Anna Delvey, the controversial contestant choice for this season’s Dancing with the Stars, put herself at the center of more controversy after her stunning answer to a question from the host, Julianne Hough, after being one of two celebrities sent home after Tuesday night’s double elimination.

With a few minutes to spare on the live September 24th broadcast on ABC, Hough asked Delvey what she was taking from her experience on the show, to which she replied very bluntly and with no expression on her face, “Nothing.”  In shock, her pro dance partner, Ezra Soza stood by and was stunned by her rude reply. Trapped in an uncomfortable situation, Hough attempted to laugh it off before going of the air.

Delvey’s demeanor was also incorporated into what wound up being the pairing’s final dance,  when they delivered a quick step to the Devil Wears Prada theme song, Suddenly I See,” by K.T. Tunstall.  Sosa’s choreography poked fun at Delvey’s attitude including in the dance forcing her to smile by holding up the corners of her mouth.

Coming on to the show with a criminal record, Delvey had used her social standing as a German heiress to defraud wealthy people, banks and hotels. She was arrested in 2017 and convicted of grand larceny in the first, second and third degree as well as theft of services in 2019.  After serving time in state prison and paying restitution, she was released back in February 2021. However, shortly after her release, she was taken into custody by ICE for violating the terms of her visa. She has been living under house arrest in New York City while fighting her deportation case.

Beverly Hills 90210’s Tori Spelling was the other contestant sent home on Tuesday night. Unlike Delvey she was very emotional about her exit, as she wanted to show to her children who were in the audience that anything is possible if you set your mind too it. Spelling told the hosts, she really wanted to be here and compete in the show.  However, after her Rumba with pro partner Pasha Pashkov to to “This Is Me” by Keala Settle and the Greatest Showman ensemble, even though it meant so much to Spelling, the viewers at home didn’t feel the same way and it was the end of her run on the show.

Dancing with the Stars  airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, with episodes available to stream the next day on Hulu.

Eric Robert’s should have gone home, it is painful to watch him try to dance.

Whoever has the final approval of who dances on DWTS isn’t playing fair. The unpopular people like Tori and Anna (she should never have been on show) never had a chance, and the old people – please don’t bother setting them up. It’s embarrassing! This show is for the young, good looking and in shape people. It’s no competition until they are down to the last 6 of those couples. Also, it’s not fair for the professional dancers to be assigned the unpopular/old stars because they know from the start they won’t last.

I am 100% team Alfonso Ribeiro. 100%

Tori is a class act! As for Delvey… they hired a con woman and are surprised she acted like a less then classy person? As For Tori, she deserved better

This is what pisses me off: That STUPID AIRHEAD Anna Delvey has been under house arrest for quite some time now…and…YET…she was allowed to compete (if you wanna call it that…lol) on DWTS!!!!! WTF!?!?! REALLY STUPID ABC…REALLY STUPID!!!!!

Too bad we can’t get rid of Anna from the U.S. as quickly as she is gone from DWTS. I’m glad she’s gone. Tori should not have been eliminated.

I think ABC got exactly what they deserved. Anna shouldn’t have been asked on the show in the first place; they’ve had controversial contestants before, but this had to be a new low (I was trying to remember: has there ever been an actual convicted criminal on there before?). And I think she was honest when she said “Nothing”; it was shocking, but also a hilarious smackdown for the producers: she didn’t go along with the “we’re a big happy family” narrative that they try so hard to sell us but that hasn’t felt true to me since they fired Tom Bergeron. It was her best moment on the show. She definitely needed to be gone, and ABC definitely deserved the middle finger she basically gave them, so win-win as far as I’m concerned.

Tori’s departure was a surprise. She wasn’t fantastic, but she was a better dancer than either Eric (I agree with the person who commented that he’s actually painful to watch) or Reginald, and she showed a great deal of improvement from week 1 to week 2. I guess one of those two will be next, however.

It was quite a night for Dancing with the Stars! The long-running ballroom dance floor competition, delivered an outstanding finale, and in turn, it brought in its strongest ratings in nine years as its 34th season during its 20th anniversary came to a close.

According to Nielsen National Live+Same Day ratings and data; the following milestones were reached during this season’s run and the finale, which saw Robert Irwin and his pro partner, Witney Carson taking home the Mirrorball Trophy after the nationwide vote was tallied along with the judges scores.

Dancing with the Stars scored 9.24 million total viewers for the finale that aired on Tuesday night, November 25. It also became the highest finale ratings among key demos of Adults 18-49 since 2015 and best among Adults 18-34 since 2011. In addition, the finale is now TV’s top entertainment telecast since ABC’s presentation of the ‘The Oscars.”

Ironically, Robert’s sister, Bindi Irwin, who won the Mirrorball Trophy back in 2015 with now judge, Derek Hough, held the previous record, as this season finale and the show doubled its 18-49 demo ratings from last season. In addition, Dancing with the Stars season finale captured 53% audience share among Adults 18-34, that’s the largest share of available viewers for any broadcast entertainment series telecast since the Friends series finale in May 2004.

This week’s season 34 finale when becoming the most-watched finale in nine years now beats the former record-holder, the Season 23 finale, which saw Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy take the top spot and the Mirrorball.

But that’s not all! As first revealed by hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough before the reading of the final results, the at-home vote shattered an all-time record with over 72 million votes cast – which tallied in total, nearly half a billon votes for the season.

On social media, with 6.9 million total social interactions, Dancing with the Stars was the No. 1 most social program on television across broadcast and cable and the No. 1 most social episode of any primetime series, year to date. The finale grew +109% over the show’s current season average (vs. 3.3 million) and was up +67% over the show’s previous season finale (4.1 million).

And there’s more dancing on the way, next week! In a special holiday presentation, Dancing with the Holidays airs Tuesday Dec. 2, 8:00-9:00 p.m. EST/PST on ABC and Disney+, streaming next day on Hulu. In the loglines for the special, ABC shares, “The ballroom comes alive with holiday magic as “Dancing with the Stars” celebrates the season with festive-themed routines, dazzling musical performances and special holiday greetings.”

So, do you agree that this season’s was the best all-time on record given its competitors, the dances, the emotion from all involved and how it has revived itself also through social media engagement? Let’s not forget, just a few years ago, ABC kicked the show off of broadcast television, and it was only streamed on Disney+! What does this show? Everything can come back around with the right combination of ingredients, and this season did just that. Share your thoughts below, but first check out the moment where Alfonso and Julianne crowned the new Mirrorball champs!
