s the gay outrage for a religion that believes that gay men should actually be killed. Where’s the outrage directed at the Council of Islamic Relations? Where’s the… Read more »
@Jim:
your words: Beautiful. All parties accepted.
I refuse to accept any group who would work to stifle free speech in this country because that means we’re moving toward communism. We have the freedom of speech in this country, but that does not give us the right to smear, berate or hate anyone into silence because they take a view that is not what I want to hear.
Gosh Jim I’m so happy to finally hear someone who has something sensible to say on this topic. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Everyone wants “tolerance” toward them but aren’t willing to extend it to others who disagree with them. This attitude is pervasive across almost all topics, races, creeds throughout this country. What’s happening to us? Missy’s opinions are just that, her opinions. The attacks, name calling and publicity that ensued are ridiculous IMO. Thanks for standing up and speaking your mind.
Everyone wants “tolerance” toward them but aren’t willing to extend it to others who disagree with them.
i liken this to give and take. A meeting of the minds… affords us so much more together, than apart.
per·va·sive/pərˈvāsiv/Adjective: (esp. of an unwelcome influence or physical effect) Spreading widely throughout an area or a group of people.
This attitude is pervasive across almost all topics, races, creeds throughout this country
and this is because of groups funded by … and/or religion. Individuals, and persons are thinking for themselves. CELEBRATE BIPARTISAN.
too late.
I hope that America soon becomes “ok” with gay marriage. It became legal in July of 2005 here in Canada, and our country has not suffered because of it. In fact, it has made our country more united. I hope that America can soon find the same acceptance.
Cheers.
Amen.
All for one… and one for all.
Unite.
The difference, isn’t compromised.
I think this kind of dialogue between people is exactly the kind of good that comes out of the negative, so I’m quite happy. I knew that Scott Reeves, Melissa Reeves, Steve Burton, and his wife, and a handful of other soap stars are (or at least were) conservative Christians. Some, like Burton and Austin Peck started out being really vocal about it and have since focused on the work and, in my opinion, lightened up, and others have been fired for pushing their beliefs on anyone who would listen on set or in the press (I remember it happening… Read more »
So you think MR is a “mindless drone”? Yikes. That sounds almost as bad as calling her a “bigot”. Oh well, I won’t argue with you on that, but mindless or not, MR should have spoken for HERSELF. She believes in Free Speech, after all.
No, I don’t think that AT ALL. I was trying to say that when we jump when we hear these calls to action from commentators on TV, or activist groups or whatever (whether liberal or conservative) so many of us rush to sign petitions, or tweet out our feelings, comments on boards, or tell all of our friends on Facebook or at church or our neighbors about this horrible thing we’ve just heard that is happening. We’ve ALL done it–gone into what I call “mindless drone” mode–when we emotionally react to facts we’ve been given, without checking to see if… Read more »
The whole chick-fil-a bull isn’t about free speech,it’s about gay people having equal rights to get married and have the same benefits as straight married couples do.The whole “free speech” thing is just a way to twist the facts.I wonder how many people would be supporting chick-fil-a if the owner came out in support of Jerry Sandusky or the guy that shot everyone in the movie theater in Colorado–that would be free speech too right?
Very well said!! We’ve all spoken before knowing all the facts about something and I believe that’s what Missy did but I don’t believe for a minute she was intentionally trying to hurt anyone or that she’s a bully. I’ve met her and Scott and they are both very lovely, down to earth people and had she known all the facts, she probably wouldn’t have posted her tweet quite so exuberantly. I honestly didn’t know what all the fuss was about with Chick-Fil-A until I started reading about it myself — honestly, I thought it was about free speech and… Read more »
Crystal Chappelle… came to her aid… Lord knows… there are times… that i’d want that… from a total stranger… A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS… you don’t have to be alone in your thoughts. it all gets so jumbled… stir crazy… an anxiety that’s unneccessary. listening to your heart…. and not letting propoganda that’s MISleading the constitution that we ALL live by. IN ALL DUE RESPECT. helping each other clarify and expand your mind.
Very well said. *applause*
Mike T, it is about free speech, just as much as any person in this country giving money to a cause is also free speech. It is your right to free speech to not financially support Chik Fil A, or to make bogus innuendo associations to the owner of Chik Fil A to the shooter in Colorado or Jerry Sandusky to make your point.
Oh Jim, the more you post the more you give yourself away. Your right wing views are disturbing — esp for a person who says he is gay. It was NEVER about Free Speech, Huckabee suggested that the conservatives use this to shield themselves. No one has denied Cathy, CFA or their “followers” the right to speak freely. Cathy funnels monies through the CFA Foundation to groups like FRC that seek to deny gays/lesbians rights — and JIM, THAT INCLUDES YOU! (Sorry for the caps, but I wanted to get your full attention).
BEBR13 Again, another common sense, level headed response. There IS some sanity in all this. I fully agree, I don’t believe Missy Reeves was aware of the full implications of CFA’s actions. I don’t believe most of us did. Great insight.
implicationsplural of im·pli·ca·tion (Noun)Noun: 1.The conclusion that can be drawn from something, although it is not explicitly stated.
2.A likely consequence of something: “political implications”.
correct me if i’m reaching here…. what with regard to Greg Rikkart… The FRC/CFA actions… would like nothing more than to denounce him.
making all people aware of the FULL IMPLICATIONS… of the shared traditional values moral justifications? I acknowledge GR’s intuition and Spirit. That’s shared insight.
There IS some sanity on both sides of the spectrum.
Chick -fil -A had a wonderful strategy, look at all the business they got after the fact……..That was one of the best business tactics I have seen in years. He should be commended for all his efforts……..Other business’s may follow suite, we’ll have to see.
Strategy. open-ended. I do not commend his efforts to dehumanize our people.
Thank goodness Hitler did not have a chicken farm.
Disaapointed in Crystal., covering for a friend. What both are saying does not add up if you look at Reeves’ later Twitter comments. Now that Jack is gone, I hope they write her out. The actress has a primadonna history and has not brought anything to any storyline of late. Hey, but what I am saying is just free speech, right Missy?
Really your judemental person, who does right to speak your opinion, but hoping she written the show, his straight childless.
Days Fan, you have no valid argument so you’re engaging in character assassination. Stay classy.
As classy as you? Attacking people and their opinion? Yeah, right.
Melissa sent that tweet out so she can certainly clear the air…is she THAT upset?? I give credit to Chappell for digging deep and finding out some answers. I just seriously doubt Reeves didn’t know the full truth of what she was tweeting about. She was pretty direct with what she said….why can’t she issue a response? Even her husband Scott has been silent too…and he’s got out boss’ at GH. Days was enjoying great press in regards to the Will storyline and then this hit the fan. While I appreciate Crystal looking into this, I would have hoped Reeves… Read more »
Go crystal way to stand up for missy reeves and tell what missy real intention was. You are upstanding woman and actress. And unlike greg rikkart you handled like a mature. Adult and concern friend. Her speaking the truth from her heart and cause a rage piranha to come after her and her family.
It is Missy’s place to clear her name if she feels she has done something wrong, not CP. That would be the mature response. I think everyone on both sides are acting ridiculous because their own agendas and beliefs are not met by everyone else. Let individuals believe what the hell they want. Right or wrong they don’t answer to you or me or anyone for that matter. Everyone needs to be more tolerant even when disagreeing. It is OK to have differences in opinion.
Why can’t Melissa do that herself? She hides behind her always present bible quotes. Free speech goes both ways. Rikkart did a great job in presenting his views and was quite mature. What he doesn’t have a heart? Your in la la land.
Well, I am not sure I can believe Melissa. I do not know her personally. So I can only try to understand from actions or lack thereof. I get that she may have been clueless as to what exactly she was supporting with that tweet. What I do not get is the blocking of people who tweeted her respectfully (yes, I am one of them). Furthermore, people who have supported and interviewed her a lot over the last decades have been blocked. That to me was very ostrich-like and ignorant. And taking that into account, I can believe that Melissa… Read more »
The key is that CC, who HAS known MR for years as a PERSON, not a celebrity, can make that judgement and is sharing that with us. While I’d like MR to stand up for herself and clarify, I think she’s genuinely shell shocked by what’s gone down. Not everyone has been trying to educate her. There have been crazies (who are either unhinged or just like stirring the pot, whether they care about gay rights or not) who have threatened her. She’s not a Twitter pro. I say let it rest for a bit and trust a woman, CC,… Read more »
MR shouldn’t need anyone to apologize for her.
True. I have read some nasty tweets towards her and her family. But all in all, most tweets I have seen were respectful. Of course some trolls used the storm to stir up trouble but that could have happened after a post about the shining sun.
And I think MR is in the business long enough to know there’d be a reaction. Good or not.
Matt is right. If she felt an apology was needed she should have had the balls and done it herself. (Afterall she may have missed people when she called her friends)
Jenny, Melissa does not have to answer to you or anyone, nor should anyone expect the same with you. She is not a bigot or a bully because she does not believe the same way that you do, or say the things you think she should say, or respond the way that you think you. You are not the queen of the universe, so quit acting like she owes you anything. She owes you zip.
Bwahaha *adjusts crown*
Back atcha. Get over yourself. I never expected her to react to *me*. Just react. And she chose silence. How is anyone supposed to believe (in) her when we only have her tweet and non-reaction afterwards. I agree with previous posters if she indeed felt that strongly she could have said something publically. Plus she is in the business long enough she could have known that a reaction would follow. Good or bad.
Jenny, I totally agree.
Mis-Tweeting doesn’t exactly add up with actual tweet: “Chick-fil-A today!!!! Loved every bite of it;)!! Land of the free and home of the brave. Love that we all appreciate free speech, right?” But oh well, no use making this about Melissa Reeves (I would hate to see her play the victim) when it’s the ISSUES that matter. In the end, MR is just a small part and the real problem(s) is just so much bigger. I’m sick of hearing about MR’s tweet; the issues should get this much coverage! Maybe that would HELP to make a difference in a world/society… Read more »
Words and actions have consequences.I believe her twitter post was both cryptic and incendiary. If Melissa was comfortable voicing, what she believes was her support of freedom of speech, then Melissa should have the courage to speak on her own behalf in regards to her twitter post. Additionally, she should also explain why she chose to block followers, specifically those (i.e. Greg Rikaart amongst several) who respectfully questioned the meaning behind her tweet. Furthermore, since this fiasco she has also opted to privatize her twitter feed. This is not time for silence.
Really, Manny? Are you part of the ranks of the easily offended? Twitter is a free service. Just like you, she has the right to block or privatize her account just like you, and she does not have to answer to you or anybody.
If she truly believes in Free Speech, then MR did the exact opposite by blocking posters who disagreed with her and then closing her account instead of doing the Christian thing and apologizing. She treated her fans horribly after the tweet; the tweet she posted to Candace Cameron (yes, Kirk’s sister) was almost unforgivable as it made light of what she had done. I cannot imagine anyone — esp a Christian — laughing about hurting people by saying she had lost a lot of fans and having a good laugh with Candace. Religion has been damaged and hijacked by politics,… Read more »
I never for one minute thought Missy was supporting hate groups or an anti gay groups. I found her tweet completely harmless. However, I did find the tweets to her extreme bullying and disgusting. As to Mr Riikart’s blog I found it passive aggressive in it’s bullying. Who is Greg Riikart to expect Missy to respond to him? “I reached out” garbage. As to Miss Chappell, Missy DID follow up her original tweet when the hate came her way with an explanation that she was supporting free speech. But she was called a liar by twitter respondents and Mr Riikart… Read more »
Thank you. I love this post.
Who is being a bully now? and quite disrespectful.
Really? I’m sure Missy Ms Chappell’s friend appreciates her dragging it up again…and I’d hardly call that being a bully. There were no death threats involved. Maybe you should check with people who are bullied and then comment.
@Anne.
Maybe you should check with people who are bullied and then comment.
“bullied” comes in many forms and wrought emotion can potentally do more harm than good. it’s setting us all backward.
God Bless us all.
Nice Anne….STFU really adds to the conversation. How about Reeves being an obnoxious religious bully?
It’s called frustration at dragging it up over and over. Missy has explained herself. She doesn’t need to be constantly going over it for her so called friend or some guy she doesn’t know. You obviously didn’t read all of her tweets. You obviously have no idea about her and have just jumped on the band wagon to bash and bully Missy. Nice one yourself.
Who’s doing the bullying Robby? If you don’t like what she has to say delete her tweet, unfollow her or turn the freaking channel. Bullying, intolerance and bigotry cuts both ways. If you want to hop onto the angry victim bandwagon, go right ahead, that’s your right, but people like you are turning this into an electronic witch hunt smacks of McCarthyism.
Missy should have reached out and responded BECAUSE she believes in Free Speech. If that is the case and she was just supporting free speech, why WOULDN’T she put her words where her Chick-fil-a chicken sandwich was and exercise her right to freedom of speech? Saying you believe in freedom of speech and then saying NOTHING is kind of “defeafening”.
OMG SHE DID she explained it FREE SPEECH she tweeted it more than once. AND lets face it you guys have someone to beat up and pick on over this it wouldn’t matter what she said or did now no one would believe her. She would be condemned for using the gay community and the issues to get herself a name. She’s gone quietly it should be left alone.
@Anne.
AND lets face it you guys have someone to beat up and pick on over this it wouldn’t matter what she said or did now no one would believe her.
That is so far from the truth…. when, issues, are publicized.. and we have this opportunity to voice our opinions… just as you share, and we all share, the platform to vocalize the debate… i will never believe that the gay community would ostracize, ANYONE.
@Anne. Passive-aggessive bullying? is that why we have all these groups…under the guise of “shared traditional values”. badgering one’s will. I’m not in your face.. misleading you into anything more than equality.
Do you deliberately misread and misinterpret everything you read ? I referred to Greg Riikarts’ blog ONLY as passive aggressive bullying not the real problem of hate groups and their nastiness. Seriously, Missy Reeves is not the problem…and picking on her because of a misguided tweet is not the answer. please don’t assume what I think about equality. I’m sure you wouldn’t even believe me if I told you.
@Anne.
please don’t assume what I think about equality. I’m sure you wouldn’t even believe me if I told you.
who’s calling the kettle black…. etc… that is a passive-aggressive statement… as well.
No one. has outright… said they don’t not understand… what these blogs are about. There’s no confusion here about right and wrong.
I will happily share what I believe… and I respectfully do not discount or doubt your ideals.
@Anne, MR did NOT explain anything. CC had to come out and try to do it for her. Are you following the same story as everyone else? BTW she DID tweet Kirk Cameron’s sister after her original Free Speech tweet, saying I”ve lost a lot of fans and “laughing” about it. Guess she didn’t really care that much.
I found her tweet completely harmless. 1. Stuns me… that anyone would expect this. Her TWEET(s). To diminish or give so little regard to people. Who is Greg Riikart to expect Missy to respond to him? “I reached out” garbage. 2. My ideals may not merit your wisdom… be that as it may… selective verbage…ie: pray for the sinner: being gay is a sin. she was called a liar by twitter respondents and Mr Riikart himself suggested she was trying to cover her backside after the fact 3. operative word: suggested. implies leading to believe. Neither GR or MR… have… Read more »
The only bully in this story is Greg R. Why does he feel the need to question a fellow actor on her support for a company? The folks who scream the loudest about tollerance are the most intollerant when it comes to Christians. Too bad Mellisa feels the need to backtrack now that her so called friends in the entertainment business decided she is a bad person for defending what she believe as a CHRISTIAN. She is not advocating homosexuals be beaten up and killed. Goodness let the woman be. If Greg R. is so pro gay why has he… Read more »
You’re calling Greg a BULLY?! LOL You are so wrong to try to OUT anyone. This is an example of WHY people are SO outraged by MR’s stupid TWEET!!! Just wrong and shows what people are really like. That is just very, very SAD 🙁
Actually, she is advocating for gays to be beaten up and killed. She is supporting a company that knowingly donated a portion of profits to an organization that lobbied for Uganda’s “kill the gays” bill to proceed without any US govt. agency interference. That company’s money goes to SPLC designated hate groups that are no different in their “tolerance” for LGBTs than the KKK is of people of color.
Please stop spreading that rubbish. That is patently untrue. FRC opposed one SENTENCE in the bill, the part that said “gay sex acts are a universally recognized human right”. It is half-truths and outright LIES like this that make your “side” look foolish.
Bullpucky. FRC did not want the resolution to pass. Period. Peter Spriggs has said as much on the radio. The way they went about stopping it was objecting to that sentence and lobbying the House of Reps. that are more friendly to having their ears bent for their dollars. The bill is now likely permanently stalled. Or how do you like these FRC directly quoted “half-truths”: From FRC pamphlet entitled “Homosexual Activists Work to Normalize Sex with Boys”: One of the primary goals of the homosexual rights movement is to abolish all age of consent laws and to eventually recognize… Read more »
AdG, I do not pretend to be as knowledgeable about the gay movement as you are. But I did support FRC in the ’80s, and there IS a group called NAMBLA (North American Man-Boy Love Association) that was accepted by the gay community and participated in gay-pride parades with them. This group is the group the FRC pamphlet was deriding, I’m pretty sure. Their mantra is “sex by 8 before it’s too late!” and some of their members were responsible for the deaths of children. LGBT has since denounced them, but they do exist.
Deb, Does supporting the gay community mean your gay? You certainly gave your 2 cents here by commenting didn’t you? What you don’t understand is that the money given by this company helps finance laws aimed at stripping gays of basic rights. If you choose not to see this, then by all means continue shouting that everyone in this is a bully but your heroine Melissa herself. Christians always quote the bible in demeaning gays and not giving them basic rights. Love how you pray for us always. God loves us but not what we do in our own bedrooms…huh???… Read more »
I am playing NICE here and just asking a question, 🙂 but I am interested as to why Greg Rikaart’s sexuality needs to be defined for the public? Isn’t it enough that maybe he believes so strongly in this topic that he is defending the gay community and possibly his gay friends? I could touch on your other points (which I agree with what you said, by the way), but I just want to know why one has to make public their sexuality when they are outspoken on a subject.
Christine, you agree with her? I followed your posts before 🙁 Tolerance benefits all people, everyone is tolerated at some point (even in their daily lives), but no one will or should tolerate any group (be it Christians or whomever) or business that seeks to actively harm them. You wouldn’t be tolerant of a group that targeted Christians or Blacks (at least, I hope not.) We would never have expected the Jews to tolerate Hitler, would we? It really is that simple (logically) and dire (consequentially).
@ Christine, thanks for clarifying. See, if MR had done that how much better the outcome would have been? You ARE doing the Christian thing, and I DO appreciate that. I have no ill-will towards Christians, although I am a spiritualist myself.
JSUK: Coming out is a very personal decision and no one should be taunting anyone about coming out of the closet. Doing so is one of the complaints with bulling, in instances gay people were “forced” out and the results were devastating. Please try to understand what “tolerance” means, we all tolerate others UNLESS the person(s) or groups are doing something to harm us (Christians should not ask for tolerance for businesses funding hate groups or Christians who fund such groups, no one should tolerate the potential damage to another group of people, the end result of that would truly… Read more »
Matt what I agree with in deb’s post was that Melissa Reeves should just be left alone. As much as I love Greg Rikaart, maybe he should have not said anything. To me, it is just not so black and white. I see shades of gray. I think maybe he should have stopped at the Tweet that he sent to her, seeing he didn’t get a response and let it be. It’s also 2012 and our country has become more and more outspoken. Agree to disagree. However, I do NOT believe this thing with Melissa Reeves was all about “free… Read more »
it’s not like melissa Reeves is a sacrificial lamb… an open forum.. however, heated… is debate for humanity… civil rights given due process. I could argue, that tolerance, that’s been bandied about by americans alike… and that, the next step… for equal footing, to mass with.
Tolerance… ie: if you will…. Gay Hysteria….
For Extremists…. Gay Hysteria… we do not condone the acts by lone individuals who propagate less than equal.
Hold on…while I agree Greg was bullish in his public attack on Missy I don’t agree it means he’s gay. Either way it’s his own business and that should never have been commented on. Many of my friends are gay and lesbian, some are coupled up and some aren’t, some want the right to marry and some don’t care. I support whatever makes them happy, it does not mean I’m gay. What is wrong is to send death threats to someone who may or may not agree with you.
Wow, Anne, I actually agree with your post 100%. Scary, isn’t it?! LOL I also think death threats are wrong. No one should have made death threats or any threats of any kind to MR.
BTW I hate that CC had to speak for MR when if it really mattered that much (to MR) she could have spoke for herself. Fans would have appreciated that. If you truly “mis-tweeted” why wouldn’t you just SAY SO? CC, please let MR and others fight their own battles, don’t damage your own standing for a person like MR who says she believes in Free Speech and then refuses to SPEAK when she “claims” she was misunderstood. What’s so hard to understand about Chick-fil-a giving money to groups that target gays when they could be giving that money to… Read more »
If Missy supports “freespeech” then she should speak up for herself unfortunately at this point it may be to little too late. She could at still say she is sorry that her tweet was miscontrued.
I can’t read anymore of this it is yesterday’s news and people need to move on. Each day individuals on this site become more and more inapropriate, rude and disrespectful. They all have expressed their opinions as they have the right too. Right side is always going to be right side as left will be left. The middle the middle, stop bickering already grow up and truely respect opinions even if different than yours. I’m done here. Thank you.
I agree Greg is the bully. he was calling her names instead of
Seeing her side and discussing her views. My best friend
Is a nearly sixty year old gay man. We have these discussions
And sometimes heartedly but we never call names and we always
Still love each other. Hollywood needs to stop the nasty name
Calling and discuss.
given the fact that MR blocked almost everyone that tweeted her after her stupid “YEAH I ATE CHICkEN tweet” she deserves whatever comes her way, imo. CC writes a blog about it? Ok…but Melissa was way too silent and her hubby was way too “I’m proud of my wife”. To close her account while quoting god is so sad and so dramatic. She’s obviously oblivious.
I could not agree more. She says she believes in free speech and that’s why she tweeted, but she blocked others who chose to speak freely? Does not compute. She should have spoken for herself.
I TOTALLY agree with both posts *Thumbs up* 🙂 🙂
Enough of this good “Christian” garbage!!! You people are the biggest hypocrites going!
that’s rich, coming from the people who say they are against “hate speech” and yet their tweets are the most vile and vicious of all!
and again the bullies come out.. SHE DID TWEET THAT SHE WAS SUPPORTING FREE SPEECH AFTER SHE WAS ATTACKED. She blocked because how many times does she need to exlain herself? Yet as I pointed out she is still called a liar…as evidenced above. She said posted her tweet and then clarified it when questioned. GIVE IT UP PEOPLE there is no more mileage for the movement to be had by bullying her anymore.
BEFORE you call someone a BULLY please hold up a mirror! The reflection you see may SURPRISE YOU!!!
when I send death threats or threaten physical harm to you and your family we’ll discuss bullying.
Oh Anne, you assume I haven’t been threatened with death threats because of who I am? How wrong you are! I still say you have lumped ALL people in a group under the banner: Bully. That is not fair to any group, including Christians. Not ALL people in any group are bullies. No one in these posts has threatened her, so you’re attacking the wrong people with your tirades. You state above that we should “give it up” and stop bullying her. Apparently you’re the one who doesn’t know what bullying means.
Anne, I have followed this story, and Melissa DID tweet again after her original Chick-fil-a post, she tweeted Kirk Cameron’s sister Candace about how she had just lost a lot of fans and LAUGHING about it! The statement about Free Speech was in her original Chick-fil-a post, to my knowledge she has NOT explained anything since then, although, as I said, she did tweet Candace Cameron at her fan’s expense (laughing).
she also tweeted and said she couldn’t understand what all the hate was, that she was just supporting free speech, can’t we all get along and love each other. She’s like a lot of celebrities who have made the mistake of not researching something. I’ll put my hand up and say I was dumb enough to do that at times. Doesn’t make her a biggot. I’m sure she’s upset and not a little frightened thanks to the threats.
Anne, all she had to do was apologize. It amazes me that sometime doing the right thing is the HARDEST thing to do.
Mileage for Shared traditional values? it’s like fighting for that last buffalo… lets use every part of the contstitution for the the betterment of ALL american citizens.
Hello Anne:
” GIVE IT UP PEOPLE there is no more mileage for the movement to be had by bullying her anymore.”
——————————————————————
I respectfully decline… as that is my right to the 1st ammendment.
Glad Crystal is standing up for her friend…but Melissa’s silence does nothing to help her. I respect someone more for admitting their mistakes…
That was ALL Melissa Reeves had to do. Why was it so hard for her? Who knows? She believes in Free Speech, yet she NOW refuses to speak. NO ONE should HAVE to SPEAK for HER! (I’m using caps to emphasize that she was in total control of this situation and chose NOT to use her right right to freedom of speech, the VERY thing she claims she was defending in her tweet.
Also, I hate that this needs to come up every time we have these discussions, but the right to free speech in the country is very specific–and ONLY applies to the GOVERNMENT involving itself in citizen’s speech. It is perfectly legal and okay for people (including large portions of the public) to let a business, celebrity, person, newspaper know as loudly as they want (within harrassment and stalking laws, of course) that they don’t approve. They can organize boycotts, picket outside the store to inform people of the businesses position, and write strongly worded (and sometimes offensive) things about them… Read more »
I’m not going to judge her but having seen her posts in the past, she has never said a hateful comment about anyone… and then she makes one comment – I fully believe without knowing exactly what Chickfila was doing – and gets slammed. She has already spoken/apologized to those that she cares for, that matter to her. Why should she respond to hateful comments attacking her, her family and her beliefs? Losers are bringing up her past and throwing that in her face and she owes THEM an apology? I can bet 99% of those attacking her have said… Read more »
agree 100%
She has already spoken/apologized to those that she cares for, that matter to her. THAT MATTER TO HER? what is this… that i don’t matter? I don’t mean anything to her.. because, she doesn’t know me personally…? She’s not being villified… She’s being taken to task… for not standing up for her initial response… she mean’t what she shared… Press, for and against… is our right. She had plenty of time to avail herself… her freedom of speech… and she chooses to shut down. LOSERS. People who care about getting along… letting be… Freedom… Living in Harmony. That’s unjust and… Read more »
Patrick, who are you or anyone else to take anyone to task? The world does not revolve around you and what you think. If you don’t like what she has to say, hit the delete button or turn the darn channel. Good effing grief.
Jim, since you stated previously that you are a gay man and a Christian, I am so disappointed in the things you say. Your posts confuse me: The more you say, “the more you say”.
@Jim.
This is not personal. We all share this platform. “For and Against” our constitution… is our right. Ostracizing a person, because we can? It’s demeaning to the human spirit.
Cannot believe the dust up over this. For those that say this is about the CFA money trail and not the CEOs opinion, please get real. CFA has been donating to these orgs for years and why no comment about it before now? Is it still okay to be of the OPINION that marriage is the domain of a man and a woman? Or if you are of that opinion or even support someone’s right to state that OPINION, do you risk having vile and juvenile communications strewn your way? I support gay marriage. However the vile and hateful response… Read more »
that’s what I’ve been saying, gay groups have known for YEARS what kind of groups Chick-fil-A donates to, but NOW they decide to make a stink about it. Why? Because Dan Cathy said he is pro-traditional marriage to a CHRISTIAN group. Duh. I also think President Obama’s coming out in favor of gay marriage has emboldened the left to BULLY everybody else into thinking the way they do. I can’t speak for Missy, but it is when the mayors of major cities started banning Chick-fil-A that I decided to support Chick-fil-A day. The ACLU took Chick-fil-A’s side, as did major… Read more »
Not buying this. She’s either playing some PR game which is a total FAIL because she could have explained this story days ago or she’s really that unthinking to post about an issue she has no understanding of. Either way, she looks bad.
You know, we only know about Chick-Fil-A but how many other restaurants you eat at and stores you shop at that believe in the same thing? All those that are bashing Missy for one Twitter comment better be careful, because next week that favorite place you’ve been supporting might just turn up on the same list as Chick-Fil-A then what are you going to do?? She has the right to her own opinion and I strongly believe she meant no harm to anyone; just didn’t know all the facts. People keep saying she’s a religious bully, well guess what, there… Read more »
you know, I went to watch both “events” at the Chic-full of it near my house… it was obvious that there are people who know exactly what the guy said, even if he didn’t say it, pardon the pun, straight out. They seemed gleeful as they strolled out of the place yelling “yeah! freedom of speech!” it was equally as obvious, that there are a lot of really dumb, uneducated people out there that came to shout stupid stuff to the gay people (that came to protest where Chic-full of it donates money while still calling themselves good Christians.) Two… Read more »
Wow! Great post. This is what people have been trying to say in so many posts, but you WERE there and you know what REALLY happened. It’s sad that people are so undeniably uneducated, but these same people often vote for denying rights to others — even though it often means voting against their own best interests as well. Very sad. It really comes down to people being able to care about their fellow human beings . . . as long as some people believe that denying rights to others somehow elevates their lot in life, we may never get… Read more »
just so there’s no confuse-ment – when I said “while still calling themselves Christians” I do mean the Chic full of it, not the gay protesters. 🙂
You hit the nail on the head when you said there are a lot of “really dumb, uneducated” people out there. 🙂 What you witnessed sounds absolutely sickening. It sounds like an abortion rally or something in the south involving Confederate flags. I am grateful to have grown up in the North East and in the 70s (after the women’s movement) so I did not have to endure what my black friends have had to endure and, while heterosexual, I am glad of who I am for not having to go through what my homosexual friends are going through. The… Read more »
I went to Chick-fil-A on August 1 and I did not see one protester anywhere. And everybody was pretty subdued, just quietly ordering chicken with their families, nobody was gleeful or mean-spirited at all.
There were 2 days of “events” The first one, that was Aug. 1, was the reverse ‘protest’ where people in support of chic full of it came to buy food. I happened to be in the lane where all the traffic was backed up due to cars heading in – police had flashing lights on their cars – it was a traffic mess and of course it was just after 5pm when I got there. I wasn’t sure what to expect on that day, but their drive thru was overflowing and there was a throng of people lined up to… Read more »
Bull is what I think of Melissa Reeves “explanation”. She is NOT that naive. She knew full well what she was doing, hence the “wink” at the end of her tweet. I guess she didn’t realize what she was doing she she got involved in the rumored scandal backstage at DAYS all those years ago that resulted in her being forced off the show and banished to the hills of Tennessee for years. Wink on that!
Are you kidding me? Did Dan Cathy say that he hated gay people? Did he wish them harm? He expressed a viewpoint on marriage that is in complete alignment with his beliefs as a Christian. Whether we like it or not, many people believe the bible. Some may not agree with it, but there are people who live and breathe this. The politicians who have spoken out on this issue and have gotten their opportunist mugs in front of the camera and calling this hate speech and saying crazy things like ChickFilA is not welcome in their cities, blah blah.… Read more »
Crystal a very good friend. The guy from Young and Restless is the real Bully. I will not watch because of him.
He is hurting soaps.
People who claim Melissa Reeves is a bully they are hipocrates because they are the bullies.
The bullies are attack her husband band of great people.
Melissa Its easy to stand with a crowd. It takes courage to stand alone.
I wonder if Crystal feels let down after now seeing Melissa’s tweet.
We all need to stop and realize that world does not revolve around us and juding mreeves on her beliefs does not better you or me. I agreed with her many levels and i am christian.
You are “judging” MR, too, you know — but you are judging her to be someone who shares your beliefs.
I believe Melissa is sincerely sorry, and we should forgive her and move on from here. I’m sure we all have made the same mistakes before. I know I have. 🙂
I do NOT advocate anyone making death threats to anyone. Anyone who did this to MR or anyone should be ashamed. While I feel CC’s blog was ill-advised, I know she was trying to make a bad situation less so for a friend, but she should have let MR speak for herself. MR should be entitled to her OWN beliefs and not worried about a Christian backlash (as someone indicated) if she explained that she truly did NOT do this for any other reason than Free Speech. MR can still apologize and, if she’s sincere, I for one WILL gladly… Read more »
One last word as a gay Christian man. If we got this worked up over child abuse and harnessed our collective outrage into action, our children would be a heck of a lot more safe. Honestly, the whole Missy Reeves thing is so inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Quit spending so much time looking for reasons to be freaking offended. Did you know that there are over 20 million men who have been abused in our country in the worst possible way? Did you know that there is an incident of child abuse reported every ten seconds? Really,… Read more »
Jim, you can be a Christian and STILL want gays/lesbians to have equal rights. As for child abuse, we can all be aware of it — and we should — but safety of kids usually hinges on parental concern. You can never do more for any kid than that kid’s parents can — if the parent is responsible parent. If we see abuse, we should report it, but being aware of it and being able to stop it are two different things. Denying rights to gay/lesbian kids can also be seen somewhat as abuse, if these kids are denied the… Read more »
“you can be a Christian and STILL want gays/lesbians to have equal rights. ” AMEN!!! you can read my posts above – I went to both “events”. You know as I watched people outside on the first event, happily yelling ‘freedom of speech’ rants, and they were rants – they were not being nice and being supportive of other freedoms in the constitution (pursuit of happiness, equality, freedoms from being discriminated against) or the bible (love thy neighbor). There was a man watching and talking on the phone, giving someone else the lo-down and he was trying to tell me… Read more »
I am completely uninterested in the “christian” beliefs of a woman who has cheated on her husband.
Someone mentioned that Austin Peck is another big time conservative christian….
So soap stars who cheat on their spouses with co-stars is acceptable, but I shouldnt legally be able to marry?!?!?
If Mr. Cathy had been choosing to show his “support for Biblical marriage” by contributing to a lobbying effort to return to the days of prison sentences and other heavy judicial penalties for adultery–which is surely a more direct threat to marriage, Biblical or otherwise–I wonder if Mrs. Reeves would have been so eager to jump at the chance to show her support and tweet so gleefully about it.
I applause and give thanks to Crystal Chappell for having a mature rational response to this situation. we should all hope that we would have as true a friend willing to reach out and get clarification and understanding, to be willing to stand up and say that’s not who my friend is or what she believes. Crystal handled this situation with class, respect and dignity for all involved. While I do believe M.R should come forward and clear the air, we all have a duty as friends to stand up for one another and stand up for whats right. Well… Read more »
I think it was very nice of Crystal Chappell to take the time to reach out to Melissa Reeves for clarification about her Chick-fil-A tweet. What happened to Melissa in the aftermath of her tweet was nothing short of bullying by Greg Rikaart and his cohorts. I am not a supporter of gay rights, but I do greatly appreciate Crystal Chappell’s tolerance of persons who have views different from hers. And yes, the President of Chick-fil-A does have a right to free speech as do we all. The so-called “hate groups” that Chick-fil-A is alleged to support are organizations that… Read more »
Its nice of CC to jump to Reeves defense. She needs defending. Her comments implied her support of hate mongering and that she allies herself with their campaign of hate to remove civil liberties from LGBTQ persons. As a member of a show which is currently telling a story of acceptance and tolerance for people who are different, I find her comments contradictory to the values being put forth by Sony and NBC. I hold her responsible and accept no plea of ignorance. Chick-Fil-A has been in the news and of course, she knows that, that is why she showed… Read more »
Paul, I agree with you regarding the show right now (DAYS). Let me embellish without hurt/prejudice and hypothetically: If I had made a mistake in speaking/terminology and was a known actress or a nobody then I should apologize and make my real thoughts known, immediately. Maybe the lack of a timely response and the response itself may be due to: fear of backlash; personal sexual issues; jealousy of CC’s success; someone in the background helping MR along. Far out thinking; if “Melanie” marries “Chad” would you not want your Mother at your wedding??? CC is a formidable contender to anyone… Read more »
I don’t understand how anyone can’t see how Missy could have supported free speech. Suporting freedom of speech does not mean you agree with what has been said. I myself made a similar mistake. Because when I was supporting Chic fil a ‘s right to say what they felt, I had no clue that they were supporting hate groups so I can see how Missy didnt know that either. Missy Reeves is also a very religious person, so she believes in that. Doesn’t mean she hates people who don’t follow her religion. I believe in equal rights for gays. And… Read more »
ChickFilA is a huge supporter of FamilyResearchCouncil who promote criminalization of homosexuality. What is really slimy is how celebrities and atheletes talk prejudice out of one side of their mouth, couching it in FreeSpeech and the Bible, while claiming not to offend anyone out of the other side of their mouth. That seems the slimyest bit, to put it out there then slither away as if no harm was intended.
